Again as someone else pointed out, not in the cafe but the car park kiosk, the lady serving ice cream didn't have a glove on the hand picking up the cone, and took money in the same manner. Basic food hygiene really.

Can I say first that I appreciate any volunteers who help to bring a bit of nostalgia into our lives, love steam railways, however having parked at Totnes main railway station, and having to climb the stairs over the bridge to the other More

WHAT A WONDERFULL ATTRACTION, WE HAD LOVELY DAY ON THE RAILWAY. wHAT A SHAME THE STAFF WERE ALL DEPRSSED. A SHAME REALLY I THINK THEY NEED A TALKING TOO TO MOTIVATE THEM, AND BE MORE CUSTOMER FRIENDLY.

Lovely railway. Beautiful surroundings. I had my wedding reception on it 16 years ago and it was all perfect then. Went to visit in the last couple of days and all of the volunteers were great. Well recommended x

After a bit of spiritual recharging for the wife at Buckfast Abbey, it is only a short hop across a few roads to reach the South Devon Railway to get even closer to God on his Wonderful Railway . This ex GWR line runs from Buckfastleigh to Totness alongside the upper reaches of the River Dart , and is a very scenic and enjoyable journey indeed. We have been visiting this fantastic place for many years when we are in Devon and have enjoyed every visit .

A real piece of nostalgia, spectacular selection of loco's and rolling stock, nice location for picnic area and ample free car parking, unusually provision for motorhomes and large vehicle parking.
Alround a good day out to be had

Went for the Christmas special with two small Children. The entertainment was extremely poor and disorganised. The train was over 30 mins late so we sat on uncomfortable seats watching a heavily tattooed "elf" with a mohawk try to improvise and he didn't appear to know how to entertain children. On the train the kids saw Santa and got good gifts. Only problem being a train full of kids who were now bored and restless.
All in all it seemed very badly organised and we would have been much happier without any of the "entertainment" and just the train journey - it's worth pointing out that, because you didn't see the train pull in and didn't have time to look you didn't actually know it was a steam engine pulling the train.... which is kinda the whole point of going in the first place.

What a lovely railway. It combines that lovely trip in to the past with great scenery and a lot of things to keep a relaxed visitor happy as well as access to trains to look at for the railway enthusiast. Very well balanced. I enjoyed it immensely.

South Devon Railway at Buckfastleigh has an abundance of engines, a fantastic souvenir and model shop, delicious food in the cafe and a small railway museum with a good collection of second hand railway books. The perfect start to a scenic railway journey!

A fascinating place. The stations are very attractively decorated and clean. Trains and rolling stock are in excellent condition and the staff and volunteers were helpful and well informed. The track runs down the delightful Dart Valley - lovely. Railway buffs and families alike will love it. Throw in a butterfly farm and an otter sanctuary and you have a super day out.

I went on the Santa Special with my daughter & two granddaughters last December. The whole day was just so much fun - the entertainment both on & off Santa's train was excellent. The staff in the shop & the cafe were friendly & helpful -and my granddaughters were both thrilled with their presents from Santa.

If I was rating the train journey and staff it would be 5*. But unfortunately the cafe and toilets let it down. They felt dirty and there was a horrible toilet smell. The cafe staff were not wearing gloves when serving ice cream cones.
The steam train was fab as was the bus. A great morning when the weather was not so great.

Nice facilities, staff helpful only downside was the toilet seats were too small for the toilets and the bins blocked sitting on the toilets comfortably. If I'd eaten more cake from the coffee shop I wouldn't have fitted

Lovely steam railway a short walk from Totes mainline train station. Some lovely scenery along the journey to Buckfastleigh. I would recommend getting the 3in1 ticket which also gives you entry to Totnes Rare breed animal farm and Buckfast Otter and butterfly sanctuary. A great day for all the family!

Lovely time on the train and attractions grandchildren really enjoyed the day. Only downside was the cafe not opening until 10am and train departed at 10am! after a long journey really needed a drink.
