Super disappointed. .started with not enough towels in our room. Easy mistake could be excused. However the service at breakfast was appalling the staff were abrupt and uncomfortable organized we didn't know weather we could seat ourselves etc and was not spoken to warmly when asked. We sat for a fair while without being served and the after asking waiting another 15min to get our order taken. . Then had to wait even further for food which was not amazing (undercooked sausages we didn't touch). We felt then (after giving ourselves ample time before check out) rushed and the whole experience was not enjoyable.

Harbor View? Well, half ... maybe. We were in room 1205, but still we have part view only. I was surprised since we had paid extra to upgrade to a Harbor View!
but ..... if you sit in the chair by the window, and face it just so toward the harbor then you can enjoyed it! From bed however - blurgh.
Staff were all wonderful, very helpful. Breakfast was great - get an omelette with no extra charge which is So much better than the scrambled eggs. Coffee is good.
Amenities good. Bed quite comfortable.
Just be careful of your expectations for a harbor view room when you pay extra. Ask some questions before you book

I'm a regular visitor (every 2-3 weeks) and Rydges is my preferred hotel. Location works very well for me as my office is on Queens Wharf. Especially good when I get a harbour view! I find rooms, quiet, a good size, always clean and when I get around to it, I like ordering a feather pillow. Now there's a thought - find out your regular customers preferences and anticipate them such as having a feather pillow already in the room. I often eat in Portlander and think they do one of the best steaks in town though the wine is very pricey. The staff are always pleasant and helpful.

Only two complaints - the air conditioners are very temperamental and quite noisy though I've now worked them out. I often end up switching it off and then it gets too cold in winter, and too hot in summer! The other is PLEASE change your room service menu! I've been coming now for about 18 months and I think it's only changed slightly in all that time. The lovely lady who delivers the room service says to me "You really like Chicken Caesar salad"! I smile and think "it's the only thing on the menu that I fancy - again"! I've mentioned it 2-3 times but nothing changes.

Otherwise all good and I will be back soon.

Very low quality service. Lost an item of value at the rydges and instead of looking into it or following it up, they've given me the details to chase their suppliers instead. Not exactly customer service and the concierge should be managing the staff that work on their premises.

Great hotel. Staff is friendly.. there is nice restaurant on the ground floor. Hotel is located close to train station / beehive and the lambton quay. So you don't need a taxi as there are lots of stuff to see at the walking distance

Friendly staff, multilingual for my German & Te Reo speaking friends. Comfy rooms, a menu for everyone's palate with an amazing carnivore dinner selection of succulent beef at its best!! Mmm mmm. So very, very good!!

We had a balls up with the check in. Apparently they were short staffed so we had to wait 2 hours before we could go to our room (lobby wad full with others in the same situation) not ideal with a 5 month old baby that has just come off a flight. No free drink or anything offered either which was a bit disappointing.

Anyway, the hotel itself was good. Rooms were good. Beds were pretty average mainly because they were so small (double). Bathrooms were great and shower pressure was awesome and all the mirrors had antifog things so didn't steam up. Minibar well stocked.

We used the pool/spa twice which was nice and never busy. Great to have fresh towels down there too. Only thing is you exit the lift for that level straight into a room that they use for conferences so both times we had to walk through other peoples events which wasn't ideal. Especially walking back out all wet.

Breakfast was awesome!!! Totally worth adding it on. We were very impressed. Great selection and constantly getting refilled. You can have eggs, omelettes and pancakes to order and a decent selection of hot food, pastries, yogurts and museli and cute glass jars of juice, flavoured milks etc. It was busy but we never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table. The staff were super friendly and helpful too.

There is a deaf guy that we encountered several times dining around Wellington that just walks in and puts these plastic things on all the tables asking for money. Such an invasive and annoying way to do it. The manager was good trying to usher him out.

We booked this hotel because our regular hotel was under renovation and to be honest the room and breakfast were better and so was the price ! Nice hot spa also, as well as a nice lap pool. Not much of a gym at all, but most hotels don't have decent gyms anyway. Joined the reward program and will stay there again. Highly recommend to book a carpark with the hotel also of you are driving. Street parking is quite expensive .

Arrived, no where to park for checking in, and when checking in, no parking available, so had to park in another parking building, a few minutes away. Went to have drink, cost $26 for 1 wine and 1 beer. Ran out of wine so got half glass of wine and had to pay for a full glass of wine, NOT IMPRESS. Went for meal, was nice but very expensive. This place does have a nice atmosphere if you are prepared to pay a high price for the experience.

We often stay at Rydges both for work and for pleasure because of its central location and its quality and service. The rooms are lovely and we had a nice outlook.
Reception are always helpful and friendly.
This last time we stayed however, I was a little disappointed with the housekeeping. We stayed for 3 nights and did not get fresh towels after the first night. We also did not gett the bathroom toiletries replenished or the tea bags (I am not a coffee drinker) Small things I know but it is the attention to detail that makes a place.
We will of course stay again but would like those details attended to.
Thanks :)

Had one of the worst experience at this rydges. Stayed here for 2 night and hated the stay from ordering room service to house keeping staff were not at all helpful. Worst hotel I have ever been to

Good sized rooms, tidy and comfortable. Great location close to city and waterfront. Good selection at breakfast. The hotel was very busy and had to queue to check in and out. The staff were brisk and efficient, perhaps too busy to add that extra service that would have led to a 5 star rating.

I stay every week from Monday to Thursday, and have been staying at the Rydges for almost a year now so know the hotel very well, and feel qualified to be able to write a review. What is great about the Rydges Featherston is that the hotel has a welcoming feel, and is consistent in many areas e.g. cleanliness, facilities etc. This means a great deal when you travel a lot. However, it is the staff who make it fantastic, right from Udji who very kindly does all my bookings, Ryan (the Hotel Manager), the front desk staff who are just lovely and always smiling, and to the breakfast staff who rock! (the breakfast staff really start my day off well) .Not forgetting the great housekeeping team who very kindly make my bed each day, and keep my room clean. Being well looked after means a great deal when travelling so much and being away from home, and family. For me it doesn't feel like a hotel. PS: The new Barista is awesome - the best soya flat white Ive ever had in NZ!

stayed the weekend for a quick trip. Room is little outdated for this price range. All the photos on booking.com were not true representatives of the room's actual condition. Service was okay. Great bed although the air conditioner from 90s ruined the in-room air quality.

I stay frequently at Rydges Wellington and although the staff change over from time to time the service is always good.
it's good to see that some changes have been made to the decor in the rooms.
I especially commend the concierge service as they are extremely helpful and always provide me with exceptional service. The fact that they always remember me and call me by my first name is very much appreciated and acknowledged.

We loved our time here. Me and my friend were always greeted with top service. The rooms are comfortable and clean. We had an amazing view of the city back to the beehive. Was great knowing your stuff was safe too. Nothing had been touch in our rooms. We had good room cleaning services to. Well done.

Stopped here for buffet breakfast. $64 for two people, which I think is a little expensive for what is fundamentally egg and bacon. We went at 0900 and it was packed. I ordered poached eggs and by the time they arrived my breakfast was nearly eaten. Tables are close to the food and very cramped, so you end up bumping into others. Not much room for young families. Food was good, staff helpful. Unfortunately we won't go again.

Had a few issues that we bought to staff attention to which they were very quick to rectify the situation. Even going as far as upgrading our booking. Once issues were solved, all other aspects were lovely

Our family and my partner and myself love both coming with the children as well as ourselves. The service is outstanding and they most certainly go the extra mile and a little bit more. This is like a home, everything is so close that we need, a supermarket across the road, macs round the corner, train station across the road and delightful reception staff 24-hours a day housekeeping is top-notch and their buffet breakfast is outstanding most definitely highly recommend.

This hotel saved us when we had an unfortunate experience at our previously booked accommodation. Hotel was super helpful with letting us use their phone, good wifi, rooms were clean and cozy. Walking distance from the city centre and the docks. Great spot

Not up to the usual standard. Staff awesome as usual but some room issues. Heater not pumping out much heat and very noisy, room service didn't want to answer last night but may have been busy as they are usually on the ball. Something rattling outside my window in the wind all night so not much sleep oh and the hot water has been dialled back so hot shower isn't as hot as I like it

Average stay. Hotel reception was not unfriendly but not overly welcoming. Room was a balmy 12 degrees and required a call to the front desk to get the air-conditioning unit working.

Went to the restaurant for a late Sunday evening dinner. There were few patrons and the 4-5 staff were way more interested in loudly swapping stories, flirting and pranking each other in full view of the bar and restaurant than in the few customers present. This was the most unprofessional observation at a hotel or restaurant in a long time and created the ambience of a 2 star experience.

Otherwise an unremarkable stay.

Hope I'm right in saying Rydges Wellington employs 157 staff . The ones we saw were all on top of the game aswell. We just could not fault the personal attention given to customers. Will definitely stay here again. Top Mark's Guys

Harbor View? Well, half ... maybe. We were in room 1204, so one from the end of our building floor facing the harbor. Maybe the room on the end - 1205 I think - had a bed that faced the other direction, but ours faced almost entirely to a view of a building under construction!!! I was surprised since we had paid extra to upgrade to a Harbor View!

but ..... if you sit in the chair by the window, and face it just so toward the harbor (opposite the bed direction), and close the curtains a bit on the construction side, then you get quite a lovely view from this one seat of the goings on about and on this portion of the harbor. I enjoyed it! From bed however - blurgh.

Staff were all wonderful, very helpful. Feels like they are a bit understaffed, and working Very hard. Breakfast was great - get an omelette with no extra charge which is So much better than the scrambled eggs. Butter is cold and hard as a rock - always. Coffee is good. Oatmeal is superb.

Amenities good. Bed quite comfortable, but had two separate sheets top and bottom of quilt - that, of course, got all gobbledygook and one ends up snuggled next to quilt from who knows who the night before. Answer to this is to turn down the a/c and put the quilt in the closet. The bathroom mirror had a section that did not steam up - very cool! Shower massage on shower head was nice, but bathtub a little clumsy for shower.

Just be careful of your expectations for a harbor view room when you pay extra. Ask some questions before you book.

Awful, expensive 'date night' experience. I unfortunately left my new expensive swimsuit to dry on the hook of my rooms bathroom door, post-swim, the morning of checkout, and called a few hours after checkout to claim it. Staff said nothing was in lost + found and someone would get in touch with me. I had to contact the housekeeping manager a number of times myself to get any info. as no one got back to me. I was told the cleaner found nothing. This is unacceptable and untrustworthy. Clients property going 'missing' is not okay, even after checkout. A poor apology and no initiative to help recover my property only magnified the sub-par quality of this hotels service.
I also went swimming in their pool twice and contracted an ear infection (which I have never had before) from this. Advise caution.
I am local and will never return here and advise family, friends and colleagues to do the same.

Lovely room on 17th floor, no complaints. Awesome corner view, beautiful. We were able to make use of the pool and spa and were the only couple there (picked a good time) which was lovely. The best bed we have EVER slept in after a 10 1/2 hr train journey. The only complaint was the room service meal. Very expensive burnt meat patty burger and some burnt chips Lovely fish but burnt chips in partner's meal. Would've given 5 stars if not for that.

Arrived after a 6 hour car trip to be told they don't have any parking available and we would need to park our hire car 2 streets away and that it would be charged $4.50 by the hour. No assistance offered with our bags. We had to find our own bag trolley and take the bags from the car up to the room. No assistance offered with bags, no apology for lack of parking, no welcome to Wellington, no information offered about amenities, rude and unhelpful. Let's hope it improves. Will not be staying at Rydges again. Cannot believe they didn't inform us about their parking issue prior to our stay. VERY bad service.

I gave two star just one and only for the view, as we stayed in harbour view room.
Called the reception, restaurant, concierge like 20 times during 2N3D stay, Picked up twice.
Poor service and lack of current customer service update...
Went for dinner at sofitel, wow great service, knowing they are sister properties, shocked to see the differents.
Needed a massive update of infrastructure and hospitality.
