I eat at Shallots very frequently, The food at this restaurant is overall very solid, waiters are nice and helpful. It's a bit pricey but not too crazy being that they are one of the only quality kosher steakhouses currently in Chicago.
Complaint: The wine here is Extremely extremely grossly over priced. I am generally not a complainer and rarely write reviews but the wine pricing here is marked up over 1000%! For example they charge $17 a glass for the Benyamina reserve cab which is $23 a bottle tops if you were to pick it up at a store, do a quick google price search for yourself. They aren't preparing anything special for the wine, just pouring it no reason why they need to make more than 100%. I haven't been to any other kosher restaurants anywhere with this type of wine pricing, very upsetting and really needs to be changed..... this would never float in an area with more restaurant options.
Side Suggestion: the bread dips have got to go feels like I'm having Friday night dips from the grocery store. You should change it to a nice oil n garlic dip, bread should be sliced (toasted) and presented better as well. If you ask around I'm confident most of your customers would agree. Sorry for the anonymous email address but my wife didn't allow me to put my real name down :).

Wishing Shallots a lot of successs!

Sincerely,
Genuine Foody
