Being in the the food industry as a food critic, it saddens me that we have people running restaurants like this. After reading the reviews, I must say they are fair. The service was appalling along with the food. I will not waste my time writing about this in my next 'Dine with Great Food column'.

Steak was charcoaled on the outside, but very rare and bloody in the middle...
They charge $4 for a sauce to go with your steak...
I chose Garlic.. Was presented with a small eggcup of margerine and what i think was garlic salt? Not even a decent sauce!!
One Waitress was always in a hurry to get back to the bar to talk!
Not a good look when people that walk in after you, get their meals before you do.

Had my mums 60th Birthday last night and the staff went above and beyond to cater for our special night. All of our family enjoyed the night! The food, the atmosphere, staff were all amazing. Thank you soo much. Would highly recommend this place to hire out for a special occasion.

Had lunch at Sage a week ago. I have previously eaten there a number of times so recommended it for our Christmas lunch.

What a disappointmrnt will not be returning. I feel it must be under new ownership. Unlike previous visits it was not busy.

The waiter had no idea about the food being served and had to keep checking with kitchen about the food on the menu No gluten free foods available.

Meals and drinks brought to the table singly. We had to check a number of times on when our food would be served. Food quality very poor, too much fat in soup and spring rolls. Caesar salad and Greek salad mostly lettuce
and chips overcooked.

On paying the bill we advised that they had forgotten to bring one of the drinks and the waiter then remembered he had forgotten to bring it.

They need to improve otherwise they will loose all customers

The food quality is terrible. The steaks we had have definitely been sitting in a freezer for a couple of weeks. I doubt any of their food is made from fresh ingredients, yuck. Their $15 meat platter is just some coles or safeway ham and salami on a plate, no proper cured meats. The staff whilst friendly (+1 star) are a bit awkward and poorly trained (if at all) for restaurant service.

TLDR: until drastic changes have been made, avoid this place. It sucks.

We went there on December 20, 2012. Despite a hiccup with 'losing' the booking, the staff allowed our party for 27 to stay (first tick there :)).
The place was busy and soo very, Very. LOUD.
I actually ran into the small children's play area to cope with the noise. Carpet would been great for this place (Only half is covered).
After reading the dismal reviews before my own experience, I didn't expect a lot- even our party's hostess was a bit afraid! But my meal - Chicken, pumpkin and pinenut risotto was Fantastic. Everyone tried mine- after I couldn't fit another mouthful in- and declared they would try it the next time.
The people in our party that ordered steak well done were a bit disappointed with the medium to med-rare offerings but ate it anyway. All meals were large, including the Senior's 3 course deal.
Floor staff were a bit frazzled (well, they weren't expecting us lot:)) but generally well natured. The hippy-ish waitress was the nicest!
Price was on average. Going dutch, I paid 170.60 for 3 adult meals, three children's meals, two desserts, 4 pop top drinks, 2 coffees, a jug of lem, lime n bitters and a single of that bitters mix, too.
Recommend for families and people not worried by children.

Took at least 20mins for waiter to ask if we wanted drinks but then we had to ask for the drinks menu. Waiters looked so unorganized, didn't know where some meals were meant to go. It should be that hard when you have a set menu. Basically over half the menu not available. On top of that, we had to ask where our desserts were as we were waiting 40mins. A further 10mins later, we asked again, then a further 10mins we asked again which that women was apologetic but then a further 10mins, still not dessert so we decided to get up & leave.
Lucky it wasn't summer coz not one waiter came to ask us if we wanted any more drinks coz we would of died of thurst. First time there & it will be the last time. Not going back to this place again. Also saw that 2 other tables had to complain about waits on there food. The table behind us waited about an hour for there entrees. If this is what you are like on a day that had a set menu & there wasn't many people there, I would hate to see what full menu is like. Well I wouldn't because you'd be waiting for ages & they might forget what you ordered.

Terrable. We booked tables for 40 plus for lunch for Probus at 11.00am for lunch at noon, we waited one and half hours.
I had Barra on the menu it was NOT more like BASA frozen several people including myself did not eat it and we put in a complaint.
to no avail.
The waitresses were not very nice and we struggled to eat our food because we were cramped too close together.
A lot of complaints all round, food was of poor quality as was the service ,never again

These people should not be in business I gave a more than fair review and they reacted badly.
Telling my friends on their next visit that I was a F.....g. Bastard

I received a salad with dirty lettuce and slimy celery with my Entree I made them aware of this and received the same thing with my main course. How dumb can you get!!?

Their response was THAT IS THE WAY IT CAME FROM THE MARKET. Just as well the meat did not arrive all green and slimy from the supplier !!

They obviously don't care about Quality Control

I am a local and have noticed that this place is almost empty most of the time a good reflection!!!

Over priced for what you get. Lacks any Imagination on the Menu Very,Very Basic.
Hopefully they go out of business soon and are taken over by someone decent

From my experience I would avoid like a plague. The burger I had eaten wasn t enjoyable. To me the pattie had a consistency oily vitiemised meat moulded together with herbs to form a pattie. After eating half I decided not to finish it. My family and I came here for my sisters birthday on a friday night about a year and a half ago. The middle aged lady that greeted us at the front, showed us to the table was great and professional she also took our entree order. That s were it stopped unfortunately.

We had a young male waiter that delivered our entrees we were friendly and courteous with him. I believed that the older lady had finished her shift. When we finished our entrees we signaled the waiter that we were ready to order the main course. As this person came over to clear the plates he made this comment WOW, that was quick . There were 10 of us and two plates of entrees! The impression that our family felt was that he thought we were pigs.
Then when he realised what he said, under his breath stated something in the lines of my mouth is going to get me in trouble as he was clearing the table. He was smirking like a schmuk! Sorry but what a smart arse! no perception of how badly it looks upon him and the establishment he represents.

After he cleared the plates and left the table my sister, her husband, her teenage daughters and the rest of my family whispered to one another and said did you here what he said .

We decided that when he comes back we are just going to order our mains and not say anything else to him. When our main meals were heading our way we saw that this time there was an older waiter possibly 30-40 years of age that was bringing them over to us. No smile, no greeting, he just said the names of each dishes and as we said thank you individually when he places the dish in front of us he he didn t even acknowledge the thank you from us. I felt as though he thinks he works at vue de mondt or something! Lol. We didn t see the younger waiter he possibly finished his shift. At least a reputable establishment doesn t have three different servers throughout entree and mains.
There was no quality control half way through the mains to see if we are enjoying the meals or to top up of the beverages. When we looked around there were around 4 tables seated in the entire restaurant.

During the evening my partner went past the bar to go to the toilets he noticed that the older waiter was hanging around the bar talking to the bar staff and another waiter. As my partner walked past the older waiter, the waiter made a comment that his belt and lighter was Gucci and that it cost around $1000.00. My partner felt as though the waiter deliberately made the comment as he walked passed to possibly show off or to prove some sort of point.

When our table was cleared, after some time WE HAD TO ASK if we could order coffee and deserts. I didn t order any I just wanted to leave and get out of there. I felt uncomfortable and awkward, I thought that I would never in my life would experience a restaurant in Australia that had such bad customer service towards patrons, our family absolutely did nothing wrong or said not one thing that would upset staff. The staff sets the negative attitude that turns the atmosphere to been unpleasant.
I definitely wouldn t go back.

Sage's has disgusting customer service. We made reservations for a party of two and asked for a good table yet they seated us literally elbow to elbow with a neighboring party even though there were several empty tables. We asked to be moved and were refused if you can believe it. Needless to say we walked out. On previous visits to this restaurant we found the staff to be rude and arrogant. The food was ok but there's no atmosphere- kind of like a hospital cafeteria...just a large, open room. We will never go back.

Visited as a party of 5 last Thursday. Waited ages for drinks, there was hardly anyone there. Meals came out 2 at a time with my burger not arriving until after everyone else had finished their meal. I had to go and ask where it was. The burger was just cooked enough for me not to complain about it. No apology for the lateness. Very disappointing and spoiled our night as all felt awful that they were eating while l wasn't, and as we had been here numerous times prior. My order didn't even show up on the bill, waiter remembered what l had though.

The bad service starts even before you sit down at...

The bad service starts even before you sit down at your table. When we walked in and stood to be seated, the staff spotted us. However after waiting some time we had to walk to the bar at the other side of the dining room to speak to someone about getting a table. This is when we found out that the booking we had made over the phone earlier that day had not been written down (they even asked how to spell our name when making the booking, why wasn t it written down???)
Once seated we soon learned that one of the waitresses acted like she didn t care, as if she was disinterested and didn t want to be there. The other waitress on the other hand was completely different.
Then the food arrived, the warm bread loaf was somehow hard and impossible to eat but also soft and soggy at the same time. This was served with a butter knife to cut it with, however I felt like I needed an industrial saw to get through the hard crust.
I was even more disappointed with the mains, I had the eye fillet steak which I ordered medium. This came served to me over cooked, past the point of being well done, this made it very dry and chewy. Not what you would expect for $34.
Another person at my table ordered the fish cakes, these looked like crumbed packeted fish cakes from a supermarket freezer section. They were over cooked and had barely any flavour of fish.
Myself and my family have been coming to dine at this restaurant for over 10 years now. It is very disappointing to see a family favourite go down hill like this. I can safely say that I will not be returning to Sage Berwick.

Terrible service. Waited for over 40 minutes for desserts and when they did come out they only brought one even though we ordered 5 desserts. Took a long time for the waiter to even ask for our orders.

If there were zero stars, I would put a big fat zero. We had Christmas lunch here in 2018 and for the expensive price charged per head, it was appauling. The cocktail drinks tasted like juice. The "buffet" was horrible e.g. the rice/risotto was gluggy & tasted like plastic. The calamari was hard as a rock. Even the bread rolls were stale! So disappointing for Christmas. Pooly run business as when we tried to get a response on our deposit paid, nobody could confirm payment was received and then on the day they tried to charge us all for our deposits AGAIN. Not cool. Unprofessional, below standard of food (Drive through take away would have been better!) & not surprised it had closed down by the following week. Will need a complete overhaul with NEW owners and rebranding to get us anywhere near this place again.

Omg this place use to be busy many years ago and really good food and service. The complete opposite! Needs organised waiters and better food quality not quantity! I still feel sick from what I ate and I ate half of it. The need to reshape the atmosphere of waiters as we felt very displaced having a variety of waiters check in on us and lots of double up conversations. I just can t believe the food quality was below average. Much prefer a pizza next door! Good luck to Sage it has potential but lacks the basics.

Service was good but very disappointed with the food. This used to be one of our go to places to eat, but sadly, we ll not return.
The pork belly was rubbery and tasteless, the risotto was watery and plain and even the kids meals, basic nuggets and chips, were left by my kids.
$160 I ll never get back

My daughter had trial shift as a waitress tonight. She was introduced to NO staff members, she was screamed at for not doing one job fast enough (in the first 30 minutes of her first shift), and she was not instructed on how to do a single thing. She was expected to know all the table numbers within half an hour. Every time she entered the kitchen she was subjected to screaming abuse from the so called chef who also kept up a constant tirade against the kitchen staff. The chef and owner is belligerent, arrogant and abusive and he'd do well to take a deep breath and take a long hard look at how he behaves and if he's proud of the effect he has on staff who he clearly thinks are beneath him.
**Update 6th Nov**. Just received a phone call from this place demanding my daughter change her Facebook review of them. Their 'reasoning' was that she was told her shift was for them to see "how she handled it" i.e. if she could handle abuse. If you're wondering why this place is so bad, look no further than unhappy, bullied staff forced to work in a toxic environment.

We were greated upon entry by a friendly staff member and were told to choose a table. While looking around i noticed a knife on the floor and a lot of crumbs and food scraps on carpet. I ordered the cured meat share plate for starters that was discribed to be a slection of meat with pickled veg and flat bread. What arived was very plain. Bits of ham and salami with a tiny amount of pickled cabbage and two bits of very dry bread. For mains we ordered the thai beef salad and the beef and mushroom pie. The salad came absolutely covered in fried noodles to the point nothing else could be seen and the super sweet dressing was soaking the salad as for the pie it was a dish of stewed meat full of msg with a pastry round of the side. The pastry looked great golden and flakey but tasted of freezer burn. Overall we left very disappointed and yes the knife was still left on the carpet after the staff had walked past it countless times. Don't waste your money here you are better off going to coles as they do.

Terrible. Won't be coming back. Had a big family dinner with 18 people for mother's day, unfortunately they ruined it! We had to follow up our own order, which was only put into the system 45 min after we ordered! No follow up, no service, no offers of bread while we waited etc. Meals finally arrived, overcooked and cold. We had to push for any attention! New staff and a manager who doesn't want to know about problems and blamed his staff!

Literally the worst experience we have ever had at a restaurant. Waited 40 mins for drinks (which we ended up going up to the bar and bringing to the table ourselves because a waiter wasn t doing it). First main came out 1 hour after we ordered. 2nd last main came out over an hour after that. Last main didn t come out at all, but by the time we had been there for 3 hours we told them not to bother. Pizza was greasy, steak came out well done and cold (ordered rare) so was sent back. Came back out barely cooked, warm on the outside with only approx half of it edible. Alfredo was a bit of pasta mixed with a tub of warm cream. Steamed veggies were completely raw and cold. Wouldn t come here if I was paid, awful

Sage's team performed marvelously for our son's ch...

Sage's team performed marvelously for our son's christening today. The food was delicious and so plentiful that the 120 guests we had could not finish their meals. The service was great and I truely appreciated the constant communication from staff. I received compliments on your behalf from our guests.

Sean, Miguel and the rest of the staff, you are a credit to this business and it was a pleasure doing business with you. I would not hesitate to recommend you all! Thank you!!

Have been there many times and it has always been...

Have been there many times and it has always been busy. However we went for lunch yesterday (8 people)
There was hardly anyone there and after we got our food we realised why.
The food was terrible I had Barramundi from the senior menu it was very dry and had been cooked with lots of flour on the outside not really grilled it was supposed to come with onion rings there was none. The salad was drowned in dressing. The size of the serving was large but the quality was not there.
The Caesar salad as an entree was good.
The food took so long to get to our table and the restaurant was nearly empty.
The food and staff has gone down hill with the new owners.
Will not be going back again.
