I had the misfortune of buying a cup of coffee and a slice of walnut cake in the RA Poster Bar on Thursday. The coffee was satisfactory, but the cake had definitely seen better days. It was stale and hard, a bit like sawdust set in a cement matrix and embedded with walnuts, reminiscent of one of the works of Phyllida Barlow RA. I understand that it was both vegan and gluten free. I should at least be thankful that they shelled the walnuts before putting them in the cake. A complaint was met with sympathy, but no refund.
