Worst ever. How this hotel gets a 4 star rating I will never understand. If I were picky I'd point out the poor housekeeping standard which sees a layer of dust on most surfaces and the broken microwave.....but really I couldve just lived with that and given a mediocre review. However the room service took things down massively. 2 and a half hours and counting after ordering and making a check up call with room service I'm still yet to see the chicken salad...yes SALAD!... I ordered for my dinner. I'm told my order was 'lost' on a busy night...fyi its Monday...the quietest night ever! It's now after 9pm and I'm still waiting! I'm told they wont charge me for it...frankly that's BS because really ...I just want my food!! I paid for it to eat it...you know at dinner time...when you eat! Worst hotel stay ever! Would not recommend if this is the way the treat their guests then I'm going to Macdonald's for breakfast!!!!!!

We stayed for 3 nights in a superior king room. The room was clean and the bed was super comfy, and the room was serviced every day. The location of the hotel is perfect for walking along the waterfront. The staff were friendly. The only negative was the sky tv signal kept cutting out which made it difficult to watch a film.

Third stay at this hotel in past 12 months always enjoy service and food at The Portlander this time served by Olivia who was happy and provided excellent service regularly attending to our needs
This visit i left in the room a Samsung tablet reception staff made it so easy when I phoned to see if it had been located, a huge thank you to housekeeping staff that handed it in and to reception for couriering it to my home address

Staff were lovely, BUT being served chargrilled lettuce with a side of margarine as a vegetarian starter is offensive. Keep up.

Comfortable stay and convenient location. Great to be able to cook. However the PGR membership is giving lots of hassle. It just went missing along with accumulated points. Still waiting for the fix

Very nice and helpful staff. For Christmas we were given the glass of milk and the cook made us two cookies to make Santa available. Bedroom with double bed for families.

Very happy there rooms clean and comfy and walking distance to train station govn house water front easy.

Rydges is a nice central Wellington hotel. The facilities are good, and staff friendly.

Our room wasn't ready for us at 330pm when check in was 2pm not ideal when we had 2 young children under 2 with us. The Male on front desk was rude and abrupt

Check in wait a bit long but to be fair the hotel was fully booked that night. Customer service was friendly and efficient Great room with harbours views. Clean room although someones leftover McDonalds drink left in fridge. No minibar or treats for purchase. Great beds. So comfortable. Pillows soft and varied. Heating took a bit to sort out but once sorted the room warmed up super fast. Cooked breakfast not as hot and varied as normal. Great customer service and wait staff at breakfast though.

Complimentary breakfast and has good views of the city. Within walking distance of food places and shopping.

Booked a room specifically because the website said it had a bath and it didn't have one at all... Also it was a windy night and although wind noise would be expected... What was not expected was the creaking of the walls when the wind blew... This was loud enough to wake us up and keep us wake for several hours.... Considering the cost and the misleading website... It was rather disappointing

Not as great as I was expecting. Curtains in the room did not close properly, also could not turn the aircon off.

Had a great stay in April. Breakfast was great, staff were friendly. Even offered to look after our bags while we did some shopping before going to airport.

Good quality hotel in the CBD. We had a corner room with views across the city in one direction and towards the seafront in the other. Short walk to shops, cable car and government buildings.

Bad service and the inexperienced manager argued with me when I complained.

Another great hotel to stay at when traveling to Wellington. It is central to everything, no need for your car whether you're on business or pleasure. The rooms are great, the staff are very helpful, and the restaurant and food is awesome. Thanks team!

The Rydges is a very comfortable hotel. The staff was fantastic and very helpful. The breakfast buffet is as advertised, one of the best I've had. So good we went two days in a row!

Went for a speaker session in the conference area. Good sized room for a very large group and nice catering.

Nice room, good food, comfy bed as you'd expect in a nicer Hotel. Good coffee...no complaints other than the spa pool being out if action but thats just one if those bad luck timing things im sure.

Great if you need to be central to the train station, or are attending wellington armageddon expo- will definately be booking again!

Nice buffet breakfast. Our room had a kitchenette and a safe. The room was clean and the bath room was big. Shampoo and conditioner containers were well labelled. The on-site gym was very small, but you could ask for access to a local gym. The location was good. The beds were good.

I stay here often for work trips. The rooms are are nice and the amenities aee sufficient. Portobellos restaurant on site is delishios though!

Stayed at Rydges for three nights and it was a very comfortable and enjoyable stay, made so by the fantastic staff who work there. From the front of house staff, the restaurant staff, room service staff, everyone was friendly, efficient and courteous. The breakfast was excellent with a wide range of food on offer. When I asked for soy milk it was promptly delivered, definitely staying again!

We stayed last 24 June 2019. Nice ambiance. Room is clean. Bed is very soft and comfortable. Food is great. Family friendly hotel.

Check in was not a great experience. Room was clean. Shower over bath. Food from the in house restaurant is nice. Wifi available. Sky TV.

Only visited the downstairs bar area one evening. It seemed smart and popular. Quite busy.

Went to Rydges for conference. Nice food but it was cold. Bit disappointing

Weren't told what floor we were on or how to use the lift so after standing in lift for a minute had to get out and go back to reception and ask.
While walking to our rm we were shocked at that state of the carpet, looked like it's actually never vacuumed and had many big stains.
Entering the rm there was a foul smell which we decided at the end of the stay it was coming from the drain in bathroom.
Expected a view but all we got was the side of a building.
No tea towel for the dishes or pen to fill out the room service.
No price list for mini bar.
Wasn't very clean, mini bar items dusty and microwave dirty.
Couldn't use we freezer as was totally full of ice needed defrosting.
No instructions for heater.
Came back second day to find a portacot in our rm.
Half our breakfast was missing and no butter for our toast.
There were only 1 out of 4 pillows with pillow protectors and both beds had no mattress protectors.

Beds were very comfortable, staff very friendly and food and service at the Portlander was excellent.

Nice hotel and great location. We stayed 2 nights and our room met all our needs. Was disappointed however that the sauna was out of order...that was the main reason I chose the hotel. Also found the valets took forever to get our car and we gave plenty of notice when we needed it. Also surprised to see the takeaway coffee cups from the restaurant weren't eco friendly or compostable which is disappointing.

Specifics:
Drop-off: very busy, my taxi had to double park to let me out.
Checkin: big line. Ended up going to the bar for thirty minutes to wait until it shorted only it never did! I was there at about 5pm so maybe that s their busy time.
Room: felt a bit dated but clean and quiet. Included small sink, cooking plate (but no cooking utensils), toaster, kettle, selection of teas and coffee, TV with sky.
Facilities: nice heated indoor pool and spa. Very small sauna (fits 2 people just) and the gym was completely hopeless. An exercycle and running machine which take up the entirety of the approx 5 square meters of floor area. Not enough room to roll out yoga matt or do stretching. I met another person checking it out who took one look and headed for Les Mills.

Restaurant: Breakfast buffet quite limited in selection and expensive $32 for what it is. I didn t try dinner there.
Staff: super friendly and helpful . Definitely made my stay pleasant.

Horrible customer service. Told me they had carpets available I said I'm going to get my car than come back 2min .when I came back older man at reception without checking said no carpark available than told me to comeback later.

A well located modern hotel in the heart of Wellington's central business district, very handy for parliament and only a short walk from the railway station. I am giving this hotel four rather than five stars as I felt the breakfast was a bit of a let down with limited options and the croissants were hard and stale. I had a steak in the Portland restaurant one evening and it was rather tough, certainly not worth the money, a shame as the breakfast and dinner at the Rydges in Christchurch were far superior. Another annoyance were the pillows on the bed, with a single one my head was too low and with two it was too high! The air conditioning was noisy and draughty and something of an afterthought. On the positive side the staff are friendly and helpful, the wifi works well and the rooms are a fair size with a good bathroom.

The Rydges have wonderful amenities and service.
Definitely recommend for families as the facility's are child friendly and accommodating.

Serves very good steaks and meats... the lamb pie is a must.. and 100 over types of whiskey..

Really nice hotel in a central location, close to seafront and easy walking to the Tram, botanical gardens and Te Papa National Museum.

Check in was not great I had to pay up front cause of ACC was paying for it they didn't believe me but allow us to stay the room was not clean there was hair in the bed a pubic hair on the side table lamp the dishes and the cutlery wasn't even wash at all bathroom wasn't clean soap scum in the shower on the floor we had a room that needed wheel chair accessable the cleaner was rude she didn't allow a wheelchair through she wouldn't apologies at all when the call came through from ACC that was accepted by them then we told them about our room still wasn't done it was not great at all the room service was great but the heater wouldn't work but there food was on point it was great just the cleaning wasn't I had a bad time there I would rate higher but cant.

Small overpriced dated rooms. TV & Heating issues. Shower in bath. Just not up to standard for 2020 price. Booked for 2 nights but only stayed 1.

cleanliness of bathroom wasn't up to standard, was quite gross. also was a weird frosted glass behind a curtain which could see figure of a person if they were in bathroom if curtain was open.
a little bit hard to find if your not from wellington, not much off street parking, parking was fully booked when we were down there so had to park 2 blocks up on the street cost was 50 dollars to secure we had a park for 1 night. breakfast from their restaurant wasnt too appealing, and coffee wasnt that great either. view was good though, but id recommend geting a balcony side view room. beds and pillows were amazingly comfortable, had the best sleep ever.

Love this hotel. This is my 4th stay. Small details like having the full range of sky channels, free fast wifi, delicious food and room service, balcony, I pod dock and so on.
All close to the centre.

It's always a good thing when all the staff are friendly but not intrusive, and all seem genuinely happy in their work and to make your stay comfortable - check-in and checkout was easy. Was only an overnight stay but we were lucky to have dinner at Portlander - delicious food and again friendly and knowledgeable staff - especially our waitress, I think her name was Molly, anyway she had the right balance of attentive but not intrusive. And she recommended a delicious wine for me so that's always a bonus! Room was great, no TV in the bedroom but that's not the end of the world.

Nice hotel,centrally located with good amenities. Probably a little over priced but to be fair so is most of Wellingtons accommodation. You won't be disappointed with the Rydges, just expect to pay for it.

Fantastic facilities. Awesome restaurant, a pool, sauna, spa. Kids menu at the restaurant is great. Breakfasts were amazing. Nice a close to the central city. Walking distance to most places within 15mins. Highly recommend.

Nice room with adequate kitchen area, just ask for more pots if you need them. The bed was comfortable. It is well positioned for the beehive and a 10 minute walk from te papa. Tip, if you are travelling with out children and you fancy a swim go early morning. Staff very helpful.

I dont recommend this hotel to anyone, and I will never stay here again . The workers here are rude, especially the General Manager Marcus, when asked a question instead of him answering it he has just brushed it off instead and ignored it and was told there are other priorities. I think this is terrible customer service, and I will never come stay here again nor will I ever recommed it.

Check in staff had little clue, even of their own rewards program and member benefits. Room made up next day and no towels left, took two calls and 40 mins before we could shower - not good enough! Hopefully tomorrow is a better day here at Rydges Wellington.
