YURT YURT YURT!!!

YURT YURT YURT!!!

Was initially unsure about staying in a yurt for fear of being cold in the near freezing temps during our stay, actually woke up hot in the morning due to the radiating heat from the floor! The yurt was the perfect cozy atmosphere I was looking for to celebrate my first anniversary with my wife, even had a bottle of wine waiting for us upon arrival! Dinner at the lodge restaurant was amazing; great food and service all around, they even reopened the bar for us after our dinner. Rise Up coffee is stocked and ready to go in the room for you, some of my favorite coffee as its roasted in my hometown.

Will be looking forward to returning in slightly warmer weather to spend more time there and explore the miles of hiking trails that are located right on the property.

Thanks Again SRL!!

This place is pure Paradise! We stayed in cabin #2 known as the Cabin of Corks. You'll just have to stay there to figure out why! Luxury details and a fantastic restaurant with beautiful views if it's warm enough to sit outside. The only thing missing from this Eco Resort Hideaway are hot tubs! Not cheap but worth every penny.

I am cozy by the fire drinking coffee as I watch the snow fall. My husband and I stayed up to midnight playing board games after an exceptional dinner yesterday. The staff is wonderful here as well allowing our stay to be relaxing.

Savage River Lodge is the perfect weekend getaway, especially during coronavirus! Excellent accommodations, service, and food and drinks! Expertly embodies the definition of glamping . The husband and I came to celebrate our anniversary by hiking and watching the neowise comet and were never disappointed in a single thing. Will recommend to all our friends!

It's been a few years since our last visit. I remember Savage River Lodge as being a top tier resort. This visit while nice and relaxing, showed signs of slippage. From basic maintenance issues such as loose steps on a stairway to main lodge as well as cabin #9. Screens with holes and unsecured, carpeting with nails uncovered. In general the overall appearance of the lodge and our cabin seemed in need of much TLC.
Our dinner was worth the trip, my wife ordered the pheasant, and I had the artic char. Very well prepared, and a nice wine selection.
The price did not match the value for over night accommodations.

Absolutely a terrible experience. Have been there several times before and had wonderful experiences BUT this was not. Shae, Molly and Amber did their best without resources. Party of six, all have been there serveral times. Everything went wrong. Drinks had to be returned, two and half hours no food, or even bread! Chicken piccata came out as a half a roasted chicken! Found out bartender and chef not working that night!! Only four other customers there that night.

Emily thanks for your reply but all your statements are not correct. We did not search cocktails online before we came. Shae and Molly were looking up drinks online to try and make them. So no they might not be prepared to tend bar. Our reservation was at 5:30 and we were seated well before 8pm! Trying to get drinks right and drink them probably took an hour or so. Not sure what is your receipe for making chicken piccata but it is never a half of roasted chicken! If the restaurant can't provide the same level of service and resources everyday that's a problem from a customers perspective. Sorry but your response seemed defensive! All six party members will have to really think about returning, which is unfortunate since we've all been there several times.

We just returned from our third visit to Savage River Lodge. As always, we enjoyed the quietness and enveloping warmth of SRL and, as we were leaving, booked two future stays. My son and I just love it here!

We went for our anniversary and they really made sure we had a wonderful time. Also love that they have so much Gf options!
Yurts are also super cozy!

Anniversary gift from our children. Lunch and Dinner at the Lodge was much more than expected. Delicious!! Staff was super friendly. Cabin and Lodge well appointed and comfortable. Great experience. Plenty of trails for hikers and pets at this pet friendly destination.

I thought the food and service was good. We had a big group so they put us upstairs in our own private room which was very nice. We went out on the deck and watched the feeding of the deer. The only negative was the road coming into the restaurant. It is unpaved and has several pot holes.

I'm not sure where to start, but here it goes. We arrived at dusk and the road coming in is difficult to navigate with lots of potholes. It forces you to want to stay in your cabin and not venture out. Cabin wise, it was welcoming and cozy. We appreciate the fact that you can have dogs and the morning muffins and dog biscuits were a nice touch. The things that would have made it better would be to have a microwave and a tv or radio. The dustiness on the walls and on the wall hangings was slightly off-putting. Restaurant wise, I did not appreciate the multiple phone calls asking to reserve a table. I think the email before hand is enough. Once we arrived we made a reservation for dinner. We ordered 3 appetizers that were not what we expected and quite a let down actually, so we then decided to try the meatloaf which after waiting a half hour, came out cold. Overall, this place has a ton of potential. I don't mind paying the prices I did but it's the little things that matter that they need some help on.

What a beautiful location - stayed in a yert, which was well-appointed and very comfortable. As several other reviewers have mentioned, the road in was riddled with potholes so once you arrive at the destination, it's tough to make the case to leave. The yerts are clustered very close together, and there is no sound proofing so you can hear everything that is happening in the neighboring lodging.

As numerous other reviews have also mentioned, the food experience was more than disappointing. Considering that your only option, without a kitchen or grills/cooking devices available in or near the yerts, is to dine at the restaurant, I would certainly not return. My friend and I were looking forward to a premium dining experience, only to be disappointed by the driest bison burger I have ever eaten and a "lobster flat bread" that I would highly recommend avoiding. We also took part in a "wine in the woods" tour where one red and one white wine option was served at each of the three stops in plastic cups, with a poorly matched appetizer. The wines were extremely fruit-forward and we had to pass on a number of them with the limited options at hand. When we reluctantly returned to the restaurant for a dinner we had initially looked forward to, we decided to play it safe and stick with the chicken piccata and meatloaf. The piccata, as another reviewer specifically mentioned, was a half roasted chicken with little bits of what I presume were vegetable a potato- it was difficult to distinguish between the two. My friend's meatloaf came out with a thick, burned crust and was inedible. With just one bite we sent the meals back, and were rewarded with 50% off the already (IMHO) overpriced entrees.

After returning to our yert with empty stomachs, we were eager to check out in the morning and find the nearest dining option. Ironically enough, it seems the cafe we decided to visit was owned by the Savage River Lodge, and the dining experience there was quite enjoyable. I'm not sure where the disconnect was, but it would be lovely if they could bring the experience from the Cornucopia Cafe to the restaurant on their grounds.

Generally I would say we certainly didn't feel welcome, and when we shared the disappointment in our experience there was very little interest in learning what happened or trying to make up for it. We made the most of my birthday weekend, but unfortunately would not return or recommend to others.

High end service in a rustic beautiful setting. Check out the Yurts! Great staff! Nobody works harder than the owners and their mngr Emily. Cross country sking, fishing, hiking, and more. What a cool place with great food in a outstanding setting. Just the road in is a adventure.

My husband and I just spent a couple days here, celebrating our anniversary. It was impossible not to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. We stayed in a yurt and it was like nothing we had experienced before. It was spacious, luxurious, and had everything you needed. It was a real treat to stay here and I hope we can return again soon. If you go, grab a bite at the Cornucopia Cafe, about 25 minutes away. They have great food at reasonable prices.

I love this place SO much! The yurts are incredibly beautiful and luxurious and the cabins are so cozy! I've stayed in both and personally prefer the cabins, specifically the cabins with porches facing the woods. They're dog friendly, too, which is fantastic! Breakfast is delivered to your door in the morning. Once finished, I highly recommend hiking the trails! They're gorgeous!

Very peaceful and quite, the cabins are rustic and haven't been updated in many years. The restaurant in site is delicious. If you want a quite get away in the beautiful mountains then this is the place to come.

Staff and owners were wonderful. Our luggage had to be delivered by the airlines at 3am, the owner drove all the way down to the main road to get them for us. We ate in the dining room twice and were very impressed with meals and service.

We recently visited for our ten year anniversary and our experience was excellent. The atmosphere was beautiful and serene. The accommodations were better than I expected. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. I can't recommend it enough.

I can't say enough good things about about my experiences at Savage River Lodge. My wife and I recently spend an anniversary get-away there. The service was great, they were able to accommodate my special requests without issue. The cabin was very charming and well kept. But the food, oh the food is the hidden treasure in my opinion. The Chef takes advantage of the local culinary wonders and serves up a great meal. I can't wait for our next trip to the lodge.

Tipped to Savage River Lodge by a friend who had stayed in a Yurt. Considering the restrictions levied on everyone by Covid, we looked for a way to safely spend some time away without risking any exposure to da rona. Our 3-day stay was 100% contactless and we were never in close proximity of any other guests.

What a great find in western MD. The November weather was perfect and the premier cabin we chose was more than enough room for my family of four.

I was curious as to why they asked what kind of car I have and quickly figured out why as soon as we turned off the main road on the way to the lodge. The road leading to the site is treacherous in good conditions; ten minutes to drive a mile or so.

Can t comment on the staff bc we didn t interact with anyone but our email communications was fine. The restaurant was closed during our stay but we stopped on the way for groceries to bring. That said, I wouldn t order the muffins and juice service again as we had plenty of options for breakfast.

Would (and will) stay here again.

My fiance and myself was invited to go to breakfast by a good friend and he suggested the Savage River Lodge. Seemed a bit out of the way for breakfast but we all enjoyed the ride. Upon arrival I was blown away by the atmosphere. Very rustic and serene. The smell of a wood fire was in the air and the lodge was beautiful. The layout was great with a dual sided fireplace and loft complete with a small library. The restaurant was quaint with friendly staff and the coffee was quite good. Menu was simple and to the point. The omelete was tasty and bacon was excellent with a hint of applewood. My fiance had the bison burger and was pleased with it as well. I cant wait to take my family there to spend a night or two in a cabin. If you are looking for a nice family retreat for a few days or a romantic get away, I believe this place will be hard to beat. The sheer beauty was amazing to us. Cant wait to visit again.

We went on a Monday night. Only 6 tables the entire evening. We had excellent service. We shared among ourselves 2 bottles of wine and 6 different appetizers. All were tasteful and hot. Loved the mussels and fried seafood platter. Humming birds were plenty abound. Awesome evening.

This is such a special place! Everything is so nicely done, from the flashlights on the key fobs to the picnic basket of breakfast goodies delivered to the door in the morning. Food is absolutely incredible too! We can't wait to come back!

This place is absolutely disgusting. I ve been twice in 6 months and both times got extremely sick. I m not sure if they are using expired product or what but i have never gotten so sick off of food, and from the same place. I also saw an employee get screamed at for forgetting someone s drink. I will never return and will be telling everyone I know.

Can't say enough nice things about this place. We had a wonderful time. Cabins were spacious, warm, and rustic but plenty of modern conveniences. Plenty of trails to hike (our dog loved them), and a few quaint little towns are close by (20 min drive). (Note: There is no TV and very little signal for internet in the cabins. You won't care. We didn't come here to watch TV but to unplug and relax). Muffins/OJ brought to our cabin each morning were a nice surprise (you can also order breakfast to your cabin). The restaurant is amazing. We were there 3 nights and had lunch and dinner two days. Service, food, drinks were outstanding. I will say that we did get snow/ice during our stay. The morning of our departure, the road out was quite slick, but Mike put down gravel all the way to the main road. Our little Honda Fit did just fine. Anymore snow though and I think a four wheel drive car (with some weight on all tires) would be a very good idea. We can't wait to come back!

Despite the beautiful setting, our Savage River Lodge experience did not leave us eager to book again. First, DO NOT book a yurt through AirBnB. I reserved the Yurt, received a confirmation and was charged. Six days later I was emailed More

A Magical experience. We went for our 5 year wedding anniversary. The owners had a bottle of champagne waiting for us when we arrived. We stayed in a yurt and it was so luxurious. Lots of great hiking trails on the resort. Dinner at the lodge was delicious! Muffin delivery to your yurt in the morning was special for us. So relaxing and peaceful. There is no t.v. In the yurt and we took it a step further and decided to make it a no phone weekend. Best decision ever! We had to spend time and talk to each other :) We are usually campers instead of glampers but this was definitely worth the price tag. My only suggestion: someone at the front desk told me to dress up for dinner (my husband in khakis/ dress or dress pants for me) this did not end up being the case. We were a little more over dressed than most. It's definitely a more come as you are atmosphere. Jeans are fine. Check it out. So worth it.

Beautiful cabins, surrounded by so much breathtaking wildlife. The cabins are more posh than I'm used to, but it makes the stay VERY comfortable. The food served at the lodge is top notch and sourced from local farms, which adds a lot to the experience. It was nice to come here and detox from technology and bustling city life, I'd recommend anyone to do the same if you have the opportunity!

Absolutely magical place nestled in the Savage River state forest. Very quiet and peaceful with a great restaurant (and well curated wine list - you cannot go wrong with any of the bottles). The hiking trails are well marked and incredibly secluded.

Found this place on a trip to outer bank's. Were very excited when we pulled up after the adventurous drive into the place. That turned to disappointment quickly. Menu looked good but AFTER ordering, waitress cameback (several minutes) and informed us that the item was no longer available. After waiting 45 minutes for our food it was served barely warm. My wife's avocado was BROWN!

The setting was beautiful. We took a key before dinner so we could check out a yurt with intentions of a future getaway. We returned that key without even checking it out. We would not want to stay at a secluded lodge and plan to eat at that restaurant.

My wife and I stayed here in a yurt for our five year anniversary and we absolutely loved it. This place is super cozy. We had all our meals at the lodge and were extremly satisfied with the varied options. The yurt was amazing.
It's perfect for couples trying to get away and spend time together. There's also tons of easy hiking available.

I would have loved to review this place based on my stay with my wife but was never given a chance to do so. I had made online reservations and was contacted via email about my reservation. They stated that there was a 3 night stay minimum because of the holiday(Christmas). I had reserved Dec. 22 -24. A two night stay. Knowing it was a holiday weekend and usually establishments have certain rules on holiday stays I verified that Christmas was not on their list of 3 night minimum at the time of my reservation. I called them to tell them that Christmas was not on that list. I was still told that it would have to be a 3 night stay. I told them that my wife was handicapped and a 3 night stay would be too hard on my wife and would not be possible. I had reserved one of their Yurts because it is one level and it would have been perfect. Their cabins have lofts where the beds are located and too many steps for my wife to take to get to the beds. I was hoping that this would change their mind but they still wanted the 3 night minimum. They even said we have cabins...really!!! Wife... handicap... stairs!!! So if you have physical challenges forget about this place, seems you would not be treated fairly.

This is a response to Emily s comment:

I know that you require a three night stay on certain holidays. I have a screen capture of your website list and Christmas was not on that list as of Saturday morning when I called SRL about the reservation. I know the online reservations are not final, you did contact me, that s why I called. I can email you the screen capture if you want me to. You can clearly see that Christmas was not listed among the other holiday, but it seems that you ve corrected it because I see Christmas is listed now. As for the suggestion of the sleeper sofa, really... would a sleeper sofa would be as comfortable as a king size bed. Shame on you trying to portray me as someone trying to bend the rules.

A must-see! Gave it 4 stars since I didn t actually stay there this time, but will. Went strictly to check it out. BTW- they recommend you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Judging by my pictures, it s a must! Can t wait to go back and actually stay there- especially in one of the Yurts!

We only had a 1 night vacation and I knew this was the place for us. A remote location, yet easy to get to from I-68. Back in the pines and far from the maddening crowds. The weather was sadly overcast but the peace was amazing. So quiet except for the birds in the woods and occasional frog. No TV or internet in cabin but in the lodge you can get WiFi. Very relaxing and peaceful. Really enjoy the serenity before the chaos of 3 young grandkids for a week back home in Indiana!

My husband and I had an amazing weekend away just the two of us celebrating our 9th Anniversary. Everything was wonderful from the moment we stepped foot into our beautiful Yurt. The details that went into the decor to the beautiful views from every window. Food options were slim because of the restrictions of covid19, but the one meal we had the first night at the resort was a delicious Italian meal. Homemade pasta and the most amazing Bolognese sauce I have ever had. We sat on the lodge outside porch where we could watch the hummingbirds flying in to eat. We walked some beautiful trails both days we were there. We saw some white tail deer and some other forest critters. There is a cute town about 20 minutes away in Frostburg. We grabbed a coffee from Clatter Coffee Shop and we walked around exploring. We slept with all the windows open and woke up to birds chirping. Floors are heated so it s a nice touch when you get out of the shower. Fresh Squeezed Orange juice and a jumbo muffin was dropped off on our doorstep for breakfast. Complimentary with our stay. We did a wine tour in the woods sampling different wines from the around the world. We met the owners and talked about how we can t wait to come back with our kids. We met other couples from different states and enjoyed a lovely conversation by the fire as we sipped our delicious drinks from the lodge bar. We snuggled up in our robes on our private balcony and watched the sunset. This is a weekend we will never forget. Thank you Savage River Lodge for everything. You exceeded our expectations. We can t wait to come back.

Excellent customer service hands down! First, let me begin to say that my family and I stayed when there was a power outage in the county from 5pm to the next day (afternoon). My family stayed in a cabin and we were utterly disappointed (not the lodges fault but the whole one day trip felt ruined due to the power outage and we felt bummed). However, the lodge was very exceptional in assisting us with additional battery powered lamps, extra flash lights, and drinking water. After settling in, I went to the main lodge to order some wine and just missed the bar hours, but the staff was sooo generous in reopening to get me my much needed wine and oh boy... that wine helped us get through the dark night (lol). The cabin we stayed was clean and the bed was very comfortable. My kids (6 years old and 16mo) enjoyed the stay as well and they had enough room to roam around. After seeing my friends yurt, I d recommend the yurt over the cabin for a family with kids since it s much wider open space for kids. Plus, if there is a power outage, the yurts are connected to generators, so that s a win-win option to think about. The main lodge is cozy and nice as well. Unfortunately, we didn t get a chance to try their restaurant but we plan to make a visit to the lodge again. And finally, a big shout out to the staff member named Jill. I left my camera tripod at the lodge and Jill took my information and was able to locate my lost item. She was so kind enough to ship it back to my home (I of course payed shipping). But I felt so grateful for her kindness in helping me search for my tripod and taking the time to box and ship it to me! Thank you Jill!!!! Your kindness won t go unnoticed!!!!

Trails were not groomed for a holiday weekend nor, were the trails adequately marked for ease of navigation. We've skied many outdoor trails here and in the Rockies. Staff was not willing to help. I expected much better customer care from a private ski lodge. In addition, does not care for disabled service members. No need to return.....

Had a wonderful stay at SRL this past weekend (mid March) and am so happy to have finally experienced the lodge cabins and overnight stay. The cabin we stayed in was extremely cozy and had everything we needed. In the morning, coolers with muffins, orange juice, and any drinks ordered the night prior (we got the fixings for bloody Mary's ) were left on the porch. This was a nice touch. There is tons of hiking and activities to do and disconnecting was exactly what we needed. The lodge is a beautiful building with a bar and full service restaurant. We tried many items for breakfast, lunch and dinner and enjoyed each dish (everything was reasonably priced as well). I can't reccommend enough. Even as a former local to Garrett County, this was a wonderful getaway into the woods. Thanks Mike and Jan for a great time!

Beautiful Grounds, Hiking Trails, and nice infrastructure. Cleanliness and Communication is lacking, and it seems like based off past reviews there isn t much effort to correct it. I ve stayed here 4-5 times in the past and loved it, this past experience was a bit off-putting. I can only describe it as front desk has no idea what is going on (tried multiple times to schedule masseuse appointment and each time being told we will check with them and never receiving a followup. I ended up just cancelling because the experience trying to get them to fix it wasn t even worth the massage.)The little pre-covid touches are no longer there (fresh OJ and muffins have since been replaced with what appear to be freezer burnt, store bought muffins). I ll give it a 4 stars because I know what this place can be outside of COVID- but there needs to be some serious customer service training with your people and to buy a ladder to clean the cobwebs off of the high spots.
