What is not to love about New Seasons? This is just like every New Seasons, wonderful selection, fresh produce, friendly staff. While this particular location is a bit small, it has everything I need, plus there is a parking lot on the roof!

There are some things at New Seasons that you can t get at other stores. My roommates shop there and create delicious meals at home. Out of all the options available they have the best quality produce generally speaking. For example my sister s brother in-law put together an excellent meal including brisket, mashed potatoes and zucchini.

This New Seasons is a genuine neighborhood grocer, accepting the premise that it reflects that neighborhood's personality and economic strata. Hawthorne New Seasons, a mere block and a half from PNW heavy hitter Fred Meyers, must have done their research, bcuz in a time of projected growth insanity and inflated property values, they moved into what has to be one of the pricier startup arenas a couple years ago and seem to be going strong. With an enviable selection in produce and a real commitment to featuring brands with a strong focus on sustainability, there's generally no going wrong if ur in a hurry and just need something quick, where at other stores u might have to bust out the smartphone to get down to Monsanto being the ultimate beneficiary of ur hard earned dollar. While this can certainly affect the bottom line at checkout, the specials and sale items can always be depended on to bring the total down to something more manageable.
Physically, the Hawthorne store is a marvel of feng shui ergonomics and space utilization...using a near full block storefront and clever building designing, they even managed a parking lot on top, very helpful on weekends in parking space deficient upper Hawthorne. Staff is always helpful, tho the occasional days when the homeless gather in higher numbers under the awnings and the inevitable bad apple comes mushily rolling thru does seem to have an impact on the original "cheerier than thou" shine of their first year. I have learned to expect a little momentary heat those days i can't be bothered to shave or prep, which lasts until the first produce question or manufacturing query...

All in all, this is now my favoritie place to grocery shop, something of an admission for someone who over the course of 20-30 years likely spent near $250k at the Hawthorne Fred Meyers...I'm still a regular shopper there but now it tends to be near close or if i am budgeting a bit closer to the bone;)

The social distancing is a disaster. Confusion about who is in what line. People pushing back into the aisles while waiting to check out is a disaster.

A rude woman pushed past all who were waiting to check out. And no one stopped her. I will not be returning any time soon. Fix the check out situation.

Put up a sign that states' line starts here' with an arrow. It was the worst COVID organization I have seen in PDX since this all started.

I love New Seasons! This one however is a bit small and is missing several key items (esp. in bulk) where they tell me another store has it. Yeah, yeah, but I want it NOWWWW...

Like always ample bike parking and right close to my house!

Went shopping for the first time since 4th of July weekend - someone was sitting at the front door as if they were limiting entry, but the store was thronged, no one social distancing, no one sanitizing baskets, a woman hovering next to me in the check out line. Don't shop here, it doesn't feel safe and they are putting their employees at risk for minimum wage.

Another nice New Seasons to shop at. I think the employees are usually genuinely friendly and smiling (even though I don't really care if they aren't). I do appreciate the checker who asks the daily trivia question, he should get a raise.

This store is incredibly tiny, overpriced and management does not treat workers right. During their active union campaign, the company openly retaliated against workers and brushed it off like business as usual. You re better off shopping somewhere else. They are on the forefront of gentrification as well.

This business is terrible for the environment. They promote a sceme called "organic" foods. The sceme is that these foods are "better" because they are grown on land that hasn't been used for conventional farming. What land hasn't been used? The wilderness. These people are cutting down the wilderness to feel like the products they buy make them better than other people. This is killing the earth. More and more wild areas are destroyed as this sceme grows. The people who shop here are eliminating the environments of wild animals, which causes extinction. It's extremely selfish. And they make you think it is GOOD for the earth. Pure evil.

Locally owned health foods and groceries. Sort of the local equivalent of a Trader Joe's/Whole Foods/Berkeley Bowl. Check out the ready-made foods in the deli and ask for a sample if you're unsure. Staff encourages customers to taste and try before they buy. Friendly helpful staff too!
