The sashimi is pretty good, the master is Japanese, and it s pretty good~ Udon noodles are delicious, but the amount is not big, one person may not be enough.
I have had the pleasure of eating lunch at Kiku several times and now the pleasure of having dinner. I can tell you the sushi was extremely fresh and the service and staff attentive. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Pittsburgh ...
Loved the ginger dressing on the salad. my hubby loved the seaweed salad. sushi was excellent. a lil pricey
Food was amazing. Prices were good and service was great. Had a very enjoyable time. It also has a very authentic look to the place. Liked it a lot
It was delicious. Staffs were very nice. But it was quite expensive.
I have been to Japan 3 times and I lived in California for 2 years, so I've had a good amount of really good Japanese food. With that said, I wasn't expecting much of a Japanese restaurant in Pittsburgh, but I got surprised here. All the food was really good and authentic Japanese, they even have natto on the menu and they make the vinegar and soy sauce that they use. I will be back :D
Presentation was amazing, food was phenomenal. I got the steak teriyaki and shrimp tempura sushi. I will warn that this place is very authentic. This is not an Americanized establishment.
Great quality and service. It was very quiet on the weekend lunch that I went to it. It might be busy on week day lunches based on location.
Didn't see the Sushi chef wash his hands once after touching raw and cooked food. Tasted good but will not return.
Good sushi and miso soup at a reasonable price, plastic leaves as decoration on the sushi is unnecessary. Considerably better quality than elsewhere in Pittsburgh. Excellent service. Amazing deserts. Lighting is a bit cold due to poor choice of LED spectrum (bluish daylight with blue sky 5k Kelvin instead of softer tones). But the interior decoration teleports one right to Japan regardless. Overall really good experience.
The sushi was very good. I generally go with nigiri and did so here. The sticky rice was impressive and something about the sushi had a special taste. I'm not even sure anything else was added but there was definitely some sort of zest taste (lemon?) that made the food more enjoyable.
One of the most famous and popular Japanese restaurants in Pittsburgh. I often visit this restaurant to welcome my Japanese guests, and they always satisfied saying "It's as if we were in Japan". All dishes are perfect as authentic Japanese cuisine. You can also enjoy alcoholic beverages, including Japanese popular beer and sake. The prices are fairly reasonable. This is one of my most favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh.
My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary dinner. I called in advance for reservation and let them know we were ordering 2 omakase meals, 1 being a sushi omakase, 1 being a normal dinner omakase. On their website it stated they wanted a heads up, so I called in a week in advance.
When we arrived, they didn't really reserve any tables despite our reservation, and when seated, we were ignored being in the corner for a while before finally ordering, which makes little sense since we already called in and let them know our order. My $60 sushi omakase that was MORE EXPENSIVE than my boyfriend's provided me literally one normal plate of sushi. That's it. I did not receive appetizer or dessert, while I watched my boyfriend receive a full 5 course meal as I sat next to him awkwardly for most of the meal, feeling ripped off. The waiter was also apprehensive when I asked about dessert, assuming I would at least have that included with my omakase. Overall it was a really sour and disappointing experience, and I would not recommend this to anyone who loves sushi. Come here for a cooked meal, sure. But sushi? Go elsewhere.
I can not understand why this restaurant has 4 stars! The place is awful, dated, smells horrible, and the food is terrible! I ordered a temaki, tuna spyce and salmon avocado rolls, and a salmon sushi. It was not fresh, rice looked and tasted old. I got sick after eating that food...my husband too. Expensive and terrible!
Great food, nice clean atmosphere, friendly staff and our waiter Justin is always going above and beyond. We always bring our out of town friends to Kiku and they love it also.
Fell apart, tiny portions of fish, everything tastes watered down.
Very good food, you can definitely taste that everything is fresh. However the reason for three stats is the wait staff was very nice, but very slow. There was only 6 tables total with 2 waitresses and 1 waiter. We ran out of water and didn't get a refill until they gathered our plates. Our check showed up ten minutes after our plates got picked up and requested the check.
My first time to this restaurant, I just hope it was just a bad day for this place. Will write a follow up if I return.
Due to covid their current seating limit is 50 people. That being said if you wish to go for any occasion it's best to get a reservation. Walk in seating is available but there will more than likely be a wait. The evening dining there was great and service was good but food did take a little long than expected to come out. Tempura was ok lacking some salt, their sushi and nigiri were excellent. Overall experience I would give it a 3.5 out of 5.
A Japanese restaurant run by a Japanese restaurant located on Station Square near downtown. There is an authentic atmosphere where you can enjoy sushi and tempura. I've never had a full wait, but it seems to be popular with local people, and I can see many people waiting just before the store opens. Reservations for groups are also accepted, so you can use it with peace of mind even at important meetings. Above all, the inside of the restaurant is very calm, so it is a useful restaurant when superiors and parents come to Pittsburgh.
Everything tasted amazing, everything arrived very quickly, and the atmosphere was amazing! Would definetely go again!
Excellent restaurant with authentic Japanese cusisine. Good ambience, nice selection of alchohol drinks, friendly and helpful staff, decent bar table with high seats. Definitely try out sushi and alacarte options available. My favorite was the fried shrimp tempura. All others were good too, no complaints at all. Would recommend this place to others and visit here again. 5 star.
There was a Japanese chef and when I visited there was even a deep-fried firefly squid.
Food was great. Sushi was fresh. The beef and scallions was delicious!
Amazing service and very good sushi! My boyfriend and I recently dined here for our one year anniversary and I cannot express what a phenomenal choice it was, however it was a tad difficult to find. We were immediately seated and our orders taken. We were treated fantastically through our stay. Not to mention, they have the freshest, best tasting fish around! This is the only place I have ever been to that has actually edible (and delicious!) sea urchin sashimi. We both are beyond satisfied and plan on returning asap! I would recommend this restaurant to people who enjoy high quality and quiet dining.
Outstanding sushi- one of the top three sushi restaurants where I ve eaten (the others were in Atlanta and Washington DC). The fish was fresh and high quality, the service was friendly and fast, plus they make their own soy sauce in-house. Highly recommend this place.
Great food except for sushi. Wasabi is bad. Might be a bit overprice, but generally enjoyable and authentic Japanese food.
Nice little hidden gem of a sushi place. Its traditional Japanese sushi though, so be prepared to order a lot. This isn't American sized portions. Still, absolutely delicious. I would sit a the sushi bar though when I go back. Being at the table really added nothing to my experience.
Best sushi ive ever had. Would recommend sitting at the bar and getting nigiri. Can get a bit pricey but well worth it
Great sushi. Authentic atmosphere. A little hard to find the first time but worth it!
Top notch sushi experience. I've eaten in sushi restaurants outside the fish markets of Kyoto and this experience rivals that. Wholeheartedly recommend.
As close to authentic as you can get in the Pittsburgh. The interior makes me feel like I'm back in Japan, food is likewise. A must try for sushi lovers and tradition cuisine lovers
Googled it before plan the trip. We arrived here and realized the restaurant and the mall was closed. Wish kiku could update the open hour time correctly...
for people wants to go, they won t open till 12/1/2020
Good food and prompt service. The restaurant is dated and the atmosphere is a little stale. Would return for a few sushi rolls though.
Probably some of the best Japanese food in the city. It's never been particularly crowded when I've been here. It's good for moderately large groups.
One of my go-to Japanese restaurants in town where I can always find dishes to my taste. It serves large plate that would be good for groups, all kinds of entries and sushi of various ingredients by pieces. Tables are always available in the noon, but seems limited for dinner.
I looked up online for some good suhi, i was craving it rather.
I saw Kiku was supposed to be good, i ordered a spicy tuna roll and salmon roll. It was the worst I had ever eaten ( and I have eaten sushi from a lot of places).
The meat was BLACK. I tried one piece and almost threw up. I spent 20 bucks on it and throw the ENTIRE thing out.
I am never going back there.
I travel around the world and I can say for sure they have the best fried oysters in the world. Great service and the sushi is delicious. 5 Stars!
Absolutely delicious food! Authentic atmosphere... inside the shopping center, so you can't see it from the street.
This was the worst tasting sushi I ever had in my life the miso soup was salty threw it away the chicken was dry ate 2 pieces only ,had 2 bites of 2 sushi rolls and threw away all the sushi it was like grocery store or gas station sushi Taco Bell is a step up from this place Run AWAY QUICK....any positive reviews are from extremely drunk people or the staff & friends only Cause this place REALLY Sucked... $35 and I'm still hungry
Excellent sushi, miso, beef maki, and gyoza. Great service.
The food, service, and ambiance were all AMAZING! Highly reccommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and tasty sushi experience.
To notch Japanese food. The owner cooks his heart out and it shows. One of our all time favorite places to go.
My favorite for many years. Always the best quality sushi.
Years ago Kiku used to offer a once a month deal:. All the sushi and temporary you could eat for $25 on the third Thursday of the month. It was excellent! Do they still offer this once a month special!
Had the sashimi dinner tonight, can't say it was the best sushi I have ever had. It would help if the ambience and decor wasn't so old and the table didn't feel as if I was dining at IHOP. Service was a little slow, for not being overally busy. No view, dark inside, and I found it super pricey for what it was. Will not go back.
Got take out. Ordered online. Sushi and sashimi were very good, very fresh. Was happy to find a decent amount of wasabi with each dish (lots of restaurants skimp on that). Take out was well organized, waiting at the door when I walked in.
Overall a good experience, they have taken good precautions and the seating is limited
Our server was really sweet and food came in fast.
The ambience was also good.
Love this place, they make their own soy sauce. The green tea ice cream is amazing
It is a Japanese house to frequent. In Pittsburgh you can see the closest food to traditional Japanese food. Okakase is okay and other a la carte dishes are also good. The chef and the server are also very kind.
Food very fresh, sushi was delicious! The only problem is that i HATE cucumber, and the menu online and in the restaurant said that certain rolls contain cucumber, and some don t. i ordered the shady side roll and the salmon avocado roll. they didn t contain cucumber on the menu, yet it was brought out with cucumber. otherwise, everything was great.
Best Sushi in Pittsburgh. Come here with Bank of Tokyo colleagues. Great service. Good atmosphere.
It was delicious as usual. I was with a child, but the clerk was kind.
Satisfying service and aesthetic but a little outdated. The overall quality of the food was parallel to my grandparents diner out in hicktown. My udon was served room temperature and I received a single handroll for $6!
The warm hand towels were nice though.
Got food poisoning from their sushi, throwing up all the next day, and I eat sushi all the time. Also my meal was like 50 bucks just for me
Fantastic sushi and even better server.
I was in Pittsburgh traveling for work and decided to try out Kiku for dinner and could not have been more impressed. The food was truly outstanding, and I really appreciated the recommendations from my server. You can tell that they take great pride in the quality of their work. I strongly recommend giving Kiku a try.
The ambience was quiet and I came on a Sunday afternoon. The waiter was nice as well as the chef. I order one Kiku California roll, 2 Unagi pieces and uni. The roll and unagi were fine. Good but nothing that I would write home about. However the uni has definitely gone bad. The strong iodine taste that comes with bad uni was there. It was awful and hard to choke down. I thought wouldn t be able to hold it down. I originally was going to continue to order more pieces because other reviews had highly recommended this place. However after that bad piece which was $6.75, I stopped. The location of this restaurant is also a bit odd and difficult to find. I will not return and I would recommend finding a different location for sushi.
Excellent Japanese dinner style restaurant. Great food and better sushi.
I was out travelling for work and was craving sushi. I dont know what the actual sushi scene is in Pittsburgh, but on google and yelp it looked bleak. I took a chance on Kiku, and I wasnt disappointed. Located inside a high rise type building, and on the first floor, Kiku is pretty easy to find. parking IS NOT free, but it is cheap. And the parking structure is very close.
The food was excellent. Great fish, fish selection, and great sushi chef! I didnt try anything from the kitchen l, but they c asa re as much of the back of the house as they do the front, then I expect greatness from there too. All the staff was super friendly and amazing to . Always attentive as well.
If you're in the area, I highly suggest this place.
Until next time...
Lunch. Tuesday. SARS COV 2. It was not busy. We (mom, dad, son, son) ordered 5 sushi rolls and a bowl of soup. 2 beers (the 22 oz Kirin is a bargain at 7.5), glass of Chardonnay, and an iced tea. Service was excellent. Food was delicious, an appropriate end of the summer and send off to college. I hope this place survives the PLANdemic. Eat here, soon.
Only had for delivery a few times but food was always good. Prices were a little high for amount that you got. Delivery was always late, but that was not they fault we used door dash.
Not an interesting variety of sushi rolls. Spicy tuna roll was fine. Wafu ryouri was good. Enjoyed age dashi dofu, karaage, and kushi katsu. Katsu chicken was impressively soft and tender while crispy on outside.
A really cozy spot. All of my experiences here were good despite some of the more disturbing one-star reviews. I might think twice next time but anytime I ve gone I have received fresh and beautiful cuts of fish.
Went there because of online recommendations. It is a traditional style restaurant: peaceful Japanese music, bamboo decor...The chef was from Kyoto, Japan. He had been making sushi for 20+ years. Very skillful and nice to talk to. All the sushi are made and presented in the authentic way. Nagiri sushi are very fresh and great, especially for red snapper and orange clam.
This is the most authentic Japanese restaurant I have ever been to in the United States, and I m originally from New York. I know this because I have been to Japan. Kiku bears a STRIKING resemblance to the ambiance, flavor and feel of a true Japanese dining experience. Once you ve eaten the sushi at Kiku, you will have a difficult time eating the overly Americanized version that you ll find anywhere else in town. Absolutely love this place. Incredible waiter too who cares deeply about the food and is unbelievably knowledgeable able professional. Eat here.
We've been coming to Kiku since we moved to Pittsburgh over 20 years ago. The food and service is consistently good and the atmosphere is pleasant. I'm somewhat biased by nostalgia, but I definitely recommend it.
This is one of the few places in Pittsburgh to eat some traditional Japanese food other than sushi and sashimi. A++!
Kiku, is my favorite restaurant and sushi bar in Pittsburgh. I have been eating Sushi most of my life starting at about 7 years old. I'm 27 currently. Always great food and service at Kiku.
Always great service and great food. Sushi is fresh and best atmosphere. My family enjoys coming there for birthday celebrations or after and before sporting events. Went there after 1/2 time of the Steeler game and we were the last customers to leave. Our Favorite Japanese Restaurant in Pittsburgh.
Great Japanese food, that satisfied our Japanese friend
This restaurant is a great secret in station square. Fantastic sushi and very good chicken and steak. Kids loved it as well.
Hands down the best sushi in Pittsburgh. And their Miso soup was amazing. Waitstaff was great!
