Sepia is a nice West Loop alternative to the long wait times on Randolph. The food, ambiance and prices make this a nice date spot or business dinner. I'm also a fan of their cocktails which are made with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Fantastic lunch. The food is great, and the service is 5 star. There is a wide selection of food. I opted for a special which was a Thai sausage sandwich, it was very good. There is a crazy lunch rush, but it clears quickly.

My wife and I enjoyed ourselves at this restaurant, due primarily to the easygoing atmosphere, great service, and of course, great tasting food worthy of its Michelin star. It's easy to see why this is one of Mrs. Obama's favorite spots.

Excellent food and service. The Rohan duck and the Cod were both amazing. So was the scallops appetizer and the pavlova dessert. We wanted to try one Michelin star restaurant during this visit. So glad we picked Sepia.

Fantastic dining experience. Not only did I enjoy the food but also the rustic decor. The extremely friendly and accommodating staff as well as the amazing food made my evening in Chicago a night to remember. I will definitely be back!

This was a great pick for a special occasion. The food was to die for and the presentation was really simple but classy and tasted like heaven. It is just another reminder that great food does not have to come in oversized portions. I will be back here to enjoy their group menu for sure. One of the best birthday dinner experience in a long time.

Dining atmosphere: I could barely hear my partner and tables were too close to eachother.
Drinks: Good recommendations from our server. Many options.
Appetizer/Entree: The flavors were acceptable but somehow off balance in an attempt to serve something 'out there.' This just could have been the palette of the current season on their seasonal menu.
Dessert: Best part of the meal. The pastry chef presented something worthy of a Michelin star.
Price: I have tasted better meals, at non Michelin restaurants within the same price range. It was not worth the money. The atmosphere was too noisy for the price.

Great meal overall, but would call out the Falafel entree as truly amazing. We added it to our tasting menu, since we had never thought of Falafel being a fancy option and we're curious to see what you could do with it. We were not disappointed and it was probably the highlight of an overall fantastic meal. Great spot, great seasonal menu and great wine and cocktail menu.

The food was good. The service was terrible. We were there for a business lunch. It took us over 2 hours to finish the meal. We has to ask the bus boy if we could order starters 12 min after we were seated s the waiter had not arrived. The restaurant was cleared out before we got our mains. There was a good 5 min between the food arriving at the table for 5 of us and when the food arrived for the 6th person. We literally had to go to the front desk to ask for dessert menus. When they arrived, we were told we could not order a dessert of the price fix menu! One person at our table had ordered the dessert as part of the price fix and another person wanted a slice too. We were told they do not do that. That about sent us off but we had another 20 min to discuss the service while we waited for the desserts to arrive.

This was my first time at a restaurant with a Michillen Star. Expectations were high and they exceeded them all. The food was excellent, presentation was also excellent. The staff was also exemplary. If I would ding them for anything is that the time between the 1st and 2nd course felt long. Perhaps, that is on me for not having proper expectations.

The food was amazing! As a vegetarian, I am always wary of going to upscale restaurants. But the pappardelle with mushrooms was incredibly delicious; my date thought it was even better than the duck he got. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. This experience was worth the price!

A concise menu of locally sourced foods, paired with a well curated wine list. What used to be a challenging acoustic environment has been much improved and the friendliness of the staff has been consistent over the ten+ years it's been here.

Their happy hour is one of the best for the price! $7 drinks and small bites is great! We ate dinner there the day after valentines day though and it was definitely not up to par. Everything was good enough but the duck was tasteless and chewy. Hopefully the dinner was just a hangover from valentine's day before

Sepia had a vintage feel with the whole rustic decor and paper menu. We got the burger which was excellent and the duck fat fries. Too much for lunch but probably 1.5 person's worth. Waitress was very friendly and funny. Menu changes everyday and they re-print the menu on cool paper

Delicious dinner! Great service! The falafel dish was a great vegetarian option. I also got roasted radish side dish which was absolutely delicious. The main dishes are not very large, so you will definitely want to have an appetizer or side of veggies as well.

This was an amazing place to go eat. The food was great and the prices where just exquisite. This is the best mishlen star restaurant that won't break the bank in Chicago. Just a tip of the advice. They charge $5 for each club soda. I ended up paying $15 total for club soda. But this is a must go in Chicago.

Loved it. Definitely my kind of culinary experience, the 4 courses menu with limited choices allow for enough customisation without just letting you drawn in options. Perfect.
The food was excellent and nicely presented.
The Sommelier was knowledgeable and offer good advice. We will be back.

I've been wanting to try this place for months, but that's because reservations is about a two month wait.

The bone marrow is a must. I don't come here often so I never remember what I ordered until I look at my last photos. For some reason I am always getting the agnolotti. It always sounds so good. And for some reason it doesn't taste the same when I first had it. It doesn't taste bad just different. Even the color of the meal looks different also.

Fantastic experience dining with 6 coworkers. It s almost easy to miss this place, as the signage outside doesn t immediately catch your attention, but it was a welcoming atmosphere as we were greeted just inside. We tried a little of everything the menu had to offer and were impressed with all of it. The grilled sturgeon was fantastic, and sea scallops as one if the appetizers were perhaps the best we had ever tried. Would definitely recommend, and I m sure I ll be back during future visits to Chicago.

This restaurant is a little bit too fancy for my tastes. The food is expensive and the staff is in your face intrusive nice like at most high-end restaurants. Food comes in small portions and are presented very ornately.

Great place to grab some amazing dinner, cheese was on point, charcuterie was spot-on as well. I had the rabbit, excellent. And the mascarpone cheesecake was the perfect amount of savory and sweet. Highly recommend getting reservations ahead of time which we did.

Wow, what a total disappointment. I think the other reviews here must have never been to a true Michelin Star restaurant. The service was not just not good, it was bad. The food, yeah okay, but seriously, at a $100 a head for a four course tasting menue it should have been much better. Don't waste your one night in Chicago like I did...I should have gone for a pizza and it would have been much, much better.

Great food. Wine list is incredibly interesting with off the beaten path wines. Best part - the sommelier doesnt hide somewhere and let you fumble through the list. Jenny came over and picked the perfect wine for us. She's great. Ask for her!

Very happy with the experience here overall. I thoroughly enjoyed drinking their Old Fashioned, it was easily in the top 5 old fashions I drank in all of 2017. The tasting menu was one of the better ones I've had around Chicago, too. You can't really go wrong here. Will come back.

I'd give four stars if this were a comparison between 1-star Michelin restaurants only, but in the world of Google we are comparing Sepia on the same scale as we are comparing Burger King - and that's just not fair to a place of such high craftsmanship. I really enjoyed the reasonably priced tasting menu, I liked how the flavors played together - I would have expected 6 instead of 5 courses (excl. amouse bouches). But who am I to judge? The pappardelle were a highlight to me. The wagyu tri tip more of a marketing thing (it's a pity the chef has to measure against inspectors who expect fancy ingredients over flavor). Why not offer duck, quail, iberico or other powerful flavors instead? Cheaper for the restaurant and better for the tasters - but worse for the pretentious folks who need that Wagyu.

This place was amazing. The host and my server Kevin were spectacular. The food was phenomenal and had me feeling like Remy in Ratatouille when he puts the food in his mouth and visualizes the taste in sounds and colors. Food shouldn't just be eaten it should be an experience and Sepia did a magnificent job in providing it.

My boyfriend took me here for a special birthday dinner and we arrived shortly before 8, were seated immediately and ordered our food shortly after. We didn't receive our appetizers until 8:40, and then waited another 45 minutes before we got out entrees. We spent a total of 2.5 hours there and left hungry. By the time we got our entrees I was starving and couldn't even enjoy the food because I just wanted to scarf it down quickly. When I was asked by the manager about how everything was I mentioned how long the food had taken and the manager did not convey any understanding or apology and neither did our waiter. I did notice that they gave me a complimentary extra pour of wine, but that gesture really meant nothing to me because it lacked acknowledgement of why they were giving that to me. Overall the food was good, but nothing that deserved a Michelin Star and I will not be going back or recommending this place.

Good Overall. We went here for dinner during restaurant week. My favorite dishes were the Coffee Cured Beef and the Papardelle. My least favorite was the Veal, which tasted good, but was extremely rubbery and challenging to eat. I wouldn't mind coming back to try some more!

I picked Sepia based on customer reviews as I wanted to find a great spot to celebrate my friends Birthday. I had high expectations being a Michelin star restaurant but needless to say it was a flop. Ambiance was average at best nothing out of ordinary the food it self was just okay. We opted for the tasting menu thinking that would be the best way to try everything however there was nothing that wowed me. For the price we've been better going to Boka or Maple & Ash where you can always expect delicious food. Service was slow and not attentive. It was a one and done for me.

We order 5 items which came with a complimentary pallet cleanser (don t do it) and dessert. I can t say anything was delicious, in fact the duck was particularly awful with an after taste. The scallops and rabbit pasta was good - but I wouldn t go back for the price or recommend this restaurant.

Always something interesting, be it something entirely new to me, or something otherwise mundane done amazingly. Was just there for restaurant week 2020. If you are going, Milk-braised pork collar isnhighly recommended. The polenta in that dish is simply amazing.

I have been to Sepia several times. "In the beginning" it was great experience. Fantastic food served by awesome folks. The last few visits delivered excellent food but the service so lack luster a robot would have been preferred over our uninterested, uninvolved waiter who was able to offer no description of the dishes, how they are prepared or make recommendations when asked. I think last week was my last visit regardless of their Michelin Star.

This is a old school really dark place. I personally really liked this but I can see why some people would prefer something different. The food was really tasty and service was very helpful/friendly.

Really wanted to give this restaurant 5
The food was good, but nothing blew my mind.
Service was 4 stars. I had some questions about the origin of the fish and did not find out if it was wild or farmed. Sturgeon was nicely flavored, but a little dry.
Wine pairing was 5 very good selection
The details of the food could have been a little bit more professional, Michelin like.
It was a nice 2 hours experience in which I tasted numerous types of different food.

It's definitely a trendy place so if that's your scene this will bode well. Decor is nice and lighting sets the stage for a relaxing lunch or dinner.

I are lunch and had the lamb bigger medium rare. The bigger was seasoned well and cookies as expected. It was topped with eggplant and Gorgonzola, tasty but rich. Out came with a side of fries as well for 15.00, about what could be expected.

The wait staff was nice and friendly and service was adequate or to be more specific at least what one should routinely expect from good service.

Went for lunch last Thursday with my husband. I was overall disappointed. We picked the fixed price menu.
I asked our waiter if they was any way I could switch the dessert for something else like cheese for example as I'm not sweets. He didn't even bother to try or anything and said no.
Appetizer was ok, I would suggest nice country bread with the mousse instead of the fried tiny toasts. It is nice to have that much of mousse, but you should give enough of bread to go with it.
I picked the short ribs. My bad I didn't read the details... When the plate arrived, I figured this was actually pasta with some short ribs sauce.
I switched plate with my husband who got fish. Our waiter stopped by, didn't noticed the switch... We didn't complained about anything but we should have.
Food was good but our waiter was totally careless.

Great experience from the warm greeting when we entered to the mixologist and all thru dinner. Staff was very attentive and courteous. Thanks to our local wine expert (one of our guests), we had a wonderful Sojourn Pinot Noir along with the Skate Wing, Wagu bavette, Venison and Arctic Char, all delicious.

Will be back again soon!
