Rooms were average. Bathroom tub was a little dingy. Location was decent for the price. Area does look a little run down but overall it's not bad. Would recommend avoiding the breakfast package for the hotel. The restaurant is way overpriced for the food and there are much better options elsewhere.

So far my stay has been great. I'm attending a business event at the Hilton (which is right across the street). The room is clean and the decor is nice. There is no room service but there's a in house restaurant that I will be trying tonight.
Hotel is okay, small rooms but clean. Staff is nice except for the parking valet they have. They will steal from your vehicle once you leave it with them. My sunglasses got stolen from my vehicle and when I confronted the parking lot manager he said that it happens all the time. You will pay over $65 to valet your vehicle with them and give them a chance to steal everything they can from you. NOT WORTH IT. There is a parking garage across the street for half the price and you park it yourself so you don't have to worry about the Valet digging through your car to steal whatever they can.
I came here to visit a friend and the hotel was very nice. Her room wasn't particularly spacious, but it was cozy and suited her just fine. Everyone seemed friendly. The surrounding streets seem filled with homeless people but that's probably not something they can really do anything about.
I booked at the Serrano hoping to relax a day before leaving San Francisco, but the hotel didn't match my expectations. The room was really small, WiFi was terrible and the staff couldn't even provide us with a HDMI cable when we requested one.
Arrived at 13 nn you can be received saying that the room was not yet ready. Hotel all with carpet. In the bathroom missing bidet as almost all US hotels
I really enjoyed my stay but I ended up leaving behind a $200 purchase. When I asked housekeeping about it they indicated that it had not been found. I know for certain that I left it which means someone has taken it.
Location, location, location!! Within walking distance to the Subway (BART), local public transport (trams/buses) and the Powell Street to Pier 39 heritage tram service. Many tourist attractions close by. Multiple car parking options. Hire a cycle and see the sights! Cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge is a must do and the concierge will help you set it up. While the restaurant (Jaspers) does provide breakfast and basic meal service, it leaves much to be desired. However, multiple food options are available on nearby streets, within a five to ten minute walk distance. Rooms are old but well maintained and spacious.
7/24 This is a discounted hotel in a very dirty neighborhood. A block away homelessness is rampant with people urinating and defeating on the side walks. Parking around the hotel is only in garages, and if you have a motorcycle, you will have to park nearly a mile away. That being said, the room was decently clean and very small. Be prepared to be charged an extra $150 for deposit that no one will tell you about at the front desk. I made my reservation by phone last minute. But when I got there, they had no record of it. I would not stay here again.
7/26 Update after my stay, my credit card company called me to tell me they shut my card off due to possible fraudulent charges. The hotel charged me 6 times for over $1900 for only a 2 night stay that should have been $425. I called the hotel about the charges and am told their system is down so they can't look into it, which was the same response I got yesterday morning when I tried to check out. I said I would wait because I wanted the receipt to make sure the original $150 overcharge was removed. Fortunately I have another card I can use, or this would have completely ruined my trip. My credit card company is going to refund the money, but that takes time to post to my account. Another day that I don't have during my trip. Stay away from this place.
Solid place to stay for a cheaper price than the others in the area. It's older, and the room wasn't in the best shape. For instance, there was a hole in the drapes. Regardless, it was clean and did the job. Staff was very friendly. Free coffee in the morning. Connected to Jasper's which has some solid food and drink options. All in all, it's good enough.
Serrano is a cute little boutique hotel located in the Tenderloin area within walking distance to Union Square.
I scored a pretty good deal for 3 nights on Hotwire then find out valet parking is $52/night! I ended up parking at the lot across the street. I believe it's $39 with in and out privileges.
Check-in & out was a breeze! I got upgraded from a queen bed on the 6th floor to a king bed on the 17th floor at no additional charge. Be sure to ask during check-in for availability.
I love the complimentary wine hour located in the lobby. From 5pm- 6pm you get unlimited pours of Prosecco and Cab. They also have complimentary coffee & juice from 7am- 10am.
Free wifi if you sign up for their loyalty program.
To be honest, I enjoyed my stay and the hotel services were great, however, my room was tiny! It was literally almost too small for 1 person. I'd upgrade to a suite if I stay here again. I also think they should consider doing some renovation. The bathroom is a bit dingy and some areas of the room seems a bit outdated.
No desks in the lovely newly renovated suite. No business center to work from. Had to find a Starbucks. Can't get work done here.
Hotel was under serious renovation (unwarned when making direct reservation), but very friendly staff. Lack of workspace in a suite is a showstopper for me.
This hotel was great. The things I like from home this hotel had. Good bed and dense pillow. Water pressure was great in the shower and the gym on-site had free weights (but no machines or chin-up bars) and good cardio equipment. Would for sure stay here again and recommend to others. Price was also less than many of the comparable hotels in the area.
Interesting linear layout on the 16th floor I was... Quaint comfortable one could almost say luxurious. Nice use of wood in the spa like bathroom. I must say I slept on the comfortable firm bed immediately upon falling into an heavenly arrangement of bed pillows.
Fees fees fees, Did not enjoy our experience, staff pulled a fast one on us about parking. Rooms are small, bathrooms are smaller. Next time we will make sure not to stay here. Felt like I was going to fall through the bathtub. Everything had an up charge too. 25$ a day extra hotel fee, 60$ a day for parking, Held an extra 75$ a day for damages. No free ride services. Stay at the Warwick or Hilton.
I'm not even willing to give this hotel 1 star but it's requiring me to. My husband had a room booked for a business trip on a corporate card through his employer. He got to the hotel at 8pm and they wanted to put a deposit equal to the amount of the ENTIRE STAY on his personal credit card because there wasn't some "credit authorization form" filled out a week in advance (we were NEVER notified of this and the room was already paid for). When I called to pay for one night on a different credit card so he would at least have a place to stay for tonight, I was refused because they can't take a credit card over the phone due to whatever policy. So now my husband is stranded because of this poor excuse for a hotel. BEWARE!!!
I came here for a conference, but unfortunately became ill during my stay. Because I was not feeling well, I booked a single room last-minute at the Serrano rather than staying in the room I was going to share with two friends at the Marriott. My room had all the amenities I wanted except for an in-room coffee maker; however, I requested one and it was immediately supplied. The atmosphere has a lot of character and the building is beautiful while maintaining modern conveniences such as central air and a super-fast wireless connection that is included in the price. Will definitely stay here again rather than one of the larger chains the next time I am in San Francisco.
It has a lot of construction happening outside which made it hard to find and meet my friend there. I also realized the hotel changed names and I had the old name so it took a while to realize that they're the same hotel.
Overall, the hotel property is totally acceptable. The rooms are big enough for two people, however if you have a child with you, beware that there are no sofas and while the hotel will provide you with spare blankets, they do not provide roll away beds. All of the staff have been helpful and courteous and I have no complaints about the service I received. The hotel has no pool or spa, and while they advertise free Wi-Fi, you will be charged a $20 "Urban fee" for the Wi-Fi and access to the gym. Also, be aware that the location of the hotel itself is not in a highly desirable area. It is surrounded by people sleeping on the street day and night, though they keep to themselves for the most part. and the trash around the neighborhood is vast.
We loved our stay at Hotel Spero! All of the little details really do make the difference. Decor was beautiful + minimal while still making you feel like you were in a cozy and welcoming environment. Soap was in refillable containers or eco friendly packaging. Every day you say no housekeeping you get a $5 voucher to the restaurant. Postcards are available which they will mail for free for you! Loved that. Would recommend & would stay again!
The room was stylish, modern, comfortable, and clean - it didn't feel like a generic beige hotel room. No tea/coffee facilities in the room though. I couldn't give five stars because a $29.99 per day 'Amenity Fee' was a bit of a surprise after I received my invoice. A small card had been slipped inside my room key folder advising of the fee, but the fee was not explained to me (or able to be opted out of). This was to cover morning coffee from the hotel lobby (which was often empty), a welcome pack (two very small bottles of water and some earplugs), newspapers and the gym. I don't believe $119 for three cups of coffee represents value for customers. I would have liked to have given a higher rating, but a $29/day (almost hidden) fee for these basics has affected my rating.
Hotel was clean and well maintained. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. My room was clean and the decor was very modern. The bathroom was small though.
I looked up pictures before staying over here and to much surprise the lobby is smaller than I thought. The elevators are a bit old but they get you down to the lobby fast. The room was nice, we had a view with a glass shower and a mirror with a lighting around the whole mirror which was great for doing makeup. The tv was big and there were full body mirrors with urban decoration around the room. The area is nice considering you re in the middle of everything and it s convenient to walk across the street for snacks and alcohol. The microwaves have to be rented so be sure that if you bring food you either rent one out or don t put it in the fridge lol. The room walls are really thin, we heard people in the next room sneezing and talking it was kind of weird. Also the door to your hotel room is at least an inch off the ground so anything you do in the room can be heard next door and out in the hall. If you do bring a car make sure you check where to park because the parking garage next to the hotel will charge a lot for overnight parking.
One star for the location! The cleanliness and hygiene leave a lot to be desired. In the first room we had black mold in the bathroom and the ventilation. In the second room leftovers were hanging on the ceiling. We couldn't use the glasses in either room because they were smeared.
Hotel Spero is a cute hotel. plenty of lobby seating area to wait for your ride. Room service was very nice, and the hotel location was reasonably close to a lot of good food in the area.
Nice location. Near union square. Less than 10min walk. The rooms are ok. Not too big. Kinda have an old hotel vibe. They have free coffee in the lobby in the morning. Also, if you're looking for a convenience store, Walgreens is just one block away.
Located just a few blocks from Union Square the location is pretty good but it is quite close to some of the more gritty blocks in SF. Having said that, I had a great stay and I would not mind going back.
Nice room and excellent location. Seemed pretty good value compared to the nearby competition. They could improve the service a little at breakfast, but other than that I found very little to fault
They are renovating. this is a historic old place. I think this would qualify as a boutique hotel. it appears to be locally owned & operated. why 3/5 *'s? There were surprise fees at the front desk on check-in. They were for 'ammenities' like wifi & weight room. We were reserved for one night& weren't likely to use these. There was satellite TV but no coffee in the room. That was a first for us.
Great room and bathroom. Area can be a bit rough (Tenderloin). Shame there's no bottled water provided in the room as a minimum service, and the fridge being located in the nightstand makes quite a bit of noise.
Clean but rooms are small even for SF. They add a $30 resort fee to each night which was not disclosed which makes the price not very good vs comparable hotels in the area. Overall not recommend.
Staying at the Serano Hotel was a fantastic experience. The lobby is absolutely GORGEOUS, and although we didn't use them, the hotel comes equipped with a dry sauna and a weight room. There is a house bar (Jasper's), which has some interesting cocktails. Happy hour 10pm to close. The room was alright - a little small, and the layout was kind of strange, but historical buildings are like that. Overall I loved my stay here, and I think you will too.
Room looked nothing like the advertised picture. Much, much smaller. Also got hit with a $163 hotel fee (after I already paid in full for my reservation online). NO PARKING! You have to pay between $42 and $48 per day for parking. Only a couple of blocks away from the homeless district so yes, they wander close to the hotel.
The location of the hotel is great. Really central. The staff were all very nice. My room was comfortable. However their urban fee is a bit much. A high cost without much benefit and really tainted my stay there.
Great location with helpful reception and staff on tap. Buckets of coffee in the morning. The restaurant attached to the hotel is pleasant and has a wide menu. Care should be taken when ordering wine .... hellish expensive. The rooms were good but no coffee or tea facilities.
$40 per night parking for a start. They will tell you on the phone that it's $32 a night but with the city tax it is 40. We did however get a good deal on the hotel.
A major concern was that my wife was taking the Bell cart to the room, and specifically told the bellman that she did not want help. The bellman decided that she did need help and entered the elevator with her. She did not feel this was malicious, however it was an invasion of her privacy and her request. Particularly she did not want to be on the elevator with anyone else during covid.
The rooms are nice enough, very cramped bathrooms nd rather strange spiky plastic succulents placed on the walls as a sort of decoration, or perhaps horror movie set.
The elevators are very fast, the workout room is spacious and reasonably well appointed. The staff was friendly and helpful other than the awkward experience listed above. As for the restaurant, we didn't eat there.. we were put off by the $17 avocado toast.
Overall, the stay at this hotel was fantastic. However, I am given it two stars because I was charged an "Urban Fee" after my stay. The receptionist at the front desk asked for my credit card when I arrived and stated that it would be for any "incidentals" yet they never explained they would be charging that card with an Urban Fee. Such a dishonest practice that takes advantage of customers. Beware.
nothing to complain. Near to union square, good wifi, free coffee/tea at lobby daily, clean room, comfortable bed, functional and neat washroom, toiletries provided (toothbrush not provided fyi). Always manage to get a uber during the day here within 3 minutes. I don t drive but I think parking is going to cost around 50-70 usd overnight. There s a couple of car rental shops within one minute walk.
The hotel staff was great. Everyone was helpful, polite and had a good sense of humor. The room was ready and clean when we arrived. Stayed for 4 days and Room was on the small side but honestly that wasn't an issue since we just used it to rest. The hotel is walking distance to plenty of hot spots in San Fran and close to public transportation. Don't let the homeless people reviews turn you away, the area is safer than it looks and it's nothing you dont see in other big cities. The coffee/tea area was up and running at 5am so that was a life saver. Parking is expensive but it's the same all over the city so if you dont need a car, avoid renting one. Would definitely stay here agin!
