This restaurant is certainly one of the most pleasant place to eat in the region. Anytime I visit this place I am extremely glad. They hold their high level service and the highest level of meals they offer. You can never go wrong with this restaurant. Warmly recommended.

We were in town for other stuff and decided to check out this hyped place. We walked in and the decor was very nice and we were seated right away, the food did take a drop to long to come given there was hardly anyone there. When the food came out the food was great not the hype that everyone created. It was better then most restaurants but not like OMG. The staff tried very hard to make our visit better and i give them tons of credit for trying. Maybe for some reason when we were the food wasnt the best but i will try it again and give an update

Wow. What an experience! 1st off, I'll begin by saying that I'm a New Yorker and have been to almost all of New York's (kosher) steakhouses... That being said, let's just say that this place outshines almost every NY joint except for maybe Reserve Cut which is probably unanimously the holy grail for kosher beef. The aesthetic at Shallots is elegant and chic, yet so cozy and laidback. It was truly refreshing coming from NYC where steakhouses are usually jammed and noisy etc...At Shallots, it's mostly full but there's this calm and chill vibe about the whole place. Now for the real good stuff: The food. It's simply delectable. Delicious dishes with a huge variety, all cooked to perfection. The sweetbreads are also awesome! And a huge plus is that the portions are so generous. You really get your bang for your buck. Desserts were also very tasty and funky looking. The service is impeccable too. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Douglas the manager is a delightful guy, that walks around making sure everyone is happy. We enjoyed a lovely chat with him about kosher cuisine and he was super knowledgeable about the whole industry in general...A must-go if you're in Chicago for a visit. It's not cheap, but hey, neither is a Mercedes. ;)
Also, remember that kosher restaurants must charge more money simply because 1) Kosher meat is much more expensive 2) They need to have a full time "mashgiach" ensuring that all the food and ingredients are kosher in accordance to all the proper guidelines.

I eat at Shallots very frequently, The food at this restaurant is overall very solid, waiters are nice and helpful. It's a bit pricey but not too crazy being that they are one of the only quality kosher steakhouses currently in Chicago.
Complaint: The wine here is Extremely extremely grossly over priced. I am generally not a complainer and rarely write reviews but the wine pricing here is marked up over 1000%! For example they charge $17 a glass for the Benyamina reserve cab which is $23 a bottle tops if you were to pick it up at a store, do a quick google price search for yourself. They aren't preparing anything special for the wine, just pouring it no reason why they need to make more than 100%. I haven't been to any other kosher restaurants anywhere with this type of wine pricing, very upsetting and really needs to be changed..... this would never float in an area with more restaurant options.
Side Suggestion: the bread dips have got to go feels like I'm having Friday night dips from the grocery store. You should change it to a nice oil n garlic dip, bread should be sliced (toasted) and presented better as well. If you ask around I'm confident most of your customers would agree. Sorry for the anonymous email address but my wife didn't allow me to put my real name down :).

Wishing Shallots a lot of successs!

Sincerely,
Genuine Foody

This place is a delicacy of French bistros. The outdoor seating is something you would see in Ratatouille. The food is so good it's like a mouse was in the chefs hat cooking up delicious food.

I was in Chicago for a conference and the organizers ordered a Kosher lunch from Shallots Bistro. They ordered the menu item "The Bomb" it was a pretzel bun filled with all sorts of deli meats and sauces. It was quite delicious, which is good because they ordered it 4 times that week!

One of the evenings my wife and I went out to Shallots and we had a wonderful time, the steaks were expertly prepared and drinks were refreshing and the dessert quite interesting.
Great place for a special night out.

Shallots Bistro is a paragon for sophisticated, yet homey food mastery.
I have heard that people fly in from NY to Chicago to dine at Shallots but couldn't quite understand why....UNTIL I had dinner here.
The food tasted delicious and was brought out quickly, wait staff was courteous and knowledgeable. Dinner was expensive, but considering similar style restaurants in NY - reasonable.

Review of New Shallots- challenge accepted!

Review of New Shallots- challenge accepted!

Wow! First word that comes to my mind, just wow. Today I decided, let's change and do something different, and decided to eat at shallots no wallet barriers, here's what I found. I came in with my work-out shorts and t-shirt, something I believe few have that audacity to pull off.
This didn't phase my waiter. I mean this is the best waiter I have ever had! Hands down. He's respectfull, mindful, kind, patient, sociable, and overall the ideal waiter everyone wants. His name is Christopher and I highly recommend everyone ask for him because he makes the experience more than it is.
The new design of shallots is simple, and extremely elegant. They have Removed the bar and now sit you with everyone else, which makes you feel more comfortable and at home by not outing you as a cheap chump. The first dish I got was this sushi which was really good. I think it's called fugomati. I ordered the chefs special. The artsi design just says wow! At first it will throw you off because usually a steak is flat cut but this was in a square design, regrettably some parts of the steak were dry but the sauce that it came with cured it immediately. I asked for medium rare and it was more done then rare. Still it was delicious and perfect. The potatoes and asparagus were on point and well worth it. While I was eating there was a birthday there, and they brought out this amazing dessert ART. Looked like art. With candles and all that just impressed me even more. And when I finally got to my brownie ala mode. Seriously, no contest. I couldn't tell if it was dairy or not. Just really out there, amazing. Thanks shallots for making my evening dinner a real experience! Way to go!

I was there with Colonial Property Management at noon time. The service was excellent! The starters & appetizers were extremely delicious! The steaks was out of this world! Deserts was more than expected! I would recommend them for everyone being in that area. Remember to wear a face mask while not actively eating or drinking.....

Food was decent but way overpriced. The steaks were just ok. The food was decent but overpriced. Disappointing small overpriced wine list. Milts bbq which i had the following night was much better food at a much lower price
