In going to the museum at several intervals in my life, I can definitely say it has grown tremendously during each visit. In comparison to Smithsonian, it offers an additional perspective and some local prominence as well. Another key hidden gem is the ability to trace family ancestry as well.

It could have been great. They had some interesting information but it was a liberal Democrat indoctrination seminar. Their views on political issues, gun control and what ever. Very few artifacts, mostly posters and reproduction items.

Great historical perspectives that tells a story everyone should hear, including modern day issues that need to be fixed. Had to pull my12yo out after three hours. He was reading every word. We'll have a follow up visit. We had a great discussion afterwards but just ran out of time.

This is important history for Americans to understand and acknowledge. The museum presents this in a coherent, interesting way, incorporating the actual words of slaves and presidents, as well as documents from the 500 years since slavery was instituted. We need to know our history!

Really enjoyed this place. It was very informational. And I really enjoyed it because I went on MLK Day and they had a reading of I Have a Dream. Definitely a place to go to if you're in the Cincinnati area!

Absolutely beautiful! I attended a presentation on human trafficking that was being held at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and I was amazed at the space - Both in terms of the hall and the exhibits that I passed. I will definitely be back to explore the rest of the museum and would highly recommend a visit for yourself.

Very intriguing and informative. History! This museum is dedicated to educating the people on how The United States of America gained global wealth and dominance. To this day, America still benefits from Chattel Slavery and the denial and suppression of human rights. Beautiful facility.

It's ok. We are museum ppl and this one was ok. Many computer displays did not work. Extra money for the VR Rosa Parks experience. Guy at desk didn't even mention that. They told us to start at 3rd floor but that didn't make sense looking back at visit. Should have started with Oprah Winfrey narrated movie.

Good experience. Lots to learn about slavery and those who helped slaves escape. We suggest they improve the lighting on many exhibits as some were hard to read due to light and shadow contrasts on text. Good to combine this with stops in Louisville, KY at Muhammed Ali Center, and Fraser History Center, along with Lakewood, OH (Cleveland suburb) to see the "last stop" at park on shore of Lake Eire.

Very impressed with this museum! It was well worth the price and I wish we had more time to explore even more. The facility is clean and in a safe location, the exhibits are educational and of cultural significance, and the spectrum of interactive displays are entertaining for both children and adults! Make sure to get there early enough to "discover your family roots" at the Family Search Center in the John Parker Library! I can't say enough good things, just plan your visit asap... and see for yourself!

We spent 4 hours and only saw the 3rd floor, a small portion of the second floor and the bookstore/gift shop. The history is intense. It is well organized, interactive and the portrayal is done by many local artists. Parts will make you want to cry. Currently you have to leave the museum to eat, but they are looking for a new vendor.

Great visit museum is a beautifully designed and informative tribute honoring those who were brave enough to have traveled on the Underground Railroad. A somber experience but wonderfully presented.

Was amazed! There was a lot more information than I thought there would be. It didn't have just one focal point of slavery but many aspects, focusing not just on the struggle of African Americans but also other races and sexes. Loved that it showed that fact. Worth visiting but know it may take several hours so plan to spend anywhere from 3 to 4 hours there, especially if you are a reader like myself.

A museum in downtown Cincinnati.

A museum in downtown Cincinnati.
It's called an underground railroad, but it's not a railway or train museum.
It is a museum for leaving a journey to freedom, crossing the Ohio River from the south and heading to the north while moving underground during the American slavery era.

There are many exhibits that reproduce and convey the actual situation, and there are stories of escape from the south, hidden records, people who were active and supported, and their words.

The exhibition of the huts and ships where the slaves are squeezed is also devised, and it is also meaningful to experience it.

It's a sad and horrific history, but it's definitely worth a visit.

And there was also a modern exhibition that did not make slaves in the past.
Human slavery that continues to this day.

No reservation is required and the price is not so high. It was good to be able to look around freely by myself instead of a tour.
This is a recommended museum.

A rich experience. The terrible pain and suffering that the African slaves endured from their capture, sale, hard labor, separation of families as husbands, wives, sons and daughters were sold. The famous abolitionists were shown with murals, interactive audio and video.
The modern day slavery was shown from forced labor to the sex trade.
Quite eye opening. You will leave a better person.
Cost was 15.00, Veterans are free in November.

If there is anything that should be on your life-long bucket list it should be visiting the Freedom Centre. I visited 10 years ago and I still can feel and am moved by the heartbreak, the anger, and the unity. Now more than ever its message needs to get across to everyone.

As someone who is not a "museum person", I spent over 5 hours there and there still wasn't enough time.

A very moving experience.... Very touching.... Two hours was definitely not enough time to even see one floor thoroughly.... I must go back again.... I highly recommend this museum.... definitely worth your time to see everything

A beautiful museum, a sobering experience. Growing up in my basically all white small town/suburb-- the major realtor in town was sued by the government for red lining when I was in highschool-- I had no concept of what other people had gone through and, sadly, were still suffering from. This museum brought the horror to frightening life right before my eyes. One exhibit that really grabbed my heart was the one on current day slavery. The horrors of slavery still live everywhere around the world today. Often right under our supposedly more enlightened eyes. All the other exhibits were well done as well. Please don't think that the entire museum is depressing. There are plenty of depictions of brave people and groups who fought, and are still fighting, against this most horrible example of humans inhumanity to their fellow humans. I actually left the museum with a renewed sense of hope and the youth group that I was with had their eyes opened too

A lot of great information to be found here unfortunately a majority of the interactive features were not functional while some others were removed completely from the display. However still very informative and necessary to understand an important part of America s history.
