It's clean. The room size was decent, but, on the smaller side. The was coffee offered at the reception desk. It was clean. If you get the room at the right price, then the hotel is just fine. The stairwell and elevator in this hotel is a bit tight.

Please do not stay in this hotel. Absolutely the worst valet service I've ever experienced. Instruction on the valet ticket reads "Text 415-xxx-xxxx with your ticket number and hotel name. Your car will be ready in 15 minutes." So I did just that. Got a text response right away that read "Your car is being retrieved. It will be ready to pick up in 15 min." After 40 min, nothing. We were standing outside the hotel waiting for our car and we had an appointment to catch, so time is of the essence. The head of the valet service saw us looking stressed but he did NOT once ask us "do you need help?" or "what's your ticket number?" He was standing there looking bored. We asked him the update on our car, he said "Please be a little patient." Really?! After you saw us waiting for almost 1 hour for our car, you are telling us to be patient? We went inside the lobby to get the manager, he made a phone call and said, "Your car will be ready in a minute." After 5 minutes, our car came from a garage just right next to the hotel. It seemed they did not even get our car on our first request. Very unprofessional and rude valet guy with greasy hair swooped back - if you see this guy, just look for the manager because he is of no help.

The hotel is charming and staff in the AM very friendly. The bathroom is small but our room was nice and quiet. Great part of San Fran to walk to conference center. We had a negative experience with the Bell staff that insisted the only way to the airport was using the Lorrie Airport Shuttle, turns out the bell staff get a cut of the profits and there are a lot of other drivers at 5AM. The Lorrie Shuttle (that has terrible reviews) driver was careless and the bell staff was dishonest about having to stop at other hotels. The hotel staff needs to read the reviews of this shuttle and be honest and helpful with guests.

Shopping 2 blocks East the hotel; in walking distance is the high end shopping favorites close to U Sqr.

Walk south a few blocks though... and the homelessness is everywhere. I never felt unsafe, just felt sorry for so many hardships.

Let me start off by addressing the narrative that this is in a bad area - ALL of downtown SF is a basically a bad area in regards to the homeless population. (To be honest I never felt scared and I walked back to the hotel pretty late some nights). The rooms are small but VERY nice (great for the price). Amenities found on their website (all of them) are DOPE. The lobby is great and they have a free coffee/tea table in the morning (get there early). There's a restaurant connected to the hotel and that's convenient. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. There's a parking structure just next door that maxes out at (what I believe is) $30. Staff is super nice too. Also, everything fun is like a $5 Lyft away!

He will appointed hotel with a funky lobby and a cool young vibe. Hotel staff are friendly and attentive. The hotel room itself was small, but ultra modern in terms of fixtures and amenities and make excellent use of the small space. Certainly what you would expect from a room in downtown San Francisco. The cleanliness of the units were excellent even day to day. The location of this hotel is good in terms of being right downtown, however it certainly is in a less than desirable part of town. One can certainly appreciate the homeless situation up close here as well as others with obvious mental health issues setting up camp nearby or transiting through the area regularly.

Took over 20 minutes to check in due to only one person working front counter and person in front of us did not have a working credit card. The deluxe king room was very very small, the bathroom was so intrusive you could not stand directly in front of the sink and mirror very awkward little space. Also if driving planning for parking is a must or at least be prepared to pay for it.

Decent hotel, not modern. Stayed here while attending a conference at the Hilton. Significantly cheaper and catercorner from the Hilton. On the edge of the not so nice part of town with lots of homeless people. Jaspers is on the bottom floor, good place to get "American" food and beer. The hotel provides $5 vouchers for Jaspers if you decline to have your room cleaned. The Hotel provides coffee and tea. I would probably stay here again.

This place is clean, quiet, and comfortable! Friendly staff and delicious breakfast (not normally included, but my group got vouchers with our booking). The bath was great for soaking which was awesome!

Pretty, old, elegant lobby. Cute rooms---clean and updated, but not at all modern. Comfortable bed and pillows. You may be accosted by homeless people as soon as you leave the place, but hey, that's San Francisco.

We just came back from our stay at the Serrano Hotel. My family loved it! The original architecture and the updated rooms were pleasant. The staff was very friendly and they greet you at the entrance, opening the door to the main entrance for you. The rooms were clean! Walking distance to the shops, mall and restaurants. The view from our room was breathtaking! Definitely returning.

Got a room calling just a few days ahead of our stay. I think our studio suite got upgraded because we ended up in a suite with doors to the bedroom instead of just a curtain divider. It's an older hotel, but well taken care of. The windows open which I really appreciate. My husband and I like sleeping with the sounds of the city. (We might be strange in that.) The pull out couch was comfortable according to our kids. We needed a few extra towels. When I asked the bellman, Trey about the best way to get some, he got on his radio to housekeeping and ordered them for me right away. Fast and easy check in and check out. Just a short walk east to Union Square and the cable car turn around at Powell and Market.

The rooms and beds are way too small and a double room with 4 people will feel too crowded. The valet parking has been slow (about 20 minutes to deliver our car). And the room has only two power outlets, again not enough for 4 people.

This is a very nice hotel. You don t always know what you re going to get in SF, and this was a pleasant surprise. I got a room on the 10th floor and it was well furnished, clean, and quiet. The staff was very friendly.

The hotel room is nice, but the lobby furniture is not something that you want to sit on. The area is dangerous and you can't go out walking at night. I would recommend you find a safer place to stay.

Had a good time at this pretty central SF boutique hotel. Lobby is impressive. Rooms are modern, with super large tv, and comfy bed, A/C, etc. Parking is super expensive though. Tip: Go across the street and park your car yourself to save about $20/day. You get $5 off the bar/restaurant next door if you turn down room service. The area was iffy, with some shady characters hanging outside the stores on the corner all night, but only 2 blocks from Union Square and all the tourists. I rolled the dice with Hotwire to get this place and I d say I was happy.

Came down for a weekend just to relax. The reviews of this place are very deciving. The room was outdated and not clean. The front desk women that I spoke to about parking seemed to be very lost and without knowledge on the hotels parking situation. So we just paid for local garage parking 40$ a night. I was disgusted to find yellow stains on the mattress, under the sheets with holes in them. It's never a good sign to walk into your bathroom and find a half used role of tolet paper. I will never nor would I ever recommend this place to anyone or come back here. This place can only be compared to a motel 8 or motel 6.

Hotel is grand, very nice and clean lobby. Also bedroom was clean and nicely decorated so enjoyed this party but... very, very bad neighbourhood. We stayed in San Francisco for 4 nights as part of our journey thru states. Let's just say I would not venture outside after dark, even going around during the day made me feel on edge. After being in LA and seeing big American city I was really disappointed with SF
Just felt dangerous and was very dirty. And being few blocks from union square means nothing when Tenderloin is just around the corner... And marijuana was legalised 2 weeks ago so you get to smell and see stoners on every street, have nothing against it as recently been to Amsterdam but in SF it just feels out of control... enjoy it but don't bring it out in public, no need for it. Over all disappointed in trip to SF

The room is clean and comfortable. We're on the 15th floor on the corner of the building. So we have views to the west and north. Jasper's is fun, although we've only had one drink there. The staff are great. Willing to help in any way. I recommend it definitely.

Beds are small, over priced for what you get which is basically a small bed to sleep in. Outside is dirty and smells of pee from all the homeless people sleeping nearby. There's no parking reserved for the guest so good luck trying to find a garage which will make you pay $30+ just to have your car stay overnight.

This hotel was great. The room was clean and fairly large. The bathroom was small but very well appointed. I would stay here again. The only reason for 4 and not 5 stars is the walls seemed a bit thin and my neighbors were a bit noisy in the morning (singing, etc).

I don't really know what people look for in a hotel, but I'll give you an honest review. I really enjoyed the Hotel Spero. The location is central in San Francisco, it really is, if you're coming by Air, you hop on a train, it will take you right to their giant nordstrom mall, and it's just a quick walk or Uber up to the Hotel. (Like, 5 minute walk, depending on your speed, I don't have a long stride so it took me about 5 to get up there.)

Anyway, all around you is a historic building that they've tried to keep just that way, it's got the feel of a building made in the 1900s and that's the charm of it. The rooms are updated however, they have a modern but comfy feel to them, and quite frankly it's a good blend in my opinion. The elevators ARE on the small side, but that's because they're original, and it gives them that good cozy feel, but you can tell they're well maintained and are a good quick ride.

So as I said, the location is great, you're near their BART and Muni Transit so anywhere you want to go is really easy to get there, Google can absolutely tell you how to get there and it's not difficult. You want to go to the Zoo? Get on a Light Rail and go to the Zoo. You want to go to Fisherman's wharf? Go back down to the Nordstrom's Mall and get on the Historic Cable Car. That's right, you're five minutes from the cable car.

The hotel staff were always friendly and courteous, not just to us but to everyone else. If they spotted us coming down the street and were outside, they'd make sure the doors would be open and ready for us when we got there. Talk about good service!

The bed was EXTREMELY comfortable, the pillows were nice, the sheets were nice, everything about the room itself was nice. It was well maintained and taken care of, it was clean and comfortable, and it had a mini fridge. if you take the Green Option, you get 5$ off your next meal at Jasper's, which is the Restaurant down by the lobby. I would highly recommend taking advantage of Jasper's because their food is especially delicious. My personal recommendation is going for Brunch and having the Hazelnuts Brussel Sprouts, because they were REALLY good!

All in all, if you want to stay in a really good central hotel that isn't that expensive and has access to all the great amenities, then I suggest you stay at Hotel Spero.

This is one of my favorite places to stay in this area. They changed their name. It used to be Hotel Serrano.
The views are amazing, great customer service and they give you gifts when you check in.
I received a water botel, post card and a pencil that you can plant after you finish using it. It grows into a plant. Super cool.

They serve free coffee tea and water in the morning and there is an area where you can get filtered water in the lobby any time.

The rooms are very clean and the decor is amazing both in the rooms and in the lobby.

There's a restaurant downstairs that serve pretty good drinks and good bar food.

A nice place to stay and relax. Good location and adjacent parking made it very convenient. Staff were pleasant and the accommodations of the room were comfortable. I'd stay again and take advantage of the fitness center and try the restaurant.

The hotel is located near popular downtown spots like Union Square and Market St with easy access to Muni Buses and Cable cars. There's no free breakfast offered, but you can get tea/coffee in the morning in the morning. It would have been really good if they offered tea/coffee/got water in the room. (or provide an electric kettle) The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. I had one issue with the adjecent room. The rooms shared a wall and it was really disruptive when the neighbors talked loudly till 2 AM. Suggestion to the hotel to avoid allocation of such rooms unless shared by the same group. FYI, if you are booking the room from an external site, note that the price does not include hotel's 75$ daily fee. The site I booked from (Priceline) showed a price of 29$. Edit: The charge was replaced to 29$ after a week

Great hotel on a great location in San Francisco. Free internet, free (good) coffee and newspapers in the morning. You can also get some (free) bikes to see the city. 100% sure my goto hotel for SF.

The hotel is good and convenient. The deduction is only for the check-in, which was carried out by a rather grumpy lady. At first she ignored my vouchers, then she gave us (family of four) only one room, then she wanted to offer us a four-bed room for a fee. Only after I urged you to take a closer look at the reservations, she threw away the previously issued papers in exasperation and gave us a second room 6 floors away from the other. She booked our car as "oversized", which her colleague noticed immediately upon check-out and changed it.

Without this apparently overwhelmed lady everything would have been fine ...

Well designed rooms with many nice details. Mini-fridge that is actually cold! Very nice service at front desk, and restaurant downstairs looks delicious for vegan gf breakfast. Pleasantly surprised all the way around.

Priceline switched my hotel to this place. It is in the homeless area about 3 blocks from Union station where we originally were supposed to stay. Priceline never bothered to contact us about the switch. Tiniest rooms I have ever seen, They also tack an addition $28 a day to your bill for wi-fi even if you do not use it. complete rip-off.

DO NOT STAY HERE! When I arrived I found my room wasn't clean same day so my bed and furniture were covered in dust. When I complained about it, staff didn't even acknowledge it and instead of apologizing, they were rude. Seriously if you are in service industry, at least train your staff to be polite and friendly.

So so
