Incredible national park. The saguaro cactus can be found naturally nowhere else but in Arizona, and the scenic routes for this park offer the best of Sonoran desert scenery. Best visited late fall to early spring.

I grew up in Tucson and have always loved the giant Saguaro. In retirement I moved back here and periodically go to spend time with those giant cacti. I tell people there is Saguaro juice flowing in my veins.

So amazing to see the mighty Saguaro ! So glad it has its own National Park, both East and West of Tuscon. It is definitely worth a visit to learn about rare and unique species of plant. Humans have had a devastating impact on the Saguaro population, and the more awareness we bring to help save and restore these prickly giants, the better.

I have hiked the East part of the park many times, probably more than twenty, and it is always wonderful. If you go with children, there are lots of flat trails that go through beautiful arroyos. Just be sure to keep kids, and yourself, a healthy distance from the cacti, for the protection of all, plants included. You can also hike up into the Rincon mountains, all the way up to Rincon peak which is over 9,000 feet in elevation, or partway up. Lots of people run the trails in the park. Going up into the Rincons involves some effort, and I've seen ice on the last part of the trail to Rincon peak at unexpected times (unexpected when I was in high school, anyway, but that was in the 1970s- I haven't been back to the top since). Go and enjoy...

Great place to go and hike. Spring is beautiful here as the saguaros are flowering during the season. If going a long hike consider starting early in the morning as it gets really hot really fast

Dirt roads were tough on my rental car getting to a trail. Workers at center were not nice. Honestly I was not given good directions for the hike. In fact the worker made me feel as though I wouldn't be able to as he continued to make references to the temperature. I did not like that he did not even properly guide me as to where I would get the trails. I did not think there were good signs at the center either as to where the trails were--2 miles away. Also there was a trail outside the center that was not on the map. Confusing. Cacti and petroglyphs were cool. We did only a small portion of the Esperanza Trail as I had some anxiety from the worker.

My husband and I went for a drive through park. I didn't go into visitors center since we had our dogs but my husband did. He said the ranger that helped him buy our pass was very friendly and knowledgeable about the park .

The park is beautiful. Stop into the visitors center to find all sorts of information from the park rangers who will give you all sorts of ideas of things to do outside of the park as well as where to find the ancient stone markings on the picnic trail etc. I'm a huge fan of a penny press machine and have a couple from all over the country so I'm always thrilled to see one in the visitors centers when they're there so yeah they have one. Anyway there's many places to pull over and stop and take photos. You're allowed to get out and take some roadside pics but if you want more in depth I suggest going hiking in their trails very early in the morning when it's cooler. Definitely make sure you're prepared with not only water and shoes but also have knowledge in the wildlife such as snakes and African bees. There's information about what to do not to in the visitors center for the park and also where you can purchase your park parking pass.

Easily one of the best national parks (though I've only been to 31 so far) due to the completely different vibe than usual. The cacti and thorny vegetation that grow everywhere between the saguaros are stunning, and impressive beyond just their flowering, spiny goodness for their ability to thrive in what must be the world's most diverse desert.

But I'm writing this review more about the young ranger who went through our kids Junior Ranger books. I wish I could remember his name, but he was a young 20s Hispanic guy and went absolutely above and beyond, checking all three kids every answer and talking for at least an hour with us about the chollas, the animals here, and everything in between. He was a wonderful person to spend a sliver of life with and I hope his dream of becoming a law enforcement or interpretive ranger comes true.

Oh, and the western unit is better than the eastern, though it gets less recognition. More of everything.

I recently visited the Saguaro National Park and found it to be just great, from the many monolithic Saguaro Cactus to the many other species of cactus. Standing next to one these monster cactus makes you feel very insignificant. The abundance of wildlife can be found all around, from birds and lizards to Cicadas buzzing and flying all around you. June can be very hot as it was 40 deg C (104 deg F) on the day we visited. Take plenty of water and good sunscreen. Great photo ops at every turn. We visited the East National Park. It had a sealed road that made it very easy to get around with ample places to stop and get that special photo. If your a lover of nature, deserts or cactus, this is the place for you. The visitor center closes at 5pm and the staff there were happy to answer all of my questions.

Saguaro National Park East is a lovely park with hiking paths, shaded and unshaded picnic areas including a few with grills, and the loveliest 8 mile driving loop. There are plenty of pull-offs off the loop including parking areas for trailheads. Check in advance to know which stops have facilities. Facilities are generally clean and consist of pit toilets.

It's a great Park to take in wildlife, vegetation, wildflowers in the spring, and of course the mighty mighty saguaro. The Visitor's Center has bathrooms with flush toilets and sinks, a small gift shop and exhibits along with a small theater where they show an informational 20 minute video at regularly scheduled times. There is also a water bottle refilling station/water fountain on the outside of the visitors center.

Amazing National Park dedicated to the Saguaro and other cacti. The visitor centre is well worth going too. They have a film show every 30 minutes about the park and the custodian ship of it by the native O'odham people. Loved it.

The visitor's center itself is amazing. So many things to buy from jewelry to books to little knick knacks. We asked the staff behind the counter for good places to hike to look for wildflowers, and found out we were too late for wildflowers. However, they were super nice and recommended all kinds of other trails. We took the recommendation of kings canyon and it was a great hike. We even found petroglyphs!

Not to mention SNP west has a ton of lectures, hiking tours, and classes every month to keep people engaged in the Sonoran desert! Can't wait to go back!

Nice national park which is not that overcrowded like other parks in the U.S. Of course not that impressive since you can 'only' see cacti and animals, but very interesting though.
Everyone visiting this area should give this a try.

Living in Kansas and never seeing cacti or deserts before, I was thrilled when this was our first stop in Arizona. So many different cacti to see and lots of stops to be able to get out of your car and take pictures

An amazing national park capturing the essence of Arizona landscape. The main attraction here are the huge cactus. The scenic loop drive is made of unpaved road so it might get a little bumpy. Make sure to carry water while visiting this park.

You probably won't want to spend more than a day, but I had never seen anything like it. What a fantastic and unique place. We did the dirt road loop in a Honda Civic and it was totally fine. We'll maintained road.
