I've called and left a message. They say they will call back and don't. I've called a couple different places and they say they've heard the same complaint from others about not getting a call back.

We had a wonderful experience adopting our Savannah cat, Maxwell, in June 2016. Max, at four years old and eighteen (!!) pounds, had been living at the shelter for almost a year waiting for his new family. The adoption specialist was upfront in explaining Max's sociability and behavioral issues. The staff obviously cared for his well-being and wanted to ensure we would be the best parents for him, as he had been returned once for biting. We were impressed with the SSPCA's honesty, the cleanliness of the habitats, and the way the staff members and volunteers took pride in their mission. They even lent us a dog crate as Max was too big to fit in the cat carrier! All around good place and good people.

They've helped me Twice retrieve my Dog. Nov. of 2018 our Family Pet escaped after a unexpected Windstorm blew down part of our Fence. A Good Samaritan took our Dog to SPCA. Once he was identified, while still searching for him, i received a Text about his location & got him back. About July 2019 I left dog unattended in a vehicle, a stranger called for him to be rescued & was, again with SPCA. Rescue wasn't needed except by Person making that phone call. We went and got Dog returned. M.

Feb 19 brought my dog in fgd or rabies and help shots. Left not knowing 7 days later my do
g would develop Kennel Cough. Someone's animal had an active case. I have tried calling to talk to someone but there are no phone numbers to talk to someone.
Now one of my other dogs has Kennel Cough. Lessons learned. Additional vet visits.
If you use the SPCA shot clinic leave your dog in the car until after you have been been through registration and need to be in the final waiting area. Guess I should have gone to my vet to begin with.

This is the place I adopted my beautiful cat Aiko. It's been about 6 years since I've adopted her but I'll for ever have a place in my heart for the Sacramento SPCA and the staff here for bringing us together.

I do not believe I have ever had a good experience...

I do not believe I have ever had a good experience with this "shelter" but this last one was by far the absolute worst:

Yesterday, after deliberating for several months, after trying everything we possibly could to avoid making this decision, we came to realize that our dog, Onyx, needed to be put down. My grandmother had had her for 8 years before she passed away and Onyx was left in our care. We've had her three years. She is blind, missing most of her teeth despite everyone's best efforts to maintain her dental hygiene, cannot walk after having suffered a stroke, and had started having seizures after her second stroke. Early November, Onyx became incontinent. We tried everything to help her but she'd only been getting worse by the day and Tuesday night had started to poo blood. We couldn't let her suffer anymore.

So yesterday, me and my brother took her down to the SPCA to be euthanized. I left my brother and Onyx in the warm truck while I went inside. Immediately after walking in the door, a man said "Can I help you, ma'am." Mistake number one. I am a man. I corrected him and told him I had to have my dog euthanized. He said i had to put my name down and called me Miss. Again I corrected him.
The woman I ended up dealing with also called me ma'am. By this point, my brother was inside with me, and we both corrected her; she didn't apologize and again called me miss when asking me questions. Later when she was on the phone checking on Onyx's microchip, she referred to me as a woman several times. Direct quote: "I have a woman here who wants to put her dog down" This was repeated several times as she called several numbers. My brother and I corrected her each time. I'm sorry I'm not a lumberjack but that doesn't give you the right to call me a woman when I've TOLD you I am a man.I don't care if a guy looks like Drew Berrymore, if he tells you he's a man then damn it, call him a man! I should have only had to say it once!
She said she would bring a cart out to gather Onyx since she couldn't walk well, but never did, instead ordering my brother to drag her inside while she continued to hound me with questions. Fine. Ask your questions. I get that questions have to be asked.

But then she "examined" Onyx. I use quotations because she obviously did not actually look at the dog, despite her prodding and making Onyx whine, because when she stood back up she declared my dog to be "Perfectly healthy." ...As Onyx was laying there, dribbling poo on the floor completely unaware. The woman ignored the mess and smell, continuing to claim that my dog (who is blind, remember) had bright vibrant eyes with no clouding, that her teeth (What teeth? the four that are rotting out? Those teeth?) were in perfect condition and that she'd walked fine(my brother had to carry her most of the way)
She refused to euthanize, saying that she didn't feel it would be right. She said all of this looking me right in the eye.

This place has deserved zero stars in the past and still does. Tomorrow I'm going back with my brother and our mother to file a formal complaint. Something this messed up needs to be brought to the attention of as many as possible. I'll update with how we're treated. I doubt it will be well.

Love what they do here! The organization of employees/volunteers could be better executed, but otherwise awesome! Go there and adopt a lovely new member of the family! Whether it's a rabbit, cat, dog, etc., they probably have it.

Made an appt for physical exam and all dogs shots and tests needed. Was so reasonable in cost, your animals see a real veterinarian as well as interns and you get to sign in and go right into the private back area instead of common waiting room. Great when you have two dogs! Was fast, efficient and affordable.

Found a elder Lost Yorkie & these folks showing their empathy as they're reputedly known; however, add on your checklist, if you don't live and/or find a strayed animal in their jurisdiction; you'll most likely be advised to travel to another local..my list stray was found less than 4 miles away between my home and SPCA, yet they were unable to take him in & care for him...Rancho Cordova is their specificity...word of advice to everyone: CALL first! That's my "downside " opinion, yet I will always be a permanent donor for SSPCA AND ASPCA ORG! They ALL are our Angels in Disguise

Vaccinations are a fraction of what I would've paid at the vets office. The wait is worth it. Staff is excellent with my fur bables. Highly recommend. Also, if you are a pg&e customer on the care program or are a veteran or student or elder, you can have your pet spayed/neutered really cheap :)

They do a great service to the community.

They do a great service to the community.

The adoption process is very through. We checked the site looking for a dog that fit our lifestyle and after a few tries we found her. Get there early and visit with the animals in an open area to get to know their personality...its only fair.

Just finished the Paint Pawty and Taco Bar with my daughter tonight at the Sacramento SPCA! It was amazing!! So much fun. People there are super nice and positive. They are really trying to bring more people here to bring more awareness. Couldn't bring myself to take a tour. Already have 3 rescue dogs. Lol! I painted my hen Bellina's butt and my daughter a dog. I highly recommend coming to a fundraiser event here!

Extremely disappointed, signed our dog up for training, paid the registration fee, was told via email our dog wasn't cut out for training because he barks. I was told I would be refunded my money, yet I have not gotten my money back even after I have emailed them and called them and left several messages. I just want my money back. This is an awful experience.

The process is long but OH so worth it! I am SO SO SO SO GLAD they made me bring back our foster dog to meet our first dog. We would have had such trouble! It would have been dangerous. The staff took the time to help us get the right dog for our family and home. I have so much respect for the wonderful staff. The professionalism was outstanding yet they have huge hearts. Great Job Sacramento SPCA. You are wonderful!

I went in August 2019. It was sad and busy. The guy at the desk was great. We sadly had to give up some kittens. He made the process simple. U have to have appointment but u can walk in and get an appointment. They neuter and spay animals also.

The staff are friendly, the facility is very clean, the animals look well taken care of, and the facility has a variety of animals in both the cat/kitten and dog/puppy sections...

Had negative experience when was told I could not adopt a husky because of a few years of my child's age, but the place is packed with large pit bulls. I was rudely refused. I tried to debate a supervisor over my ability to care for an animal and was met with what I refer to as "COMMUNISM". Basically I know I am an excellent dog owner and could provide better for a pet better than most on an animal control salary.....
Basically I was told they have no pet for me. It's not a gun, just a dog.
I can get one on Craigslist without a hasssle. Maybe you should do the same..
I was a long time donor to the spca until I got hit by the recession. I'm sure after the conversation with the "commie" ruler that will not happen.
LONG LIVE FREEDOM OF CHOICE.

I have tried contacting this location numerous times recently and in the past. All of my calls end up getting sent to a voicemail only line and no one ever calls me back. In the past 3 years I have never actually talked to a person on the telephone. Whether it is adoption injuries, finding a lost pet, or looking into their feral cat program.. They never answer or return your phone calls. Sad really.
I found a dog in my neighborhood, it had a collar on but the phone number was rubbed off. It was someone's pet. I called them and they told me if I wanted their help I needed to pay a surrender fee. They didn't offer any support what so ever. They could have at least offered to scan the dog and see if it was chipped. Sad.

We went to adopt a little dog to help my grandson with his anxiety and the people we're very helpful. The little dog Jack was I'll due to needing 27 teeth pulled and the vet there was so helpful and attentive to his needs before the adoption was complete.

Animal SHELTER?. They barely took in the lost dog. Said will kill them here. Intake girl was awful. And to think we donate to them. Still will do so for the 4 leggeds only NOT the 2! Very disappointed indeed.

I surrendered my cats and was told they are a non kill shelter (unless serious health issues). It's been a few weeks and they're finally listed under their adoptable pets. Rose & Midnight in case you want a pair of nice house cats! Easy process & clean facility.
