Nice atmosphere, light jazz music, and above average sushi. Staff was friendly; if slightly absent. Rolls were tasty. Also order some eel sushi which was nice. I still prefer Maru but would still go back.

They have amazing sushi with a wide variety of rolls to choose from for everyone. Even people who are just starting with sushi can find one here to enjoy. You also can see the chefs making the sushi so you know it's fresh. It is hands down the best sushi I've ever had. I would just highly recommend making a reservation before coming here.

One of our favorite places in Lansing. The food is always delicious and the service is always great. Try the crispy crab bites. The sushi is delicious too. During the school year, call ahead and make a reservation or you will be waiting for awhile.

The atmosphere and the food at Sansu were great. You can choose to eat at typical tables and chairs, or in a section where the floor is raised so it seems you are sitting Japanese-style on the floor (there are wells beneath the table for your feet, so it is more of an illusion, but still neat). The sushi was great, with a wide variety and prices from pretty affordable to more on the fancy side, and the servers were all kind and knowledgeable.

I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and the spider roll because most establishments can't get this wrong. I was actually pretty dissapointed. I tasted nothing but cucumber and no flavor whatsoever. While the portions were large, it meant very little because I ended up only eating 3 of the rolls as they fall apart.

This place is amazing, I've been coming here for years and the service always exceeds expectations. Every time I go here the staff is extremely polite and does whatever they can to help me. I will be coming back for a very long time and cannot recommend it more to anyone who is looking for a fine dining experience.

Some friends and I went here in the evening during the week and were pleasantly surprised that it wasn t too crowded. The sushi selection was vast and interesting, and tasted good. It s not the most amazing sushi I ve ever had, but it tasted just fine for the great price.

It's difficult to assign a star rating to this restaurant as I would give it a 3 for food and 5 for service.
The sushi rolls are simply okay. They are HUGE and too big to fit in anyones mouth easily. The seaweed salad tasted as many others I have had, whether that be from a grocery store or other sushi restaurants. Our appetizers were tasty, especially the vegetable gyoza. The restaurant does offer a large diverse menu of choices which can appeal to those who aren't big sushi fans. I guess the quality of the food for me doesn't match the price. The rolls are expensive as well as the sushi platters and appetizers. Prices are very high for average quality fish.
Our server was great! Very pleasant and patient though very busy.
This is a popular restaurant so it's best to make a reservation. They do have a nice cocktail bar, however, if you need to wait.

Excellent food options for those that don't care for sushi. Fair prices that are on par with other high end restaurants. The staff was friendly and helpful. The cleanliness is good. Space is very tight in the main dining area. I would recommend them to a friend.

One of my fav Japanese restaurants in the area! The vegetarian gyoza is so good I could eat it all day, every day.

They have a pretty substantial menu where you can find ramen, sushi, bento boxes, and GYOZA, which might just be the best thing ever.

The atmosphere is very pleasant and serene and is often a place people go before heading to the Wharton Center to catch a performance.

I loved the place. They have a traditional seating area where you can take off your shoes. Turnaround is pretty quick and food is very delicious. Prices are very competitive as well. One of my favorite places to eat rolls in Michigan so far.

I just moved here from NYC and I was worried I wouldn't be able to find the quality of sushi I've been used to. Sansu exceeds all of my expectations! Expect long waits but it is totally worth it for the experience.

Great sushi restaurant, very different and unique to other restaurants in Michigan, the food is amazing, very well presented, fresh and with a twist. The service was also great. Good prices. A place to visit many times and a regular if you live in the area.

Usually amazing ! Fluke day. Food takes a little bit longer, but with the soup and salad first, it's unnoticable. Precision cutlery and presentation! Best Green Tea and Miso of my life!!!!!!

Food was warm and portions big, probably much to the appreciation of the student crowd. The texture of the noodles (udon and soba) was good, and there was a good amount of veggies in my soup. Sadly, both dishes were bland and lacked flavor. Service was enthusiastic but a bit random, at least they let us in, this time. Two months ago, we were told that it would be a half-hour wait, with several tables empty and not obviously reserved...oh well. Actively looking for alternatives, close-by.

Very friendly service and delicious food. Overall a great experience. They offer a wide variety of rolls and traditional Korean dishes to choose from. For those who aren't a fan of fish, but don't want to feel left out while everyone else eats rolls, I recommend trying the philly cheese steak roll. You won't be disappointed!

Thank you Alexandria for making our daughters ninth birthday celebration memorable! Our discerning little girl chose Sansu over every other restaurant with gimmicks and games that market to children. She wanted great sushi for her birthday dinner. We booked the private room before we realized that it was traditional Japanese-style seating. That meant our older guests who have ailments weren't going to be able to eat with us. They changed our reservations with a few minutes notice, and were very accommodating. Service was exceptional and we weren't rushed out when we took a little extra time for her to open gifts after dinner. The kids cleared a plate FULL of Sushi and everything else was delicious. Thank you for an exceptional experience!

An East Lansing favorite, I go here every time I'm in the area. They have great sushi but also really great Udon. They are slightly pricey compared to many other local options, but their food, service, and ambiance make it worth it. It can get pretty crowded at peak times so make sure to call ahead.

I went for lunch and enjoyed one of their Bento boxes. It's a great value but it is very filling. The food was tasty and the atmosphere was nice. It stays pretty busy so it definitely seems like a local favorite. My friends regularly go here, but this is the first time for me. I'll be returning, and learning how to use chopsticks so I'm not alone in the restaurant with a fork!

Agh, I do not know why I returned back to this place. With the exception of the food quality, this place dissapoints me. The price for sushi and entrees is typically $1-$3 more than any other sushi restaurant in the area, but what really is the buzzkill here is the service.

Service.
Is.
Horrible.

My co-worker and I went back here for a late lunch around 1PM on a weekday. Had to wait a few minutes to get a seat, but after at least 15 minutes we still had not been asked about drinks or greeted by our waiter. A few minutes later, moments before we were about to get up and leave our waiter came. The waiter unapologetically asked for our drinks and we ordered immediately in fear we might never see him again, and we didn't not until 10 minutes after we got our food from someone else, which was 30 minutes after we ordered. Grand total of 40 minutes since the last time we saw him. I am pretty sure I saw other people get up and leave as well.

The saving grace was the food, it was fresh and tasted good, but only as good as it could taste after it was soured by the customer experience we had received.
I am not sure I will ever be back here, it will definitely take alot of convincing from my co-workers to get me back and I am not even sure they want to come back even though they were Sansu enthusiasts!

Never did our waiter apologize. I really think he thought he was a good waiter and was doing a swell job. The 2 stars is for the actual food, since it was fresh and tasted good. If I could have given my tip to the chefs directly, I would have.

Save your time and money and go to AI Fusion, weekday specials and a bartender/staff that actually seems to care.

Easily the best sushi restaurant in Michigan; one of the best in the country. Been coming here since it was just a small sushi bar on the other side of the building. We don t live in town anymore but always stop when driving past East Lansing, going to a game, or sometimes make an hour drive just for the food. It s simply excellent.

My wife and I love Sansu....so much so that the sushi chefs smile and wave at us when we come in (yes we may go there too much). They have some of the best sushi and sushi rolls in town. The staff is friendly, helpful and hard working. We will go sometimes with a large group of friends and I am always impressed how quick our food gets out to us. Keep up the good work Sansu!

Experienced some racism tonight at Sansu in East Lansing. I originally enjoyed coming here for lunch and have had several good outcomes. Tonight the host chose to call out names of carry out orders when I was next in queue. After that he seated a table without the courtesy "How can I help you?"
A hostess or manager (based on attire) walked up to host location. Let me preface this next part with I am next in queue/1st person in line. The hostess asks a woman behind and to my right "Can I help you?" The woman had to correct her with the obvious information that I was next by non-verbally directing her to me.
