I use to like this hospital, I took my husband there and they sent him home with some cephlex. He still was urinating blood and his legs were really swollen. I bought him to Lakewood ER hospital and he has infection and cellulitis. Fluid building up going towards his heart shame on you Presbyterian. You could have killed him

Nurses and aids generally care, given the outdated facilities but the case management dept. personnel are terribly incompetent. After much discussion the transitioning tools ( wheel chair, walker, comped )were all delivered incorrectly and not meeting specifications so a second set was was sent still not meeting needs. Even prescription sent to pharmacy was flawed. Complete incompetence displayed by case management and facilities to to move into at least the 1990s.
Just posting the new parking guide starting June 1, 2020. I guess you have to pay $3 for every time you park within a 24 hour limit, NO in and out is allowed. You have to pay another $3, if you drive out for lunch and another $3 if you decide to go out for dinner. WOW! I guess they should just charge $9 for all day parking and allow in and out. Just saying.
I feel bad for the people that have to have dialysis and now pay $3 for every visit.
Update June 23, 2020 For some reason the pictures were deleted, I just added them again. I wonder if the PIH deleted them??
My hospital experience was GREAT! All staff were professional, caring and provided timely updates regarding my plan of care. Thank you ED, 4 Plaza. SAU, OR, PACU, Dr. Odou and Dr. K. Huang. Your Team was amazing! I am very lucky to have a Hospital near by that provides OUTSTANDING PATIENT CARE.
Has taken and continue to take care of my grandfather awesome nursing staff and Dr Tovar is the most awesome heart surgeon thank u for saving my grandfather's life
I have been to this hospital more times than I can count due to my gallbladder... number 1 thing I like is they cAn approve you for emergency medical if you make a certain amount of $$$ and because i lack insurance this is an amazing process... but 2nd the staff is always friendly... 3rd was the experience that I recently had.. I came to the ER because I was 6 weeks pregnant and was experiencing bleeding, the staff was attentive and within 3 hrs I had the cause, they also followed up with me to get my to there own PIH OBGYN , who was also AMAZING, unfortunately within a week of being there I was back again for the same problem and I unfortunately miscarried my pregnancy... but the staff was just as amazing before and were supportive of my needs... I want to thank them because this could have been a very traumatic experience and it wasnt.. very sad but I was well taken care of and I will always speak highly of them
BRENDA SANTA MARIA one of the registered nurses in the critical care unit at PIH Whittier is the worst nurse/hospital employee I've EVER SEEN!!!! I don't know how she's qualified to work in this type of setting, I highly doubt she has the proper credentials or experience to work in this type of environment. My experience with this young woman was the worst I've ever encountered at any hospital clinic or medical facility of the word negligence is an understatement pertaining to this woman i'll be filing an official complaint and making sure she gets reprimanded!!!!!
P.S if I could give zero stars or negative stars I would but one star is the lowest option
Terrible member services called the 2 numbers for this location 9 times in a row plus I ve been calling for the last 6 months and the operator (EVERY SINGLE TIME) hangs up before I can even get one sentence out. Horrible.
Emergency Room is a joke it's like a kick back spot where these so called professionals come and gossip no professionalism what so ever needs to be addressed
These guys are great the only problem i have is with the billing some how they managed to over charge me very often i have to keep calling to get credit
This hospital has the worst customer service I have ever seen. I went in for a rabies vaccine and I was treated brutally. The treatment for rabies consists of a series of vaccines to the affected area on differents days. My first issue surfaced when I initially received the vaccine. I was told that upon receiving the vaccine that day would be considered as day zero, so I was told to come back in 2 days. As it turns out that was completely incorrect since when I arrived on day 2, I was told I was one day early so they couldn't give me the vaccine but they could give the booster shot. I apologize d and I told them I would come back tomorrow , but they told me I couldn't leave because I was already checked in. They refused to let me go, so I stayed. Now they are trying to bill for the mistake along with the other vaccines since they charge "per visit" regardless if the doctors told you to come back to get the same vaccine since it's a procedure. On top of that there were days were I waited up to 4 hors for a simple vaccine that can be gives in about 2i0 mins. DO NOT TRY TO COMPLAIN TO THE NURSES ABOUT HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEE THERE SINCE THEY WILL FIND WAYS TO PROLONG YOUR STAY AT THE HOSPITAL. Even when I tried to complain to billing about my bill and my treatment at the hospital, they were passive aggressive and hug up on me after a while. Currently, I filed a complaint to the hospital and to my insurance just to show what kind of hopsital they are supporting. DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR AND NEVER GO HERE. THERE ARE BETTER HOSPITALS OUT THERE.
Go somewhere else. My pregnant wife and I were in a vehicle collision. We both got admitted here due to proximity.
A few things gave me a VERY poor experience. One: upon completion of treatments, I needed to pay for the services rendered by the hospital, now 60 days later, I have outstanding hospital expenses that PIH says I need to pay.
Their medical billing/cashier department has already mailed me my records. Since the New Year, they sent another letter telling me to pay more money when this should have been paid all at once, not broken up.
If you go here, prepared to pay once at the time of ER service and again in 60 days due to their incompetency.
Bad hospital. Im having withdrawal symptooms from medication. Im still in terrible pain. They discharged me so fast. I think is because i have Medi-Cal. Poor service.
The new parking scam is so unpopular that PIH has changed it to a flat $3 fee instead of a time-based fee. So they'll only shake you down for $3 instead of hitting you up for another $1 when you get to the gate. This is what the upper management of PIH thinks of its clientele (patients), just another source of revenue for them. Very poor form PIH.
Had a horrible experience from start to finish here. Receptionist was rude. Waited an hour to an hour and a half in the ER wait room to be seen with just one person ahead of me. Receptionist saw me crying and gave no sympathy whatsoever. Had a fractured pinky and never saw a doctor in the 5 hours I sat on the ER bed. Literally a doctor never came into my room. All they had to do was pull my finger and put it into place and they did not. Now I will need surgery for what could ve been a quick fix. I am filing a complaint with the CDPH today this is not right!
My wife's 88 year old mom was ordered by her assisted living facility to go to ER because Potassium levels were considered high (6.4). They arrived at 4pm on 4/25/2017. Initial trauma visit took about 20 minutes for BP and vitals. Mom explained she felt fine, no problems other than BP was higher than normal due to Whittier Glen taking her off of LIsinopril for a few days. Sent back to ER lobby. After finally talking to my wife at 8pm and finding out they still hadn t seen a doctor. I told my wife I was coming to pick them up. When I showed up to advise we were leaving at 8:45pm, they advised they would send out the charge nurse, Lara, who informed that they had a six hour wait average going on. They said Mom was second in line, and that we might as well stay. We waited for 5-10 minutes, I then told them we're taking her home, she has no symptoms and is only there because her potassium levels were high. The charge nurse said "We won't call you with the results." I said "Really?" and we started to get Mom up at 9pm to leave. Amazingly, her name was miraculously called right at that moment. After a 20-30 min once in the ER, the supposed ER doctor finally comes in-and takes about TWO minutes to tell us that there's nothing wrong with her and that her potassium levels are 4.6 (within acceptable range) and we can go home. OTHER ISSUE: I tried calling from home and they would not provide any Doctor's name, so that we could call in the next day to get the results. This hospital will hold you hostage. Obviously severely understaffed. (DON'T BELIEVE THEIR WEBSITE WHICH SAYS 3 hr 48 min average!! which is over an hour longer than the national average wait to be seen and sent home.) Total time: 5 hrs 45 minutes in this crowded ER for an 88 year old!! They refused to even say if had the capability to perform dialysis for kidney failure (which is what they were suspecting!) My wife described the doctor as a foreigner with a beard; she does not believe he even had a lab coat on. We suspect she was not even seen by a Doctor! No attending doctor is noted on ANY paperwork that my wife was given. The name of this ER doctor's firm appears to be ExitCare, LLC. 5 1/2 HOURS to get potassium level test results from their LAB! We will be filing a complaint. HORRIBLE!!
Staff is Supper. To BAD corprate gets in their Staffs way. Losing our family over the newest corprate mentality, we are Customers First! We have started to take our needs to other places. To bad, 3rd generation so long.
Pay parking was the "Last Straw" in the new corprate Greed policy, not to mention "off shore" medical providers contacting me representing PIH with all my personal info.
My Mother was a patient there in April. I found the rooms to be huge and comfortable the care to be curteous and professional. Every area of this hospital was great from the ER to the Rooms totally satisfied with the carr she received
The Doctors and staff are outstanding. The new parking scam is a ripoff. Parking Operations says your time starts AND stops at the gate. So, if the kiosk at the door says you owe $0, it may be different at the gate. ALL parking should be validated for EVERY patient at EVERY department.
My Autistic son had a CT scan at this Hospital. He wanted his Father with him when he went into the scan room. Instead they let in a caretaker from his group home. They said they needed someone to keep him calm. She is just his caretaker at his group home and has only known him for 2-3 months. They would not let me, his Father, in the room. The next day my son told me how upsetting It was for him not to have his father with him in the scan room. It also took over 2 and a half hours where my son had to sit in a bed awaiting for the scan. I would never use a hospital that would keep the father of an Autistic son from being in the room while he was getting a CT scan!
I went a while back when I had an attack of COPD and couldn't breathe, I was taken in immediately and was released after I was treated and given instructions on new medications and could breathe again. I realize some people have to wait longer but they take you by the seriousness of your ailment. I recently switched from Kaiser to PIH Health so I could have this Hospital to go to when I need help. I want the best when it comes to my health.
The three stars are given for the reception desk staff and the triage staff. After that it all went downhill. I was placed in a peds room that was freezing. No one came in to check on me for more then an hour until I told one of the clerks walking by that I wanted to leave. My pain had stopped so I just wanted to leave since I'd been there since 2AM and it was 5am now. The ER physician assistant came in and told me that based on my tests (blood /urine ) that it might just be indigestion. So I left with a prescription for meds that I did not fill. A couple of nights later while in the middle of another painful episode, I took a look at my lab results from the ER, and a person does not need to be a doctor to see that my liver test results were not right especially when I compared them with results from my physical exam the month prior. I went to my clinic and from there the nurse practitioner ordered a stat ultrasound which showed that my gallbladder was inflamed. Within a month and an MRI I had surgery for a gallbladder that was extremely infected to the point that it was black. The ER had the results for my physical tests but did not bother to compare. Needless to say I don't trust the ER doctor's judgement.
Worst Hospital ever!!!! my husband went in with bad chest, arm and back pain, possible heart attack, from receptionist to the rent a cops at the front door all with bad attitudes, no customer service skills, no compassion, no concerns for their patients, I should have noticed something was off when they would come out and call patients who just got up and walked out and probably went to another emergency room I assume , we counted about 4 total, we sat in the emergency for 2 hours and then were put into a room for another four hours and we re told that the doctor would be coming right in to see my husband because there was cause for concern with high enzyme levels which is meant something is going on with his heart possible heart attack, being that he already has 2 stints it was cause for even more concern, we contemplated about leaving after being there for a total of 6 hours and after being in a room for 4 hours that no one ever bothered to come to check on him, with all the nurses that were on staff and in between all the gossiping we overheard you think they would ve found the time if at least to make us feel they were kind of concerned, as we were walking out the doctor happened to finally walk in, at this point my husband was so upset and told the doctor we just wanted to leave, his response was your free to do what you want and proceeded to tell him I had patients that took priority over you, not apologetic or sympathetic or concerned at all never explained any of the test that were done and walked out with no regard as if it was better for him one less patient to deal with, the PA then proceeded to explain the concerns and felt he should stay for monitoring and another blood test we agreed and he went to track the doctor down, he came back 5 min later without the doctor and said the doctor said your free to go just sign your discharge papers! As we were leaving we wished the 87 year old women in the room next to us that had fallen and hit her head and busted it open good luck and prayers she also was there for 6 hours without being checked on and had to walk down the hall by herself to use the restroom because no one ever came to check on her! We called my husbands personal cardiologist and he wants to see him right away because he said those levels were way to high and he should have been admitted, if you sincerely care about your loved ones do not take them to Whittier PIH, my husband could have died! If I could give zero stars I would, shame on you Dr. Jammal Mansour!!! You need to learn emotional behavior if you are going to continue see patients!
Staff are nice but check in with admin for lab/ ultra sound are redundant, and time consuming that could have been taken care of over the phone when they called the day before to confirm, no changes in information...especially during COVID time, there s no need to crowd the lobby. A quick id check should suffice.
There are personnel who are indolent with ageno pain and hurt you more on purpose today I went for rectal pain that was caused to me in this hospital a few days ago and Dr. Jammal Mansour of emergencies knowing that I had emorroids and that I was injured without any type I scrupulously checked again and finished hurting myself and the worst sent me to the house without even giving me a single pain pill. He is a doctor who shows that he does it for money and not for vocation, he doesn't care about people so if he attends to them, ask another one to attend him because he is going to hurt them without the slightest remorse this man should work on anything else Less in an emergency room is an animal when treating its patients.
Best place to Deliver your beautiful bundle of Joy. The Nurses And Doctors are so nice and so kind. Everyone here is a team I LoVe it. They always check up on me and make sure my baby is great. All the nurses n doctor know a thing or two about breastfeeding. They are so amazing and very helpful. Everyone here is just so great. Best hospital ever!!
Filthiest hospital emergency room I've ever seen. Nurses had absolutely no sense of urgency and lacked any sense of compassion. The doctor was great which is the only reason I've given them 2 stars. Too bad cuz a few years ago I'd have said this was the best hospital around.
I was just at the ER tonight. Nurses were great until it got down to the doctor. She was extremely rude didn't listen to me at all. She was trying to say that I had one thing but I actually have been diagnosed with something else. She couldn't even look at me in the eyes and talk. She didn't care that I was on extreme pain. I would rather be at home with my daughter then be in a hospital bed with a doctor that think I'm abusing drugs. Listen lady I'm not a drug addict but having a pain killer does help me when I'm in pain and all I want to do is spend time with my little girl. Never going back to this hospital again if the doctors are going to be this rude. Get a heart!!!
Best care ever. Nurses at the ICU, ECC and hospital are the best, amazing Doctors the best. No words to describe their level of care and professionalism.
Doctors, nurses, nurses aides, staff of PIH are Angels that walk this earth!! Your service and care for my husband has been done with excellence!! Love and blessings to you all!!!
WHITTIER &DOWNEY P.I.H ARE THEE BEST HOSPITALS FOR PERFORMING WONDERS SURGERY'S OF ALL AND MANY TYPES.I HAVE EXPERIENCED A FEW MYSELF.I TRUST EACH AND EVERT DOCTOR AND NURSE THAT ARE EMPLOYED AT THOSE COUPLE OF HOSPITALS..IM A MIRACLE DUE TO DR.KYLE LOU MY HEALING DOCTOR ALONG WITH HIS TEAM WORKERS THANK LORD GOD FOR WORKING THROUGH THESE CHOOSEN SPECIALIST FOR ME. .TRUELY PATIENT CORRINA DURAN.
Great Hospital and ER, I had a horrible accident that left me with a broken forearm and wrist. After less than a 30 min wait I was in a room. Later on after I was made comfortable and all the exams were done, I was told I was gonna need surgery. They immediately placed me in a room to stay over night and had surgery the following morning. I was out the following day in the afternoon and am forever grateful for their service.
My name is Steve I had a quadruple bypass heart surgery and I was in the hospital for a month and the doctors and especially the nurse we're very comforting to me at a time when I didn't know what was going to happen and I'm very thankful that I was treated at this Hospital..
It all starts at front door!!! Get a happy rent a cop that likes people. Not a unhappy one who is more on HER phone. She is working the front door now 1054 am on saturday june 28th.. i have lived in whittier since 1987 and this has been my home hospital since that time going through. Car accident a aneurysm and birth of my child.. my wife is here now getting surgery and honestly its time to move on from this place... customer service goes along way! Please never forget that
I was bitten by a spider Sunday afternoon, I am diabetic & called in the A.M. Monday to see my doctor, I was told I needed to speak to a nurse, I left a message for the nurse, she called an 1hr. and half later. the nurse stated , yes you should see a doctor, I was transferred so many times, people kept coming back to the phone, but said no one could help, finally I get a call and they are setting me at 3:45 with of course(NOT my doctor) I can't understand why all this procrastinating in the at the early morning call!!!! Ridiculous. if things get worse I will go to urgent care why could they have just given me an appointment on my first call spider bite, swelling, diabetic....sounds urgent to get an appointment right off the bat, and bypass all this red tape!
Horrible nightmare at PIH emergency room the evening of Monday, March 9th. I took my 78 year old mother (who has a lung decease) into the emergency room with a chronic cough due to an infection. She also had an irregular heart rate. After 6 hours she was finaly seen by a doctor in the emergency room, and admitted to the hospital. Some of the PIH emergency room attendees and nurses provided poor customer service. They have forgotten that the patients are the clients and just don't have compassion for the sick. PIH Emergency Room system is Broken!
We have been to ER a few times this year (4) hospitalizations and have been VERY impressed with the whole staff, not 1 poor interaction at all, GREAT docters and GREAT nurse's
This place is garbage. The staff is the most unprofessional group I have ever come across in the medical field. They only concern themselves with gossip rather than patient care. Mostly Spanish speakers, they enjoy their food and their singing more than people. Don t bring your family here !
I've been to other hospitals. This is a long wait, but when they you get there they do an excellent job by attending to your needs. They don't neglect you like other hospitals. They do a really good job an asking you if you need anything. I really think this is one of the best hospitals by far.
I have been going to Whittier Presbyterian for over 35 yrs. The medical care has been exceptional. Unfortunately, the administration, billing department have been extremely unprofessional. The administration has set up a system that seems ridiculous. ..they assign a patient account number for every procedure...instead of having 1 account # per patient. They state that's the only way insurance companies will pay. I find it extremely hard to believe. Many medical organizations have one account number and identify service by date and inv#...which I believe would be better for everyone specifically when reconciling.
Aesthetically speaking PIH is a beautiful hospital. Through the years I have learned that just because a hospital is big and looks nice it does not mean the care is better than smaller hospitals. Like every other hospital I have been to there are good and bad staff. Most of the nurses and staff are good. The wait time to be processed was long but I have learned to be patient with hospitals and doctors' offices since they have a lot on their shoulders and deal with people who may have complex needs. Over all I give this place a 4 star.
My Father came in to the hospital on 1/3/17. I never knew this hospital even existed. We have been taking him to St. Jude in Fullerton for the longest time. The ER staff was great. Throughout the hospital, almost every staff greets you with a friendly smile. It feels good to be here, not that anyone wants to be at a hospital but if you had to, this is the place. The staff in tower 3-2nd floor, Dr Dr. Parkih, Dr. Chen, the nurses - Angela, Joy were outstanding. They were thorough, detailed and compassionate. Words cannot describe how awesome they are. We are now on the 3rd floor, the vibe is totally the opposite. It's disappointing and unfortunate that the vibe is not carried out to the 3rd floor.
This hospital delivers excellent care to their patients, the staff from doctors, nurses, aides, including cafeteria staff are compassionate, kind, understanding, always ensuring patients and visitors are well taken care of and have a clear understanding of what is going. The include the patient and family members to be part of the recovery process.
Came in to the ER And Had, a woman physician last name "rivas" she was rude and looked like she didnt want to deal with me. I mean if she does not like her job than why is she here trying to fake that she does. Get a new proffession than. You are getting payed to care for all kinds of patients. And not treat them right because of their apperance and what kind of medical inssurance you have. But other than that the nurse i got (miss yahaira) was verry helpfull and friendly i would rather have her assist me with everything, she treated me like we new eachother. Great job yahaira ! Why couldnt you be my physician lol
My experience with PIH doctors is amazing. The staff are always ready to help in any they can.
My doctor's and my mother's doctors make us feel comfortable and are very thorough. I love PIH wish they could better improve the billing dept. Billing to me feels like they do all their billing by hand this is why perhaps they take so very very long to bill. Other than billing PIH is an exceptional medical organization.
I HAVE BEEN TO MANY HOSPITALS BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD THE MOST BEST CARE IN ANY OTHER ONE THEN I HAVE HAD IN PICH THE STAFF HERE ARE VERY HELPFUL AND CARE ABOUT ALL THERE PAINTES NEEDS I AM VERY HAPPY TO SAY THAT I TRUST THIS HOSPITAL WITH MY LIFE
This place should be out of business! If I could rate them negative stars I would. I simply cannot describe how horrible the care is that my aunt and nephew have received here in the last two months. I can't go into detail, but suffice it to say I would not go here if it was the only choice I had.
The staff their are the best my mom was always tooken care of on sky or shannon tower floor 4 she was practicly in every other room on that floor my mom said they treated her so nice and very patient when my mom was at her worst they always introduced themself and always checking to see if my mom was comfy or needed anything all so sweet to my mom even when she was admitted to ICU they were all outstanding to my mom until we had to put her in comfort care they let my mom sit for almost 3 hrs with no oxygen while we waited in the room that was assigned toher and her family she was still breathing but suffered even more cuz they left her of the oxygen for a few hrs she passed away feb 07 2016 after beeing in comfort care for 3 to 4 hrs i guess when your almost dead they stop careing for you or treating you like a person or someones mom she was my mom and it broke my heart that they stoped careing for her once she was on her way to die
I was sick 2 month ago, I went to emergency room, the doctor in charge for this night give me the wrong antibiotics, I get more sick, ichi, vomiting, my heart was faster, I call the nurse, and doctors, they helped to say sorry for the medication, is not good for me, they can kill me. And the nurse was rude, she never help me.
Great care and great service. The only problem with this hospital is that it accidentally overcharges ALL THE TIME. And they won t tell you when you pay. Beware and ALWAYS have a copy of your receipts because they come in handy when you get a bill to your house saying you never paid! Good luck!!!
My brother and his girlfriend got into a car accident and they took so long to even get them a nurse. We were in the hospital for about 8 hours and they still took so long for results. I dont know , they need to get more staff because the last thing you want to do is wait for so long after a car accident. The girlfriends mom got here sooner from mexico than the doctor...
Very unfortunately I have been to this hospital many many times. From mother in ER, Brother in ER, Kid in ER, Cat scans, Small surgery, Child being born, and then visiting people at other hospitals. I have to say that this hospital deserves 9 Stars out of 10.. They do a great job in creating a peaceful environment, and the attention and care i've received by the staff has been overwhelmingly attentive, for being a 40 year old male, kind attention is not something we are used to receiving. Every and i say Every staff i have been treated by, nurse, NP, technician does their job very professional and personable. Great Job PIH.. If I were to give them 10 stars, I would only take 1 star away from Emergency room front desk. from the handful of times I have gone in, the front desk staff and the security do not get 10 stars. they get like 1 star.. they have never presented anywhere near what happens when you get inside the hospital. Emergency room front desk and security could be trained a lot more in people skills where people really need help and then they could get a full 10 stars.
