PARKING! They have no parking for their guest. If you want to pay them to park you can, but for me it would have been an extra $200 added on to my stay. That wasn t an option for me especially since I had to give them a $300 deposit not including the resort fees (another $150). Not paying for parking had a ripple effect because street parking meant parking blocks away and then waking up at 6 or 7 am to move the car or start the day. I got some beautiful sunrise photos as a plus. The room was a little small but they didn t bother me personally I had all the space I needed. Nice bar as well inside and the location itself was very convenient. They stay was decent but I wouldn t stay again with everything in consideration.

The rooms are nice and elegant, but small. There is no desk. The hotel is beautiful inside. Occasionally I hear other occupants but nothing kept me awake.... Other than the damn smoke alarm light. Why was that installed right over my bed???????

A decent property, recently refurbished with small but reasonably organized rooms, although the open 'wardrobe' wasn't long enough for my shirts, and the toilet roll holder could have been better positioned.

Well located provided you are comfortable around homelessness.

The staff were not particularly friendly, but the biggest problem was the $30 / night 'amenity fee' that was not mentioned either when I booked (on Booking.com) or when I checked in. It was eventually waived when I protested, but This feels like a deliberate deceptive business practice and I won't be staying here again.

Beautiful hotel in the downtown San Francisco area. Jaspers restaurant is easily accessible through the lobby of the hotel, and is open late. I would highly recommend Hotel Spero when visiting San Francisco!

Don't fool by the pictures of the hotel. This hotel ranked by priceline 4 star, but i think only 2 . Had stay one night and paid 5 star price. This is really old hotel, everywhere needs upgrade! Had chance talk to the manager about room reservation with double bed in the room. But he can't do anything to help.
if you want have pleasant trip at San Francisco, don't stay there!

Literally just got discriminated. I got turned down parking because I brought my commuter honda and got told vallet was full and my wife pulled up behind in our new car and was let in. I had to park a mile away and walked back to the hotel and was told it wasn't empty.

The hotel is close to Union Square, but also to the Tenderloin district, which is really not very recommendable, which should bring down the price of rooms that are small, dated and with anti-hygienic carpeting everywhere! Small bathroom. I'm sorry, but I think it's very overrated

Not a great location but room was adequate. Currently under construction. No hot water for morning shower and not a single soul to take your order at the restaurant in the morning. Fitness room was small and unsecured.

Pretty fine hotel in downtown SF. Walking distance to your rental car places, so just Uber/Lyft from the airport. Walking distance to many great places to eat at and to see (The Painted Ladys, Union Square, and cable car pick up spots).

Only downside was the large numbers of homeless camped out on street corners, but you will see that everywhere within 10 city blocks or more.

If you are having a short stay in San Francisco, 5-7 days, this hotel is great. Its clean, tidy and eco friendly. We got a free chilli bottle to refill water every day. The room is very nice although you can get a little noise in the mornings from traffic. It's all newly refurbished and the bed was very comfortable. Other cool stuff was free pencil which has plantable seeds in, and a free scent stick which you choose from reception to enhance the ambience of your room. Reception staff very nice and helpful too. If staying longer I would opt to stay in the fisherman's wharf area or a slightly more expensive area. There are some very rough parts in central San Fran. Avoid Eddy Street. You can also orientate yourself well from the location here as its near Union Square. Buses and trams are right outside too. You an also get a good breakfast or dinner in Jasper's the restaurant attached to the hotel and its fairly reasonably priced.

Not the best location in San Francisco. Room seem a bit dated and very dark. No coffee machine in room and little storage. It's clean enough but normal forgotten conveniences are unavailable. Not the worst place you could stay but it's certainly not one I would ever recommend

Staff was very friendly, service was great, room was clean. Only reason it didn't get 5 star was due to them giving away my room. I booked a king size bed but when I checked in yet had already given it away and gave me a double twin for my first night. Did not offer any price adjustment. Also a lot of misc fees

Beautiful hotel, conveniently located! Room looked clean, and the bed didn't have that weird dip from too many uses without being changed. One thing though: I am pretty short; shorter than average. By many inches. The mirror in the bathroom only showed my face. It was funny, but also a little inconvenient. Overall, thank you, Hotel Spero! Gorgeous venue.

I stayed at the hotel for a few nights. It is reasonably priced for the room you get and the staff members were nice. Its location is good since it is basically a 5-10 minute walk to the center of Union square.

There were rips and holes in the mattress cover. And the other outer sheet had a large possible blood like stain on it( pictured). The rooms themselves are nice enough, it's small but this is San Francisco. One big problem at least in my room was there is an enormously heavy chair that is impossible to pass by without stubbing your toe. The plant in the room is dying and needs to be watered. One of the plants seems to have some spider mites. I guess I would say that my biggest complaint is that the safe isn't even bolted to anything. Somebody could just take the whole thing and all your valuables with it. I will say that the front door man keeps a really good eye and everyone that comes in and out greeting you and welcoming you as you come and go. The elevators are a bit slow even though they have four of them two of them actually work. The location is great, being next to Union Square. I will reserve my decision of the decor since they are under construction while I was here. The large animals on the doors along with the dark theme is a little creepy, but I actually enjoy it more than some of the Marriott or other generic Hotel. Since I got this hotel on a deal I'm not at all concerned, but if I were to have paid 500 or more a night to stay here I don't think that would be acceptable. All in all a very good hotel especially for the location.

Had a quick stop into the hotel to meet with friends. The staff were very helpful and with public parking right next door it's simple to get in! The restaurant and bar had a great menu as well great seating. The restrooms have a keypad on them, which was a first for me, but were otherwise great and very clean. Our friends had nothing but great things to say about their stay and noted that the rooms wer great and very affordable.

Nice hotel. They have done a good job with the rooms and the common areas. In the theater district which is the Tenderloin. Literally stepping over the homeless in this area. Needles on the street and lots of other garbage. Always a bit rough, but has become much worse in the last few years.

Rooms were tiny, but well accommodated with amenities to make up for the small but efficient size. Love the extra large TV. Shower was surprisingly powerful for California.

Disappointed by the large amounts of a previous guests beard hair all over the shelf above the sink (with the glass cups), but as it was literally 8 hours for me to stay here, i didn't make a fuss.

Dig that they give you a water bottle to fill with their high end filtered water dispenser. And the seed pencil, nice touch.

We stayed there in mid-November and appreciated the friendly and helpful staff. Arriving late due to a delayed flight, I remarked that this is not how we intended to spend our anniversary. The front desk manager sent up a lovely bottle of wine! The rooms are clean and comfortable though at times they show their age. The view and the bathrobes are great. Delicious coffee served in the morning, and strollers were available for us to borrow. We didn't realize that Tenderloin is not a desirable neighborhood, but we didn't have any trouble at all.

I have to say I am highly disappointed in staying at the Serrano Hotel. The rooms are very small but on the lighter aspect of things its very historic if your looking for something that has a 1920's era feel to it. The room we had cost around 300 dollars do I think it was worth that price? NO! I spent 2 hours driving around the hotel looking for parking because each light you get stranded at for 20 minutes and by the time you cant find anything your forced to park next door. Even though it stated 31 dollars if your a hotel guest I was charged 39 dollars. I had to give up my keys therefore if you need to go back to your car for a late night drive or you have some food or supplies you cannot access it. What if there is an earthquake or disaster how do you get your keys to get out of this place? You cant instead you stay and die all over the Serrano trying to make a quick buck because they know there is nowhere for you to park therefore your trapped having to utilize the garage next door therefore its not very accommodating nor convenient to stay here period. By the time I finally handed my keys over to park the cocktail party where they offer free drinks to the guest ended and I just missed it. When I looked out the window to my room on the third floor I could literally reach across touch the next building there was no view just a jacked up broken window and everything within the room was poorly kept for example the liquor cabinet was damaged among a few other things. The lobby was nice but in the morning they were out of coffee and to make matters worst a pipe burst so we were not able to take showers in the morning. The lady gave us a 20 dollar discount taking off the reservation fee however by no means is this place a reservation yet they try to claim they are yet no amenities are available. They have a restaurant on the bottom floor its nice but I am not going to pay almost 20 dollars for a burger. One of the tenants working for the Serrano said to give it a try told me its bar food and yes they have some but they also have dishes most folks have not heard of in there entire lives! I can only give this place two stars and that is for its history. When another big one hits forget it the Serrano will be a tomb trust me on this because this building just by walking around studying the walls and structure one can tell that it needs work. I am not complaining just merely stating a fact that you do not get enough bang for your buck and I think the hotel could do more for its patrons. The parking issue has got to be resolved or most people are going to get a hotel somewhere else on the bay without dealing with the hassle just as there needs to be more for the patrons if they are going to shell out such a high cost for the rooms here.

It was cheap and stayed for the last reservation. The front desk was very nice and there was a free coffee service in the morning. The rooms are also in Spanish style and are cool. It is a convenient place, just a short distance from the Hilton Hotel and close to the train station. Renewal, hotel name changes, more modern.

Top class hospitality from the executives. Their housekeeping service is great and fast. All the floors are well decorated with nice items. The clean environment inside and outside. Recommended for people who are finding a hotel for staying in this area.

Decent enough location, which is all one should expect from this place. A bed. The bathroom was terrible, as were doors, fixtures. The amenities overall were quite shabby. Staff also looked like they could be pulled off street, not having showered but still greeting you with a smile.

Location is great and room was very clean. Wi-fi good and room included a TV and mini bar. Bathroom clean and good. Optional room service- if you choose to not have it then you get 5$ off you bill at the restaurant downstairs which is good.

The area adjacent to the Serrano Hotel isn't the greatest, but they have more reasonably priced rooms compared to some of the other hotels in the area. My room was on the 15th floor and it seemed recently refreshed, but the building is not new by any means. I arrived early and inquired about early check-in and it was given to me based on availability. Service was pretty good overall. The Serrano would be a decent choice if you want to save a few bucks and stay in the Union Square area.

The Hotel, room and service was good. The location is both good and bad. Good as it s close to union square. Bad because the area is dirty and smelly. It s full of homeless people and doesn t feel all that safe walking around at night. They only have Valet parking which is around $58. Even the recommended cheap parking down the street was $35 for 24 hours. To be fair, the expensive parking and dirty streets seem to be more of a representation of San Fransisco and not so much the hotel.

Friendly service and decent rooms for a hotel that's almost 100 years old. The room was clean and amenities were good, especially for the price - it's hard to find a decent hotel for around $200 per night in The City.

The rooms are ok, but the location is not good. Did not feel safe walking around the hotel. Was also very disappointed with hotel staff for an incident that happened during my stay. A fight broke out in the middle of the night on my floor starting with our neighbors being very loud and clearly intoxicated. The front desk was there to pick up, but the incident did not get settled until close to 6 am. We made the first call to the front desk to complain about the noise at 1:30 am. We then asked the neighbors ourselves politely to quiet down, and then an hour later they got violent and started screaming and fighting up against our door. Needless to say, my husband and I did not get a wink of sleep and we heard people beating each other up in front of our door. We don t even know if anything was done by hotel staff every time we called. They would say we re sorry, we will send security but the noise and violence continued.
And lastly although the website says it is a smoke free establishment, our floor reaked of smoke.

Currently laying in bed as I submit the review! Great location first of all! But will tell you parking sucks as to be expected in a big city $39 overnight not too bad! Hotel Staff was super friendly greeted at the door by a very friendly doorman, front desk ladies were on point, we got escorted up to our room and a quick tour by the bellman who turned all our lights on and made sure we were good to go before leaving the room. We stayed in a 1King bed suite had a living area with a sofa pull out bed a tv in living area and another separate in bedroom area, THE BATHROOM is amazing!!!!!! The shower is to die for there are 3 large wall mounted shower heads including one in the ceiling, 1 additional detachable shower head and 4 wall jets talk about ON Point!!! The room also has a built in speaker sound system loved that! The decor is a little dated but goes with the antique look Frisco has! Walking distance to Union Square, plenty of dining both restaurants and fast food, will definitely come again!!

The hotel itself was nice and charming but didn t appreciate two calls past midnight waking us up. The front desk said someone called to be transferred to our room but we didn t tell anyone our room number....

Overall a good experience. A bit of a mix of older worn furnishings and carpet with a more recent and better kept bathroom. A bit of noise from the street but not too bad given the busy location. One of the elevators was broken during my stay so service was a bit spotty, the stairs were faster, even up on the 5th floor. General cleanliness and comfort were good and the central location is great. Wi-Fi was adequate and there were plenty of power outlets.

We stayed at the Serrano Hotel during our trip to SF. My fiance and I brought our dog with us to enjoy our anniversary weekend together. The hotel was accommodating for our are little animal and we appreciated it. The hotel is very close to everything you need to make for a great weekend stay in SF. Also the bathrooms at the Serrano Hotel our cleaned/maintained well. There is also a Walgreen across the street which makes it nice to stock up your fridge.
