I really was excited about this company because they found me such a great rate to refinance my car. I thought I had waived the gap insurance and sure enough they still added it. When I called to remove it, I felt like I was bullied and they tried to prevent me from removing it. Finally they agreed to email me the form to remove it. I never got an email. So I called back but requested not to talk to the original person who bullied me last time. The last lady I spoke to was very kind and helpful and I appreciated that. I would still recommend using them if you need a lower rate but I am pretty disappointed in how I was treated when trying to get rid of my gap insurance.

applied through Lending Tree. Received multiple offers to refinance my vehicle. Rategenius called and left a message and a text. I texted back and asked if they would call me tomorrow morning. "Sure thing, talk to you tomorrow". Two days later and no phone call. I'm a stickler about following through when you say you are going to do something. I'm done.
I applied on a Saturday got an approval email monday with my lending officers info. He calls me while I m at work to discuss my loan. I was busy so I asked if I could give me a call back in 10 minutes. He said no problem. I called and he didn t answer. I left a message and also text and emailed him. He texts me the next day saying sorry about not getting back with me and asked when would be a good time for me to call him. I told him a time and he said sounds good. I call at the time I said I was going to and still no answer. The phone doesn t even ring. It goes straight to voicemail. I ll take my business somewhere else.

Rategenius processed my auto refinance quickly, but requested I send my title to them via UPS. I sent my title and NEVER received it back!!!! I followed up with the loan officer. He said it was mailed back to me. I asked for the tracking number, the loan officer told me he didn't have a tracking number because it was sent via snail mail. WTF?! 3 months later and I still don't have my title!!!

Don t use them. They will affect your credit score, misleading info, they do not disclose all the components of the loan upfront before signing. I can t believe they have good rates, this is due to marketing but in terms of fair practices, they are by all means questionable.

As far as RateGenius, the experience was fantastic. The parts that were less than satisfying had nothing to do with them; just the laws in place when it comes to refinancing vehicles that aren t titled within the state that you live in currently. But they helped me save money on my payment every month, and thanks to them, I don t have to make a car payment this month!

Overall the experience was good and very easy. The only thing that bothers me is they sent the contract with GAP insurance already in the payment and the financing without discussing this with me prior to loan signing. When I signed the document stating my wish to decline the optional insurance, I was told it would cause a delay in the paperwork. I signed the GAP insurance and had to send a cancelation request.
When they sent me a letter about a loan they didn't just use their name but use a tangible bank so you would think that the bank is offering you a credit. I went to the bank and they had no idea what the letter was about. Rate Genius is very deceiving and would not recommend it to anybody.

The only issue I had - and it's really not an issue - is that when I had additional questions I felt like I was bothering my agent. He would answer my questions, but he was very short and not personable.. I guess it's more of a personal issue. I like to know who I am working with, but keeping it completely professional worked just fine. Great experience. Saved thousands on my loan by refinancing 3% lower.

Our agent only sent texts every week or so. He couldn't be bothered to return calls or email. When we couldn't reach him, we called his boss. She never answered a call, either. After THREE MONTHS our loan still was not refinanced, and our RateMoron agent asked if we wanted to request an extension to keep working on the deal. No - we just want you to finish the loan.

Do not work with James Scherwitz! I can't say he was helpful during the process; he just did his job. The bad experience came after the close of the sale and he received his commission. I was suppose to receive something things that I did not get and instead of apologizing for the miss understanding he argue with me (via email) telling me he was absolutely right and that he did inform me of this information. And suggested it was my fault since he didn't hear from me for a few weeks (because of an emergency sickness in my family). I told him I will not go back and forth with it, it wasn't major and a simple apology would've been fine. Even if he was right (which he was not) you don't treat customers in such a way especially if you're looking for repeat business.

I refinanced my car loan through RateGenius and it was a fairly simple process after I sent in and signed multiple documents, one document including my car title. It has been three months and I still do not have my car title back. Once you complete the process your loan officer will NOT return your calls and customer service will continually give you the run around as to where your title is. I have to register my car within the next few weeks and do not have the title to my car. This company is a joke. I highly advise you to refinance through someone else.
Simple and straightforward process! My loan officer Alexander was friendly and informative through all of the application steps and provided quick communications. I ultimately decided to hold off on refinancing at this moment (through no fault of RateGenius!) but wouldn't hesitate to return once I'm ready to shop for rates again.
