Friendly customer service. Strategic hotel location. Clean and nice room. Definitely will come again

Good; but a lot of possible improvements can be made to address some serious gaps

Modern looking hotel with all the comfort you expect from a Shangri La property, without the "old people" decoration. Great breakfast and club lounge, free parking for guest and close location to heritage area.

Great hotel. I stayed 1 night only so can't say much.

Emailed hotel twice as it was our wedding anniversary and wanted a transfer and quiet room no response! no help with luggage on arrival no king bed available as no quiet room with one they said they would make the beds together the next day to a king bed but this wasnt done the pool area is drab ,shabby towels! Only saving grace is the transfer to the beach and great staff in the club lounge who are excellent

Wide variety of foods for buffet breakfast, good service, cozy!

Unprofessional Security Guard. He s absolutely not local. He do not understand neither Malay nor english. Hotel management suppose to train this people to be more welcoming instead of being rude. Keep pushing us to park our car elsewhere when we busy to dropbag and checkin. idiot.

Overall excellent stay.
Unfortunately the parking situation is a long term issue. Alternative parking at Wembley hotel is OK, but the road crossing is difficult and dangerous at times

The room I was in had lot of disturbance. Adjacent rooms sound when people are talking etc is disturbing at night.

waiting period after check in was too long and front desk not informative.
breakfast was lousy in taste and even the local dish like nasi lemak is a failure.

The check in was a Breeze and all the staff was friendly n attentive to details.

Nice Hotel to stay in. Serves authentic local dishes if you are lazy to go out of hotel. Great amenities with gym and pool services.

Good quality hotel close to the action. The hotel is situated beside the central transport hub called KOMTAR.
Room is small, even the 'family' room. From the floor plan, I would say that it's the same size as other rooms but perhaps the other rooms have larger bathroom/toilet.
Pool facilities is bearable and to be expected of a hotel in the city. Small, varying depth. Small baby pool away from the main pool. Totally bare with not a even a pot plant to break the starkness of the area. Wished that they could have at least have some tall palm trees in pot just to provide some relief to the eyes.
Staff is efficient and friendly.
Location of the famous food stalls is about 5 mins walk away north (behind the hotel). And there are so so so many food to try.
And finally I come to the icing on the cake, Jen is part of a chain that includes Golden Sands in Batu Ferringhi. There's a shuttle bus that runs to and fro a number of time in the day. After a few days of eating out and moving around in town, we adjourned to Golden Sands for a bit of R&R, and still get back in town for dinner, supper and late night partying in the many hidden bars around. No reviews of these bars from me, coz it's hidden, so you'll have to search for it *wink*.
Overall, a good location and I'll be back.

Always nice to be at Jen Penang, the friendly people and warm faces make it a genuine feeling. The location is nice of course, the food is always excellent. Rooms were excellent, sleep quality was good. Everything was functioning and in order. It is generally true for this industry that wastage is more and environmental impact is significant - perhaps Jen/ShangriLa could take the lead to reduce or better manage waste and environmental impact.

My experience with Hotel Jen is great thus far.

I would credit this to your team of staffs who give their utmost attention to the hotel guest.

Although, there's a thing which I dislike, toilet bowl. Perhaps I'm short, when I sat on the toilet bowl, my feet is hanging in the air. Also, when I flush, the current is so strong that the water sprays our from the toilet bowl.

great if include more amenities such shaving kit, comb, etc.

The staffs working in the hotel are very friendly and helpful especially these working in the lobby. Thus, the cleaner is very helpful also. Definitely worth the stay!

Jul-9, Nice stay.. lobby under construction, reserve for high floor to avoid noise. Everything good except sound insulation, can hear ppl talking on corridors. 4 stars hotel with reasonable price. Will come back again next stay, hopefully can have free breakfast upgrade next time

I stay at a room on the 'Club' floor. The service of the staffs at the 'Club lounge' was beyond my expectations. 10/10. They were excellent. .

Good location within walking distance from sights and local street food. Rooms were clean and facilities were good. However, the lunch buffet was a little underwhelming considered RM68 per person, not much choices available for an international buffet.

Hotel Tea break food is nice. Besides that, hotel staff provided professional and friendly services. Very nice and comfortable meeting room.

My first visit back to Penang after almost 20yrs.

Available to check-in only at around 4:30pm - enough said. Had an apartment unit with wife and 2 kids, good space but imagine the challenge of sharing a single bathroom. The biggest complaint I hope for improvement is the extremely poor ventilation within the toilet. Visited the executive lounge, seriously not impressed with limited table. Breakfast at Jen Cafe, good spread but can be better. Hotel location is good with close proximity to many place of interest. Working staff generally great but the Check-in incident just left me a bad taste, especially I was kept in the dark initially for the long wait till I have to show my displeasure.

I hope this review result in some improvement actions by the management. I do not consider myself a frequent traveler for work but at least stayed in an hotel for more than 15 times over the last 12 months. Had experienced sufficiently on hospitality services to know what I am talking about in this review.

Hopefully the next time if even I challenge myself to revisit this hotel again, I hope to find a better experience.

Sport equipment in Gym are good enough.
Good location

Smooth check-in process. Room was prep as expected (sofa bed). Common mistake hotels make is not catering for more that 2 people (towers, slippers, bathroom amenities...etc.) when the room is booked for 3 pax. No such problems here. Ideal location.

Staff very polite, friendly and helpful. Lovely surprise with Birthday Cake for my celebration.
Rooms very clean, fresh and made our stay very enjoyable. Great location to shopping malls and food stores, looking forward to returning.

Overall experience was good, though we were a little disappointed that the room was not tidied when we returned at about 3pm. The housekeeper came by at about 5pm, which is rather late by usual standards. Hotel was sweet to give us a cake for our wedding anniversary.

Location was fantastic - in the middle of Georgetown, easily accessible to the hot spots of Penang (15min or less for walking & grab costs less than 6 ringgit while ride to airport costed me only 18!)

Hotel is good , staff are friendly, only the breakfast so so , hope can improve for the food quality..

Good stay. Executive lounge was crowded but otherwise, everything is mostly.

The furnishings were a bit old, parts of the bathtub was falling apart, but the staff at the executive floor were nice and thanks for the birthday cake.

Some refurbishing would make your hotel look awesome again. Looking forward to stay there again.

I didn't consider Penang during the trip.
I really want to go, so I stayed at Hotel Jen for 2 nights and 3 days.
It is my 13th overseas trip with my 4 year old daughter.
The hotel checked in more than that.
It's in the best condition and the price is also good.
I am sorry not to be able to use the hotel restaurant because of the tight time.
My daughter Melaka, Singapore, Johor-bahru, and Kuala Lumpur, Penang was said to have been the best and the most desired.
She asked me to book another visit to Penang Hotel Jen for her upcoming birthday.
As soon as I return to Korea, I am checking my vacation period and flight.
I will go back and enjoy myself.

They were accommodating when we requested for many buckets of ice. Concierge recommended for us to go for this one-time World Heritage Day event and we enjoyed ourselves while learning about Penang s culture. Service was genuine, highly recommend to my friends and will definitely come back!

It was a nice hotel. The location can be easily found. Will choose this hotel again if we revisit Penang. The service was good too.

Thank you Calvin for organizing the stay for my relative. Truly had a stress-free booking until departure and even a check out gesture checking on our experience.

I asked for an upgrade to an executive suite from the standard room. It was pointless to be honest. The Sofa Bed is virtually unsittable, i tried to sit on it and it will slide open.

I told the reception about it on the second day when i asked my room to be cleaned. But still, the change was not made. Due to this, i was just sitting in the room the whole time. Basically there was no point at all to upgrade to the suite, since we couldnt sit in the living room at all.

Generally, I would recommend this hotel for the standard room, but will not consider going for the upgrade. Deals are good, location is good as well.

I would recommend booking via Shangri-la.com instead of Agoda. You get more compared to the travel sites.

I have stayed with my family during 2019 Lunar New Year Holidays at club room located level 16th.
The hotel had prepared kid bed(transformed sofa bed)for us although we had never requested but they know I have a child thus we had great sleep.

location is super ideals, is easily explored on foot or drive out for sightseeings.
area may require to look into it-last day during departure to airport, Grab vehicle arrived in front of the hotel entrance, hotel staff did not provide help to load my big luggage up to the car boot, he stood beside me while i were struggling to load the luggage.

The room was spacious and clean. Loved that the room interior matched with the surrounding shop houses and the view from the room was lovely as well but the in bathroom, the shower area is a little small and the room is not completely soundproof though there was little disturbance throughout my stay.
Booked the room package with the trishaw ride and had a wonderful time exploring penang also managed to visit batu ferringhi beach through the hotel's shuttle bus service.
Loved the club lounge as well and its definitely worth paying extra for.
The staffs were very friendly and the service received was impeccable.

Since I m working in the hotel industry for more then 30 years , lived and worked in top 5 star Hotels it s great to see a Hotel which has great service , value for money and I was impressed with the staff in the breakfast service. It was very busy most of the time but we always saw smile when we came for breakfast and always very helpful.

Comfortable and clean room. Very convenient location while the surrounding areas are cosy and there are good quality coffee shop nearby. Very efficient check in and check out (less then 3 mins). Cheerful abd helpful responsive staff. I left my phone in the room and the house keeping quickly responded to my request to lock my room door. When I returned to my room, the staff quickly identified me and went up to my room door. Only one issue needs improvement: Water leaks from the shower room. Otherwise, every thing is fine. Im very happy to stay with Hotel Jen. I will come back again in my next trip.

What a pleasant stay at the hotel, the hotel service is superb, and the cleanliness is more that what I had thought. I was under the impression that the stay would be normal, but I stand corrected. Besides that, I would like to say thank you, for the kindness and help offered by the receptionist Humaira, she was really helpful during our stay. Will definitely come again next time!

The receptionist is very friendly and accommodating. Fuss free check in and check out. I love the location of this hotel, very near to many tourist spots, attractions and international airport.

Its a very nice hotel located at the heart of the city, right next to Komtar Tower. Jen Hotel Penang has a very strategic location to go anywhere and by any means of transportation , whether you're on an adventurous mood to just ride along the free shuttle bus at penang or you're on a packed schedule to every place you need to go, you can use Grab to go anywhere without waiting for the bus to come.

One of the downside maybe is that they dont have too many facilities available. Just gym, pool, restaurant, thats it. Theres no entertainment room or common place with a good viewing spot to gather round. They only have two choices of room views available : one overlooking the city and the other just behind the Komtar tower; which not exactly a beauty spot with no life whatsoever can be seen.

Otherwise the hotel is very conveniently placed; you can go to Komtar Tower, 1st Avenue Mall or Prangin Mall as they're adjacent to Jen Hotel, and to the west you can enjoy some street foods stall available (about 500 m walk)
, while to the north you can tour around Kimberly Street Food Market, and just around the corner is the Penang Road Famous Teocheuw Chendol.

I appreciate being given a room near the lift lobby as I was travelling alone. Hotel Jen is my favourite hotel especially when I am travelling for business.

I love the hotel room which I chosen a family room. It was spacious and I love the facilities as it have all the necessary essential stuffs that we want. staying in Hotel Jen was a good choice for my short trip. we would suggest to put a note for travellers by notifying that there will be a deposit payment required while checking in as it may cause disappointment to those who does not carry enough money for the trip.

Despite the construction in front of the hotel, I really had a pleasant stay. The room is clean and spacious as well as the bathroom and everything else. Though I did not ask for room service cleaning, your kind housekeeper still knocked on my door and ensure that I got everything I need. I really don't mind the knocking at all. Your breakfast though is kinda repetitive but still fulling with so much variation. The fact that its just beside a mall was a plus. I can get anything I need easily. Will definitely consider staying again on the same hotel. Thanks.

We had a very good and enjoyable stay at Hotek Jen. The staffs were very friendly. Rooms were just amazing. I had a leg issue and they even allowed me to park infront. Thank you very much for the wonderful hospitality.

Stayed there for 3 nights, I stayed with family with 3 rooms including Executive Suite.
Very nice clean rooms. Spacious and excellent amenities.
I have Club Horizon excesses with friendly and helpful staff members.

We had a pleasant surprise when the hotel presented my dad with a birthday cake. The hotel must had noticed it was his birthday when we presented his IC during check in and took the initiative with the cake. Great surprise and delight!

the location is good, 5-10 mins drive to a lot of attraction and rooms are good. Room is clean and comfortable.

I stayed at non-smoking floor however i can smell the second hand smoke all night long during my stay at Jen Hotel. Room is dusty as well and it shouldnt happen by looking at the occupancy rate cause hotel staff are telling me that they are having group check in even on Monday weekday.

Was there for sister's wedding. Staffs and concierge have been very accommodating to all requests, including storing bridal bouquet, wine etc for us and all. That's the extra miles. Love the cosy setting of the hotel, little details and love the room with the large bed. Exceptionally clean, modern and cosy room. Would definitely return.

Club Room is great value for money. William at the reception is extremely helpful and nice.
