My 73 year old mother had to go to the ER for extremely high and unstable blood pressure. This was her second time in this ER within the same month. The first visit, her care was good and the ER Dr. was very thorough, caring and concerned. This most recent visit was NOT so good. The Dr. In the ER, a Dr. Frederick Burke, was extremely rude and dismissive of her symptoms. He would not listen to the instructions she was given by her Cardiologist and gave her and my father false information regarding her heart health. He kept interrupting and talking over both of them and then proceeded to ask them multiple times if they understood what he was saying as if they were the problem. When her blood pressure and pulse spiked a nurse was concerned and went to get Dr. Burke who continued to dismiss her symptoms and sent her home. There was no attempt to monitor her heart or run any other tests. He indicated that blood pressure fluctuates constantly and none of this was a concern. Needless to say, the phone call to the cardiologat today confirmed Dr. Burke is no heart specialist. He should either go back to school or open his mind to the fact that he may not know everything there is to know about the human body. Thank the Lord that her blood pressure dropped and didn't continue to spike because this could have resulted in a major heart attack. The level of care here was below poor. The only reason there is ONE star is to enable me to write a review. They deserve ZERO stars. More specifically, Dr. Burke deserves the poor rating.

Excellent care when I was advised by my doctor's office to go to ED. Rapid heart rate. Was taken in quickly. Immediately had several personnel asking details, hooking up equipment and monitors. ED doc came in assessed situation, notifying medication that will be used and how it would affect me when administered. All taken care of and back to normal, released and sent home in less than 2 hours. Staff was kind and professional.

I was treated so poorly today in the OSF ED that I...

I was treated so poorly today in the OSF ED that I m just completely astonished at the disrespect and lack of care that was provided to me. I presented to the ED this morning with sever abdominal pain and vomiting. I typically go to Carle, but due to a switch in insurance I came to OSF. The triage nurse took me to my room asked a few basic patient related questions and walked out. Shortly after the doctor and my nurse came in. They asked me questions about my pain, and pressed on my abdomen and lower pelvic area. It was clear that the pain was primarily in my lower pelvic region. The doctor told me that they would run some test to rule out some things and then left the room.

I was in so much pain that I was vomiting. I was given no emisis bag and vomited in my bed. It was not until the phlebotomist came in and saw me getting sick that I received a bag to vomit in. She seemed genuinely concerned and was very kind. Shortly after that, my nurse came in told me she was giving me a shot for pain because I was not getting an IV. (I found that particular verbiage to be odd but didn t make anything of it) She then began to administer the pain shot that was to be given in my back. She asked me to roll into my side and when I did I felt a sharp stabbing pain that again made me feel like I was going to get to sick. I told the nurse that this particular position hurt extremely bad and she said well I m trying to give you something for it I can t do that until you roll over . I was so incredibly shocked at her tone and condescending manner. Heartless and no empathy at all. In the middle of me getting sick she went ahead and administered the shot in my lower back. Again I was just blown away. After that my mother who is a nurse at Carle called and asked me what my vitals were I said they did not take any, so she said she was going to call and speak to my nurse. My nurse came back in to collect a urine sample and I asked her if my mom could speak with her, she literally just gave me a blank stare so I said is that ok? Is it ok if she calls and speaks with you. And she said I mean I guess if that s what you want. She then directed me to walk to the bathroom. I could barley stand up right. It really would have been nice to have a wheel chair but I was not offered so I slowly crept down the hall to the restroom. When I came back to my room my mom had texted me and told me that she asked to speak to my nurse or me and was told that neither one of us were available. I could not believe that as my nurse was literally sitting at the nurses station when I came back from the restroom.

Shortly after that CT came to take me for a cat scan. I instantly broke down and felt comfortable to share with her that I felt as if my nurse was being kind. She empathized with me and apologized on her behalf and asked if I would like a different nurse. I said that I would really feel more comfortable if I did. My new nurse came and introduced herself she seemed very kind initially. When she was wheeling me back to my room, I overheard the nurses at the nurses station making comments about me requesting a new nurse. The chatter stopped when they saw me coming down the hall. Agai. I was appalled with the lack of professionalism my new nurse took me into the room asked how my pain was and I told her that it was not as bad as it was when I came in but definitely still present. Again I overheard my other nurse saying, I asked her how her pain was and she said she was fine which was clearly a lie.

The worse part of this whole story is that I got home and called my OBGYN, I was looking over my discharge paper work and noticed that they put vitals on my paperwork. Here s the scary part THEY NEVER TOOK VITALS! I was absolutely blown away. The lack of care and now falsifying medical information. I just could not believe this. I instantly called to speak with whoever was over their ER dept. She did not answer nor did she return my call. I called the ED and asked to speak with charge nurse. Again I was astonished when I stated about how my vitals were not taken.

Volunteeraly went in for mental health. The facility itself was clean and nice, and the nurses were very kind. However, the treatment plan I received, and the medication I was placed on, was the same as all the other patients I talked to, regardless of diagnosis. On top of this, I was assured many times that my insurance would cover all expenses, and to not worry about having to pay. Immediately after being dismissed I was issued a bill requiring me to pay ~$300 out of pocket. I was able to do that, but it still went against what I was told. There are no therapists that are willing to talk to you one-on-one everything is in a group setting and I feel like I was just drugged up I really needed to talk to somebody. I'm still struggling with several issues as of this day and I feel like I didn't get any real help. Places like this are why people commit suicide.

My elderly mother has been admitted numerous times...

My elderly mother has been admitted numerous times in the past five years for various reasons. Her care has usually been fairly good. It is clear that the nursing staff have more demands on their time than is humanly possible to complete. Understaffing was not the problem last week, when they loaded my mother into a cab dressed only in a hospital gown and diaper. They made no effort to contact a family member to inform us of her discharge. When I called to complain to her attending nurse, he told me that my mother had tried contacting us and nobody answered. My mother is no longer capable of reading a number and dialing it, something I had told the cognitive assessment "specialist" earlier that day. Her attending nurse justified releasing her in this condition by saying that she had been discharged and had to leave. It would have taken the same amount of time to call a family member as it did to call the cab. It is shocking that a medical facility could display such complete indifference to their patient's welfare, particularly an elderly person without the mental capacity to care for herself.

I had never seen such poor healthcare as I did at this hospital. My mother was a patient and being treated by neurology. The neurologist gave her different diagnoses during her 5 day stay and refused to listen to her or her family. We were sent home with my mother dragging her left leg and a two person assist. PT did not even evaluate her the day of her discharge and she had declined. No order for physical therapy but were told that they would set that up. Was also told that they would fill her medicine before she left, which they did not. I was told that meds were not filled and PT was not set up "because the doctors are unfamiliar with the computer system." I have also placed two calls to the patient rep but have had no follow up. We are from out of town and have used this facility for years but will no longer and will also discourage anyone else from using this facility.

Wish I could give it a 4.5. Last year, my wife and I had a child there and the care was good. The rooms were nice. Staff was helpful. What you would expect in a modern maternity ward. Three weeks later, my wife needed an appendectomy. Once again, surgeon and staff were good. There was some confusion about the antibiotics and how they might interact with breast milk, but otherwise no complaints.

I went into the ER for severe headaches. I was later diagnosed with "complicated migraines."
The ER was very quick in getting me seen. 1 star, but I have a whole list of complaints. I had an EKG test. The technician left my chest exposed for the duration of the test, while other nurses came in and out. I'm very sensitive to medications, and have a lot of known allergies. The medicine I received in the ER caused me to have a bad reaction, and made my headache worse. They did not tell me they were going to keep me over night, until one of the doctor's said "we'll see what the test say in the morning." They proceeded to keep me "hostage" for the next 2 days. Ran tons of test, thankfully stating I'm very healthy. I got 15 vials of blood drawn at 1 time. They took at least 27 vials during my "stay" at the hospital. Flash forward, I had a follow up appointment with a general physician 2 days after my stay. She declined to full fill the order to draw more blood, stating she felt it was excessive. The hospital ran treatments through out my stay, which I repeatedly stated were making my headaches worse. They did not tell me they were going to keep me a second night until I finally saw the neurologist late in the afternoon. The care on 7th floor was just terrible (with the exception of 1 nurse). It took over 2 hours to get water, over 4 hours to get an ice pack. My IV was constantly beeping. Several times it took over a half an hour to make it stop. I asked for information about the "medicine" they were pumping through my body, and didn't receive it until hours later. I was told I was going to see someone from financial assistance...they never came. I called financial assistance after my hospital stay...an application was never sent. The neurologist's bedside manner was terrible. I declined to take the medicine Topamax, and his response was condescending "that's fine if you want to suffer from migraines." Thanks! Super helpful Dr. Helfrich! I even said the "H" word...holistic. Boy, did I get looked at like I was crazy. I'm a therapist, and worked in an acute psych and chemical dependency hospital for a couple of years. I think I have the right to advocate for my own health...Especially since the hospital was not going to do so. I stated that I suspected my headaches may be due to a gluten intolerance and hormonal imbalance. This being the main reason why I did not want to start a regimen of harsh mind altering chemicals. Sure enough my suspicions seemed to be right. Eliminating gluten has help immensely! Recently I started getting 3rd party doctor bills in the mail. Ethics? I was finally the cover letter to the financial application, but not an application. I'm still waiting on the application. I called today, again. I've called several times to complain about my hospital stay, and have not heard back. To top it all off, my significant other stayed with me for the duration of my visit, and ended up covered in bites. We suspect it was from the recliner he slept in. The bites did not appear until the last day, and he showed the nurse. The manager of the floor suggested he go to the ER. I did not get bites, but we spent the following Christmas week, cleaning, checking for bugs, and loosing lots of sleep! We didn't have a bug issues before staying in the hospital, and luckily not afterwards. I've been patience and courteous for far too long. I do not recommend this hospital at all!

My wife and I would highly recommend OSF. We've had three babies delivered here and are very impressed with the care we've received. I admit to some partiality in this judgment but Dr. Susan Cooper/ Morphew is the best OB GYN Dr you will ever find. Her care and knowledge is superior in every way. She is very gracious, courteous, personal and yet very professional. We also have high respect for the nurses here. One of our three babies was stillborn and we are very very grateful to the staff here at OSF for the way they helped us through that experience and for their overall care and service. Thank you Dr Cooper and the rest of you at OSF!

Went into cardiac arrest two times between the emergency room in Danville and transporting me to Urbana. There are no words in the dictionary that could describe the level of compassion, help, kindness and professionalism that all staff demonstrated at both OSF facilities from the Doctors, nurses, tech's and managerial staff. Five (5) stars is not sufficient. I am thankful from the entirety of my heart for all your service and treatment.

The staff was friendly but it took way too long to get anything done or to even get a wash cloth. How can a hospital not supply you with towels. Do they expect you to not wash? When my husband (the patient) asked for water they brought him one 4oz bottle. Really??
The food wasn't very good. The cafeteria was expensive.

The cardiologist assigned to the case was great though. He explained things well and had a great bedside manner and humor.

The hospital is very old looking. The bathroom sink in the room had the enamel almost worn off completely in places. This place needs some serious updating.

I was scheduled for a direct admit to treat some side effects of my chemotherapy treatments. The admission process was efficient and I was in my room in about a half an hour. I was treated with fluids and medication from Friday evening until Sunday mid-morning. The RN s on Oncology 7 Laura, Jayne and Juan were all very helpful and caring. They not only made sure my care needs were met but that I was comfortable with my treatment during my short stay. I was treated like an individual human rather than just a number. Other facilities should take lessons. I don t enjoy being hospitalized but if the need arises again I hope I will be able to be treated at OSF Heart of Mary.

Apparently Provena will use 3rd party doctors on you without your knowledge when you go to get treated. These doctors are not under Provena umbrella and can be from anywhere. Worst part of it is if you are under a low income status and filed for financial assistance when you go to get treated, Provena will neglect to tell you that if by chance you get a 3rd party doctor, Your financial assistance is not covered and you will get a surprise bill from the 3rd party doctors frim/company. This is unethical and a bit scary.

The worst experience ever, twice, with kidney stone; the nurse Laura takes forever to do anything, about half an hour to put the IV and the second time she splashed blood all over my husband bed . They are extremely slow and it looks that the patient is another number, it is not treated as a human being.

I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY USES THE ER AT PRESENCE COVENANT MEDICAL CENTER. Went in and was treated very poorly. Never got my test results. Doctor came in for 5 mins and then left and never checked on me again. Got an IV put in wrong which lead to my arm swelling like a balloon. Finally after no test result and no one checking on me for 5 hours, I called for a nurse who wasn t on my case to be discharged and while being discharged I got a packet covering on the reason I went in there for and that wasn t even the right diagnosis.

My Dad came in thru the ER on a Sun. night. He was barely admitted but couldn't walk & ambulance had already been to pick him up after falling 4 times in 48 hrs. He ended up staying 10 days in hospital. Everyday he saw a different on call doctor, One doctor does not communicate with next, had unnecessary tests that did not consent to, nursing staff does not "tend" to patients in any way. My Dad needed help setting up his food tray, after telling nursing desk, writing it on his board, in his chart, it still didn't happen most days. He never got a shower, as he could not walk and was on oxygen. In the patient brochure it says the patient's family is responsible for basic needs of the patient, feeding, bathing, etc. This is just a travesty! What does one do if the patient's family lives across the country, like I do? My mother was not in any physical condition to "tend" to him 3x per day and does not drive. I would not recommend staying here at all.

Very very bad. Came in there was only me and one other person here. When trying to explain what was going to to the nurse they was just trying to get out the door.
DR.came in heard about half what I was trying to say. Said he will give me a few shots and had me waiting for three and half more hours. I asked. Nurses whats going on they said oh we almost have your paperwork done. I keep saying I still have not seen the DR. About the shots he wanted to give me.
This place is awful.

OSF is a joke. I wish I could give no stars.

OSF is a joke. I wish I could give no stars.
For the record, I gave birth to my second child when this hospital was still Presence and it was a smooth and comfortable experience. Today I called to register with the hospital for the birth of my next child and was transferred to 3 different departments before I was hung up on.
I went into early labor a few hours later. When we arrived at the ER at OSF the lady at the desk just looked at me and said, "Walk on up to Labor & Delivery. 3rd floor." No assistance, no wheelchair, no concern whatsoever. I'm very obviously pregnant, having contractions and toting 2 kids and a husband and no one seemed to want to help at all.
We get up to L&D and stand at the desk for 10 minutes while one nurse is on her phone and says, "I don't really work here I can't help you." The other nurse accepted a phone call that didn't sound urgent and talked for another 5-10 minutes.I finally asked if I could sit down or have a wheelchair and a third nurse appeared and took me to a room right in front of where we'd been standing. I sat there for 3 hours waiting to be discharged since my water hadn't broken according to a test they did a half an hour into my visit.
Can't wait to see this bill. I'm sure that's why they kept me there so unnecessarily long when it was clear they could've sent me home sooner.

Had to visit the ER while on a road trip vacation with family due to uncontrollable neck and shoulder pain. Always hate going to hospitals especially when you're so far from home, but were pleasantly surprised by our experience. The staff were fantastic and we were seen by a nurse and a doctor right away. The facility was clean and the staff were very professional. They worked with me even though I didn't have a hard copy of my insurance card. Very appreciative of the care we received and would highly recommend this ER.

I was sent to OSF for immediate emergency inpatient services for mental health. The facility itself was clean and nice, and the nurses were very kind. However, the treatment plan I received, and the medication I was placed on, was the same as all the other patients I talked to, regardless of diagnosis. Red flag. On top of this, I was assured many times that my insurance would cover all expenses, and to not worry about having to pay. Immediately after being dismissed I was issued a bill requiring me to pay ~$250 out of pocket. I was able to do that, but it still went against what I was told. Now 2 full months after my "treatment" I was sent a second bill, asking for another $2000! I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy, let alone someone struggling with severe mental health problems.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this place. I...

I'm not really sure how I feel about this place. I went in via the ER which was run down and drab. The staff was nice, but slow. I'm guessing from being short staffed. I was admitted from the ER for surgery the next day. After about an hour or so I was taken to my room, which wasn't to bad. Private and clean, however in need of a good facelift. The hospitalist didn't come in my room to talk to me until 12:15am. I guess he was that busy, but whatever. ( you can't honestly expect to rest in a hospital anyway). The restroom in the room did not have a shower. Only a toilet and a sink. It was so small you could almost wash your hands while you were sitting down. I was taken down to get an test down. The tech had the touch of an alligator and the personality to match. I was then left out in a room for someone to take me back to my room where I waited for about 45 minutes, as I was about to take myself back someone came tok take me. After talking to her I was told there were only 2 people to transport ALL the patients in whole hospital. The ER and the inpatient beds. That lady was running her butt off. When she got to me she was visible sweating. Over all, the staff is caring, compassionate, caring, and kind and do the bust they can with what they have. My husband and daughter were visiting me both days I was there. There was nothing on the floor for them to drink. Not even an ice machine, coffee, nothing. You can't get anything to drink from the nurse other than water. I understand these are small things but it's small things that matter when you already don't feel good. I've definitely seen worse medical facilities but this one is far from the top of the list.

Spent about an hour in the waiting room when no one else was there, which was expected but still ridiculous. Once I made it to the ER room I waited another 45 minutes for the doctor to come in. He proceeded to look my symptoms up on WebMD and tell me the wrong information about my condition. Furthermore, this doctor was incredibly rude and arrogant the entire conversation not caring at all about what I had to say. After the visit I received an absurd bill. Horrible visit to this hospital, go somewhere else if you can.
