Stopped overnight in Wendover on a road trip to Wyoming. The Red Garter was an easy walk from the KOA. Dinner was good but nothing special. The wait staff was cordial, but the service was slow.
Breakfast the next morning was the usual B-flat American fair. Inexpensive, but tasty and filling. Again the staff was friendly but the service was slow.
No coffee maker and a $50.00 deposit. I'm not Howard Hughes.
Although it has long been considered the "run down" or "scrub" of wendover, it has been renovated in recent years and is greatly improved. Also seems to have the loosest slot machines. Does still seem to have more technical interruptions and mishaps as well as less than amazing service and staff availability. But all in all very well worth it.
They should have more cooks and waiters..waited almost 1 hour and 40 minutes for breakfast. Ridiculous!!
We went in to try the all day breakfast special, and found it satisfactory if a tiny bit bland, (good news though, a variety of hot sauces were available.) The resteraunt was clean and tidy but sort of smelled like a fresh ashtray (not too surprising for a casino resteraunt, bit still dissapointing.)
Pit boss was very unfriendly and the roulette wheel is spun way too often, they hardly gave us time to place a bet, and getting a drink was nearly impossible.
The cafe tops the other casinos in wendover. Food is good and reasonably priced. We go there to eat first then play a bit.
We went for breakfast after the Sun Tunnels.. Rainbow buffet was closed. Had breakfast special at the Red Garter. It was yummy and the bill was 8.53!!! Left a 6$ tip cause Juan was excellent server and saved us $ by giving us biscuits instead of our toast and sides of gravy! :)
All they want you to do there is gamble, no entertainment. The rooms were really nice though.
Astronomical price, the restaurant was so bad food not ultimate service lacking walk out!
The red garter has great beds and the casino is nice as well.
Salad was wet iceburg lettuce with tasteless dressing. The prime rib had lots of gristle, the vegetable was a bowl of corn with a few peas in it and we were supposed to receive bread but "we're out right now" when we asked for it.
A awesome relaxed place and services were great and the employees were awesome!
The Red Garter Hotel Casino had a facelift a few years ago as part of it's relationship with the Nugget casino in Wendover. It is not at the same ambience level as it's neighborhood competitors but remains a fun place to stop and play. Many newer slot machines are added regularly and the redecorated restaurant has improved it's budget menu. The Garter doesn't have all the trappings of it's larger neighbors. Sometimes a less glitzy casino is the better choice. In Wendover - that's the Red Garter.
Very inexpensive, basic creature comforts. Not a lot of frills, but good service from friendly staff. Casino cafe- style restaurant is not anything to write home about.
An good hotel that is reasonably priced. Was clean - I cleaned myself due to COVID and the room was already pretty clean.
Restaurant was mediocre, but passable for mid week.
The staff was always friendly and helpful.
Bed was very comfortable, shower pressure (and height!) Was good, the door was a little off though so it wiggled alot and let light in from the hallway. Overall very pleased!
Smallest of the casinos. Close quarters. Very smoky. Outside looks great inside not so great
I have been there twice, and liked my experience both times. We walked in with no reservation and got a room no problem was little over $50 for weekend day. Second time i booked my reservation online and had no trouble at all, with doing so i got a cupon for a good discount off the room. I took it with me they had my reservation, we checked in and the rooms were remodeled and way nice,Bit small for single bed. But i enjoyed it and it only cost me $30 total for a saturday night.
I do have to say my first time gambling there i loved it made over $400 it was great, though the second time i unfortunatly lost it all there. Only suggestions update you machines a bit some were glitchy screens and wouldnt take the cash or dispense, alot of problems there!
This was decent enough for spending the night at one of the lowest prices in the area.
Awesome, looks great with the renovations of course it's been years since I've been there so I dont know when they did that. Restaurant is awesome.
Casino seemed nice. Big area with smaller sections cut out
Trucker discounts galore I love coming here and well lit parking lots
Stayed last night had alot fun won little money. The staff especially one gentleman made our visit. He was friendly funny. Will return hope to see him there again. Nice place. Loved our room
So..so this time... one night at a trucker night. Clean room, good shower. But, TV only received 5 channels, A/C unit made noise when it shut off....
It was very nice clean rooms, many of the machines were under maintenance though
Old needs renovation. Need better air circulation in the casino. Machines are tight
Very inexpensive for a clean updated motel and polite staff
Ate dinner in the restaurant and had the 10 oz ribeye with baked potato and vegetable. The steak tasted good, but looked like road kill. The thinnest ribeye I have ever had. Other than the looks the good tasted good the steak was cooked to order.
This was the only hotel left that had any available rooms for Saturday night. The price was 140.00 but if you booked an online reservation the price was 107.00 plus taxes. Still a joke as this is Las Vegas prices for their cheap rundown motels. And do not have breakfast there, as it was very poor quality, hash browns we're thin and super crisp difficult to chew and the bacon was heat and serve, dry and powdery yuck. The gravy was bland as my husband had a chicken fried steak that was just full of breading. Please just bypass this place if you can. They do not deserve your business or your money. But hey good luck. If your really tired the rooms and bed is okay. Gambling sucks so move on .
I had awesome time at the red garter but they need to fix the other machines it's not the same going to the red Garter
Never again! I'd go negative if I could. Staff wasn't helpful In fact, everything I asked of them was like I was putting them out. Nobody was happy. Prospector cafe was out of everything on the dessert menu, didnt even have whipped cream for the brownie sundae that didnt have chocolate sauce and most appetizers were out.
What a joke the rooms dont have coffee pots, microwaves or fridges unless you get a suite.
This was my 50th birthday and I'll never get it back...thanks Red Garter.
Hard to win any money, the bed was too firm but the food was great
Red garter is a great and newly updated hotel for someone who wants a quiet inexpensive stay. Rooms are updated as well
The event was great and a good deal for pricing. Did alright gambling as well. My friend got a room there and said they were awesome. Good experience.
This casino is small but very enjoyable. I love the food at the prospector cafe.
I was very impressed with my room definitely cleaner and nicer than the major hotel i stayed in down here before especially for the price.
Receptionist didn't know that there wasn't an elevator to the second floor. We were sent on a wild goose chase to find our room, because she didn't know where it was. Our father whom is walking with a walker, and is on oxygen had to go up two flights of stairs to our room after we were walking all over the hotel in the wrong direction first, because of it. Service sucked for an expensive room!
We decided to try the restaurant today 9/9/19 after almost a year due to horrible service and food we were seated I noticed was mostly same employees right away I thought not good idea the waiter went by us twice in 12 minutes said just min then he took our order said they were busy and we had to wait 15 to 20 minutes tell the order would be up I said no way and left what a horrible place horrible service never will I go there again and we counted only 5 tables when we left who ever manages that place needs some customer service training to pass on to the worst ever employees
Won a little and the restaurant is good and reasonably priced.
I've always loved the Red Garter in the past, because it was the tiny casino that wasn't affiliated with the other ones. Now they've done some remodeling, and it's no longer the dark, smoky place that it once was, but now it's a pretty awesome, modern casino. It's affiliated with the Wendover Nugget. They have a great breakfast buffet at their cafe, and a Beans and Brews, and a bunch of other features. The Wendover casinos are all strange, but this is one of the least strange.
The slots seemed really tight and it was hard to get drinks.
Slots was a complete rip off.
100 dollars on penny slots and not one win.
I'll never go back to the Red Garter again.
It won't let me give them 0 stars, but if I could, I would! I made a gmail, just to let everyone know how much I hated my experience! When I first got there I had no towels in my room, and it was about 85 degrees in there. So I called the front desk and the way they answered, "YES??".. Um is this the front desk? "Yes, what do you want" so I told them I had no towels, the A/C wasn't working and my room had crumbs all over. All they said was.."OK" and hung up. I went down and was reassured I would get the A/C taken care of and some towels. So we left and came back at about midnight to NO towels and a room that was still 85 degrees! I called down and they told me they couldn't help me. I didn't get an ounce of sleep and actually ended up propping the door to the hall way open to try and get a breeze. I would've been better off in my car! And to top it all off, the next day at checkout (with no shower and super sweaty) I complained to the manager and all she said was "I can give you $10 off".. I was furious, and from the 20 minutes I stood there waiting for a manager, it sounds like I wasn't the only one with that experience. I will never go to that place again! What I recommend if all the rooms at the other hotels are sold out; sleep in your car!
Rooms have all been remodeled are clean and very nicely done with new TV's a nice touch. Food was fantastic as was the service.
the red garter is awesome staff is very friendly the rooms are clean the food is good and the gambiling is great
The carpet in the restaurant has more grease on it than the fryer. I've seen 30 yr old carpet in bars cleaner than this.
Red Garter was a decent casino. I can tell they are in the middle of a remodel to try and modernize the place, still needs some work on the interior. Still a pretty good hotel and casino though. Making big improvements from the last few years.
Hot food cool, food took to long to come. Peach Cobbler, wasn't heated and the portion was to small . Waitress was unattentive, her attitude sucked!
Upon arrival the toilet was clogged and the tv was falling off the wall. Asked to be moved to a new room got attitude from 2 of women at the front desk. The second room we were moved to had issues with the tv and remote. Will never stay here again!! Unfortunately all the other hotels are booked.
Casino was eh.. was way too hot in there. Room seemed updated and there were no issues in it. Left that casino to play at a different one. Front desk check-in/out staff were friendly and fast.
Comfy bed and enjoyment even during a pandemic to still have some freedom to be up and about!!
We came here for a birthday dinner at the Prospectors Cafe. They had delicious food at a very reasonable price. I loved the privacy offered by the high sided booths. The casino itself could have been better ventilated, but it doesn't seem to filter into the restaurant much.
Have always gone for the breakfast special, now you have to ask not advertised. Service was hectic, restaurant not clean and not what I remember.
Rooms seemed a little small. Cheap food that always tastes great
Dark, dingey and none of the group of 6 of us won a thing. Won't return here.
Really dark dreary casino . it smells really moldy which is overwhelming when you walk in. No one is friendly or smiling that works there. The mold has got to be making the workers sick and why the heck hasn't the health Dept shut them down. If I can be overwhelmed by the smell instantly why are they still open. In this case it feels like its not what you know but who you know. Mold can kill people ...do something about it Red Garter. I had a friend die from mold at 38 years old . they are never crowded and I am sure mold is why.
I was shocked it was a very nice and clean environment loved it
The rooms were very nice for the price. Looks like they were remodeled in the last few years.
