Once again, I was delighted with my stay at the Shangri-La Pudong, in Shanghai! I was treated very well during check in, my entire stay and during check out by all of the staff that I encountered. The accommodations are extremely nice and the Horizon Lounge showcases a beautiful view of the Shanghai Bund.

The good: This hotel has a five star lobby, with p...
The good: This hotel has a five star lobby, with plenty of its own restaurants and beautiful design. It has a great location. The breakfast buffet had many options. The bedding was nice and the room had a nice setup and smell.
The bad: The tub, which was very large, had a drain plug which didn't close completely. I ordered a ribeye steak medium and got a very rare steak (268 RMB). Guest service and room service were not very english proficient, causing difficulty ordering food and services. They have a pillow menu. I asked for a soft feather pillow, just as listed. The girl couldn't understand my request and passed me to another. She couldn't understand, and said "hard or soft?" With 5 or 6 options, hard or soft doesn't get what I asked for.
Overall comfortable hotel, but many small issues that turn it from a 5 star to more of a 3.5 to 4 star hotel. This is being honest. I expect more even from even a 4 star.

One more thing, when I arrived for checked in, I told your staff i.e Pan that I wanted to pay my bill in Malaysian Ringgit and she said can be arranged when I want to check out later and she just want to blocked my credit card in Renminbi. Later when I wanted to check out, the same people i.e Pan said I cant pay in Ringgit because she already locked my credit card in Renminbi. What a service from a 5 star hotel. My friend who checked out besides me can pay in Ringgit but not me because of this lady. If she cant handle small matters like this please don't put her at front desk. What a shame.

Another thing I enjoy and treasure is the fact that there is a copy of FT at the lunge which is rare in China but a great service to those of us who makes a living in financial industry. I hope you keep it.
But the front desk is of very poor operation and low efficiency. When I checked out, there were five service people on the desk and only one was handling customers. The service was in sharp contrast to Ritz which is next door.
I also rate your doormen poorly. They are far less helpful than their counterparts in Beijing when it comes to ordering a taxi.

15 minute queue for checkin, 20 minute queue for checkout. Why more staff not trained and drafted in during busy periods as 3 staff members standing idle whilst 4 checkin desks empty? When we looked lost after checkin and we asked where our room was, staff who has been standing idle throughout the long checkin, and who clearly had time to show us to our lift, simply pointed in direction of the long walk to our room. 30 minute queue for breakfast, much frustration among many other guests for this also. Told we were put in best room (maybe because we stay frequently at other Shangri-La hotels?) but we were put in the old section of the hotel in an outdated and tired room. All TV stations fuzzy with no clear signal. Guest room cards randomly didn t work in the lifts. Staff with heavy colds made no attempt to cover mouth when coughing and sneezing - nice people but need training. Lots of minor points here but not up to Shangri-La normal standards, disappointing.....

1) Meet and greet experience at airport was pleasant. The ride from airport to hotel was comfortable and the driver was very courteous.
2) In-room check-in touch point was swift and professionally carried out by Aliya. I believe she is pretty new on the job but could sense her passion and hospitality.
3) Housekeeping met expectation and turn down service was promptly carried out. Daily replenishment of bottled drinking water was done as per request.
4) Check out experience was excellent, regrettably I didn't manage to get the name of the attending staff but please extend my appreciation to her. She was very professional and efficient. One of the best staff handling check out process I have ever come across.
5) Ride from hotel to airport was similarly comfortable although the car looked and felt very old. The driver was attentive and helpful with unloading of luggage upon arrival at airport.

It s always great to return to Pudong Shangri-La. The great people and perfect location always make my business trip easier. This is always my top choice of residence in Shanghai. The clinic in the hotel lied to my faces continuously!!!
First of all, Shangri-La staff provided the good service as usual. Elaine, Henry, Whitney, and Kenny from the club lounge was excellent.
But, the clinic in hotel SUCKED!! The lady worked there lied to my face again and again!
My friend thought she got a fever, and would like to use a thermometer to check her temperature. The club lounge staff told me we need to go to the 4th floor.
After we went to the clinic at the 4th floor, there was a lady there:
1. When I asked for thermometer, the lady said they didn't have one for a long time. When I told her the club lounge advised me to come down, and asked her to call the club lounge, she said something like they are independent unit, and they don't have a direct phone to call the hotel internally.
2. She said they can't re-stock the thermometer for 2 months in Shanghai. When I said I was going to record the conversation, she stopped. It's unbelievable that she lied about this again.
3. When one of your female manager came to the room, asking around what happened, the lady said she did have a phone, but because there's something wrong with the phone, she said she can't make an outbound call, and she can only receive the calls. Then I called the lounge with her phone, and, boom, she lied again!!!
After I came back in the afternoon, one of your lobby managers came to me, apologized for what had happened, and basically Shangri-la can't do anything at that time.
I have nothing to say, but Thank you. My friend, who stayed at lots of luxury hotels, was astonished, "What? that's it? Not even a tiny gesture for the apology? Wow, the service at Shangri-La was far behind other hotels." I told her, the reason I complained to the hotel staff, was because I couldn't stand that someone lies to my face, and treat us like idiots, not in order to get some compensation and benefits from the hotel. I just want to know what my friend thinks about Shangr-la.
Your staff confirmed that the clinic is kind of an outsourced unit, and they don't have much control of it. So......

I always stay at the Shangrila when I'm in Shanghai. The Horizon lounge staff at pudong is the best in the industry! I've been to other Horizon lounges and Pudong is by far the best concierge service out there. Judy Leung and her team are incredible and attempt to do everything and anything to make me and all the horizon club guests comfortable. The whole staff is great including Kenny Ooi, Dream Yang, Ciel Chen, Rolan Li, Peggie Zhang, Johnson Jiang, Allison Li, Sunny Cui, Shirley Jiang, Jenny Wang, Quinns Liao, Danny Li, and Lilly Li.

There is nothing wrong with the five-star hotel. The location is very suitable, the service is strong, and the hardware facilities are comprehensive, but I don't know why it is full of a mess. This is a lovely hotel with excellent service! The 36 on Jade rooftop bar has a fabulous view of Shanghai! My only suggestion is that the food menu at the bar could be improved. It needs more items that people can share such as chips and dip, popcorn, slider sandwiches, etc. The breakfast buffet was also fabulous! I immediately used the domestic mobile phone number to dial the contact number of Shangri-La Hotel, Pudong, Shanghai. After 3 calls were made, I hang up inexplicably. Finally, I tried to dial with the Australian mobile phone number and get through it once. I would like to do my utmost to understand that the service staff may be in a busy state of work at the time, but it is still inevitable to have some negative guesses in the mind that may involve racial fair treatment.
(2) On the evening of June 10, my girlfriend and I arrived at the hotel to check in. We carried two large and medium-sized suitcases, and the hands and bodies were covered with various gifts purchased at Shanghai Disneyland. Based on past experience and trust in the Shangri-La brand, I thought that there would be service staff to help to share the baggage, but in addition to the hotel door concierge to help us to send the baggage to the front desk, no other service staff asked or helped us to Baggage is delivered to the room together.
(3) When the luggage was taken at noon on June 11, the storage baggage counter was not received at the time. We went to the main counter next to the service staff, the main counter service staff (not looked up, cold tone) responded to let us go to the side counter to pick up the luggage, then (straight) walk away, to talk to another service staff (chat). I was about to tell her that there was no reception at the baggage counter, but she was left in her mouth and was at a loss. Soon after, the receptionist at the baggage counter came back to entertain us to stop my slumbering sorrow and the horror that would have been ignored by Shangri-La. The above notes in brackets may not be the truth, but it was my direct feeling at the time. My experience and sense of responsibility tell me that in this case, the main counter service staff suggested that we wait patiently or help to contact the deposit counter service staff is not a more appropriate way to deal with it?
We know that we are not perfect, so we will not ask others not to make mistakes, not to demand others to be perfect, and will not deliberately occupy the hotel's human resources. However, during the few interactions with the service staff of Shangri-La Hotel in Pudong, the feeling of being unrespected for no reason has risen many times. I personally think this is not normal. This is how I experienced the Shangri-La hotels and other star-rated hotels in China. After that, the first time I responded to the reason for the occupancy experience survey.

The hotel is beautiful and classy. It is located in the famous financial center in Shanghai.
The rooms are spacious and welcoming. Breakfast at the hotel cafe was sumptuous. Service is also very good. Especially thanks Amber and Albert helped me for checkin.

The room smelled like a smoking room , subsequently we were told it was new carpets, heard several people complaining about the same experience so no doubt this will be resolved soon. It was a shame as Shangrila is renowned for the great smell . And if these were new carpets , you need a better carpet cleaning method , especially under the beds are very dusty and dirty . It was not the premium experience I was expecting . But its still a great location and I will be staying again.
