I always go for lunch when in the area and their Sushi is hands down the best I've tried so far. Wait staff is also excellent. After being disappointed at several other locations, this will be my ONLY "go to" place for sushi.
Best sushi place in town, would be five stars if it wasn't so expensive! Has traditional Japanese and American seating.
Changed my review to five star because they have great happy hour deals. Now that I've moved away I have to say I miss this place!
This place is great. Good quality sushi at reasonable prices
Always a spectacular experience. We travel three hours round trip and it's worth it!
Probably my favorite place to go for sushi in the area! Fun atmosphere and really yummy.
They have some of the best sushi I've ever had hands down. And you have to try their deep-fried ice-cream rock dessert!
the great taste is matched with an incredible presentation. absolutely top notch sushi!
Some of the best sushi I've had in Michigan. Great service, reasonable prices, and extraordinarily good location.
The best sushi in East Lansing. Never had a bad dish here and the service is great.
I definitely enjoyed my visit here, very large selection of sushi, and things for non sushi eaters, my wife enjoyed the teriyaki chicken
One of the lower quality sushi spots in the Lansing area. The raw fish is stinky (especially compared to other places) but the service is usually good. I had a to-go order today and the spicy tuna smelled very off, and the tempura shrimp roll was soggy and the roll was filled mostly with cucumber (it tasted like a roll of cucumber skin). The service was good at the counter, which is why I didn't 1 star, but the food quality is awful. Mikado or Sushi Moto are both way better if you're looking for sushi in the area.
Was always my favorite to go for sushi in East Lansing. A little expensive but you get high quality ingredients, well worth it.
Always consistent quality! I've never been disappointed in 15 years of dining.
I visited the US and my family that lives in Lansing told me I had to try this place and I regret it so much because no other sushi will ever live up to it's standards. Everything was amazing and just I hate it! I don't live in Lansing, do you ship to Melbourne Australia!!??! But in all honesty can you open a franchise I'll buy a store in Melbourne please I'll do anything to have your sushi again
Best sushi I've ever had. I have eaten sushi all over the country any many different restaurants. This is by far the best quality and freshest sushi I've had.
Hands down the best sushi in the lansing area and mid-Michigan overall. Great staff who are clearly concerned with the customers experience and food quality. While they stay busy constantly they still manage to provide exceptional service. I would recommend Sansu to anyone I know.
Literally pulled up before 9:54 PM. Guy saw me pull up then proceeded to shut the "open" light off. That's bad business. You are supposed to be open until 10 PM
Always delicious food, and friendly staff! Saki mmmm
Tried it for the first time today. The sushi was creative and very yummy! Lobster Shrimp roll, Double Salmon roll and the Barbarian roll are our new favorites!
Excellent sushi and Asian style food options. The sushi options are many and varied. All of the fresh seafood seems extremely fresh and beautifully presented. There is a large sushi bar, so you can see some of the assembly of sushi items. There is also a special raised seating area. Diners sit on the floor with their legs below floor level. A different and fun way to enjoy a meal. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restrooms are clean. The only negative is the beer pricing. A pint of a local craft beer, Old Nation, M-43, was about $7.50. Local grocery stores sell pint cans for abt $3.50 or $3.25. Other area restaurants, like the Brookshire Inn and Blue Gill Grill, sell draft craft pints for abt $4. Domestic bottles @ 12 oz , are often less than $4. So ... come for the food, and watch your bar tab carefully.
I have been here a few times and this is one of my go to places when I am in the area. Very good food and the service is awesome
I've been here many times and I love the quality of the sushi rolls. I also love the soup and salad that comes with the rolls. The restaurant interior is charming as well and they offer a traditional Japanese dining experience with floor seats and low tables for those who are interested.
A friend and I decided to go to Sansu one Friday evening for dinner. Placed my name on a list and was told the wait would be 30-40 minutes, which was fine. Time passed and my name wasn t called. I asked the hostess, who then claimed to have called my name (we were standing close enough to her so that we would have definitely heard my name if she did indeed call it). After pointing that out, she said that my friend and I would be the next table seated . . . and watched as she seated others (not us). At that point, we walked out. Ended up going to the Black Cat in downtown East Lansing, where they not only had amazing food, but OUTSTANDING service.
Sansu has gotten rave reviews for their food, and I wish I had the opportunity to try it. Given how my friend and I were treated, though, I will never set foot in that establishment and will encourage others to spend their hard-earned money elsewhere. Sansu is not the only game in town, after all.
Love this place. Visit here often for the lunch specials. Usually get the Spider and Devil roll combo. They come with a salad, miso soup, and noodles. Saki is great as well (I like Ruby). There are many other great sushi rolls here.
never had bad food here. A lil pricey, but the quality is worth the price.
The food was amazing. The service was horrible. We had a reservation at 7:15pm and got there 5 minutes early. They had our table ready right when we got there but it took the host until 7:30 before she seated us. The server seemed offended that we wanted water and it took another 25 minutes to come back to take our order. The food then took another 30 minutes to arrive and 8 mines to eat. There was a lobby full of people that could have had shorter wait if they were moreefficient in the service.
This place has delicious food and drinks. The atmosphere is great. The service can be belie average depending on your server but the quality of food ay a good price makes up for that. Best place for sushi in Lansing.
The food is amazing but the staff was useless. Bad wait staff ruined the experience.
Highly, repeat, highly recommended. Matches well against any place I've ever had sushi, including both US shorelines and numerous spots up and down Australia's eastern coast. Looking forward to a return visit next time we're in Lansing.
The number of 5 star reviews tells you all you need to know -- very generous portions, well-prepared and well-presented. Sashimi tasted surprisingly fresh for being in mid-country, and knife work appeared flawless (again, generous, too). Request to omit escolar from chef's choice was immediately understood and accommodated. Miso soup was top-notch. Service to match the food.
Only criticism is that I'm not sure all of the more adventuresome appetizers work, at least with chopsticks. The crab-stuffed avocado comes to mind, a bit much even when eaten with fingers. (Listen to me, complaining about generous portion size.) The fried scallops seemed a bit of an overkill, the batter didn't seem to do a lot for them and didn't stick to them. Simpler may have been better.
Mere quibbles. Some of the best food you'll find in Lansing.
Their sushi just like all the sushi place surround Lansing area, but a little bit better. They always packed because MSU is there. The quality of the food is okay, varieties of the drinks (if you're 21) okay, and the itself okay too. I cannot compare the sushi to the one I had when I was in Japan and Cali, but for Lansing area's, they're okay.
These guys know how to make perfect sushi! The service is very good, too. Book beforehand, cause the place is popular.
Food was great, service was kind, but a little rushed. (Was half done with my app. And they brought out my entree) I got the beef katsu, it was really good, I had only had a bite once of a friend's, so I was presently surprised but the great sauce. Croquettes and edemame were good too. I would definitely recommend Sansu, but make a reservation if you wanna sit at the low tables!
Had salmon and broccoli. Both were very nicely done.
For the past many years this has been the go to sushi place. I don't know if there is a comparable sushi joint in town. Sushi is on point. Service however is mediocre. Prices are quite high. Service is speed is decent. My favorite sushi place in town, however it is lacking a touch of welcomeness and hospitality.
Unique ambiance. Wide selection of rolls and ramen.
Service is alright because the place is always pack. Have to wait atleast 15min to get a table. Sushi is pretty good here. The serving size will fill you up face. Price is worth every piece.
I love the food and ambiance at SanSu. My wife, new daughter and I went to dinner with some friends recently. Unfortunately they do not have diaper changing station in either restroom. $200 for one of those koala baby stations wouldn t break the bank.
Food wasnt anything to write home about BUT what my review is really about is there customer service. While waiting for our take out orders we sat on the patio (only 1 table sat) and were rudely told the seating is only for dine in customers. I'm sorry but 1 there is a far more gracious way to deliver that message ( it was not EVEN BUSY) and 2 dine in or take out the food costs the same but they save on brick and mortar costs of having me there. Adding insult to injury I tipped , which is a bad habit of mine I'm learning for take out. I really think they should check their staffs attitudes. Incase the restaurant is reading this I was there 8/27/20 around 440 and the staff member was a young blond girl.
Great restaurant! The salad is delicious and there are several vegetarian options. Always great service.
Heard good things about this place when I first came to Lansing. The restaurant looks good from the outside, and has a great relaxing atmosphere once you step inside (especially the tatami section). I thought I would like the food as it was my first experience with sushi, but it wasn't to be...
Instead of liking it, I loved it! I've been to plenty of the other sushi bars around Lansing and none have compared to the quality and price of Sansu. The waitstaff is always prompt and well-mannered to boot. My favorite restaurant; without a doubt.
Nice modern/traditional aesthetic with wonderful Nigiri and Shashimi. Can be busy, but the wait is made so much better with call ahead seating.
Every time I go there, the food is excellent. Make a reservation ahead of time because there can be long waits.
I heard so much about Sansu from my roommate and heard about its fantastic reviews so I decided to try take out. The customer service on the phone was great and they were very kind when I picked up my order. However, after returning home and chowing down on my appetizer, the Sushi cake, I was repulsed by the taste of the Tuna. It was slimy like it had just came out of a can and had chunks of fish bone. The overall quality was poor and just tasted awful like fancy cat food. I love sushi, but this did not taste like good quality sushi. The only reason I didn't take it back is because by the time I got home to my food, the restaurant had closed. I also have felt sick the whole night. Do not order this appetizer it is DISGUSTING and way overpriced for what you are getting ($20)
Huge variety. We ordered 3 appetizers, two meals of bulgogi, an undon noodle bowl, and 6 different sushi. It was all delicious. The atmosphere was conducive to a great time. The service was great.
Casual, yet very welcoming atmosphere. Lots of Asian inspired options with an extensive sushi selection. Great place for a less formal dinner or healthy lunch.
Food and rolls were ok. Nothing great. On the bright side, no crowd on Friday night. Really could step up their game some.
Favorite restaurant in lansing area. Always good sushi and good atmosphere
Beautiful decor, popular, and delicious. There is nothing bad to say about this restaurant!
Excellent food, atmosphere, and knowledgeable servers. They have many gluten free options.
Just so good. Ball out you won't regret it. I ordered 9 rolls and didn't have one bite that I wasn't satisfied. Everything was above and beyond my expectations and the staff was so very friendly and very attentive.
This was the worst take out service ever experienced! Went in to pick up order, was told they were running behnd. They would call when ready. Waited in the parking lot 40 minutes. Went in to see what was going on. They picked up the order that had been sitting bagged on the table for quite a while. Hot food cold/cold food hot! Asked why they didn't call, "Sorry, mam! Hope you have a good night!" No excuse. Others were not only called, but orders put out to be picked up!!! Very disappointed! It's been a great ride Sansu but we will not return again!
Excellent experience, I ordered the Sashimi lunch with a Special California roll. Both were great, the lunch combo comes with soup and salad and the sashimi lunch came with side noodles. The Miso soup was amazing. I will be coming back!
Spicy seaweed salad
Sapporo beer
Mexican roll
They had open tables, however, they put us on the sushi bar
Really good sushi. Doesn't have cream cheese in everything.
good ambience. nice staff. the wild caught fish isnt really wild caught its farmed salmon. they need to get wild caught and say it is what it is. otherwise good soups and salads.
Went with my boyfriend and best friend while in Lansing for business, and we were not disappointed. Got a great selection of rolls, as well as more than a little sake, and left full and happy and only $80 poorer (which is a phenomenal deal for the amount and quality of food we got).
Fun atmosphere, great service, good sushi & edamame. They need to stop using Escolar as substitute for Tuna though. Escolar though not outlawed, is highly toxic to humans. Google it.
One of my favorite sushi places in Lansing. Recommend making a reservation or sitting at the bar Friday and Saturday night there is usually a wait.
Good food quality. The "tatami" section with the sunken tables is fun.
I love coming to Sansu! Their miso soup is the best in town and they have SUCH a wide variety of sushi rolls. My favorite is probably the sea dragon roll or the black dragon roll. Every time I go, I am met with exceptional service. Their waiters and waitresses are timely and polite and always give you the utmost attention when needed. Tip them well! They deserve it :)
Very good restaurant. Two seating options available. One is traditional and the other is contemporary.
Their fish is fresh, but the rolls are never very flavorful.
Not a sushi fan but they have other delicious Americanized options
Rolls don't contain much fish. Service is worse every time. Rolls don't come with soup and salad at dinner.
Okay, so they close for 2 hrs. every afternoon... (between 2:30 and 4:30)... I can deal with that but what I refuse to deal with is arriving at 2:20 and being told that they are closed. Very poor form and I will not return. There are too many sushi places open for business ALL day, thankyouverymuch.
Really nice place! The waitress was really nice and the food was amazing!
I'm new to the area & I wanted to say that I was very impressed with service & food here. I highly recommend it.
