Home more than average after reservation waiting in lobby entrance meal good without more service worthy of a classic brewery short 80 euros per head I understand the tourists
Let's start at the beginning: The setting is pleasant and full of history. The place where, it is said, the Phrygian cap was first worn. It is a place of memory, but also unfortunately a booby-trap for tourists, for romantics and lovers who are not very attentive. When you book, we try to impose a time slot on you. "Not possible at 8:30 pm, rather at 9:30 pm". As you want, despite everything, to dine at 8:30 p.m., you show up without talking about your reservation and there, to your surprise, the person before you had not reserved, but we find a place for him. Suddenly, you say in turn that you have not reserved, we find you a table too. Not as complete as that so at 8:30 p.m. So why impose a time slot?
You are installed. The waiters forget you. They come to see you 20 minutes after your arrival. No problem, you have the evening in front of you even if a little hunger helps to whet your curiosity to admire the menu. You decide to take a "Philosopher menu". A starter - Main or main course - dessert at 31.50 or then a starter - main course - dessert at 38.50 ... Finally with my partner-accomplice, also objective criticism, we opt for the main course.
Besides the poor and slow service, the servers are not very friendly. The kitchen however is ok. Just correct. The fish looked fresh. It's already that. Then came the moment of addition. Theoretically, if we had to count the two menus and the drinks, we would have had to pay almost 80 But the note exceeded, to our surprise, the 100 We were playing lovers. So we do not count when we are in love and, above all, we do not discuss a note. It would not be elegant. We settle without making comments. After having paid for the first time, another server came to demand a new payment. He had to be told that the "thing" had already been done. When you pay 50 for a small, insignificant - but correct - and a small, insignificant - but correct - dish, you are still entitled to demand better service. No ? Some smiles too. We will not leave a tip. And we will never set foot in this institution that is worth visiting ... from the outside only. I advise against !
The beef and pasta was one of the best meals I ve ever had, good staff good history
Edit from seven months on: Cafe Procope was the best meal I ve ever had, excellent service too. And it was a real treat as a history buff who loves both Napoleon and Thomas Jefferson.
It is located in the left-wing area, which traditionally served as the academic and cultural center of Paris. From Le Bour, you can take a stroll through the Pont Neuf bridge and walk around the alley. The taste of the food is a cafe with history and tradition that does not get a star in Michelin. It will be a great experience to have a meal together in the historical place where great people from Napoleon and other history books are there.
Absolutely deplorable service with long wait, and the waiter sent me my plate of wine rooster which was fatter than at a local bistro. All for a menu whose price suggests a quality meal. Too bad because the frame is very beautiful
A unique restaurant in Paris for many reasons: first of all, the beauty of the place, atmosphere both family and intimate, intimate and traditional, elegant and relaxed, excellent cuisine without being too much sought after ... Beautiful balance! It is in all these respects one of the best restaurants in Paris. Long live the Procope!
Came here after two recommendations. We were ultimately disappointed with our visit. Maybe because we only speak English- but wait staff was rude. Appetizers were good, main course was mediocre. Didn t stay for dessert. We were sad we didn t like it more after we heard such good things.
Ok but very much over-priced. Dishes were fair, the taste was not bad. But just plain. The dessert was worst. They need more effort. Just an old restaurant who want to rip off tourists.
I think eating in a meaningful place is one of the pleasures of traveling. I ate fish with cuckoo bang and it was very delicious. But the spacing between the tables can be embarrassing. However, there was no inconvenience because the server pulled the table out so that you could sit comfortably inside.
A mythical place that seems to have preserved its charm of yesteryear. Particularly sensitive to the moods, I liked this one faithful to the spirit of the philosophers who haunted the place. Even if the decoration varies from one room to another, the ones we went through all made us want to stop there. We only enjoyed salads and desserts accompanied by a very good Riesling but everything was excellent. Its terrace is also very nice, located in a romantic passage
Located near the end of Latin Street. The surroundings are good and luxury. The restaurant is as luxurious as its reputation. The price is also high. I don t know the taste of food..
Magic setting to celebrate a birthday Creams and excellent appetizers Entrecote without the announced pepper sauce ... kind of beefteak fries, very ordinary! Kidneys very good
Decent or good but disappointing deserts: the tiramisu Disappointed for the price, I waited better, I wanted excellence ... it is far. Very nice servers. I did not appreciate having been placed in the RC IN THE CURRENT AIR, thankfully we were changed places but when we specify the show, we must respect the customer.
If this restaurant is durable in terms of aesthetics and history .. A meal in this space is a real meeting with our great writers, philosophers, and revolutionaries !! Here, "truly breathes the wind of history".
But, alas, the quality of the proposed dishes insidiously drops .. The beauty of the place, its location, its history ensuring assuredly the number of clients.et tourists !! .
Oysters are always delicious and fresh ... But the roast chicken and its mashed potatoes do not compare to any other well known brewery in this neighborhood ..... Disappointing !! The desserts are correct, but without much inventiveness ..
The staff do their best to ensure, but there are not enough, (service or (and) kitchen), which explains the very long wait for the order, then the incredible time space between each dish.
We knew a Procope much more friendly, more greedy, or the reservation made upstream would make it possible to choose one's place .. Now, you are directed "manu militari", in bottom of room or the passage cramped between the tables and the passage of waiters, waste this moment that should be "delicious" !!
Excellent Service in a place with a lot of history from the Period of The Encyclopedia of great Thinkers with revolutionary ideas. The incomparable menu the best that you can taste in Paris
It is a historical place and history oozes from every wall and every representation. I advise you to read the events that happened in this place before going there: the expectations will not be disappointed. As for the food: excellent presentation, pure quality. Low prices for the menu at noon ( 24 or 29). On paper, high prices, but adequate for the product. All the waiters were very kind. Finally, a note for the often poor sanitary facilities in France: in line with the quality of the restaurant
I just loved it. The cuisine is traditional and excellent. The coq au vin and the duck breast are particularly exceptional. The strawberry is very good. I liked the Procopio tiramisu less. But after all, tastes and colors are indisputable. The staff are top notch. The setting is THE major point of the experience. To think that all these big names were there ... It's moving and impressive. And exciting at the same time! In memory of Jean d'Ormesson. His photo is in the entrance dating from March 5, 2002 I believe.
The history and location, mood is good enough. But the price versus food quality is bad. Entre escargot was too salty. Some sand(?) like things make it hard to eat. Main menu 'Calf kidney' was also distasteful.
We came here because my husband was very interested in the history of this restaurant. We weren t quite hungry enough for a meal, so we decided to have some desserts. I ordered the sorbet and ice cream assortment, choosing raspberry, More
Tea time disappointing ... coffee and hot chocolate ok but forget pastries that do not justify their prices around 10 euros ... To leave tourists in lack of false authenticity Paris.
Nice place to have lunch or have a snack. It is the oldest restaurant in Paris. I went with American friends, for them it's France they are looking for
Very good French restaurant, very warm welcome. We think we are in the 18th century, with the beautiful moldings and the magnificent decoration worthy of a castle.
Ahh La Precope! I loved it. Easy to book in advance online, so if you are looking for somewhere to have a special lunch or meal this is the place to head to.
The website is good considering that I was using the English version. Which was very useful considering my French is not the best!
The restaurant is steeped in history and if you are interested in eating where some of the great philosophers met. Then this is the place for you.
With regards to the food we had the Philosophers Menu which was wonderful. I would most certainly return!
We loved the history and tradition of this restaurant. I wanted to use my sad french but they speak good English and quickly default to it once they realise you are not french. The food was excellent.
A museum ! The decoration is sumptuous, we feel the history of these walls. The staff and the food are at the height of the establishment. (Not very green sugars in individual plastic bag!)
I love this place in the 5th arrondissement, the Latin quarter which would almost lose its Latin to describe in this restaurant the delights of the palate and the eyes. Thank you
WONDERFUL. Beyond a great moment of history, the dishes are excellent and very well executed. It's good and hearty. The very professional and warm staff comfort the whole. Much better than other Parisian restaurants or breweries. As a bonus, the prices are very reasonable. I only regret that I did not come sooner. So do not hesitate, to discover.
An institution, which has lost none of its charm and its cuisine is still good, and cheap if you go for lunch and its menu, the dishes are excellent, just for the ravioli, it's worth the trip, and the place is really beautiful and full of history, the professional and helpful staff, especially the "little hands" with the smile always present, the evening, reservation required, do not hesitate to visit places when you go, it is also part of the magic of the Procope.
I loved the place, steeped in history, which also serves as a museum. Gourmet level, it's good, pretty traditional. It's very good but we are not transported either. Experience to do.
