City Hall Square, Glasgow. It is intended for public use.
With gardens and benches to rest enjoying the beautiful visits of the town hall.
You can meet people of all kinds. And depending on the time of year, enjoy the different events that are organized there.
It has the advantage of not receiving too much tourism, that allows you to see or meet your neighbors more easily.

Great guided tour for free! Go early to get on the tour list, explore other places and then come back at the tour time. If you wait until closer to the tour time to register, it s likely it will be full. Beautiful building!

I've just been informed that I can either wait for over an hour on hold or email you with regards to my council tax enquiry, the email response time however is 3 weeks!!

Is it any wonder people get so frustrated with the council, the inefficiency is staggering!

The building is gorgeous. Was quite excited to see the interior after somebody mentioned how beautiful it was. It is beautiful, very beautiful. However, the on staff receptionist was quite rude. Looking at the reviews, I'd guess this is a familiar experience.

They send thousands of penalty notices for bus lanes in Glasgow to Car rental companies. If you are a tourist and rent a car in Glasgow they will send you a fee for entering the bus lanes (you should be very lucky to notice and understand how you should drive in Glasgow center to avoid these lanes and hidden cameras) . On top of that your rental company (Europcar for instance) will charge you with a fee just for receiving a fee in their name!!! That's incredible! You'll end up spending hundreds of pounds just for renting a car in Glasgow. That's how they treat their tourists! Good job City Council and Glasgow's Car Rental Companies I hope that you gain a lot by destroying Scotland's tourism!

I have a bill I urgently needed to sort as it took a week for the mail to get to me in the first place and only 7 days of the date of issue to pay. The offices are only open during 9-5 weekday, very convenient for those who work a 9-5 job. When I try to throw money at them online, as it is the only way I could presently pay, it says it can take up to 28 days to get processed!

Sadly there isn't enough characters available to full express the sad state of affairs in short every member of staff and management and councillors should all be evaluated to determine if they are indeed fit for the position they hold

Glasgow City Council should hang their heads in shame - they organise events in the City centre and do not give any consideration to the people who work in and around George Sq. I work in Queen St. night shift and for example the bike ride that is on today 27/8/17 - the streets are closed from 6am - 6pm I finish at 8am and I have had to move my car to half way along Duke St to avoid being stuck in the city centre or worse, my car being lifted to who knows where?. It's a disgrace - there are plenty of parks and stadiums that should be used for events - the people who work and live in the city centre should not be inconvenienced by these closures, which seems to be on every other weekend. Glasgow City Council need to get their act together.

Absolutely useless. When i phoned, every option I selected kept telling me to go on the website and every time I spoke with a real person when pressing "all other enquiries" They had absolutely no idea how to get me through to the place I needed. terrible.

I phoned again and the woman told me that there was nothing to do because that was the way that they set it up, so my options were to follow the options or go on the website. No help what so ever for someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

One of the jewels in the crown in the city of Glasgow, The City Chambers is a stunning multi level floored building with a grand interior marble staircase.

The main banqueting hall is an incredible setting for a party or event and plenty of space for drinks and small receptions.

The service is extremely good for events.

Stunning venue well worth taking the time to tour around. Turn up early (up to 30 mins before it starts) to ensure your place. Tours take 40-50 mins, and are usually Mon-Fri at 10:30 and 14:30.

Very interesting tour with knowledgeable guides. 3 storey Marble staircase very impressive ...the Vatican only has a 2 storey marble staircase!

Shocking service.

Shocking service.
Rude staff and waiting times that exceed 20 minutes and that's if you're lucky.
Avoid where at all possible.

Get on the tour for this building as the staff and the building are sensational. It's a interior made up of marble and mosaic with a staircase higher than the Vatican City. Relatively new building for Glasgow as it was built in 1888 but has all of the opulence given it is at the height of the Victorian era. Tour is free and takes between 45 and 60 minutes

Just called Glasgow City Council to talk to them about my council tax and this was the worst experience I have ever had after being talked down to by a rude woman on the other end of the phone. I am extremely annoyed and upset to think someone who is there to help us could be so rude.

If there was a minus on this scale I would have rated her the lowest possible.

It houses the headquarters of the Glasgow City Council. Located on George Square, the main city square. Beautiful Victorian civic architecture building. Built between 1882 and 1888. Inaugurated by Queen Victoria.

This building is a great piece of Georgian architecture, both inside and out. Whilst the outside looks grand, stepping inside takes it up several notches, with the marbled staircases and huge ceilings. If you get the chance to visit do take it, it is worth it.

Shocking costumer service by the receptionist. Complaints form filled right away. I would have you sacked for speaking like that to a costumer. Never ever EVER interrupt the costumer or try to dispatch them quickly especially when you offered to help.

Got married there recently in the Satinwood Suite and it was definitely right choice of venue for our civil ceremony. All our guests were in awe with the beauty of the building and our pictures are just amazing. The staff were really nice and courteous. Very, very pleased.

This was an amazing free tour in Glasgow. Done at 10:30 and 2:30 daily. We had a lady called Donna as our guide and she was so so good. She was entertaining and so so informative about all sorts of things and interesting facts of Glasgow and Scotland. This tour is 1 hour long. The building is magnificent!

Waiting times to speak with an advisor at Glasgow city council are unbelievable! 35 minutes to speak with someone. The staff are not adequately train and have minimal knowledge of the area they work in, regularly being put on hold for long periods of time and as for customer satisfaction? No training, poor staff quality and no sign of improvement!

As a visitor to Glasgow, a guided tour in the town hall is worthwhile. There are 2 daily guides to which you have to register in time. Like the big museums, the town hall guidance is free, but not less interesting. Even the staircase with dark marble is absolutely worth seeing. The individual representative rooms are also partially decorated with marble and contain interesting paintings, including Scottish history, starting with the holy mongoose.

Although we had a pleasant day at a UK citizenship ceremony, we were the only one's who sang the national anthem, as the foreigners that were welcomed to this country did not no the words and would have loved to have joined in with us. Maybe the words of the national anthem could be added to the allegiance card, then they could sing it if they wanted.

Must see in Glasgow.
Free guided tours are offered here and this is well worth it. It can be seen that Glasgow was just as buoyant in the past as it was in the House of Chambers. It was saved at nothing. Interesting construction with even more interesting interior design. Sightseeing is recommended.

Been trying to contact the council for over a month now and have never managed to talk to a human. They have been charging me band F council tax when I am band C for months.
Every time I call they either have "system errors" with their phone system or they are "experiencing a high volume of calls" so my call is dropped rather than put in a queue.
In the last week the entire area where I lived only had one gritter come by on Sunday and the grit bins were constantly empty.
Not one snow plough came anywhere near our area and there is still snow all over the streets and pavements.
Any areas that have been cleared have been done by the people paying for the council to do said job.

I understand that the weather has been particularly harsh but it hasn't stopped any other council from doing their job. Like Argyll and bute for example. Had every road cleared and gritted by Saturday in the little villages.

Glasgow council need to step up their game or give us a reduction in what we pay. Definitely not getting value for money.

Amazing building. They do 2 free tours of the building at 10.30 and 2.30 Monday to Friday, and you do not book, simply turn up 30 minutes beforehand. Alas, when we turned up for the 2.30 tour, we were told that it had been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances but We were allowed instead to wander freely on the ground floor as a taste of what we missed so that was okay. The building opened in 1889 with gorgeous Italian marble staircases, and, appears to be exceedingly well maintained. Please leave a like.

My wife and I came from America to be married in Scotland, a place we absolutely love. The ceremony at the city chambers was amazing. They worked with us and made it's experience exceptional. We could not have asked for anything more.

WE HAVE HAD 2 FORMAL COMPLAINTS 'UPHELD' BY THE SCOTTISH PUBLIC SERVICE OMBUDSMAN AGAINST GLASGOW CITY COUNCIL
Despite these 2 'upheld' complaints which will be reported to the Scottish Parliament, Glasgow City Council's Development & Regeneration Services, Business Gateway & Customer Care continue to single my company out for inferior service in my view.
It is my opinion they have adopted a 'Strategy' of certain staff refusing to engage with me verbally, refusing to return telephone messages, however, this is all 'logged' and surely will have great difficulty explaining themselves to the SPSO and the Tax payer.
As a consequence we have instigated a further 2 Formal Complaints which are heading back to The SPSO for Investigation.
It is my opinion GCC have taken my actions in a very negative way, trying to disrupt my business. Acting in a very childish manner instead of accepting responsibility and taking ownership of their mistakes and learning going forward.
GCC have a website full of promises telling us what fantastic service they offer us the customer, however, in reality their actions do not match these empty words.
This organisation is full of very arrogant individuals who are highly paid for under achievement.
They constantly 'cherry pick' the questions that you ask, answering the ones that they can give you a non-answer, however, the one's that are more difficult and they are at fault are the questions that go unanswered.
The people of Glasgow deserve better, the organisation is in serious need of a 'Root & Branch Review' which I have requested and have been ignored.
Council workers MUST understand that they are Public Servants, and the monthly cheque they receive is paid by the Tax Payer, and that there is no place for arrogance & stubbornness.
I have had to endure bad service from GCC since Dec'13, and my message to them is that I'm never going to stop until they provide me with service as advertised on their website.
If it were possible to award NO stars I would

Well, I would suggest you wait for the guided tours. I was not that patient and just got to walk around the ground floor...which was not that spectacular. Staff was pretty bored as well (I guess). Main idea: GO FOR THE TOUR

(For Tourists) gorgeous interior design to peek at. When planning your day around, you can leave a short 30 min time for a public tour that they host twice per day (10:30am & 2:30pm, Monday~Friday). Come by and ask the receptionist about the availability of the tour! Easy to plan and learn a little something about this gorgeous space!

Just one stunning building when you walk inside you will be suprised at the decor. The staircase is marble and the biggest in Europe. That alone is worth visiting the Building. there is tours you need to check with local council on opening hours. well worth a visit when your on vacation in Glasgow and its free.
