I appreciate the opportunity to work at PPS, it has sincerely been one of the best work experiences I've had. My co-workers have always been easy to work with and management has done well do keep me in a consistent position with enough work hours to maintain going to school and support myself here in Portland. I honestly could not have achieved getting a Bachelor s degree without this job, so for that I am thankful and grateful to the folks at PPS.

I worked for this pacific patrol, and it's the worst company to work for. They do not communicate with their officers, they take more clients and not enough officer's, they work the officers to exhaustion and don't recognize their work. Supervisor's and other officers come to work with bad hygiene. When you are an officer your uniform is supposed to be clean and pressed and officers are suppose to come to work with their face clean cut which they do not. I do not recommend to anyone to work for them. You can do better than Pacific Patrol.
A great starting job, or place to climb the ladder. You'll be surrounded by fantastic people, performing an important job. Be it looking for security, or a job, PPS is fair and honest. The owner is a great guy and he has an eye for the good ones. You can't go wrong here.
I was a former employee here and left on good terms, using this job as a stepping stone for something bigger. I started working here as an unarmed officer and within a couple years I was promoted to bike officer, lead bike officer, supervisor, and watch commander. The supervisors and management that I worked with are very aware of hard work and good work ethic.
There are a lot of opportunities for overtime here, but you are by no means forced to work long hour like I'm reading in some of the comments. I had said no many times to overtime and never was looked at differently.
One great thing about this company is the diversity in the workforce and the diversity in the type of job you can do. For instance, you could be a bike officer and literally get paid to exercise and see a lot of downtown Portland, you could be a concierge at some of Portland's many condominiums, you could work some awesome events like musicfest northwest, flicks on the bricks, and other awesome events. (I had the chance to see Weezer while I was working here, which was just one of many of the perks of the job)
All in all I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a steady job, looking for hours to work, or looking to build experience for something else. You will learn a lot of good qualities and good work ethic that will help you in your future endeavors.
If you are seeking employment do not go to this place based on their word through text or email. Get someone on the phone to verify every word they send you. If not they will waste your time. They will send you whatever you need to hear to get you through the door.
I have worked here for approximately 3 years and have worked for several other security companies and can honestly say that this is one of the best companies i have worked for yet. You never have to fight to get paid and are paid on time or even early depending on what day the payday lands on. this may seem normal but, sadly i have had to fight to get paid at mos other companies and jobs that i have worked.
On top of all of that all of the upper management take an actual interest in how you are doing and have basically an open door policy where you can go in and talk to them at any time. Management is also not afraid to go and hit the field when they need to, including both the CEO and the President.
There are a lot of great people that work for the company as well, and i have met a lot of great friends that i have had for years working here.
I will have to say though, the one thing i like about this company the most is the ACTUAL ability to move up in the company. They always promote from within, so when you come in, supervisors, management etc have all been in the field many times and worked most if not all of the shifts that are available and have a vast array of knowledge when it comes to both sites and job duties. If one person is unable to answer your question then they can quickly get you the answer that you need.
Overall I love the company that i work for, and all of the people that have worked here.
Your experience with PPS will be provide you with the tools and knowledge to be a leader in various types of work.
My time at PPS has been amazing because of the leadership qualities I have learned through working in team based environments and being an active role model in high prestigious locations.
The employees and upper management treat you with respect and listen to what you have to say. There is a open door policy that allows you to ask any questions you may have and/or any ideas on work proficiency.
A PPS career will also help you gain the understanding and skills of pursuing a law enforcement career. Both the owner of PPS and the president are former police officers with many years of field experience.
I have been working at PPS for almost 4 years, and would recommend it to anyone looking to get into the security field. PPS only promotes from within, so there is plenty of opportunity to move up if you can prove yourself. Management has an open door policy (even the President and the CEO are readily available), and the Supervisors work every bit as hard as the security officers.
I have read through the bad reviews on this site, and most seem pretty baseless. Complaints from people who never actually worked for the company, and claims that I know are completely false (in 4 years I have been paid on time, and in full every time). PPS has been in business for over 14 years and has employed over 1600 people, so 7 unsatisfied employees is a remarkably low number.
I won t pretend that it isn t hard work, but I promise you get out what you put in. There is a TON of work in security right now, so if you need steady work or like the idea of overtime you came to the right place. They run 24/7, and are very flexible when it comes to scheduling; so you can work shifts that fit around your schedule.
I've been working for this company for nearly five years. I enjoy working with the people here. This company only promotes from the inside allowing for a lot of opportunities.
I've been employed as a reports analyst at PPS for a couple of months now. Upper management has been more than willing to provide me with the help and resources I need to succeed in this position. I feel valuable in my position and like I am making a positive contribution to the business.
In addition, I've met a lot of kind people in the office and have had several positive interactions with security officers. So far, I have enjoyed my experience working for this company.
I have worked here for a few months now and have nothing but nice things to say about my experience. This company is prompt in their responses and always friendly and communicative. Upper management has an open door policy that allows you to speak with them at any point during business hours.I have really enjoyed working here and would recommend employment with PPS.
This is a great place to work. The management sets high standards, and also sets training into place to help employees succeed. Co-workers are supportive of one another and it is a tight-knit community.
I can NOT believe how I was treated tonight by a pacific patrol services officer after witnessing an assault ! I was made to be the bad guy. Time to climb to the top of the ladder #wrong #pacificpatrolservices #pdx #portland #portlandpolice
BECAUSE WHEN I CALLED THEM FOR HELP TO GET SOME ONE OUT OF MY BUILDING THAT WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE BUILDING THEY DID NOT EVER SHOWED UP TO GET HIM OUT
PPS has to be the worst company I've ever worked for. They have many clients, but not enough officers to patrol. The co-workers are great people. Very underpaid for the amount of work. They call to see if you can fill in many times in one day. When you quit they don't respect your leaving like other companies. When I quit because I couldn't stand riding a bike for 8hrs in 98f heat; They responded with "your from Mexico, the heat shouldn't be a problem." That's unacceptable and find that extremely racist. Just because someone comes from a hotter place/different color in the world doesn't mean they are just heat stoke proof
I find this company takes pride in their work and ensures they have a positive and safe environment for their officers. Many supervisors work to make life easier and more efficient for not only their employees- but more importantly- their clients and the general public. Also Jeff Otwell is my favorite supervisor. He goes out of his way to make sure his clients are satisfied with his work, and PPS (if you see this) GIVE HIM A RAISE.
Yesterday as I sat down in pioneer square where I ve eaten lunch for over 15 years! One of your racist rent a cops called the police on my for sitting while black. I would like to file a formal complaint about the racially motivated way she indicated that she was trained by the city of Portland. As a former employee of over 13 years I can promise you that nothing in the city s charter allows your so called cops to harass and intimidate people based on race. Has she did her job she would have allowed me to finish what I was doing and move on like an adult. Had it not been race motivated she wouldn t have lied and told the police I was belligerent and combative when you can hear me on camera hearing her trying to get the police to come shoot me! This has to stop! I should be able to have lunch while black and not have racist try to ruin my day because I am happy and they are miserable.
Worst interview I ve ever had, it felt like an interrogation. He kept insisting on asking me over and over if I could pass a drug test, because they had recently had a large number of applicants not pass. I told him that was not the case, but he insisted on asking me throughout the whole interview. I work for one of the largest universities in Oregon, and in my normal work environment, most of the behavior expressed by the employees of pps would be intolerable and possibly punishable.
Worked for this company for 2 years. With any job it had it's bad days a good days but it was a great company to work for. I started as a on site security officer picking up random shifts then moved up into bike patrol and eventually moved into the office. The work was hard because the standards were high. Every employee that got hired was told of the high expectations, possible long hours and 24 hour service we provide. Most of the people who complain about this job were lazy and didn't want to work the hours we provided, even tho most agreed to work anything we had as long as they got hours. This company will always try to work with your schedule, but people also have to remember they have a company to run. This is a great job if you have what it takes.
This place is unprofessional, I interviewed two weeks ago no body calls back and the lady at the front desk has no idea what is going on, the man who does the interviews does not keep his word or punctuality, I've been waiting forever for my start time and drug screen location, walk away don't even bother interviewing with this company
WORST PLACE EVER!! No I havnt worked there BUT interviewing with them was horrible. FIRST OF ALL DONT LIE ABOUT THE JOB POSTING. I specifically applied for a desk job it said starting at 15 dollars. NO THEY SAID IT WAS 12 dollars. Plus front desk didn't look happy working there. The lady who did my interview was just plan fake and rude.
Working for Pacific Patrol Services is one of the best and most understanding companies I've ever worked for that offers by far the most opportunities I am more then honored to call myself an employee of the company and if I was to ever choose to leave in the future my opinion would still be the same. #pps4life
Josh (dirty blond with glasses and a mustache) hired me and my girlfriend on March 5th. They told us to come in on the 6th for paid bicycle training. We arrived about 10:30am we checked in with the receptionist with the knee brace on his leg (short curly hair). When we came to our bike training class Michelle (works with upper management) handed us our bike helmets. Tyler was our bicycle trainer. We didn t leave until 6:30pm. Another coworker we were training with was Timothy. I m not sure if he got his check, but as for me and my girlfriend it has been 2 months of calling and trying to talk to someone in management. The first time we called about the checks, the receptionist asked us for out names, email, and phone numbers. Then next time we called, the receptionist acted like he didn t recognize us and told us we were not in their system. We called many more times and spoke with another receptionist Anthony, he ultimately told us that management was not going to get a hold of us and they were not going to pay us. In the state of Oregon, you must be cut a check within 2 days of leaving a job. A terrible company to work for and will not pay you until you sue them, which I plan to do. We turned in our bike helmets a little too early I guess (March 8th, about 11am). The reason we had to leave the job was because we just moved here with low funds and could not afford the parking or train cost every day. Tyler (our bike trainer) told us there was $5 parking which turns out is non-existent. For anyone applying for this job, DON T! They will not pay you and will charge you $200 something for DPST training, Finger prints $21, parking is $14+ per day. They promise you a Tri-Met pass discount in the interview, but they won t tell you until later that it takes 30 days before you qualify for it. If you do apply you could be spending up to $300+ just to start the job. Make sure to get everything in writing especially your pay rate because they will try to mull over that in the interview. Good luck to the future employees that dare to work for this company and for the contractors that hire them on. This establishment is filled with unethical and very unprofessional group of people. I have worked security for 6 years and I have never encountered such terrible practices. This place should be investigated and shut down.
Pacific Patrol Services were fast to offer me a job on the spot. I started out covering for a short term event, moved to becoming a bike officer, then vehicle patrol, and then became a supervisor. All within a few months. If you put in the work, there's plenty of opportunity to move up. I really enjoy my job and working for Pacific Patrol Services.
Worked as a supervisor. Basically quit because of ethics that comes from the company and the soon to be owner. employee are treated like dirt. No respect over worked and always bothered. Always looking to give write ups. Some don't take lunch . don't file boli or law when it comes to pay or breaks. Many did not get paid and when quit took long to get final pay checks. Company acts as of they own you.
Worked here for three years and it was a rewarding experience. They have a large number of clients, which means they are always busy. And for good reason, they are good at what they do. It's definitely the type of job where you get what you put into it.
My time at Pacific Patrol Services was decent. I worked for them for about 2 and a half years. Due to some recent incidents that occurred and they did an interval review on was my final straw. They wanted to sweep these incidents under the rug so nothing could come of it. They hire some of the worst people. So when they have good employees it goes unnoticed. We are just a number too them. Communicating with anyone is poor. Supervisor say they will get back to you and completely forget about it and you get in trouble because they forgot. Management is alright. They don t always take responsibility for their actions or actions of the officers they poorly trained. I enjoyed the site I worked at. Got to meet some really cool people. They have plenty of OT opportunities. Pay is alright, not the best and definitely not competitive No room for growth. I gave them 16 days notice of me leaving and refused to pay me on my final day of working. I got paid on their pay schedule. I ve already submitted a wage claim with BOLI. I would not recommend this job if you want to grow in Security or even as a stepping stones towards Law Enforcement. If you want a summer job this is the company for you. Please don t make the mistake I made and stay with them for a long time.
It is fast paced honest work. The employers have always been fair and equitable, and pay special attention to trends in the industry that affect employees. I have learned an incredible amount of professional skills, not just relating to the security field but to business as a whole, including customer service, client relations, time-management, and extensive computer skills.
When I started 5 years ago, I was just looking for a steady job to cover the down time in-between contract work. What I found was a job that paid me to exercise riding a bike and had hours that I could pick up on my days off if I didn't want to worry about a contract paying me before a bill came due.
Since then I moved from a bike security officer into the Office after a position came open in tech support.
For people that are looking at working here, I'd remind you that we do work outside no matter the weather. If you don't want to be called about getting more hours when they come up you just have to let the office know, and to remember that you have to qualify and get a DPSST license to work in Oregon as a Security Officer.
do not work for this company! they will use and abuse you and seems like they are totally unaware or just straight liars! they will not properly train you for just a general security guard most like me only had the required state certification training and if you get the pleasure of working as a member of office staff you will most always not have breaks and lunches! it is an easy job though if you enjoy sitting without moving for hours! you also have to watch each pay stub and make sure you are not being ripped off. WORST JOB DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE.
I would like to say that my time with PPS was a decent experience. The work environment and employees are great. If you have good work ethic and aren't afraid of challenge, then PPS is defiantly a place to grow and succeed in!
This company is horrible. They treat their employees like garbage and pay them very poorly. They don t pay employees for travel time between sites that are changed last minute with no warning.
I've worked for this company 6 months now, I have no complaints as they've been more than flexible about accommodating any requests or concerns one might have. Management are friendly and easy to communicate with. The actual owner is in his office daily if needed and supervisors all carry work phones for convenient contact. I would recommend this job to anyone looking for solid full time work. Do a good job for them and they will take good care of you.
