Fabulous Covid ready lunch on the terrace with attentive and friendly staff. Just a shame that the shade on the far side of the building masks whatever sunshine is around

I had the pleasure (or so I thought) of staying in the Park Plaza this weekend, it s actually a yearly tradition for me and my partner, in January for her birthday, and often we stay around 3 times a year. This weekend we were celebrating her 30th birthday and had planned a surprise afternoon tea party in Laguna. I pre called the hotel reception to ensure the room would be ready by 2pm so I could check in and we could settle in our room while her family arrived downstairs, this was not a problem so I was told. To my surprise we turned up just after 2:15 and was told the room was not ready, I explain I had called and they said it would be, trying not to give anything away, and the receptionist said no it wasn t ready. My partner then saw a number of her family arrive and it ruined the whole surprise. The room wasn t ready until gone 2:45, when I was told it would be ready at 2pm at the latest even before. You ruined her surprise party and I was absolutely mortified! She herself actually went up to reception and thanked them for ruining the surprise to which the receptionist look at her without a care in the world! To make it even worse the cleanliness of the hotel has gone down hill, the dust on your toilet door handles in the room is obscene, and the floor of the men s toilets downstairs was covered Wee. The restaurant was nowhere near staffed enough and we waited way to long to be served and none of your waitresses seemed happy and were in an awful mood when we asked for anything. I think we ll look for somewhere else to stay!
Brilliant staff. So incredibly helpful. A 'must stay' hotel if you're in Cardiff.
This is an excellent hotel in a prime position with good facilities and restaurant and bar. It is a shame and very short sighted of the directors that as soon as there is an event in Cardiff the price of the rooms are hiked astronomically. More
Excellent night sleep. Would highly recommend. Breakfasts are well presented and tasty. Staff are helpful and super friendly
Food was excellent so no complaints the portions were very good. The service was poor too many people we left after 3 hours as we couldn't wait any longer so had to skip the dessert
Excellent food, incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Everything was perfect.
Staff were friendly and approachable. Food was okay. There was however a bit of confusion over where the buffet was going so they had to look for it after our training.
Excellent afternoon tea, excellent service, compliments to the chefs
Had Sunday lunch as a birthday treat from my daughter. Absolutely gorgeous food, Great service and lovely surroundings. Will definitely be back. Afternoon tea next !!!!!
Lovely gentleman's tea this afternoon, however not very ladylike for the toilet floor to reflect the inside of
the cubicles,my friend told me she could see me in the toilet attending to my women's hygiene needs reflected up in the floor while she was washing her hands. Not a very pleasant experience!!!
Central location with swimming pool, spa and gym facilities.
Did the trick for a rugby weekend at a decent price. Rooms were VERY small.
Good sized hotel rooms good staff but they looked surprised as I was not sort of person they expect to been in there as I was in joggin bottoms and football top. Over priced for what it is I paid 145 for the night and the check in out person did not know what to do as I was paying cash had to get someone else to sort it
Went for gentlemens afternoon tea. Was delicious. The scotch eggs were amazing. Great Fathers day treat.
Unfortunately has drunks next door and thin walls, asked to be moved, got a room in the same range but half the size.
Great clean hotel, fabulous location, friendly staff!
Located just near Cardiff castle, this hotel is a wonder. Great helpful staff and spacious rooms make this a must.
The hotel is situated directly in the beautiful city of Cardiff. You can easily walk to the shopping streets and to Bute Park, where you can relax or do any kind of sports activity.
The rooms in the hotel are nice, however there was missing something to put my suitcase on. As in most hotels in the UK the rooms are quite noisy.
The breakfast is very good and they serve very good cocktails at the bar in the evening.
Lovely evening. Bar staff are fantastic. Room very clean and comfortable.
Went for afternoon tea. Service was very slow but quality of food was good.
When you make a booking they have no record of it. Not the best. We went for afternoon tea booked over the phone and were assured our date and time was in the diary.
As we had previously cancelled after a family bereavement but when we got to the hotel we were not welcomed in any way shape or form we walked straight into the dining hall.
when we entered the dining hall we were looking for a staff member so we could attract attention in order to let them know we were there for afternoon tea.
The young lady slim girl quite tall brown long straight hair went to the screen on the right hand side in the corner as you walk in to the dining hall. After literally 5 seconds loudly announced there is no booking we explained we had booked and had rearranged our booking over the phone but the girl just looked very confused I then decided that my wife and I would go elsewhere .Absolutely terrible service.
Very nice Breakfast. Fitness room with good equipment.
Beautiful hotel with spacious and comfortable rooms. Staff are professional and helpful, and the location is excellent in terms of the city centre.
Had our work xmas party here. The food was amazing. Its was a fab night.
The room was large and great, had aircon on in the room. A large bath for the Mrs to enjoy and relaxing. The breakfast was spot on and the service was professional and friendly. The food in the restaurant was great, would recommend to anyone fancying a comfortable night. Will be coming back in the future.
We used the spa at the hotel and it was amazing, the staff were really nice and welcoming, we will be back
Default hotel when in Cardiff. They have a great buffet breakfast and rooms are spacious and modern.
Nice room, well finished bathroom, good food at dinner (about a dozen of us had dinner in a meeting room).
Had a lovely 2 nights here with the wife the room was perfect for us.staff was very helpful swimming and steam room great.very central shops just round corner.we was here on a Tuesday and Wednesday had a back room and it was so quite.would defiantly use it again.
Great hotel central location.good food great facilities spa and gym etc. Conference facility. Easy access
Very conveniently located. A lot of night life and things to see around.
Not very helpful when I tried to book a lunch in advance
Contemporary but cosy. Nice artwork and lovely bar. Everything you could want from a hotel
Lovely setting. Bar menu is good food, reasonable prices and quick service.
The restaurant is more formal. Food is obviously more costly, but still good value... depending on the special, its can be very very good value.
I've eaten in the bar 3 times and the restuarant twice. Food has always been of a very high standard for me, and the guests I ate with.
Will be going back.
Great location and lovely staff. The view wasn't great so that was the only downside
Drinks very expensive. Bar area very dark and noisy. Stood outside and shocked to see pool area, had hoped to go for a spa day, but won't now wouldn't want to be lounging or in the pool with people stood outside. Very disappointing!
Had our Xmas 2019 doo here. We were crammed into a tiny room. No where to sit, dance floor the size of a postage stamp and there was 150 people. Guess what our company won't be coming here next year!
Do not accept a room facing the Wetherspoons pub if you want to sleep.
One of the best hotels in Cardiff. Always a pleasure to stay in. Friendly staff, nice rooms, comfortable and relaxing. Good food. Good breakfast.
The function rooms (Civic Suites) were very comfortable and more than adequate for our requirement. The service was a little fussy and not always particularly well timed, but otherwise it was great.
Went to have dinner with family staying there and the food was very good as usual. I was very impressed with the attentiveness of the waiting staff too as we had highlighted some allergens concerns at the time of booking and the waiter made sure to check who were the affected customers at the table and promptly took the right steps to accommodate these. For example he made sure the fries were cooked in the gluten free fryer without being asked.
Impressive hotel with a good restaurant. However, had no car park so only option was the expensive NCP across the road
Location can be a little noisy if your room faces the road, everything else excellent
The rooms were clean. Shower excellent. Cannot comment in the other facilities as we did not use them.
Very nice hotel, great service, nice food, beautiful rooms qnd perfectly located in the middle of Cardiff
Def best hotel in Cardiff, always stay here if they have a room. Opposite best clubs too but can t hear the noise at night. 10/10.
We had a gin afternoon tea for the start of my daughter's hen night. I pre-booked with them. It was totally worth the money. The waitress was polite, friendly and explained how it was different from a normal afternoon tea. The gin cocktail comes in a teapot and was served in teacups. It was Hendricks so good gin. The food was lovely. We had a 3 layer cake stand full of food. The bottom layer had sandwiches 4 for each guest, one each of salmon and cream cheese, tuna and cucumber, ham and egg mayo. The second layer was warm scones with butter, jam and cream. The top layer had 4 finger cakes and a gin and lime jelly, again there were 4 of the cakes per guest and one jelly each. They asked beforehand if anyone had any special dietary requirements. We sat in a booth so quite alone in our little group in a crowded restaurant. I paid the bill and found out as I had pre-booked there was a percentage off the total bill. I cannot recommend it enough. I loved it, it was a great start to my daughter's hen night. We all enjoyed it and I would certainly go back again. It was different, charming, surprisingly filling and worth every penny of it.
Park Plaza Cardiff, located in Central Cardiff, is very comfortable with friendly staff. The rooms size is good and clean. It's only a short walk to the castle, restaurants and shops. It's a great location.
Was served cold and raw meat slices as part of the menu's meat platter. Chef was lovely and super apologetic, however deputy manager tried to tell us that the red colour was due to the addition of spices! Which was very patronising and ensured that I would write this review. He did offer us free desserts, which we didn't want, need or accept. We understand that mistakes happen and were pleased with the way chef dealt with us. When we paid, we were asked to pay full price, at which point I questioned paying for raw food. Again, in his wisdom, the deputy manager suggesed 15% off the food but not the drinks. Shockingly poor people skills and a clear lack of concern by this manager. We will now transfer our lunch 'dates' prior to the wonderful new theatre's matinees to an establishment who value their clientele and are skilled and appropriately equipped to rectify issues when they undoubtedly occur.
Best Sunday Lunch in Cardiff!!!! Been there several times and going there again today for a family meal (21 of us).......
Good hotel with courteous staff. Pool and spa access are included with the room, so fantastic for a relaxing stay!
Food was nice...service was okay....went for lunch so can only comment on the lunch time service
Only visited for half a day conference but excellent facilities and refreshments provided.
The staff here are very friendly. This is 1 out of 3 hotels we stay in but the main one
It was a party booking on Sunday the 12th of march for 12 this was for my 60th birthday I had booked the gents afternoon tea, I had asked my sister to take care of this for me, My sister went to the plaza 3 time to pay the bill More
We had the Gentlemans Afternoon tea and it was fantastic. Service was absolutely brilliant too. I would without a doubt recommend this. Top class.
Been twice now and loved it on both occasions. Took daughter first time for a treat and went back with mum, auntie and sister the second, they love it too now!
Great spa, lounge areas, choice of bar or restaurant menus. Buffett breakfast is amazing. Very near to shopping centre, literally round the corner. Theatre couple of doors down. There are other restaurants nearby if you fancy something else. Clean rooms and Friendly, helpful staff. Hotel kept bags for us before check in, when we arrived earlier in day and again after check out so we didn't have to rush home.
Good service and good food, drinks a little bit pricey.
