One of the greatest art institutions in London, with a wide range of exhibitions changing throughout the year. In the summer there is also an exhibition where a mixture of young and famous artists can showcase and sell their art. It is advisable to book any exhibition in advance.

Great exhibition, I am sure, if one can see past the crowds. We had the misfortune to book the date and time the Queen was there and, although we had previous warning of an event and that we might be delayed, I do wonder if the number of visitors was reduced to allow for this. We postponed our visit to the afternoon, and it was far too crowded to take in the pictures properly, and we were disappointed. Our 2-day stay in London was planned round visiting this exhibition and we could not change our plans at short notice.

I am never disappointed with the quality of the exhibitions at the RA. Not only is it a gorgeous historic building, but they always put on a great show. I was blown away by the David Hockney exhibition and the recent Sensing Spaces. Definitely book in advance as the queues can be a little crazy.

For the website ...

Get a grip - the RA website is, at best, mediocre. You represent Art and artists - it should be a beacon of excellence.
The virtual video of the Gauguin & Impressions Exhibition is dire. If you can't do any better then please just show the paintings full on not off to the side and out of focus!
Sorry!

Amazing venue with very special exhibitions. It's amazing how much work goes into preparing some of the rooms for exhibitions. I recently saw Anthony Gormley's exhibition and one of the room they spent 1.5 years preparing to hold a 17 ton steel apple from the dome.

I booked tickets in advance to see Bill Viola and Michalengelo's: 'Life Death Rebirth' exhibition.
Absolutely astonishing videos by Viola were partnered with Michalengelos drawings which were on loan from HRH.
Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele's drawings and works were also being displayed on the floor above.

I have never enjoyed a day more than on my first visit to Royal Academy in June. I ncredible works of art and a real insight to the Summer Exhibition. I am sure Joshua Reynolds would have a smile on his face of he could see how it has developed over the year. I may even considr becoing a Friend of the RA.

Came several time for the summer exhibition and other events. Very convenient location, well curated art works. It's not as large as the national museum so naturally it gets busy sometimes. Overall is good and the gift shop has some interesting items.

I had the misfortune of buying a cup of coffee and a slice of walnut cake in the RA Poster Bar on Thursday. The coffee was satisfactory, but the cake had definitely seen better days. It was stale and hard, a bit like sawdust set in a cement matrix and embedded with walnuts, reminiscent of one of the works of Phyllida Barlow RA. I understand that it was both vegan and gluten free. I should at least be thankful that they shelled the walnuts before putting them in the cake. A complaint was met with sympathy, but no refund.

Financially independent of Gouvernment grants, the RAA provides a school for artist, superb exhibitions (buy the membership) and stunning public spaces to enjoy! In 2018 a lecture theatre will open and Burlington House integrated, providing more space.

Went to visit the Monet "Garden" exhibition which was well organised and curated.

I wish I could say the same about the catering. The coffee shop on the ground floor to the left seemed disorganised mid afternoon and when we asked when they closed were told 4:30. Speaking later to the catering manager he said it was 5:30. Confusion.

Nice gallery in lovely Burlington House. Lots of rooms with tonnes to see - loads of places to eat nearby and good transport links. Had a great couple of hours looking at the Soviet exhibition. I would always plan to be there for two hours if I were you.

One of the best exhibition of Antony Gormley.

One of the best exhibition of Antony Gormley.
The exhibition was presented in the Royal Academy, London, 21 September-3 December 2019.
Following in the footsteps of Ai Weiwei and Kiefer, Antony Gormley occupies the main galleries with a series of works that test the dimensions and light of RA's architecture.
The exhibition explores the vast use that Gormley makes of organic, industrial and elemental materials over the years, including iron, steel, hand-beaten lead, seawater, and clay, to then highlight the first rarely seen works of the years the 70s and 80s, some of which led the artist to use his body as a tool to create art, as well as a selection of his notebooks and drawings.

Interesting exhibition about a contemporary artist, Antony Gormley. A visionary artist who uses his own body for the casts of his works. They say that you study the relationship between body, soul and surrounding space. It lasts until 3 December 2019.

There is a nice cafe in the courtyard, but the prices are shockingly high for what you get.

Great art in a great setting. The shows are fabulous. The current show is well curated. The Schjerfbeck exhibition is well worth a visit. Also visit the other galleries. Plan on at least two hours.
