Eco Friendly, very quiet and peaceful, great customer service!
Love hotel Spero but this time around my sleep was interrupted by itchiness. Two bedbugs were in my bed which woke me up as I'm highly allergic. They comped my room for the night which was appreciated. And they promised to bomb the room to prevent future infestations.
The location and service are perfect to enjoy a visit to San Francisco
Rooms smaller than average, but clean and tidy. The staff are helpful and very friendly
Not off to a hot start. I got here early before 3pm check in and was supposed to get a call when my room was ready, no call. Came back after 4pm and 30 minutes later I'm waiting for my room and check in. My room is clean but not "inspected" because they had a housekeeping meeting. Meanwhile every other person that checks in gets a key and a room immediately. I've watched now 7 other people check in while I'm still waiting nearly 2 hours after check in time. Will update after rest of stay if it gets and better.
Edit - room is nice and got a breakfast voucher for the delayed check in. Location so far is super convenient as well.
Wonderful hotel. Nice staff, very clean, lots of history.
Great hotel with a rich history and some very elegant decor. A great location for the price
The hotel is located in a central area, not far from Powell and Union Square. It has some defects, but it is clean, with nice rooms with a view and, above all, the staff is very kind.
Serrano is an amazing place to stay near Union Square! It's a great old hotel with a beautiful lobby but also modern amenities such as central air and a very convenient soap dispenser in the shower. You do have to pay for Wifi $28 per night. The convenience of having Jaspers next door is great for a quick bite and drink during happy hour and you get a discount if you mention you are staying at the Serrano. The rooms views are second to none of the city and were my favorite part of my stay! Would definitely be back. Coffee is free in the lobby in the morning but no breakfast. The refrigerator in the room is mostly full of an amazing mini bar selection so there's not much room for leftovers.
So far, so good. They do tend to try and nickel and dime you a bit with their added amenities, but we're enjoying our stay so far.
I liked the hotel. The rooms and lobby seemed a little dated, but they were nice and had character. The room was not humongous. I did not go to Jaspers (the bar downstairs) but my friends did and they hated the gouda mac and cheese. I would stay there again.
Incredible place to stay, and will stay here every time I come to SF. Modern, clean, and worth it's 4-star rating. Though it's located in the Tenderloin, the hotel itself does not reflect it's surroundings. I didn't feel threatened in terms of safety, having been dropped off at the front door from my Uber. That is, I wasn't too concerned about the 15 foot walk to the door, and the hotel itself felt very safe. Also, the food was amazing. The only downside is that there is no desk, but the hotel is nice enough to make me overlook that.
Stayed here for four nights in a suite with my wife a daughter.. The room rate was acceptable but not great when we consider the view we had of a broken ventilation system from the window on one side and the fire escape and wall on the other! Also, I was aware that the urban fee would be added to the rate but not the following tourist occupancy tax at 14%, the Moscone expansion district tax, the visit california assessment fee and the previously mentioned unban fee taxation totalizing at a daily additional $80 more or less and yes I'm sure its all in the small print!! On the positive side, the rooms were clean, bed comfortable, staff great and friendly. Jasper's restaurant for breakfast was average compared to all other breakfast options we tried in the downtown area and for three breakfasts, one for a four year old including a tip came to just under $100!! .. The city is a great place to visit but just be aware of the potential for the average hotels costing far above their pay grade.. Wouldn't return to hotel spero...
easy access to time square and downtown SF by walking, all shops and restaurants closeby, also short walk to target center, westfield mall and trolley rides
Room was clean and of medium size. It was comfortable and nicely decorated. Bathroom toilet was right against the wall which while not impossible to sit on was a bit uncomfortable
A good hotel with helpful staff based on a 1 night stay. Yes, the building is on the older side, so the rooms are smaller than in newer hotels with more room to grow, but they still get the job done. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was fine, and the restaurant was good, though a bit pricey (not surprising in a big city.) I'm not a coffee drinker, but I hear they have free coffee, so that's nice.
The neighborhood is on the poor side, yes, though I can't really fault the hotel for that. Homelessness is a serious problem in SF, and this hotel happens to be located near places with a lot more of them. Visitors to the city will have to decide how much that will affect their plans when picking a hotel.
I would consider this a hidden gem in San Francisco! I stumbled upon the Serrano after striking out on a shared housing website for something that wasn't an arm and a leg and a shared bathroom. I got the best rate by booking on their website. From the moment of check in, it was a high class experience! The room and bathroom were comfortable and clean. Yes, it's not a small room, but you are in downtown San Francisco, what do you expect? I never felt the room was too small.
Was in a ok area. The hotel has a really cool design on the inside. But how ever it did smell bad. Like old rugs or something. The room we had was nice. The bed was clean and sleeper well. The bathroom was small. Like could not get the two of use ready in the morning. As for the people that work there. They where supper helpful and friendly.
It was, fine. The lobby is nice and the front desk staff seemed very polite. Unfortunately my room was outdated and more concerning, there was a layer of dust everywhere in the room. On glasses, on vents, it was off putting. Still, a great location and a so so experience.
Hotel rooms were clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is not bad, close to Union square and a trolley stop.
Adequate bed and good size room for SF, but super small bathroom, no ice machine on my floor, and super small tv. Extra $30 daily "urban fee" also
It s ok for the price. Good location and good staff, but the property is a bit dated. We liked the view from the 17th floor, and were happy with the stand in shower. Biggest complaint is the ridiculous AC noice. It s very loud and makes it hard to fall and stay asleep. Also, rooms are tiny. We didn t really care because we spent most of our time outside, but it s a real cluster.
The servers at the restaurant and bar were rude. Rolled their eyes at us when we asked for a water glass, which we had to ask multiple servers for. We also had to ask multiple people for the check and we sat waiting for around 20 minutes for both the check and the water glass.
Staff was profess and friendly. We arrived too early for check-in but they were happy to hold our bags for us as we left to attend Pride. We came back quite late at night and they got us all checked in no problem. The room was clean and well stocked, the bed was very comfortable, and the curtains shut out all light. Despite being in a loud part of town, the room was utterly silent. Wonderful stay.
Really nice comfortable room brilliant location and lovely view
Location is good. Near by main street and room interior is quiet modern.
Comfortable hotel in walking distance to Union Square.
I love this hotel.. The design of the room is simple yet classic! I got the city view and the glimpse of San Fo is a real city beauty.. The food in Harper's Kitchen is tasty and generous with the ingredients.. The staff are friendly and accommodating! They have early check in and late check out choices to which they send you by email.
I never get to see other of their amenities yet their team well maintain the hotel really good.
I highly recommend this hotel and will be back in the future!
Pros: Clean, modern, sufficiently spacious, great environmentally conscious programs (best in class in this area).
Cons: located in the not-so-pretty part of the city.
There seems to be flee like bugs flying around the room, the floors are dirty and since we were here for a convention and received the convention hotel rate, we were denied amenities "regular customers" received including a bottle of water. We were given plastic cups we were to fill up with water from another floor.
When we were checking in, they claimed that we booked the wrong dates and they would make exceptions for us however having to pay a premium rate as if they were doing us a favor. When I showed them our online confirmation, they easily accommodated us.
The rooms are ok, our view is a wall, I assume that is because of our conference rate
I would not choose to stay here again
While on the pricey end (for a college student--$42/person for dinner), the venue was decently well-suited for the end-of-the-year banquet held there. Spacious and acceptably-decored.
Its an old hotel... Very small rooms and super small bathroom... You have no leg space for bath room at all... That was really funny...
Overall stay was good but there were a few things that didn't make me happy. First, I asked the front desk for a tooth brush and they asked me to go downstairs to get it. Second, the water shut off randomly in the morning while we were getting ready. Third, the location has a lot of homeless people around so the smell and surroundings are not that pleasent.
Very small, poor, old and bad guality rooms, bedsatellite ridiculous small bathroom are so bad and need be refunich
Good, nothing special but good bar its doesn't have parking but is good
Location of the hotel is very good one is, on foot, very fast on Union Square.
Unfortunately, I can not understand the specified "Tageszuschlag", because this actually represents a price increase and you would have to add this equal to the actual price, as there are no extra / special services or similar. on the spot
Very beautiful hotel. Great location, great service. You even get to choose the scent of your room. Would def stay again. Only call out was that it's slightly small to where you're almost hitting furniture when opening doors
We had a very special stay here over Christmas in 2020. Checked in Thursday the 24th and checked out Sunday 27th. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very COVID aware, they have an entire sanitization station with wonderful scents and even a couple UV sanitizing boxes for random items. We saw them constantly sanitizing the lobby with one of those backpack misters too. They made it feel like we were the only guests in the hotel (we were not but also it wasn't crazy busy either). The parking garage right next door is a little pricey but way worth it and very convenient. We were upgraded to the luxury suite and the room was awesome. Nice living room with city views with plenty of room to be comfortable. Overall a great experience and we would stay again! Not to mention great location and walking distance from Union Square, the Grace Cathedral and much more.
I feel comfortable here. This is our second time staying. Great location to walk to Union Square, Port of San Francisco, Chinatown, Japantown
Nice little "vintage" or "boutique" hotel. Walls a little thin, but otherwise no problems with the hotel at all. Only thing to watch out for is unpublicized $20 per night "urban fee". Make sure to factor in an additional $20 when comparing hotels.
Hotel was great and our room had an excellent view of the city. Staff was friendly and even held a conversation with us. Coffee there was fantastic also. The location was quite far from the main attractions, but the walk is worth it.
Close to the Market strip, but neighborhood isn't the greatest. Spacious rooms with a nice view. My room was right next to the elevator, so I heard squeezing everytime that thing moved. Good service, and probably one of the best workout facilities I've seen in a hotel
The hotel is a bit worn and at the edge of the Tenderloin, but it's clean and the staff was friendly. There's free coffee in the lobby to get you out the door in the morning. Don't expect anything too awesome from this hotel but it will give you a decent room and a good night's sleep.
Convenient, clean and above all affordable... Per SF standards. No real wow factor. Will book again
somehow aged on everything even towel has marked in it.
Nice restaurant down stairs with good food. Room was cozy with a great view of the city.
Good overall, maybe a tad overpriced. Rooms were new and comfortable, somewhat noisy. Good location, easy to reach.
Good hotel to spend the night downtown and good service
Friendly welcome. I forgot my gray Reebook size 36-37 brand new ... if you found them ^^
Really good quality for the modest price. Booked via Expedia to get best value. Check in clerk was friendly. Theres is the possibility to ask for no room cleaning during your stay for green consideration and subsequently rebates for the downstairs hotel restaurant. However, Tenderloin's surround street local population can be unfriendly and harassing so you have to know about that. Rooms are clean and decorated with taste.
Great Art Deco lobby, awesome coffee service in the morning
The room is nice, though small. The bed is comfortable.
I got a "city view" room and my vote is a parking garage.
Location is excellent.
The hotel had a renovation and the rooms are cute, small, but normal size for SF. We had a late checkout and got a few vouchers to jasper's which was nice. The hotel isnt in the best area, can be very sketchy at times. Some decent food in the area but touristy vibes for the most part. Fine place to stay but hangout elsewhere.
There were some comments from some people, but it was very good when I stayed. It was renovated in general and was comfortable. If you are different from the imperial hotel, you may not understand the price of San Francisco. This city is one of the most expensive places in the United States, so this is a great deal for this price.
Love it! Good service, good employees and Tuesdays and Thursdays they have wine in the lobby to have a good moment! Love the experience!!
We enjoy staying at boutique hotels in San Francisco, and now have a favorite! Room is almost perfect, the bath is better than expected from other reviews. The staff has been wonderful. Glad we found The Serrano.
Dreaming before I arrived and long after I left. What's to remember
Quaint lobby and very polite staff. Nice pub in the hotel itself. Very well located at Union Square which makes everything pretty close by. Great rooms as well. Nice bathrooms
I was really looking forward to my stay but never even actually got into the building. The hotel was unable to accommodate for my being handicapped and in a wheelchair. You had no handicap space available in your parking garages or any of the parking garages within 5 blocks. The valet where unable to even allow me to park in one of there spaces, they could not accommodate me. They would park my car but I could not get out in front of the hotel in my condition it takes me a very long time to get in my chair and I need my husband's help and I scream in pain it's not something I wanted Your Valet staff to help me with. I certainly hope you could understand that. I never actually got to see anything else when it came to your hotel I'm sure it was lovely. One out of the three people I talked to on the phone was very nice and he did try to help accommodate me but he was unsuccessful. Tasha
Costlier than other hotels in the area, is small and has less facilities.
Clean and modern rooms. Friendly staff. A great stop for all.
Located in the ghetto, rickety old elevator, no closets, and tiny rooms. Would not recommend.
Very nice hotel, rooms well equipped, good staff, good gym and a handy cafe/restaurant in the ground floor. Would recommend.
Stayed here over a weekend, room itself was good, no issues, lobby was nice as well. Elevator wait times were not too bad compared to other hotels.
Nice enough hotel. Great location, great staff, rooms dated but beds comfortable.
I have stayed here several times however this past stay will sadly be my last the location is great and usually a decent price for a four star hotel. My past stay was pure hell. I was already irritated that the remote wasn't anywhere to top it off there were bed bugs in the bed when I could the desk clerk said oh I'm pretty sure they aren't can u send my security. I had just taken NyQuil coming down with a cold not feeling well now this. They switched rooms but by time they did they I was all bit up and having allergic reactions from the bites and couldn't even have valet comped the next morning when running to check out of there. Time to renovate big time.
Nice place for a drink. The desgin of the place is good. Recommend for a drink
Very cozy, from room to elevators. Great location, five minutes walking distance to Union Sqare and Powell St.
Good value. Bad neighborhood. Restaurant Jasper's is good too.
