Doing very well in unusual circumstances. Great Gauguin exhibition.
Doing very well in unusual circumstances. Great Gauguin exhibition.
Usually, vernissages are held here, that is, exhibit a variety of works in different genres - almost all of them are sold. Oddly enough, this approach allows us to find out what is on the market for the art and what are the trends. You can go wander for an hour
I went to the RA with 2 fellow students from my MA course to look at the exhibition, and one of the guards had the nerve to follow me from room to room like I was going to steal. I was the only person of color there and she made it very obvious that she was watching me and making sure that I specifically didn t do anything. This is completely unacceptable and in 2020 the fact that this is occurring is deplorable. I am truly ashamed and disgusted with the RA and the fact that they would ever let their guards do something to their patrons. Apparently non-white people are not welcome, stay away!
Having stayed in a number of different hotels in London for business,I have finally found my hotel of choice! From the moment I arrived to the moment I left it just felt like a warm and comfortable place to be. It was so nice to be able to go for a swim after a long day of travel & work...
Valuable information about historical facts, nice gift shop, interesting architecture of the building.
The Matisse in the Studio is an excellent exhibition. I would recommend it to anyone.
There are a lot of special exhibitions to see, but of course there are many free galleries, so it might be a burden to sell it.
the exhibition delighted me and my friends. Wonderful!!!!
Just been to Dali/Duchamp exhibition and very poor don't recommend.
Delightful. Inspiring. Educational. Friendly. Informative. Saw Joseph Cornell exhibit here twice it was that good. Beautiful galleries and architecture. Fantastic gift shop for art lovers and Christmas shoppers. Great coffee/tea shop and seating in courtyard. Wonderful shops and dining nearby. While strolling the area and perusing Google maps I was tickled to discover I was standing at the geographical center of London. <3
Great ambience, great spaces. Highly recommended: Summer Exhibition !!
The Royal Academy of Arts is a great institution and definitely one of the best art galleries in the UK. Most of the exhibitions are not free but they are definitely worth it they are world-class exhibitions, the perfect example was the Charles I: King and Collector the and the summer exhibition is just exceptional.
The exhibitions tend to get a bit busy; however, try to go early in the morning to avoid all the crowds. The building is also a work of art and located in the heart of London to access other great parts of town.
Absolutely goes out of its way to make itself inaccessible for families. Snobbish and unhelpful staff.
RA - what a fantastic institution with such varied exhibitions! Absolutely love this place.
Love, love, love the RA. Just when I think it could not outdo one of its exhibitions, the RA goes and outdoes itself again. I try to go to each exhibition at least twice. Summer Exhibition is a must, ignore the petty, baseless newspaper reviews.
I advise visitors to take along oven gloves and a dishcloth if planning to take tea in the members' cafe here. The handle of the iron tea pot is too hot to hold while pouring and then a large proportion of the contents will pass into the saucer instead of the cup so the cloth will be needed at this stage.
Yesterday, with my business Immersive Theatres, I delivered 2 x 5m digital planetarium experiences to a total of 630 guests at the 'RA Lates: Cosmic Ocean' event at the Royal Academy of Arts. My colleague and I were warmly welcomed by the staff and found the Reynolds Gallery prepared just as we had requested. The evening was well organised with RA staff managing the large crowds expertly and efficiently. Enthusiastic guests enjoyed learning about traditional Polynesian navigation in one dome and being immersed in a dazzling coral reef in the other. Thank you Royal Academy for a very memorable visit.
Always some good exhibits on, have seen loads of the great artists, architects and designers here over the years as well as the Summer shows which are brilliant. The building is also really impressive and in a great location.
The J.John's show is amazing if you like American art from the 2nd half of the 20thc. Its a big show and requires either a long visit - 2hrs minimum, or probably better: a 2nd visit!
Go to the Summer Exhibition every year. Always very good and interesting. Seen some other exhibitions here too, all very good. Such a great building.
The Royal Academy of Arts is an independent charity and does not receive government funding.
A great art gallery.Very spacious interior.Staff are friendly.Normally there is not that tourist or visitor. If there were any exhibition then this place became very noisy.Every week exhibition held here.Better to visit this place when there is a exhibition to enjoy the beauty of the Center.
The staff were very good at organising around Covid concerns, they were helpful and efficient. The summer show was well worth seeing.
Great exhibition but the main tickets office is very small and not very welcoming.
This is part of London. Fantastic exhibitions in a wonderful venue. This is art done properly. Must visit if in London.
Was there for the RA Late, masquerade. Excellent night. Lots to do, great music, great to get dressed up Highly recommend.
I absolutely recommend visiting. The collection is great (at least for the summer exhibition) and it is interesting to look at the prices of the operas and the offers they got. The building alone us worth having a look. Highly recommended.
Always a great exhibition in progress !!! But always different ...
Fascinating building and great exhibitions but it is normally too overcrowded; especially considering the entry fee is a bit high.
Allen Jones at the RAA is pretty cool. It's a bit weird, but it's quite quirky. A bit like objectifying women though, but if you can get past that you'll be fine. There are lots of colour and 3D representations of paintings.
The free portion is small but excellent. Some real treasures. Both contemporary and older. One downside is that there is no nursing room for mothers.
Went to a great free exhibition of photographs of old London buildings here a while back. There's always something interesting on, worth a visit if you're wandering by.
I used to come here especially when I was doing my A Levels (one in Art and Art History) many years ago.
I was in fact accepted at Southwark College of Art to do my Foundation course but I wanted to do English so spent a couple of years working (in Finance - as all my school friends did that!).
So...when I see an artwork I know the history behind many of the artists. I already had my first oil painting set at 12 yrs old - a birthday present.
I remember this art museum housing a very impressive collection of artwork and well...a coffee is a must for me.
The cafe is the first place I visit when I come here. It did a nice selection of cakes to go with tea. Coffee for me is latte anything but tea first !
Preferably with scones !
The cafe is a must (10++ stars).
Overall one of the best art museums to visit.
'Oceana' is BIG BEAUTIFUL art! Enjoyed my visit this morning. Took too many photo's! Highly recommended.
I recently visited OCEANIA exhibition which highlights the diverse, sophisticated and vibrant societies of the Pacific Islanders through their art and culture, past and present. Oceania area covers a third of the world s surface, there are thousands of volcanic islands and coral atolls. Pacific Islanders have been supreme sailors and navigators.
Great building, but exhibition is not too much impressive.
Favourite gallery/museum in all of London. There is always a well-curated exhibition on.
I attend the Bill Viola & Michelangelo exhibition I was, thoroughly captivated by Bill Viola 2001 Five Angels for the Millennium especially Angel 3 'Fire Angel'. I would recommend that you, make time to go to the exhibition you will not be disappointed.
Went to see Painting The Modern Garden. Fantastic exhibition, one of the best I've seen. A huge collection of paintings that was well organised and just seemed to go on forever. I will return to view it again.
Summer Exhibition 2020: I loved my visit to this in October 2020, the experience was greatly improved by the social distancing measures taken due to the Coronavirus epidemic. Limited entries meant the place was fabulously uncrowded and it was easy to progress through the artworks at a pace that is not normally possible. Less queuing, less craning, much more enjoyment of the art!
Excellent availability of sanitiser and a very clear visitor flow.
Brilliant!
Oh, and the art was really interesting too!
Extraordinary, in the center and with well-kept exhibitions. Congratulations on the exhibition dedicated to Renzo Piano: unique and magical anxhe for those who are not architects
Came for the Eco-Visionaries exhibition and stayed longer to see the other amazing exhibits including copies of works by Michelangelo and Rafael. Definitely worth a visit. Would be better if the cafeterias offered more vegan options.
Good for your help with you know what you know what you know what you know
Well organised given the current covid situation. Would visit again
We had a great time but a little crowded, and hard to grasp in the art with a huge crowd... that wats made in a 4 instead of 5.
The history of the Royal Academy of the English Navy and the fight against the Black Traffic.
This is one of the best galleries in London, housed in a beautiful building, itself worth a visit, full of treasures and always sporting some interesting exhibitions, besides its permanent collections. The current Reinassance Nude exhibition is beautiful, encompassing some of that era's greats, even sporting pages from Da Vinci notebooks. RAA Summer Exhibition is always a mix of fun, strange and interesting, grab a glass of wine and wander around. There are some cool cafes, bars and a restaurant on the premises, the most notable for nicer weather, a fern tree covered courtyard, where one can enjoy lunch or a coffee, and the beautiful Senate Room serves brunch, lunch and even afternoon tea in a splendid large high ceilinged room full of character.
There is a marble by Michelangelo on the second floor.
Lots of interesting exhibits ...
Depends on your taste
Always some good exhibits on, have seen loads of the great artists, architects and designers here over the years as well as the Summer shows which are brilliant. The building is also really impressive and in a great location.
Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2014:
Wasn't sure if I could take photos so didn't - my fave works were really whimsical and expensive. The ones there were really expensive also happen to be RA artists - and the stuff I like immensely but not enough to buy! Made me think that I am actually quite good at spotting a masterpiece or an investment piece.
The only thing is... I guess there is just sooooo much to see and it is hard to truly enjoy it as it's a sensory overload in some respects...
Also there is a random bar in one of the rooms serving wine and food - I guess to get people to relax and actually buy something - but I just don't get why you would pay for a print, "limited edition" but a reproduction all the same... please enlighten me...
Not quite the affordable art fair which it kinda is for art collectors - but good experience all the same.
The lecture about women and art MODELS AND MILITANTS was accessible for me as a deaf person as both live subtitler and a BSL interpreting lady provided all the words for us.
Well done RA. !
Excellent all-day symposium on the climate emergency. Photos from exhibit 'Eco-visionaries'.
It's a great place because I'm there to welcome you :)
A great exhibition by Antony Gormley. I could never imagine how a so heavy, stable and cold material as iron could give so vividly the impression of expansion, explosion, moving energy and life! Just amazed....
Great space, went for the Ai Weiwei exhibition and was really impressed. If you go to one gallery before year-end make it this one!
Hint: don't forget to pick up the free audio guides on your way in. They offer full commentary and background, with clips from the artist himself.
Always a good place to visit. Fascinating summer/winter exhibition. And not too busy.
One of the greatest art institutions in London, with a wide range of exhibitions changing throughout the year. In the summer there is also an exhibition where a mixture of young and famous artists can showcase and sell their art. It is advisable to book any exhibition in advance. The pictures I took refers to the Antony Gormley exhibition showcasing now (October 2019)
Great collections, could do with a few more options in cafe.
Generally beautifully curated exhibitions. For art lovers certainly a London must visit destination.
I really liked the artwork in this gallery, hoping to come here again
Brilliant, brilliant place. There's always something new (sometimes exciting) to see or participate in. Accessible and very central. Close to #picadillycircus and #greenpark underground stations and there are loads of buses serving the area. Loads of coffee shops, pastrie places including #FortnumandMason and, best of all [tea at] #theritz. Definitely recommend
Excellent exhibit on Ai Wei Wei, emphasizing his definition of Chinese identity against the backdrop of single party politics. Works mingle personal experiences with the government, to political activism.
Audio guides are provided, and security is present but non-intrusive. The event was slightly crowded at times, and lacked the intimacy that aids in viewing art.
Well worth the trip.
