Really nice steam railway with clean and well-maintained facilities.

There is plenty to do at the Buckfastleigh end (although make sure to check if the miniature railway is running to avoid disappointment) with a great model train shop and restaurant.

At the Totnes end connections can be made to the main line trains via a short walk and all the staff were helpful and friendly.

We are lucky enough to live near to this beautiful railway and it's always a pleasure to visit..the grounds are stunning and great to sit and eat a picnic or just relax in...the staff are always friendly and willing to help or just chat about the rolling stock or forthcoming events...the cafe has the most gorgeous meals..the food is lovely. I'd encourage any one to visit its a lovely day out for all ages and especially to see the model railway running which always draws a good crowd.

I did the return trip from Totnes to Buckfastleigh. It's a very relaxing experience. The steam train runs alongside the River Dart for most of the ride with beautiful views. At Buckfastleigh there is a good cafe and shop and a museum. Also there are the otter sanctuary and butterfly farm. Altogether it makes an excellent day out

Gorgeous heritage railway nestled between Totnes and Buckfastleigh, this little hugs the river dart. As a local, much prefer it to its "sister" counterpart in paignton as its much more quaint. Transport is available from both termini in the forms of train and bus links from Totnes, being a short walk away from the heritage station and the x38 bus in Buckfastleigh and directly off of the A38 (~10 miles south of the end of the m5). Id advise those coming by car to start at Buckfastleigh.

Staff here are very helpful and the beer was cheaper than my local so my personal experience was I got to have my first beer on a steam train.

Amazing. Brings back many memories of how things used to be. Not a bad truth be told. The day was really good, plus you could actually get A worth while brew of tea or coffee on the train, that actually was really good. Plus if you wanted to. You could slide the little window open, remember those?, and get A memory whiff of the heated steam that whizzed back past your carriage. The scenery was Loverly, and you could get off the train at any of its two stops and do your own thing. As it's only A 19 mile track one way out and one way back. Plus there is A regular hourly service until knocking off time. You really have to admire and respect exactly what these dedicated volunteers have achieved through hard graft and public support via generous donations. This really is A magnificent salute to those volunteers who through pure determination and dedication, have kept A little of our her stage FULLY operational for the benefit of all of us, young and old. THIS seriously knocks those geek thumb twitching games out of the ball park folks. Why? That's simple...these are REAL trains driven by REAL people, and it's an education worth experiencing isn't it ladies and gents? As there is no substitute for the real Mcoy. Try it for yourself, and savour the experience, and watch those memories come flooding back.

Friendly staff and a nostalgic half hour steam train ride to Totnes from Buckfastleigh with the option to drive the train. Great for the enthusiast. Dog's are welcome to ride the train for a pound.

Took kids for a walk here today with friends.. Treated them to ice cream in the little parlour.. Lady very rude.. Not impressed.. Used to be a lovely lady before.. Sad because we are local but I will think twice before buying ice cream here again.. Rather walk to local shops and spend money there.

What a great time me and the kids had. The miniature railway is now working, that was great fun. The grounds are lovely for a picnic, with great views etc. Also a nice walk down by the river. I would recommend this place to all, it was great.

Xmas decor disapointing. Hot chocolate from a machine, served in a paper cup,way too strong and too hot for the children, cups half full No marshmallows!!! Not much entertainment for the kids 2 girls singing for 5 carriages although they were very good when we saw them. The magician was pants. The boys had the same present from Father Christmas!!! Staff not very chrismassy. Only about half a dozen dressed up. Father Christmas was very pleasant and chatted with the children. But overall not worth what we paid. Chips in restaurant were Cold!!! Service really slow. Won't be going back.

Went on the steam train from Buckfastleigh to Totnes with a group of walkers(20) plus 3 dogs. We all walked back to Buckfastleigh 10miles. Had lunch Staverton Church. Had tea, coffee, or cake in the station cafe at the end. Lovely day.
