my perfect store great shirts wear well wash well one stop shopping

I don't really write reviews but my experience at paul Stuart was so bad that I went out my way to write this review. The customer service there is terrible. For example I walked in because I liked an item I saw on the mannequin on display. I went inside to inquire about this particular item (coat) I had to look for customer service. When i asked about the coat the young lady told me that the item is upstairs.when i arrived upstairs a young man maybe in his mid 30s greeted me with a forced smile and told me how may i help you. I told him that I was interested in the in the item i saw on display. When he showed me the coat i wasnt sure if it was the same one and said it looked different. He raised his voice in a aggressive tone sounding defensive saying how so? I told him the item looked fitted on the mannequin to which he resplied in a sarcastic passive aggressive manner saying we pin the outfits you see on display, we gotta make money right? I responded telling i was not aware how everything works behind the scenes in clothing retail. He replied saying everyone knows that and walked away. I felt bad but tried to shrug it off and was looking at the other items he came back pointing the pins out on other mannequins and i thanked him for the info and walked away. He then proceeded to follow me around the store which discouraged me from shopping and made me walk out feeling humiliated. I do not like pulling the race card but he was rude from the top and following me around the store which raises an alarm in my book and this is the first time I'm experiencing this in my life which may have been why i took it so hard.

Great merchandise. One of the last great NY retailers for dress clothing and shoes

Great customer service. Was looking for a very last minute suit for a party. Went to Saks etc. and this place was by far the best selection. They fitted me and found a shirt within 20 minutes. And they are getting alterations done within 5 days for me. Prices are not near as high as other places and quality is fantastic. Really nice assortment of other clothes too!!!!

Fantastic selection, particularly their incredible Phineas Cole line that is unlike anything else out there.

Cool "Mad Men" vibe given off right when you walk in. I liked the large amount of cloth and patterns.

I was fairly disappointed when I visited Paul Stuart while on a business trip to NYC earlier this week. I was looking for a particular style shoe, and I thought that I would check in on Paul Stuart's offerings for this shoe. The sales rep was very arrogant. He acted as if my style requests were nonsense because Paul Stuart didn't have what I wanted. I had a budget of up to $1500 for a new pair of shoes if I found what I was looking for, so it wasn't like I didn't have the money to shop there. But, Paul Stuart didn't have what I wanted. I was talked down to and treated as if I was bothering the sales rep when there wasn't even anyone else for him to help. It's sad because I've always admired Paul Stuart's footwear. I will limit myself to online shopping with Paul Stuart or just move along to some other brand.

Very friendly, professional service. Good place to haunt at sale time.

Beware doing business with these clowns, whose upper level management all seem to have attended Yale and enjoy the odd sport of
playing games. I found this out while trying to
return a shirt which had not been fully described in their catalogue. It took a month to straighten the matter out, while being put through much nonsense. The result was I shredded my Stuart credit card and never did
business with them again, in store or on line.

Classic clothes for the well heeled. You will need to make these clothes last because after a trip here, you will not be able to afford any more...

The sales rep was a clown and snob. Never gonna step in this store or recommend it to anyone.

They have good collection but my shopping experience there was worst of my life. Particularly customer service need some training in customer service I felt hostile there. The minute I walked in store one rep started shadowing me giving notorious look like he is watching as I am going to steel something and I think he was assuming I am just there for window shopping after several minutes I asked him for sizes and he was rushing me like I am waiting his time assuming sizes don t gonna work. Moreover I was about to walk out of here but liked some stuff and asked him put it on side at this time he started treating me little better I don t know if it s just NYC boutique store where lot of people just walk into check stuff even if it s true that s why the store is there so Ppl can come and browse if they like something then they buy. The other side I feel rep was Kinda racist and their work environment has no customer service vibe this was my first experience with them in store I have shopped with them before online but my personal in store experience was horrible so I decide I may not shop with them in future. I advise if you walk in be mindful you may get bad treatment.

My favorite men's clothing store. Elegant but not overstated.

To any and all potential/future customers to Paul Stuart, NYC/Madison x 45th:
Please be advised that as a former customer and patron of the above mentioned store, I feel compelled to relate the following experiences that I had recently with this store. Several years ago I purchased custom made shirts at a cost of $400 a piece and returned several weeks ago to request that the collars on the shirts - which had been worn out - could be replaced. I was told by the manager that Paul Stuart no longer fabricated Men's shirts on the premises, and that they sent the shirts out. He was not sure that he could get the same material and was also unsure of how long it would take the third party vendor to repair the shirts. Since I wear these shirts for my job I was thoroughly disappointed, and somewhat inconvenienced. The flagrant lack of regard for customer satisfaction and customer loyalty by the staff at Paul Stuart was a disappointment, and very different from my experience there previously.
- There was no offer to have the shop tailor attempt to secure the fabric and repair the shirts as a courtesy
- There was no consideration as to any responsibility they might have had to at least attempt to remedy the situation.. since they were the original manufacturer
- There was no offer made for assistance in any way, and the situation was just dismissed and disregarded out of hand.. with a screw you attitude
Therefore $1200 of custom shirts fabricated at Paul Stuart's several years ago are now essentially useless.
When I shopped there several years ago the staff was courteous, engaging, and would bend over backwards for any service they could render the customer. However, at present all that has changed, and there is a new Teflon attitude at Paul Stuart's NYC. Presently I would recommend anyone considering high quality custom shirts to have them made elsewhere.

Last Christmas I received a gift card for Paul Stuarts and went to use the gift card and was told that a minimum requirement of 5 shirts had to be ordered. At that point I approached the manager for a refund on the gift card and he refused. I urge anybody considering doing business with Paul Stuart to consider the above facts. I also feel their merchandise is overpriced - and can be gotten elsewhere from a different manufacturer at a more economical purchase price.

Beautiful store, so classic. This is like for only the elite of the preppy world.

I'm a menswear fan and Paul Stuart carries quality shoes and clothes leaning towards American traditional than most other brands of menswear.

I purchased a pair of soft leather loafers and socks on my first visit here. The service was attentive and no pressure. Paul Stuart main line suits were too baggy for my taste but Phineas Cole line is where I'd spend my money.

Prices are not reasonable too high. Everything selling just ordered labels or reprinted name for Paul Stuart. Very bad return/exchange policy.

Great clothes and a very distinctive look. VERY pricey however. And note to the NY store--you really need to have the suits sales guys NOT HOVER 10 feet away while I look at suits. No, 15 feet or 20 feet is not cool either. Have them stay at the top of the stairs and WAIT for me to ask for their help if/when I need it. greet me, acknolwledge me..then LEAVE ME.
Everytime I go there, i tell them 'no thanks, I know where I'm going, and they hover like they're afraid I'm stuffing 8 suits down the front of my hockey jacket and feeing for the exit. Please tell the staff to BACK OFF. Its the biggest turn off having them hover 15 feet away and watch us like they're the Secret Service. it makes me leave the store without spending any money too.

I just had a custom suit made and it's awful. The jacket is too baggy and long and it looks like a suit from the 1980s--very tired with no style. Paul Stuart is not for someone who wants to look current. I feel like I was ripped off!!!!

I wish I lived in NY just to shop there more often. Gorgeous everything; shirts, ties, jackets, suits, socks. Very reasonably priced.
Great customer service at every level.

I checked this store out for my son, it has an amazing line of men's accessories, shoes and clothes.

Amazing experience! Keith assisted me with chosing outfits to suit my needs. Will go back!

"Customer last" - that seems to be the motto of Paul Stuart. I intended to make a purchase, but needed an elementary input from the sales reps first. Not receiving it, I sent a Facebook message. I never received any response. A week ago I sent an email. This was ignored, too. An acquaintance of mine recently made an overseas purchase from them, they sent him something else. Guess how Paul Stuart approaches his subsequent emails and Facebook messages.

I am a really old person who still commutes to work every day and runs a very large company. I have been a customer of Paul Stuart for 59 Years. I never had a problem until the company was sold to the new owners. Michael Ostrow, the third generation and last member of the founding family recently left and the store has taken on a different way of doing business...for the worse. I recently visited the store to buy a blazer, some sport jackets and a couple of suits. I was told that my shoulders were too rounded to be fitted and I would need made to order garments. I was also told that the tailor shop is no longer permitted to perform the same alterations they have been doing for me for many years even if I paid for it. Do you think I am being conned or do you really think i am the hunchback of Notre Dame (or of Paul Stuart). What arrogance! How embarrassing and insulting to be told this in front of the entire sales staff on the second floor.

Great store for men. Been shopping here casually since 1970.

Very pricey, but the quality is worth it, plus you can find good sales and markdowns if you look closely. I love the styling of the clothing they offer.

This company is making fake checks to rob other lower companies what is up with that

I've shopped here since my grandfather brought me when Abercrombie and Fitch still sold shotguns and canoes next door, and only here since 1985. Pity I live in sandals in the tropics: It;s impossible to wear out their clothes.
To their credit, their shops in Tokyo & Osaka... understand that some people- like me- have different proportions
There's nothing in the store that is not reasonable for some occasion. I read the two complaints about less flexible tailoring and hope the new [Japanese] owners focus on quality. No one who shops there is looking at price tags. So keep the service level up.
