I seen stuff about Slavery and the slave trade and all that.
Worthwhile to see but not a place would go to more than once a year.
I usually love a visit here but when I returned home from my trip I found unexplained charges to my account. I tried to resolve it over the course of 3weeks with many unanswered calls and emails only to be finally told that they don't see the charges on their end and refused a refund for the money they stole from me. I'm very hurt and disappointed. I referred ALOT of people to this museum and am very surprised at my treatment. I will not be going back.
Made me wanna cry, great book store inside. Black owned
Such a sad part of our history, but a great tribute to those that fought for freedom!
It was an amazing place. Am so glad the kiddos and I went!
A memorable walk back to a time most have forgotten. Would recommend for millennials and younger to experience the past, appreciate the present and look forward to the future!
Wonderful exhibition on the history of underground railroad.
Excellent experience to visit the Cincinnati Freedom Center. The history of Slavery past and present are displayed here. The Underground Railroad was a real sad part of history. Must see and learn about the slave trade that affected our country. The historical evidence helps us to learn about the path that led us to today. The African Americans who have overcome this long history of slavery are true survivors. It is inspirational. The present day stories are shockingly common. Interesting Rosa Parks exhibit. Wonderful theater has a short documentary. Wonderful paintings are displayed.
Go! If you have the opportunity to go to this museum, do it! Not only is it educational, it gives you a glimpse of America's history that is not taught in schools. Teachers can use what is seen at the museum and take it back to the classroom for open and candid discussions. The museum is open all year round.
Amazing museum filled with historical accounts as well as the struggles for freedom that continue to this day. I spent 3 hours here and didn't have enough time to see everything!
My family and I start every Thanksgiving here. We run the 10k Turkey Trot before sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner. I love the city of Cincinnati
Very informative and beautiful. There is art, interactive pieces, and it really draws you in and keeps you thinking.
Great place. Must see for learning about our nation's history.
Very informative and reflective narrative on an extremely unpleasant time in U.S history, highly recommend
Very impressive establishment, well designed and informative..... staff could use a few customer training courses......
A lot of important historical artifacts and stories
Very worthwhile to visit. A very interesting look at the horrors of the slave trade. I would have enjoyed seeing more about the people that were able to flee slavery, but frankly, the experience for most was a lifetime of whips and chains.
A must visit for all ages! We all have something to learn in respect to this ongoing struggle!
This Museum was absolutely Amazing. If you are someone who likes to take their time in a Museum and absorb absolutely EVERYTHING that it has to offer, I suggest making plans for about 4 hours to be there. There was so much amazing and detailed information about the the Underground Railroad and it did not stop there! This Museum has a lot of Excellent information, presentation, etc...I was giddy the whole time. Even the employees were friendly and knowledgeable. I will be back!
The museum shares the freedom struggle of slaves who who crossed the Ohio river and headed north to Canada. The museum uses a lot of text to depict the stories. I feel it could have done a better job here to convey the history.
The museum also provoke you to think of the meaning of freedom in the current times shares examples ranging from child labour to abuse of children. This part of the museum had a good balance of text and pictures making the stories more readable than the earlier section. I also felt that the examples were India centric and possibly creating an impression that such things happen more in India. Need some balance here to.
Great view of the iconic bridge across the river from level 2 - not to be missed.
Very nice building but history is a little watered down
I've been wanting to go for awhile now, but it was a bit of a let-down. I love history, but this place was like reading a history book. The artifacts were really neat, but I didn't like the way that it was set up. Basically 75% reading and 25% artifacts.
Job well done to the curators and docents. We were expecting a bit more on the railroad story, as opposed to the history of slavery. Nonetheless, a nice experience and learned more about those who suffered, those who aided fellow human beings, and all involved who played a huge role in our history.
Love this place. There's alot to learn. My grandsons and godson enjoyed the visit along with the short informative films.
A must see and visit in Cincinnati. That area had so much to offer.
I wished I had more time to linger at the exibits!! Very informative. I truly enjoyed my visit. Next time I'm in Cincinnati, this is a must stop!!
Very interesting and authentic objects from the slavery period and many fun ways to learn about slavery and many horrifying and interesting stories. Nice building and open displays.
Well done museum that does a great job of giving an overview to this time in our history.
Make sure you DOWNLOAD THE FREE AUDIO TOUR APP that provides an audio tour. We were not told about it until I ASKED - but we had been in the museum about half an hour. It makes all the difference.
Excellent exhibits. I am sorry the staff was was not helpful.
We are huge history lovers. If you are the least bit interested in the Underground Railroad, this museum is a MUST SEE. I would even recommend planning a visit to the city to see it. And, I would also send you to the nearby aquarium!
We were blown away by the beautiful statues and replicas. The whole place is so well done! We spent the whole day and ran out of time, but you could see quite a bit if you only have a few hours.
If you are short on time, I would head to the Brothers of the Borderland movie first. And then the From Slavery to Freedom exhibit.
I love a museum like this that has information that is easy to read and not too much of it. You leave with a feeling of understanding that could never be gained from just reading about it.
I love this place so much!
Great display of African history. Loved the new exhibit on current slavery. Everyone should visit-great reminder there is much to be thankful for and there are numerous children and adults who need are help. End Slavery and Sex trade!
Tremendous help in genealogy center and exhibits surreal
My experience of this museum was with a group guided tour. The museum is wonderful but I would highly recommend NOT purchasing a guided tour. The tour guide spend a long time talking about a few items. The tour only talks about the items on the 2nd and 3rd levels. I enjoyed what I saw of the 4th level, but I only saw it for 10 minutes as the guided tour took up the almost the entirety of the time on a few items on the second floor. Pictures posted separate from review.
Lots of great information to learn. Not the best organization of information. Could be better if audio tour was available.
Great exhibits!!! Very well kept, interactive, and visitor friendly!!
Amazing experience! So much detail, and information about our history that I was unaware of.
Educational and rewarding. Who knew that they give free genealogy?
Fascinating. So impressed that I became a member on the spot.
Awesome museum, great artefact and exhibits. Will be back. Takes more than a day to explore.
Very moving and informative. When I went there were two add-on attractions: The Rosa Park experience, and Nelson Mandela. Mandela was amazing! The Rosa Parks experience was ok, but not worth the additional cost.
This is a super interesting museum. It has information for the civil war to today. It is all about slavery and there are 4 floors. Its 15 dollars for general admission and it is worth it because you can spend hours there. It is a lot of reading, so if that isnt what you are into I wouldn't go. They do have cool videos along the tour you can enjoy. I think the displays are amazing and it is very well designed. The topic of slavery and trafficking is not a happy one, so it is a place to visit if you are in the mood for a more serious atmosphere.
A great facility that is loaded with historical artifacts and information. Its worth the trip!
Humbling place that took me back to a time that I wish never existed but very grateful that the museum tells this important history..
Two contexts being explored here: the US Underground Railroad itself, and broader slavery around the world. This is an extremely compelling place to visit and its worth dedicating time to spend here.
One of the best African-American history themed experiences in the country. Located on the Ohio river next to the Great American ballpark, where the Reds play. Just make a day of it!
One of the most amazing museums I've visited in Ohio.
Didn t know exactly what we were walking into here, but wow! Very cool with a lot of in depth information. A peek into the darkness of humanity. Very well attended on MLK day - free admission!
Every powerful and informative. Definately a place to visit
This museum is worth going to. Very educational and informative.
It was ok i just dont like the fact they try to make children relive situation like hiding in boxes n other places slaves might had to hide like we get it but we aint slaves no more n we aint bout to act like it either its disrespectful n very violating they need to focus on the overcoming part more than the pain n struggles of slavery...
One of the reasons I wanted to come to Cincinnati, I was visually and openly moved by the presentations that they had available on the historical facts of slavery And some of the victories to overcome this disgraceful time in American history.
This museum was very powerful. They had a trafficking exhibit when I went and it was almost too much to take in. Be prepared for a ton of reading about the history of slavery.
Beautiful museum with a deep exploration of African American heritage and history in America. The museum is incredibly moving and worth a visit anytime you are in Cincinnati.
Great selection of artwork, orators, and school outreach!
Sad and powerful museum at the same time. Hard to imagine what some blacks went through and powerful in the fact that many gains have been made.
