If you love art, this is the premier place to go in Toronto. They have an extensive collection of art on display (and many more important works in storage). Plan to stay for the day. Paid parking or easy access by transit/subway.

After waiting in a long line for the washroom, I was ushered in with 3 other people only to find out that a Japanese woman had filled the bathroom with mirrors and lights, effectively rendering it useless, and then they forced us to leave within 30 seconds!

I love the AGO. I have been to some of Toronto's big tourist attractions, such as the ROM and the Science Centre, but the Art Gallery is still my favourite, and I'm only more confident about that each time I go there. The gallery is clean, easy to navigate, and in the times I've been there, there are always people ready to hand out maps to visitors. All of the artwork is laid out in a very neat and visually pleasing way. There are more than enough places to sit, as well as a children's play area and a lovely cafe. No matter whether you are a tourist visiting Toronto or a local bringing family, friends or a date - the AGO is perfect for any occasion.

Nice collection of European and North American art. When they advertise artwork by a well known master, it is usually a handful of paintings, sometimes just exactly two to justify the plural in "paintings" from x or y. Their contemporary art is usually a disappointment.

Toronto Museum.
The admission is free once a week, so if there is no resistance to congestion, the timing is recommended.

I stopped to see the exhibit Impressionism in the Age of Industry, and it was exquisitely curated. The main wall at the start, telling the tale of what was going on in the social and political scene paired up with the art time line was very well done. It placed the period and works in context. Thabk you.

Amazing guest artists. Watch and see who the featured artist or artists are for the month. There is something for everyone you just have to check before you go as different people are featured at different times. Check website for prices, as there is double even triple prices to see each artist on each floor depending on how big the exhibit is. Real great for the kids and all ages if you watch for the right artist... usually a must see for anyone making a trip to this amazing city we have .

Over the course of many years, a membership that allowed an accompanied person or two separate ones were purchased. The cost is so reasonable. One is gifted to someone special who has always been culturally inclined and multi-talented in the performing arts.

The feeling of privilege ensues as we leisurely enjoy a sumptuous lunch at the Norma Ridley Member's Lounge. My favourite table faces the park. The CN Tower is precisely in the middle of our view.

The assorted offerings and service are outstanding. One could sit on one of the multitudinous comfortable seating places including a chesterfield while savouring a specialty coffee or loose leaf tea and relax whilst hidden away from the maddening hustle and bustle. Fine priceless art adorn the walls. One never feels rushed. What a great atmosphere!

Also many excellent dining experiences are available at the main dining room called Frank's. It is so named due to the fact the Toronto-born, world famous, Frank Gehry is the visionary architect who is the amazing individual whose incredible ideations and unique perspectives including the asymmetrical spiraling wooden staircase brought so many new visitors to the Art Gallery of Ontario.

After all this being recited, it is the start to our wonderful viewing of special exhibits or wandering from one gallery to another.

A stop at the gift shop is de rigeur. All is throughly pleasurable. Worldwide tourists come to visit our reknown light-filled cultural institution.

As it is in our very own backyard, it is a destination one must include in our 2020 calendars. Experience the best works of varied art forms inclusive of many eras. You will be thrilled to have done so.

If you have already attended, another visit is sure to please.

Had fun at the exhibit! Lost my debit card and they were able to secure it within seconds. Coat check gentlemen was extremely rude. Didn't give us any time of day, though of us like a number. Told us to hurry up. Very unprofessional and unhappy with the service. Won't be using it again!!

Here is amazing stuff for everyone. From the ship models in the basement to the jewel-like ivory boxes on the first floor, from the Rembrants to the modern Canadians upstairs, this medium sized museum offers a large sample of the world's art. I went recently to view a large exhibit of Inuit art, which was fantastic.

On this Boxing Day visit we had lunch at the AGO restaurant prior to going to the special exhibit, Anthropocene ( closed Jan. 6th) We were a group of 5 and the small plates brunch menu had something for everyones taste and appetite. The price point fit the quality of the food and the lovely ambiance of tbe restaurant. It was a chillyday so it was lovely to have lunch and move directly to the exhibit. The AGO never disappoints but this exhibit was particularly impressive.

In my opinion this the best art gallery in Canada in terms of exhibits (compared to Calgary, Edmonton, and Saskatoon). The quality of artwork on display would rival top tier European galleries. Definitely worth the cost of admission.

Great gift store. The place was dead only students and teachers roaming around sounding intellectual. Galen Weston poured a few million into it which helped keep it open. The exhibits are decent and interesting enough. The membership price is great if you plan on going more than once a year. Which you should. Parking is a nightmare so take public transit but what out for crazy people.

I visited AGO in November for the first time and was awestruck by the magnificence of the Gallery. I saw the Early Rubens exhibit and was nearly in tears at the beauty of his works. I am a painter so I view paintings with an eye for color, technique and subject representation. Currently planning another trip to AGO specifically to see the Picasso exhibit. The citizens of Toronto are so very fortunate to have this gallery and the excellent curators there. Thank you for making my visit to your lovely city extraordinary! I am from Mississippi, US.

The travelling exhibitions are world class and is the reason I am a member. The permanent collection is second class. The coffee bar on second floor is a beautiful space well worth a visit by itself. The restaurant in the museum is an excellent lunch spot.

Right in the center of the City of Toronto. Very accessible and kid friendly features. Cool looking building designed by the esteemed architect Frank Gehry. Contents of the museum is a bit lackluster in comparison to the building.

Anthropocene exhibit was incredible. Thoughtful and fun experience of sore subjects beautifully presented. Spent so long here only had time to revisit Group of 7 works which are always evocative. The gallery is a cool place to hang out too with unusual architectural details and coffee and food available. Wish I could go more often

This gallery is named in the British tradition, which is to say it's actually a very large museum filled with Old Masters, contemporary works, and Canadian art including extensive Indigenous holdings. Especially noted for Group of Seven and related artists, plus a large suite of specially-housed Henry Moore plasters. A recent update by Frank Gehry added architectural beauty to complement the classic interiors of the original buildings. In addition to the vast array of treasures on display from the permanent collection, there are frequently changing exhibitions and, usually, a separately-ticketed blockbuster show. Hobbyists take note- there's a charming display of model ships on the lower level.

The entire AGO itself, literally and metaphorically, is a work of art devoted to the grand experience of experience itself, housing within it all manner of emotions waiting to be induced brought to life by minds of all corners of the globe and all moments of history. And I can say for certain it inspires young artists to continue to create for the future; I cannot tell you how many bright-eyed invested youths I see pull out their sketchbooks and notepads or just generally breathe in the majesty of whatever treasures they find in its walls; I know this because, beside all else, I am one of them. Thank you, AGO, for everything.

We enjoyed coming here and seeing different artists' works. Lots to see and the architecture of the building itself is very unique. It's fun walking up the spiral staircase and enjoying the view.
The staff were a little rude to us, treated us brusquely.
