Amazing building. Very informative exhibits. Go to the top floor. Was there for four hours and still didn't get through half of it. Learned a lot. Look forward to visiting again.

If you have not been please go and experience history.
A difficult but necessary display of American history.
On Nov. 5th 2016 we did a large group family tour of this so important building and subject. It was a huge disappointment to us the way the tour guide twist her owe political agenda into the whole story. She claimed that as of today our police go knocking on poor black people's doors harassing them and often arrest them to keep the jails at 90% of black inmates which she claimed is the projected target American law has in place.
Now we all know history well enough that we also know there where many white people that risk and even gave their lives to help the black slaves to escape, infact they have this information as well and we walked right underneath a hanging banner but never once did she mention these people. We thought that the "Freedom Center" was about the underground railroad which this guide seemed to totally overlook. We would all recommend that you do not get some political guide that wants to try a push their own narrative on you but instead just go through and read the information yourself. We as a family knew of "John Brown " naming just one of many of the people that helped free the slaves. We used to sing the song "John Brown had a little Indian " in our home growing up, knowing he was anti-slave.
This is a great place to get some knowledge on history but as a contractor must say way over budget for what is on display at a 100 million. And folks, if your are going to have a guide I would recommend that you prepare yourself to be lead off track and you may ask that the guide leaves her phone in her pocket and not try and text others while she is giving her owe political view instead of facts.... what a joke
Very informative museum about highly sensitive topics that are effecting numerous people around the world.
Highly recommend visiting.
Wonderful experience for my family with teenagers and a preteen. Lots to see and even more to read. The staff is very knowledgeable and the exhibits cover slavery from past to present. A must see!!
amazing display of artifacts, very clean, kid friendly, tour guides very knowledgeable
Lots of history, facts and displays about one of the darkest spots in our American history. This place is a must see. Like any museum you can't get it all at one time so plan on multiple visits
Nice place to visit so much history. Would highly recommend! Thanks for the whole floor on modern day slavery. Knew it took place, but sometimes we can all turn a blind eye to it. Thanks for a great experience!
So much information being addressed that one cannot come to this museum and take it all in one day. The low stars comes from a pet peeve I have about museums. I absolutely dislike it when interactive items are broken or rendered useless. I can understand if one or two items are busted because visitors are just abusive...But in almost each section of each floor had some displays that were in need of repair or computers touchscreens that were inoperable. It's obvious that a lot of money came to develop and make this place. I can only hope for a decent revamping.
There is an incredible wealth of knowledge in this place. I was glad I finally went.
Museum was nice although i was not that impressed. It could be due to me recently leaving the Civil Rights Museum in TN. Entirely two different approaches.
Incredible experience. Do not miss it. Very important and very well organized and presented.
Rosa Parks experience was brief but exceptionally powerful.
This is a place every person who visits Cincinnati should go visit. I was in the city for a wedding, and unfortunately only had a couple of hours to explore.
There is so much histroy for one to learn. An actual slave hut that has been reconstructed. More acccounts of individuals and their stories than I had time to fully enjoy. Artwork. Examples of how they would hide in homes, and so much more.
There were tours, and I believe even a theater, but my available time was painfully short.
Go. You will learn ssomething
Very informative about a dark past in America and the world.
I have always enjoyed my experiences anytime I visit.
Nice but so many of the displays and exhibits were closed. Was excited for Rosa Parks especially.
We got there an hour and a half before close, made it through the first floor in an hour so we'll have to go back for the second level. I liked that it was free this month, but you had pay options that looked really cool. There is so much history here. So much to learn so much to see and read. The layout is great, it starts the way a slave saw it begin. You saw the crates with writing and the reasons and how as to how slavery begins modern and historically. I thought the modern twist was a good addition to show people it's still happening. I really enjoyed my time here.
Very somber and educational. A great place to spend an afternoon.
Incredibly moving and it's all important information for people to understand.
Amazing facility, amazing docents, everyone needs to visit here.
This place is fantastic, so much history. Some makes me sad but so true, you just have to digest it all. There are 2 floors, 3rd and 2nd. I stayed on 2nd for 2.5 hours. No time to get to 3rd before closing...started at 2:15pm. Will return and finish. Mandela video was good and the segment on running for freedom. So much to see...then step outside for all the restaurants you could want.
Very sobering telling of our history.
Everyone needs to know the stories of the villians and heros from this time in our history. Even more compelling is the revealing of the current evil of modern day slavery.
One of the most inspirational places I've ever been in
Took my daughter and her friend here. It is very informative and hands on. The Rosa Parks simulation experience felt real. It really felt as if the bus driver was grabbing me. Stepping inside the slave house and picking up the chains gives you chills just imaging what it was like. It it a must see - many displays and facts.
Tour guides are very informative. You get much more information than what is displayed. Need more than one day to see it all.
So.much history. Freedom is vital for all humans no matter your skin color! One human race
The experience was spectacular. The museum is huge and there is so much to learn. A place that invites reflection on human trafficking, both in the past and in the present.
I stumbled on this attraction Walt Disney Cincinnati I wasn't aware that they had an underground Museum to my pleasant surprise I loved every minute of it I will definitely visiting the National Underground Museum every time I come to Cincinnati
yacked in every place and didn't tell anyone. kinda feel bad but this place had no wheel chair ramps. NOT cool
My tour bus stopped here on May 23, 2019. It was my 1st visit and I did enjoy it. There was so much to see. My experience could have been even better if staff was available to guide and assist me. There was one young man on one of the floors that suggested we start at one point when we asked, so we took his advice. One of my favorite areas contained the quilts.
A great place to learn about the history of this country and how it began. It is painful to think about, but knowing the truth about what really happened isn't easy. I recommend this to anyone who is in Cincinnati. The price is just right and the extra exhibits are neat. There is a plethora of information. One could easily spend three hours here.
A powerful and moving place to visit. Take your kids - now more than ever there is a lot to understand
You need a lot of time to go through this wonderful museum.
A great place to learn history. You can also search your history by utilizing the genaology center and begin filling in the missing "puzzle pieces" of your family tree!
Beautifully presented and very impactful history of the slave trade beginnings to the challenges of 21st cenrury racism minority suffering.
Just needed more time. We will go back and walk through again. This place is amazing and a must see for everyone.
Great representation of the horrible attrocities of slavery in history and modern day. Mandela exhibit is awesome- had the pleasure of a tour with the photographer. Rosa parks experience was neat but a little pricey.
In depth knowledge of past events presented in easy ways
So much to see and do in there. So much history to soak in. Definitely a good 3or 4 hours to walk through everything and read up on the history. The Rosa parks experience was pretty neat, kinda wished it was a bit longer but regardless it was a neat thing to Experience. At the top floor you were able to use their services and try and research your family tree. I was unsuccessful, but one of my friends found his going back to 315. That was pretty amazing
Excellent narration of a long history of slave trade in USA and the world. Includes stories of men and women who experienced slavery and who worked to end slavery. Story includes the sad state of ongoing slavery and exploition of millions of people today.
The guided tour is the best. Lots of nearby parking.
Some parts were interesting but many of the exhibits weren't working
This museum is a must-see and an important archive of our nation's history. It is important for people to see the exhibits, understand the attitudes of people over many generations, and realize that there are certain parallels throughout those generations that continue today.
This was one of the most beautiful facilities I've ever seen. I didn't get to go through much of the historical areas since I was there for a workshop, but will definitely be going back!
If you live in Cincinnati , you should at least go once no matter your race.
Need to visit here instead of going into Hillman accelerator for a change
A must see. The Mandela exhibit was very eye opening!
The docent, although factual, lacked the human connection needed for me and my 7th & 8th grade students.
A must see! There was much history that I didn't know about or even heard or read! Young people really need to understand and think about this history, the impact, and the continuing journey...many parts I was so overwhelmed and wanting to cry. I felt this was an awakening moment.
Very informative. They should be more active in the community to get more people in the museum for the experience.
Very well curated exhibits, with a lot of information. It's was an afternoon well spent.
A must see. To get an idea of the African american Experience this place is a must see.
Had potential but it's mostly just empty space. There are a few cool things to see like the cabin and Abe Lincolns signature but that's it. Everything else is just ALOT of empty space that could have been used for something cool.
A very good historical place of interest you can learn very much in this building
Worked an event here, first time, must go back when I have time to really look around at everything, but it was beautiful & amazing!
