The mashed potatoes (which you can get as a side to some entrees) are worth noting! They were heavy and creamy and studded with potato skin and so freakin' good. The fried calamari was also fun! Their breading is a little lighter than usual fried things so it wasn't too heavy of a starter.

We walked in to the water front establishment to a very friendly and inviting host. He worked to get us a table and joked with us on a very busy day but we weren t able to get one. We decided to leave and rather than walking through the busy bar area, we went out the side door marked only as Exit> . Upon opening the door, a 20-something bus boy/server ran over and grabbed us and said no no no you need to exit out the front door , which we understood and is totally fine. We made the comment that they should put a sign there to specify that. The server then muttered, well are you dumb? , as we walked away. Despite the attempt at belittling us, we continued to walk (Engineering degrees in hand) to the front where we were again greeted by the friendly host who again started working to find us a table. Sadly it only takes one bad apple to ruin an apple pie so we decided to take our business and money elsewhere rather than wait. We would be more than eager to visit the establishment again, but would appreciate if they were more accepting of low IQ patrons. Until then, I will spend the dollars I earned at my dumb-person-job somewhere else.

Do yourself a favor, get the clam chowder at Boston Sail Loft! Went there in the late afternoon on a Tuesday at an odd time so it was quiet when I went, but the staff was super friendly & attentive. I ordered the cup and a half (it's a cup of clam chowder and a half sandwich). The chowder was exceptional! The fries were very crispy, turkey sandwich was good. Also - very generous portion sizes! You'll definitely leave happy.

Perfect blend between family restaurant and dive bar. One of the few places to grab a drink next to the water on a nice day. Grab a Dark n' Stormy from the patio and watch the boats come and go.

Had an excellent lunch here today. Saw the reviews praising the clam chowder, so had to try it. It was superb. The texture was so smooth, silky and dense and really unique. My daughter got fish and chips and the fish was so tender and fresh it was almost like scallops! Staff was super friendly and they had great policy in place for social distancing/safety. Highly recommend this great spot!

This review is wayyy overdue! My wife and I first visited BSL in 2010 after an extremely poor experience at a neighboring establishment. On that visit we enjoyed an incredible meal and outstanding service. Flash forward 8 years... my wife and I brought our daughters to Boston for a family trip and our first meal out had to be BSL to see if it was a good as we remembered. We were thrilled to find that EVERYTHING was exactly as we remembered.

This is a family owned business and it shows!!! The Owners, Management, and staff are extremely warm and welcoming. I can't say enough about how inviting and friendly everyone is. On top of that, the food is outstanding! Do yourself a favor and get a cup (or bowl) of the clam chowder and one of their generously portioned and extremely fresh lobster rolls which highlights the lobster instead of drenching it in mayonnaise.

My daughters have already asked if we can make it back during our visit. Spoiler: we will!

Excellent food, service, & ambiance at the Sail Loft. Recommended by a local water taxi driver, our high expectations were blown out of the water (literally)! Jamie Tippings, the owner, was personable, friendly, & made sure we had a great time. The lobster roll, clam chowder, & fish & chips were phenomenal. We ll be back!

At first my visit was rocky, we were seated and sat there for almost 15 minutes before we were greeted by a server (and we were only greeted because I stopped the host and informed him of the poor service.) After that little mishap everything went smoothly. They gave us a drink and a dessert on the house for the inconvinence. The food we ordered was delicious. My boyfriend got a classic haddock sandwich which was so fresh and delicious, I stole a bite! I ordered a pasta that had all sorts of seafood in it, really big serving size, I needed help to finish it!
Started off bad but ended up a good experience. Would go again just for the haddock sandwich and the on the water view.

The food is good but the view service and atmosphere make this place. Preppy sailors welcome.

This is our favorite, go to bar. We live right down the street and end up here all the time. They have great cheap drinks and free Oreos! The food is amazing and atmosphere wonderful!

Absolutely amazing. Yes a bit slow but the quality is worth it!! Everything was fantastic and worth every penny. Glad to have visited. We will be back!

Service was great. Wait was only about 15mins. Loved the fish and chips but didn t care for the clam chowder. We sat right next to a window and it was great to have a late lunch watching out the window.

Found after an exhaustive online search for a place with good food and good children's options, when the one we'd gone to had stopped taking names due to wait times.

Amazing food, cool wharf building, friendly and attentive hosts, and our server, Alex was awesome.
On foot in Boston with 2 small kids in a stroller. About an extra 1.5 miles walk from where we were when we found it online.

2.5mi walk back to the hotel. Well worth every step!

Went for lunch here after a very disappointing whale watching tour (we didn t see any). Best fish and chips I have had in a long while. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Glad we decided not to have the clam chowder as a starter, as we wouldn t have done justice to the main course.

Three of us senior-discount types went for lunch yesterday (Wednesday) and enjoyed everything about this restaurant. We were very happy with what we ate, and pleased with the service and the way we were treated by everyone.

Great prices, nice location, good vibe that surprisingly lively and young. Got a huge plate of scallops and fried clams, were all delicious. Will definitely be coming back in my next trip to Boston.

Service was good, but the food could of been better. I ordered a Caesar Salad with salmon and swored fish that had no flavor and dry, my friend Ordered the surf and turf, the steak had hardly any flavor although the shrimp was good but not very abondent. Your Better off going to Not your average Joes.

This is a tucked away little place just around the corner from the Aquarium. 5 minutes walk from there at best. I was there early on a Tuesday evening, so at that time the place was rather empty. But the service was great, & the food was good. My lobster roll was definitely more lobster than any other ingredient including roll so I can't complain at all. Prices are competitive for the area. It's a city and near the tourist area so... I did enjoy it and would stop in again.

Good ambience, great service, and a good mix of a bar & restaurant vibe. Had the swordfish steak with lobster bernaise sauce - definitely a winner. The muscles appetizer is HUGE. We got soup in a "cup" that literally came in a coffee mug - super amazing!

Came for the chowder, stayed for the food and we're glad we did. Their chowder is definitely now on my top ten, nice and hot and full of flavor. Picked up an order of their fish and chips and it was HUGE... ended up bringing home leftovers for a second great meal. The view from the restaurant was equally awesome, we got to see the super moon over the frozen shore. Definitely will be coming back.

This restaurant intends to make it thru the pandemic restaurant crisis! Sidewalk seating and inside plexiglass partitions keep it safe, even at the bar! The food and drinks are yummy and service was attentive!

Fresh, crisp, flaky, melt-in-your mouth fish. At least 8 pieces, about 2 generous bites per piece. Chunky, flavorful French fries. Worth the price paid and easily feeds two with one platter (and we don't have small appetites ). Best fish n chips I've ever had, and that includes Seattle, where I'm from!

A fun place to go with friends. Very laid back, food is simple and tasty (I usually order the apple and fried goat cheese salad - mmmm!), and I take my out of town friends here for the clam chowder...not those usual touristy places! Beautiful view of the water as well.

The food was pretty good, but the service left a lot to be desired. My wife and I received different size bowls of chowder and I didn't receive my cold slaw with my sandwich. Also, they added 18% gratuity to the bill, which I didn't notice until after leaving them another tip. Normally I would just chalk this up to me not paying attention, but because of the service, I really wish I had not left a larger tip.

This was an original seafood restaurant, we ordered fish & chips, & it tasted like they had just caught the fish.Very good service, prices not too high, nice atmosphere, & you can sit at a table that overlooks the water. Well worth it.

Out of towners from Ohio, this was our first stop and it did not disappoint. Good atmosphere right on the water. The fish and chips portions are huge, big enough to split for two people. The clam chowder is pretty good as well.

While in Boston, I was looking for a place to get some traditional fish and chips. The Loft is a nice walk from the Boston Harbor Hotel. It is a small restaurant right on the Harbor. There is a small observation deck to view the Harbor and get a drink while you wait.

When I saw the clam chowder, I had to try a cup. It was delicious! I love how they dip the cup in the chowder to fill it. Nice bits of clam throughout the creamy chowder.

I had the traditional cod fish and chips. The fish was awesome. Perfect crunchy batter and most tender filets. The chips (fries) were very good. There were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They actually tasted like potatoes. It reminded me of my Mom's homemade fries from my childhood.

The staff was friendly. You might have to wait a few minutes to get in, but it should be worth it.

If you are lobstered out and want to try some other traditional Boston dishes, give the Loft a try.

I arrived at 2:55pm on a Tuesday.

- [ ] Raunchy smell upon entry (probably the carpet.
- [ ] The host wanted to seat me in a very small table in a crammed space against the side of the bar even though the restaurant was almost empty and it was between lunch and dinner time. When I requested a table by the window to enjoy the water views he declined saying that table was given for parties of up to four people. I insisted to be seated at one of the many 4-seat tables available and he begrudgingly seated me where I requested.
- [ ] 2:30 mins to take drinks (good) pineapple juice
- [ ] Server delivered drink and took my order at 5 mins (Clam chowder and tuna salad sandwich)
- [ ] Food served at 8 mins (good)
- [ ] Clam chowder was loaded with dill, a very pungent herb, which overpowered the flavor of the clam. I sent it back and it was removed from my bill.
- [ ] I also had half of a Tuna salad sandwich which tasted very bland with no flavor. Just tuna, mayo, tomato and lettuce with chopped onions. No celery or condiments in tuna salad.

I give them 5 stars on speedy service (although the place was almost empty), but a failing grade on the taste and quality of food and on the smelly carpet. I won t be back.
