Made a reservation for 20 and 28 showed up and they freaked out and were not accommodating as we were being patient and some of our people left. Very disappointed in the managers attitude. The service was excellent as they took care of us but it was a rough start. The servers made sure we were taken care of.

I was looking for a place for good margaritas and chips and salsa and I hit the jackpot. Sam was so friendly and really made my time the best. Working full time and going to school, I needed a minute and tequila shot and a laugh. Sam was the perfect girl to make it happen. Looking forward to coming back and trying more things on the menu.

I absolutely loved this place! It was so authentic in how homemade it was. High and flavor and layers of flavor. I may have to just go back to Austin just to have some more Pelons I loved this place. If you like queso I definitely recommend the queso deluxe. It has guacamole spiced beef and pico in it lots of good flavor. The carne guisada taco is my absolute favorite. I could probably eat 10 of those. The staff is very friendly and accommodating to help you figure out what you would like to eat. The shop is very quaint and beautiful. it was a little bit of a colder night, rain was getting ready to come in. So we couldn't sit outside but there is room to sit outside. It would be very beautiful with the large chandeliers and the lights in the trees. This is an absolute must stop when you're in Austin.

I gave Pelons 3 stars because I can only rate the service and not the food. I did not realize there was Tex Mex near my hotel so I was excited this evening when I saw the place on my way to BBQ across the street. I first went to the bar at Pelons and waited a few mins and was never acknowledged by the bartender and there was no one else sitting at the bar. So, I went to sit outside and I waited for 10 mins before deciding to go inside and grab a menu. The hostess chided me for seating myself, which is a little understandable. I pointed to where I was sitting outside and after about another 5 mins, a waitress came through the area and asked the table right next to me if they needed anything. Then she walked right by my table without even so much as a "hello", or, "I'll be right back to take your order." Nothing.
That's when I got up and left. I may give them a second chance the next time I'm in town because the food and drinks looked yummy. Maybe my patience was short after a long day.

Such a welcoming Tex Mex restaurant and tequila bar in the heart of downtown Austin! Both my times here during my stay were absolutely amazing, great drink specials, amazingly tasteful food as well as great customer service from our bartender Mallory. Both times we had her and even when I came back by myself before my flight out, the other staff members were quick to redirect my lost self to the appropriate open bar. As I said, the other staff members were very hospitable and friendly. The upstairs tequila bar is your typical dive bar with a nice old timey patio feel over looking the corner of the street but the inside bar and restaurant was nicely remodeled from the looks of it, clean bar top and great tasting food and margaritas. Easily a staple for travels such as myself to come by and see and possible make your daily stop during your time here in Austin. I ll definetly make a point to come back next year on my next trip.

First time to Austin and this place was awesome!!! Great staff and us being newbies to the city he answered alot of our sill questions with a smile on his face. Very helpful just wish we remembered his name. Either way Bravo!!! Will definitely return next time in the area.

If you re looking for a great Tex Mex option this place is perfect. Cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining options. Delicious food, friendly service and reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Stopped in for an early dinner yesterday. I was by myself so I decided to sit at the bar. I was greeted immediately by a lovely bartender with a beautiufl smile and adorable accent by the name of Ashley. She was was warm and welcoming and very attenative to my needs. Apparently she was training, but I would have never known, due to her kniowledge of the cocktails and the food menu. I had the enchilladas, which she suggested and boy was I glad I took her advice. I've had mexican food all across the country and these were soem of the best. I highly recommend this establishment, and if you don't mind sitting at the bar, I recommend it for the service and if your lucky hopefully Ashley will be working.

I wasnt expecting much but this place surprised me. Menu is limited but the carnitas enchiladas were incredible!

We asked the hostess for limes and she went to the bar and grabbed them out of a container full of sliced limes with her bare hand...maybe I am being picky, but I don't like people using their bare hands to handle food items. Tongs or a fork, maybe? We got the feeling she did it because she was annoyed at the request. She also seemed annoyed when we were being seated and asked for a table in the other room, away from the door. Aside from those minor complaints, the food was just okay. Waitress was friendly.

Pelons is amazing! My bachelorette party and I went there for dinner and everything was perfect. The margaritas were delicious as well as the fajitas. Samantha was our server and she went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of!

My girlfriend and I stopped here for a quick bite before we went to 6th street for our 5 year anniversary. We loved it! Nice atmosphere, the food was delicious, and Shelly our server was awesome.
If you're in Austin, you gotta try this place out!!!

Jack was such an amazing server! He helped me and my fraternity 10 brothers out with the most amazing service. We were nervous as we didn't call far enough ahead of time, but when we arrived, we were served with the utmost care. This guy should be a manager or something honestly. Also please tell him that he can call me anytime!

I only come here for lunch because I work nearby. They have changed their menu and only provide the condensed "event" menu that used to only be brought out for things like ACL and SXSW. The lunch specials are gone. So instead of a fajita quesadilla with two sides for $8.99 you're paying the full $12.99 for the appetizer version which doesn't even come with sides. And if you want a teaspoon of sour cream and guac that is another $2.50. I'm not sure if that's common at most Mexican restaurants, but it's common at Pelons. The kicker is I occasionally ask for a bag of chips and salsa to take home, but there's a charge for that now too. Perhaps this is standard service for dinner, but it was not so for lunch.

I rate the place 2 stars after this experience because the food quality is still good. The service for lunch is always subpar and today it was what I expected.

Decorated cute with indoor, outdoor & bar seating. Ordered carry-out. Staff couldn't even tell me if diet soda was available. Advised 15 minutrs until ready. Waited 48 minutes. Coukd hve sat down & eaten! Bartender was quite rude. Food was good but a little pricey. I will likely not return.

This was he first spot we stopped in Austin and boy did it disappoint. The server was absent minded and took so long to do anything that other tables were sat and fed and left before we even began our meal.
The chips and salsa provided were pretty tasty and I'm glad it was there because I used that salsa to give every other dish a ordered any flavour at all. The tacos I ordered were fairly bland and the shrimp and grits was basically a bowl of salt.
Judging by the other reviews (why we came here in the first place) we just got super unlucky with our combination of server and kitchen staff on the day we were there.

Absolutely amazing spot ! Great vibe ; great music and Bartender , (I believe Jay) super friendly, prompt and makes the most amazing drinks! I definitely recommend checking this place out.

Homey interior and beautiful patio. Perfect to sip on a marg to celebrate the weekend with some chips and queso.

Shelly was magnificent! Such a golden heart & beautiful person such a shame we dont have her where im from! Wonderful place, BEAUTIFUL area, so inviting and the food was so DELICIOUS!! top notch place! A MUST TRY when in Austin!!!!! Will DEFINITELY be coming back for more!!! Great food at reasonable prices. Brought my wife and two teenage sons and everyone liked their meal. I enjoyed the spicy chicken enchiladas, my wife had the chicken crispy tacos, one son had a carnita taco and the other had a plain cheese quesadilla. Our server Matt shared some unique Austin trivia and sights to see. I'd go back to Pelons.

Went 30 minutes before close. Staff was very friendly and didn't seem to mind. I had a house margarita. Nothing too fancy. Had the taco plate for dinner. Was awesome with good flavor. If you are a queso fan you have to try theirs for sure! Decent pricing as well.

Went in last week and was served by this very tall Australian girl named Ashely,I was astonished at the quality service and her extensive knowledge of the fajita range they had on offer. Do yourselves a favor go in and see Ashely and ask her to throw another shrimp on the barbie .

Came here for dinner. Seated and ordered taken quickly, and food did not take long either. I ordered the verde tacos and they were amazing, I would definitely come back here to eat again and would recommend to others. Good atmosphere and friendly staff

Checked this place few days ago and tried their steak fajitas and quest deluxe. Good portion and steak was cooked just right! Server was really attentive as well and the host Samantha was extraordinary hospital, she totally made our night.

This is a newer version of an old Austin Mexican restaurant that was established in the early 1930's. I have been to the new restaurant twice now, the wait staff are exceptional, the drinks are great. The food is, in my opinion, eclectic Mexican, and very tasty, worth a try..

My favorite Tex-Mex place in the Central Texas area. Reasonable prices (for downtown Austin), excellent service, and delicious, delicious food. I have been here a few times and have always been more than satisfied. The area around the restaurant can be a bit sketchy but don't let that keep you from a superb culinary experience.

We ordered to go, no dressing came with our salads, rendering them inedible, the size of the elotes are a joke especially with how much they were. We spent too much money on two salads and a few sides and got cosmically small portions.

Smaller bar. Jay was the most charismatic bartender I've ever met. He was more than happy to suggest amazing drinks based on my preferences. I would definitely recommend it.

I now consider Pelons to be my golden standard for tex mex. These guys don t miss the mark on anything. The drinks are strong, the flavors are bold, and the servers are there when you need them. Honestly, everything I tried was eyes-roll-back-in-the-head good: the salsa, the queso, the quesadillas, the MARGS. A friend and I shared a pitcher of the skinny margarita and it was one of the most well-balanced margs i ve ever had. Next time i m in Austin, I m definitely making a stop at Pelons.

None of the better TexMex in Austin. Sunday Brunch is pretty good too.

Visited here for dinner on a recent trip to Austin and so glad we wondered in! The historic building is fabulous and the food and service was amazing. It offered inside or rooftop dining and the roof top is a beautiful natural setting with very romantic little lights all around. Only wish I had gotten better pictures. I enjoyed the chicken quesadilla and tortilla soup, would definitely recommend and plan to go again when I'm in Austin next!

Food is pretty average. Service here is horrible and has been forever. I forgot why I hadn't been here in ages, now I remember.

3 stars since the Austin Mule was awesome. Did not try their food yet. Last 2 stars maybe be given after trying their food someday or if the owners invite me with some special after reading this review.
