If your child has RSV, my advice would be to take them elsewhere. My child was repeatedly sent home and had to come back due to continued illness. Medical team puts large amounts of pressure on parents to take children home on oxygen. They treated us like overly concerned parents and brushed off our concerns about the status of his sickness several times.

We reached out to patient satisfaction and they did not help (for those of you being recommended for that). I have never taken the time to write a review for anything before and just hope that other parents can be more informed than we were. Even if the doctors pressure you or don't listen to you, follow your gut!

Had my son at 24weeks! Being from Hawaii here on a vacation & going through that experience is pretty scary.

Fortunately my family was blessed & grateful that Utah Primary Children s Hospital was equipped with the necessary technology to take care of my little soldier.

From Staff hospitality to Cleaners, they really take care of not only your child but your entire family. In the entrance it says Child first & always that is exactly how we have felt here. They go above & beyond to make your child feel soooo loved! They bring the holidays to you eg: (We had Santa come into the NICU for Christmas photos for babies like mines that won t be home for a long time, Sacrament is brought to us every Sunday, Parents potluck every Wednesday where concerns and suggestions are brought up as you mingle with other parents finding strength in each other, Complimentary breakfast comes by every morning & so much more).

They make first time mums like me feel relieved from a challenging time like this. As we draw closer to going home. I cannot find the right words to Thank the faculty/staff of this hospital for doing everything for my little soldier. We will miss this place & the wonderful friends we have made.

I have to admit the hospital is awesome in almost all areas. The only area I have ever had an issue with is their anesthesiologists' billing departments. One tends to not know until after the procedure that their anesthesiologist is out of network so you're surprised with an extra large bill.
Their billing department is quick to send people directly to collections. If this weren't the case, I'd be giving PCH a solid 5 star rating.

Very un organized to say the least. Not a good experience. I was told our daughters CT scan would be first thing in the morning. I was told the hospital would call me the day before to confirm the time and give me instructions. That never happened. I ended up calling and playing phone tag for an hour to try and find out what was going on. Finally some one called me back and told me that our time was at 1:30pm... That's fine, whatever. They gave me instructions and said my daughter could have a normal diet until 10:30 am before the scan. We go to the hospital and go to the imaging dept, check in and wait for an hour only to have some one come get us and tell us we're in the wrong place and we need to go up stairs. We go up there and finally get my daughter ready and have her IV put in and I tell them when she last ate...10:15am. Come to find out that's not ok it needs to be 6 hours fasting. Staff was rude and acted like it was my fault. We nearly got sent home after we had driven 500 miles and waited 2.5 hours... VERY unsatisfactory experience. Do not want to go back if I don't have to. Very unimpressed.

My daughter had been ill a while back with fevers that wouldn't go away. I took her there and just because she would not give them a urine sample, they left us in a room for hours. Only checked to see if she could give the sample after an hour and a half of waiting. They wouldn't check her for anything else until they had the sample. I got very frustrated after sitting in the room for well over 5 hours when I told them to check her or let her go, they let her go home instead of checking for anything else. Hate the ER dept! I will never take her back there again!!!

They staff was very friendly and the doctor that took care of my son was very kind, but the reason I'm rating such a low rating is because when we first arrived we got all checked in, the waiting room was full so we went to walk our kids over to the little play spot that they have in the E.R. well there was a rag full of blood just chilling on the floor and dried puke on the floor not to far from that. Thats pretty unsanitary and honestly could be potentionally dangerous to other children. So we told staff and they got on the phone with house keeping and cleaned it up Then when we arrived in the room there was no bed for my son just chairs and lights no one brought him a bed in the few hrs that we spent there... This was my 1st visit to primary childrens and it wasnt the greatest...

My little man, Atlas was life flighted a month ago from riverton hospital to primary's. The flight nurses we got were amazing! One of them charged at the PICU and was very concerned with my son's care when he would come on shift. In such a trying time, he even performed a blessing for Atlas which in my opinion, is beyond caring for your patients. The respiratory therapist were absolute rockstars and I have a whole new appreciation for them! The PICU nurses were some of the most skilled and loving people. Their knowledge was admirable, and they all treated Atlas like he was their own. To add, the attending who kept trying to talk me into a calmer mindstate was phenomenal, and I wish I could thank her for putting up with my emotions. At the end of my son's stay, the floor nurses were great as well! Such loving hearts who really do care deeply for these kiddos. After a month of being in the hospital and half of that being intubated, we are home, healthy, and happy! Atlas and I thank primary's staff for the exceptional care!!!

Secret, not so secret, of Primary Children's Hospital: we have a play room. And by play room, I mean a place where you can go and have all the toys, video games, and arts and crafts anyone could ever ask for.

If you can't make it to the play room, ask your nurse for whatever toys and arts and crafts you want and they'll reach out to the play room and have all those goodies delivered!

Was there for 7 hrs and left with no answer to what was wrong with our son who was doubled over from stomach pain. They did an x-ray, ultrasound and urine sample and couldn't figure out anything and between each test it was several hours before we would hear anything from the nurse or Dr. I understand we weren't the only ones there but that was very poor medical care for a top rated children's hospital

We have been here for many out patient treatments. We really like that we can put our son in a red wagon and pull him around. That is a lot more fun than riding in his stroller.

We also like the Healing Garden just outside the North Entrance. The water features were nice.

This place is amazing. We've brought a couple of our kids here for various issues, and they always go above and beyond what is asked. If I ever have to bring my kids here again, I know that they will be in the best care possible. For the size of this place, I found that their directions posted and signs guiding you to places also made things much easier.

Atrocious. I finally understand why so many people scoff at local fundraisers and it only took one experience. Honestly though, tell me how YOU would feel after bringing your 2 month old in because there was dark/red discharge in her diapers, waiting 5 hours in a hospital room, going through lab tests and x-rays (all state of the art, I might add), seeing "the doctor" for 90 seconds halfway through, and being told at the end, "Yup, it's blood. Dunno why though. Follow up with a pediatrician." Oh, and being charged?!!! Now, the staff was more than pleasant, granted; they gave us a self-pay discount as we aren't covered, great! But we paid the labs, the DR., the x-ray, $353 the day of, but because "the severity of the emergency was upgraded while you were there", we still owed $700 more by the time the smoke cleared. HOW?!? AND FOR LITERALLY ZERO ANSWERS???? YOU WANT MORE MONEY????? Now we did dispute it and were walked through the process in a kind and courteous fashion, but the bill was reduced only by $300. Now we are grateful for that, don't get me wrong, but that's still a pretty expensive "your guess is as good as mine" . . . And they still insist we pay. Nobody hires a guy to do their porch, pays in advance, at the last second is told "can't actually do that", and let's the guy walk off with your money. I'm perfectly alright paying for answers and "expert" help, but not this. Making monthly installments under duress . . .

Was in the critical NICU visiting family... i have always respected nurses and doctors for the work that they do... but the lack of basic caregiving knowledge that the staff and doctors have is mind blowing and instead of fixing it they cover it up. For example once the parents start talking about there experiences to one another they move them to another room... they have the HR hotline that you can contact but it just a way for the hospital to cover its butt. Nothing ever happens. They keep doing the same stuff... their favorite word is I m sorry . If you go to this NICU you go to see your baby get put through tons of studies where students come in and use your baby as a class project and eventually they die. I will never never forgive primary children s for what they did!

Although our time is always not what we would hope for we are grateful for the awesome staff that make the hard time better. We have been here more times than I can count and each time a member of the staff has done something that stands out as above and beyond. Thanks Primary Children's for caring enough to get employees that care.

I was not informed or treated for anything that showed up in testing both at their E.R. or surgical follow-up appointments. I am still dealing with the consequences of their medical negligence today. Please ask to be allergy tested before major surgeries. My surgeon in Nevada was shocked Primary Children's didn't perform a simple allergy test before surgery, and said he has never heard of another hospital not doing that before placing steel bars in someones chest for pectus excavatum. They are still not conducting allergy testing, and will not treat or inform you of serious health problems after surgery, because they don't want to admit they made a mistake.

My grandson was transferred to Primary Children's Hospital from Ogden last night. After they sedatived him in ER to fix his broken and that was also dislocated he ended up in OR to fix it. When the sent him home with NO pain meds because they didn't have to do much to his arm. Oh no you was just jerk ingredients it around two different times. And you did nothing that is why he has done nothing but cry since he got home at midnight. Then we call the dr and she says bring him in on Tuesday so now we have to wait another day and watch him suffer. This Hospital and Staff is a JOKE. No little kids should have to suffer in pain because the dr is a JERK. I would love to see her suffer with a broken arm. But no she would never do this to her child or family member.

We've been there three times with my son. The first time was directly after he was born (he was born with a congenital heart defect and a GI issue). They were very good to me and my fiancee. They knew how hard it was for us and were very accommodating and kind. The surgeon he saw was excellent, knowledgable and again very kind and understanding. And the couple of times after that were great. They were patient with us and understood our situation (I had to work and stay at home while my fiancee stayed with our son), and even while we visited and my fiancee and I got sick they were helpful and polite and patient. I'd recommend this hospital to anyone who's looking for one, it's definitely worth the drive.

If I could give this hospitals ER zero stars I would. We were sent away without the dr even looking at My 4 month old who needed help. On Feb 9th, I took her in to an ENT for an upper lip tie release (not at an ihc) and a tounge tie snip. Instead of the cut straight up, like I've seen other parents get for their baby's. My baby has a huge chunk that was removed from her upper lip. I trusted this doctor knew what he was doing. He should have clamped the tie, close to the gumline, for about ten seconds,. Then removed the clamp and cut the tie from the gum. Instead, the lip was cut so that a chunk of skin from the upper lip was removed completely, creating a deep laceration. I've been syringe feeding my baby because she is in so much pain she can't nurse. And it's swollen huge! So huge that she cant latch on even when she tries. I am in shock that this happened. She needs stitches or to be looked at by a Dr. Yet we were discharged without a Dr even taking a look.

Our newborn needs to see an orthopedic doctor. Our pediatrician said no ultrasound was necessary because the problem was so evident. However, Primary Children's claims that their policy is to have an ultrasound before a patient can be seen. This is a pointless $200-$300 out of pocket cost because of "policy".

After a family member went into the hospital for dizziness and was told they immediately needed 3 units of blood. This blood was donate by ever generous souls who give to the Utah blood bank.

Nowhere ever did the hospital warn that they new that my insurance woudnt cover the blood, nor that it would cost $5,000 for the blood. Then they string you along with a story about a Financial Assistance Program that I had to spend months dealing with, showing them the most intimate details of my finances including tax returns, only for them to say they don't forgive a bit of it.

So much for a not for profit hospital taking donated blood from a blood bank.

Parking is terrible parked on the south side. They take up many spaces for doctor parking and reserving spaces for construction parking. Leaving you no choice but to use valet parking wich I really dislike and will not use. One of the valet parking attendants harrased and chased me in the building with my 11 year old son with down syndrome threatening to tow my vehicle and even at one point threatening volience when I chose to ignore him and walk away. They worry more about there employees having parking then those with disabilities and have legal handicap space parking.

I wish we could have gone somewhere else, I don t like that Primarys is my only option. I had a great experience 5 years ago with my daughter, but not this time. It is not the same level of care I have come to know, or expect. My daughter had surgery, and then
We never heard from her surgeon again. We were discharged without follow up from him or anyone on his team, and we had numerous complications and all the calls fell on deaf ears. We put our pediatrician in a hard spot with seeking answers for my daughters post-surgery infection. It finally took my pediatrician calling a friend who works there to have us seen. So frustrated and angry at the lack of care my daughter saw from the pediatric urology team. I hope I never have to come back.

*update Primarys responded below rather quickly after posting my review, and I immediately called and email AGAIN. No response.

I was thoroughly disappointed in our visits at Primary Children's visit! This was supposed to be the place that kids could go to feel heard and safe and provide some of the most knowledgeable doctors there are. We went to visit for a possible hernia and were told that there was NO WAY that he didn't have a hernia, and scheduled a surgery. In the middle of the surgery they came out and told my boyfriend he didn't have a hernia at all! The doctor pulled us inside and flat out told us how sorry she was that she was wrong and doesn't know how she could have been wrong, and she wouldn't even charge me for the procedure if she could.

After I got my son home he told me all about how he was scared going under anesthesia and had asked them to wait and was crying for his mom and they ignored him and just made him put on the mask. I understand that kids get scared and nervous but a nurse had come into the office before surgery and assured him that she would hold his hand, but instead they ignored him! He doesn't even want to go to the doctors anymore because of this experience. *all they needed to do was reassure an 8 year old!*

They sent me to the "advocate" after who said that she would help me and i got a letter a few weeks later (that was sent to the wrong address) saying that there is nothing they can do and I am responsible for all of the expenses! They have now traumatized my child as well as hurt us financially.

TERRIBLE experience! I would NOT recommend Primary Children's.

I took my one year old into the emergency because she was throwing up all over the place from her mouth and nose. Within a 30 minute span she threw up more than 5 times. The staff saw this and still said the wait was going to be 45 to One hour! Yeah I was not going to keep watching my baby be in pain, throwing up for an hour. I took her into emergency for a reason not to sit there and keep watching time pass by with my daughter being sick. So we left and drove as fast as we could to Intermountain Hospital in Murray, where they had her checked right away.

I took my 21 month old daughter with high fever (3days). We already had seen two pediatricians. Anyways after she s been on antibiotics for ear infection and no results, we took her to the ER and it was most probably the worst experience I have ever had with doctors. We were there for two hours and they would not do anything. They would come into the room take her vitals and tell all this stuff they will do but nothing. I asked several times the nurse what was going on and all they d say is we are very busy .. finally after 2 and half hours I said I m leaving. As soon as I was about to walk out the door, everyone was available, the doctor and nurses and they finally did what they were supposed to do. I m still disgusted with the whole experience.

My son needed two heart surgeries. Both were performed by Dr. Hussain. We were very happy with with the surgeries and the care he received in the CICU. The doctors genuinely care and and very open and honest. We had a few issues with speech therapy and a couple of nurses and all our problems were addressed and handled professionally when we brought up our concerns. PCH also made a special effort to make our son feel as at home as possible which we really appreciated.

Terrible experience, Dr. Meyers and Dr. Barnhart w...

Terrible experience, Dr. Meyers and Dr. Barnhart were both investigated by DOPL for failing to do metal allergy testing for my child who had metal bars placed in her chest, she was allergic and they refused her testing and the medical treatment she asked for, she has lost her degree from the Y and is homebound now, and we have set up a GoFundMe account (Shannnon's Surgeries) for her so that she can receive the medical treatment she needs. She needed titanium bars and will never fully recover.

Have allergy testing done for your child if they require surgery at Primary's. They're still not ordering it, and placing metal bars in children who may have metal allergies. The consequences can be lifelong!

Update: Dr. Meyers treated me like I was a sociopathic parent and put my child's unit under lock down with a guard outside while she was there, the hospital refused to let her sign a release so that I could speak for her if she were too ill to speak for herself, and refused to listen to either one of us on her care. I was laughed at when it was hard for me to walk and I was laying down on the ER floor on a sheet because we were both exhausted and my daughter was so ill. I have nitroglycerin tablets now for my heart disease, and saw my oncologist for the first time last week. I had serious symptoms when Dr. Meyers was doing this to us. Dr. Meyers has been sued for malpractice before, but I want to warn other parents how negligent her care is and what happened to us at Primary Children's. If the surgeons like you, it can be a very different story, but if they are prejudiced it becomes a lifelong nightmare for you and your family.

Our daughter has had asthma for 2.5 years. Today she had an severe episode and our primary care doc with 40 years experience said to bring her in. So we did.... Only to have the Dr tell us another patient was getting asthma treatments at home for a cold which wouldn t work. We didn t realize he also thought we were that dumb as well, because another hospital staff member told us that he thought our kid also only had a cold which is absurd. The most frustrating part is we told him that we had already given her multiple treatments at home which we were concerned were not working but had actually started to kick in which is why she wasn t wheezing. Then we had the respiratory specialist come in and note that our daughters stomach and throat were pulling to bring in air, and want to do an asthma treatment and then tell us that she didn t think she was actually having an asthma attack. Then we were billed $359 for approximately 5 minuets with a dr who didn t really listen and 3 minuets with the respitory specialits who listen to the dr not us, and nearly 3 hours of our lives we will never get back waiting for 6 minuets if professional opinion. I honestly want our money back if that were an option. We thought we would try Primary Children s as it s closet to our house, don t think we ll ever be back.

This doctor (Stephanie Spanos, MD) came in and met with us briefly (less then 5 minutes) and didn't even exam our child. She came into our room with a medical mask on that she didn't remove. She gave us a lecture on child behavior (which I am aware of as a licensed clinical social worker and one who has worked as a child therapist), and said that our daughter was "having a temper tantrum" and "testing boundaries," I would not have taken my daughter to the emergency department for a temper tantrum. As a parent you know your child and are able to recognize when their behavior is abnormal. She stated that per the resident her throat was red which may indicate an infection but provided no answer and/or explanation other then that. She stated that we were fine to be discharged, we were out of the ER within an hour. Our daughter woke up again that night wailing in pain for several hours. She was 21 months at the time, so she was not able to articulate what was going on with herself physically. They did not even run ANY blood work to see if she was fighting an infection. The provider had absolutely no bedside manner. I hate to give one star to a facility but I am absolutely aghast at our experience. The nurse and the resident doctor were great, however, Dr. Spanos (the fully licensed practitioner) left nothing to be desired. We left with literally NO answers, no diagnosis, a lecture, and a bill. Yes, even with insurance (not a high deductible plan) the provider billed us $335 for her less then 5 minute conversation where she literally did not even touch our child or exam her herself. Based on this experience I give one stars, however, since it is the only children's hospital there are unfortunately no other options. If you need to go and Dr. Spanos walks into the room request a second opinion, i wish we would have.

This E.R. is TERRIBLE. We have been coming here for years and I can't believe how bad their quality is lacking. Unprofessional staff. We've been here an hour and no one has even come into our room at all. We were sent here by another ER because he needed more detailed workup for an infection in his face that has been spreading significantly in the last hour and they act like he is not important. If this wasn't the only children's hospital close to us I would never step foot in this ER again.

This hospital is the worst hospital I have ever be...

This hospital is the worst hospital I have ever been to. If you have any children, especially children with a mental disability, don't take them to this hospital. I went with my nephew, who has brain tumors. My nephew is 15 but has the mentality of a 4yr old. After BRAIN SURGERY, literally the same day he had the surgery, he really had to use the rest room. He didn't have balance, and didn't fully understand why he was unable to control his body movements.
(This being because of the surgery, and it only being hours after brain surgery.)
Well when he asked to use the rest room and trying to explain that he couldn't move, and it being obvious that he needed help just by looking at him. The nurse, with 3 other staff in the room, snapped quickly- "Your a big boy, you do it all by yourself."
Those were her exact words. I was sick to my stomach with anger, and after none of the other staff corrected her, I was so mad that I got tears in my eyes. Here is a helpless kid, mentally disabled, hours after a traumatic event, and being told that he should walk and pee all on his own. This child not only just had brain surgery, but he wasn't even capable of walking. And hearing this, it's easy to think- She must not have known the circumstances, and yes, I wish that were true. I wouldn't have been offended and I would have understood entirely. No, this woman was fully aware of his disability, AND that he just had brain surgery. This is why I will NEVER EVER go to this hospital. And since this experience, I have heard many similar stories, and many other horror stories of kids being mistreated. I'm sure there are people at this hospital with morals and a true desire to help people. But this was my experience and I wanted to share it. Thank you.

Great service and hospitality. It was a very uncertain time for us with our daughter. Her health was critical and everyone was really attentive and compassionate. There are three cafes to chose to eat in. There's the Ronald McDonald House which provide free meals and other amenities which help take the load off like washer dryers and areas for privacy. They have a room called school zone that kids can go pick out a free book and there's a lot to chose from. They have a music room that's very therapeutic. There's also a science room with lots of fun activities. Alot goes into the service provided. And of course they have therapy dogs that are extremely helpful and cheered our daughter right up.

Between the Life Flight nurses and the phenomenal care of the nurse practioners, doctors, and nurses of Primary Children's, our son's life was saved. He suffered from septic shock due to a ruptured appendix. While it was uncertain from one moment to the next whether he would live or not, ultimately, he survived. His pulling through was due, in large part, to his care at this amazing hospital. He was treated with tenderness and love. Each complication that arose, they knew how to treat it. We are so grateful! Without a doubt, I whole-heartedly recommend this hospital.

I am reluctant to give this low rating since the facility and the care for admitted patients is so great. My issue, however, is far more important than good hospitality. Readmittance for my family is very problematic. We were in the hospital a few weeks ago and had studies done to understand the issue. It has been two weeks since the studies were conducted and no actions were taken or plans offered. Now we are back in the hospital with the same issue. In addiion to the huge inconveniences of hospitalization, clearly this is also a problem that significantly increases the costs of health care to families of the sick and also those who are in the insurance group. I wish things had gone differently.

To call and schedule an appointment literally takes forever. The doctors are not that friendly and they lost our test results! We were finally called regarding those results after 2 months had past to basically be told that our daughter should still be on her oxygen (which she wasn't). This hospital is not very organized and their communication is very poor. However, when my infant daughter got sick, they did reach out and check on her so that is why I gave them one star.

My two month baby was diagnosed with an infection. We felt very welcomed by all the staff during our stay. Anxiety, confusion, nervousness was felt but they made sure our questions were answered and our baby was treated very well. Thank you!

Everybody we've interacted with at PCMC has been incredible--both extremely talented and very caring. Our daughter has had some very extensive procedures so we've spent quite a bit of time at the hospital and have been very impressed.

They work to make my child comfortable. We have spent a lot of time at Primary Childrens Hospital and they always work so hard to make sure my child has what she needs and is as comfortable as possible. The doctors and nurses here really care about my family.

Last month we thought our baby had a spider bite. We took him to this hospital.
They said it wasn't a spider bite and jumped to the conclusion of child abuse. Over a shadow on the X-ray they spent from 10pm tell 7am in the morning trying to get me to admit violently shaking my baby because I am a disabled combat vet with PTSD I must have violent outbursts. My PTSD I shut down I don't get violent episodes.
They sent me an apology letter didn't even spell my name right. Even after the follow up and saw no abuse and admitted it was a shadow on the X-ray they tried to convince my wife for 3 hours that I'm a danger to her and our two boys. When my wife said I'm a loving husband they told her to never met me heat her say that.
They have treated us so poorly with out any care and using the law as an excuse for their witch hunt, my wife wants to transfer her job and move states to get as far away from them as possible.
So, if you are a combat vet with PTSD. Be prepared for being treated like a child and woman beater as soon as you walk through the doors.
