San Su: Sushi & Cocktails Review

The sushi here is excellent,at least given that it's in a land-locked city in a land-locked state. Best in the area for sure. Broad menu, lots of tastes, good service with knowledgeable staff. A bit pricey but worth it.

Another strange yet delightful case of a fantastic restaurant being situated in a dreary strip mall. I'm always prepared to be surprised. Celebrated my girlfriend's birthday here and we had a fantastic time.

The food in here is usually good. However it takes too long to get our food come.

You don't even have to enjoy Sushi to enjoy this place but for the record, the sushi was great too.

I had some delicious sushi (lobster and shrimp roll), a salad, and miso soup. Everything was made perfectly and the staff was very kind. I also noticed how clean and the building was and how efficient their pick up area was. Great job! Can t wait to come back!

Came in the other weekend and had an amazing experience. It was extreamly busy so we had to wait a decent amount of time for the food, but it was completely worth it. The waiter was very friendly and helpful as well!

Great food but the service is just terrible. Even if you make a reservation, you almost always have to wait. I ve been waiting for an hour even though I made a reservation.

Be careful what time you go because it does get busy but the sashimi dinner was damn good and the quality was wonderful!

My favorite sushi place in the Lansing/East Lansing area.

Love this place. This is a place that we frequently visit. I have had some minor staff complaints but the qaulity of food and the environment makes up for it.

Great upscale atmosphere. A little pricier than other sushi restaurants but it's well worth it. The bathrooms are clean, and the staff are helpful and knowledgeable about the food. One of the best sushi restaurants in the area, definitely.

The customer service is not good and everything cant be blamed on COVID.

I absolutely love this place! Coming from Seattle it was hard to find decent sushi. Always a great time for my wife and I. Great food, great people, and not expensive. We are regulars and always will be. Sansu is the best Sushi in all of East Lansing/Lansing

This is the best sushi place! The traditional seating is fun to sit and eat at. Service is usually quick and the food is amazing!

I came here for my birthday. It was early and not much in the way of people eating. When my wife and I spoke to the hostess we were told we couldn t be seated for 20 minutes. Under any other circumstance that would be fine. However I counted 6 open tables and as I stated earlier the restaurant wasn t actually that busy. When I asked about the open tables I was told that it was a result of the restaurant being short staffed. Again this would be perfectly fine under any other circumstance. However there was a waitress standing next to the hostess saying that she could take tables. The hostess refused. I m not exactly sure what transpired here but this was a horrible experience. And the hostess maybe needs to be utilized in a position other than the front. She wasn t bad but I felt more like I was talking to a random person shopping at Kroger. No personality and very poor customer service. If I could give a zero star rating I would.

Service is always great and our food was wonderful! But if you can reserve before you come.

I ve been to Sansu twice, and I came back the second time because I d been craving it since the first time I went. I m worried I ll become addicted.

Their sushi rolls are artistic, generously sized, delicious, and they have a great variety. Even beyond the sushi (although I definitely recommend it), any of their soups/salads/entrees seem to be just as good.

The staff, while prompt, is courteous and accommodating, even in their busiest hours.

I ll definitely be back with more friends in the future (students eat at a discount on Tuesday nights!!!)

Wow! That s all I have to say about Sansu Sushi and Cocktail. I guarantee you can expect utmost freshness from the fish. Not to mention the extraordinarily friendly staff! In summary, you can t go wrong with sansu.

Great food and wonderful service! I waited for more than half an hour for my lunch bento box. Before I said anything, they came explaining and offered me a 50% off. I love this proactive approach

Food is low-average, service is horrible. Since we were over 3pm, they started lower the curtains, instead of kindly making us notice the time. I thought that they were trying to kick us off. Then, we had someone running after us outside the restaurant (!!) asking for more gratuity, since it looked that it was not enough. Gratuity is not mandatory if the service was below expectations, and we were not a large party. I found it very miserable, and we had to add 20% tip just to shut the mouth to an annoying woman, insisting on asking "why we left so few gratuity".

Good but not great. Many original rolls, but nothing that really stands out as amazing. The kitchen got really slow without a ton of patrons for lunch during our last visit but the rolls came out to perfection. Waitstaff was nice and apologetic about the speed but will make it hard to return for a lunch with limited time.

Tables were full as usual. Never been to this place without having to wait for a table to be available. The wait this time was about 10 minutes, why short? Because the college students are gone for the summer and it was around 8 pm when we got to the restaurant. Yes, the food, it was delicious and is worth the wait for sure. We ordered their signature Fusion Roll (in the back of the uploaded photo) in addition to Sushi Dinner (in the front of photo). My wife and I like to share our plates so both orders are recommended. If you are into tempura you will love the Fusion Roll.

They have the most high quality sushi in the lansing area!! Amazing!!

I love Sansu. I ve spent most of my life along the Gulf Coast and nobody makes sushi like Sansu! The orange crush is to die for

Immaculate. They opened about 13 years ago, just before I moved from Lansing, MI to Madison, WI. They've only gotten better. The service is polite, prompt and professional, and the food is always perfect. Always. I've been back on every visit, and I always make time for Sansu.

This place rocks. I ve always had a generous service. The hostesses are always quick to take care of you. It is a bigger restaurant so mid dinner shift, sushi can take a bit of time but I highly suggest ordering an avocado boat to get you to your sushi.

Expensive but high quality. Probably the best sushi in the area with Maru coming in a solid second place. Atmosphere can be a little hectic so I always opt to sit to the left in the more traditional section.

Some of the best Sushi around and the rolls are quite large. There is usually a wait but it's worth it.

When I lived in EL, I used to come here weekly for the 4:30-6pm happy hour specials. Best quality sushi in the area, and some of the best I've found across the country. My go to is spicy salmon or tuna and tempura salmon or tuna. Two rolls, soup, and salad out the door with tip for $15.

Dined here last Saturday with my girlfriends in the low table lounge. It was a great experience. The food and service was great. Highly recommend and would be a great date night!

Called to place a take out order and the girl was very rude answering my questions. I have been a sansu customer for over a decade and has always been the best sushi in the Lansing area. For some reason they are falling apart. I ve had multiple poor experiences lately. Today was by far the worst. First the hostess was rude. Then I decided to come in and order to speak to someone else. He was decent. We ordered and told us it would take 20 minutes. It took more than 40 minutes and the restaurant was not that busy. Like I said, I ve never had an issue with Sansu until a few weeks ago and now. Very sad to see so many issues as it is my favorite. Hopefully things will get better.

Best place to get sushi in East Lansing! The atmosphere is amazing and there are so many different roll choices. They also keep a very well stocked bar.

Can be as casual or upscale as you d like it to be. I am always impressed with the service and their attention to detail, as well as the consistency of food quality.

Service was outstanding and pleasant (even though one of my party had a lot of special requests). The sushi is always very good, highest quality, and well prepared. Ordered dessert and was very impressed by the Swiss cake with ice cream.

The front was perfect. Just like I had in Korea and Japan. The presentation was excellent. Even the decorations looked new and up to date, not the copy cat fakey stuff some places go for.you earned even bit of that tip

We arrived early for our reservation time and we were able to be seated in 5 minutes. We were in a party of 5 and ordered a wide variety of sushi and appetizers. They were short staff on Easter Sunday but our server Emily did very well to attend to our table, bringing our food promptly and kept our tea and water glasses filled. Thank you very much for a great meal! The favorite was Fusion roll but everything tasted great - thanks!

Favorite sushi restaurant in the lansing area. Not as over priced or Americanized as maru. Happy hour from 4-6 has really good deals that I highly recommend. Never been disappointed with my selections. Vegas roll is a favorite. Atmosphere is really cool. I love to sit at the tables that are lowered and on wood floor. Service is ok... the food and price make up for it.

As far as quality sushi and (fairly) authentic Asian cuisine, Sansu is by far, my personal choice for best in the East Lansing/Lansing area.

The food is here amazing, they offer a wide variety of different dishes and the list of rolls and nigiri and sashimi they offer is amazing. The service is really good and fast and the sushi bar staff looks really friendly. Definitely will come again!

Excellent tasting sushi...not a huge fan of sushi but if you are like me, then you will be impressed at the options and the taste.

Amazing sushi! The drinks were on point, but who doesn't have mint! Lol

The miso soup is nice and so is the sushi. The salmon is not wild caught but farm raised. They should give wild caught options for being a fancy place. Over all nice place.

The sushi here is fantastic. It is also expensive. When you order on Friday or Saturday night, the wait time is likely 40 minutes to an hour. The restaurant is very fancy inside and always packed on weekends. My fiance and I used to eat here all the time. We once ordered sushi on a Monday when it was slow, and the sushi was disgusting. The fish was gross and slimy and fatty and the tempura cali roll tasted off. We have not felt the need to go back.

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in the Lansing/East Lansing area. Service is always spot on and the sushi is very flavorful. Inside the restaurant is clean with a few sitting options one being traditional Japanese. Prices are a bit on the high end compared to other sushi restaurants, however, for a once in a while top end sushi experience this is our place.

Nice blend of traditional and modern asian cuisine. It's on the pricy side, but good for an occasional celebration.
