We took the Mendenhall Canoe trip to get an up close encounter with the glacier. It was a great trip and David, our tour guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and fun. He took us right up to Nugget Falls and was also very aware of the limits of a canoe full of novice rowers. David made this trip extra special for us. Thanks!!!
I worked for Alaska Travel Adventures for a few month this past summer. The people were nice enough though the whole thing was very unorganized. I was supposed to be a tour bus/van driver but instead was put to work as a receptionist in the office for a whole month until I ended up going home. I was barely even asked if I was okay with it, they just insisted that I d be good at the job and that I was needed there instead. I disliked it there, everything was way too busy for just the two of us. Very unorganized, got in trouble for things I didn t do, hectic all the time. I signed up for employee housing, we were stuck 6 to an apartment, 2 to a room even the very small rooms, only one bathroom in which the toilet broke a few times and remained broken for several hours. No one had warned me it would be like this at all. Wouldn t recommend for people who like upfront and predictable, organized work. I feel like I m pretty flexible, but even I was thrown off by how unorganized and the lack of respect for some of us employees.
Had an excellent time with Capt. Jay and Sara today and saw some beautiful whales. Sara kept everyone entertained with her knowledge of the area and wildlife. Their boat is new, fast and cool, although that is something only the boys are probably interested in. At any rate, this was a wicked way to start our Alaska adventure and everyone should check these guys out! We also need to thank Stirling and Mary for driving us from place to place and pointing out all the Bald Eagles and funny things in Juneau.
