National is the best local lumber supply company in Baltimore, hands down. The owners care about their clients. Mario does a great job serving our needs for pricing materials for projects. They have become a true partner to our local construction company and we buy the majority of our product directly from them.

I would highly recommend National and am glad to have them as a partner company to help our business in its continued growth.

I ordered cabinets from National Lumber this fall. Pros: cabinets were a good price and decent quality, recommended to me by a friend/architect Cons: they are not transparent off the bat about pricing when you work with a designer (refuse to itemize until you order/pay), the measurements were off so a bunch of filler pieces that did not fit were not needed which was a waste of hundreds of dollars. The Lazy Susan was scratched upon delivery as it would not fit through our front door - had to remove the box, the door, and the door trim! (This should be the number one thing measured - the width of your doors and the lazy Susan) I worked with Rick, and being a female myself, was not entirely thrilled with his sometimes condescending tone, he often texts on his phone while in design review meetings, and should pay more attention to his commentary around gender roles and responsibilities. HD was 2k cheaper on the counters so I did not order counters via national lumber. Did all the install, tile, finish work myself

I purchased a mahogany door from these folks, and ...

I purchased a mahogany door from these folks, and I thought it was a good deal, but as luck would have it, it was only about 1mm mahogany on the outside of the door. These people are resellers, but even as resellers should be able to give you an honest answer about what a mahogany door actually is. I don t think a 1% mahogany door qualifies as a mahogany door. Do you?

Perhaps an honest company would have said it was a mahogany veneer instead of passing the door off as solid mahogany. Perhaps a diligent company would have asked where the door would be placed and what the exposure to the elements would be before selling a door of such insufficiency that even after proper treatments, it s falling apart prior to it s 2nd year installed. Perhaps a good company would do these things, but I have not seen them here.

Probably the only way you re going to get a truly good quality door anymore, is to build it yourself. There is no door you ever want to have installed that even with maintenance, looks damaged prior to 2 years old. Why would anyone willingly waste the time and money for this?

Short answer: they wouldn t. No one would ever ask for this level of insanity.
Edit: Best available product? Are full mahogany doors magically unavailable? Please be HONEST.
You sell some very nice cardboard doors with thin mahogany veneer. That s your product.

Forget the chain giants, this is the real thing, better wood, experienced people for counseling and custom cutting for the do-it-yourself weekend fixer-upper to big contractors. It's huge, with multiple giant buildings, one just for doors, one just for custom cutting and so on. And there's a friendly guard cat people come to visit in the hardware store.

I requested a quote from National Lumber for several sliding glass doors and windows in my condominium. The salesman came out once to get measurements and prepaire a quote. He was pleasant. He came back again with the head of the department to confirm measurements. In the meantime, he sent me an estimate for the windows and doors with a place for me and them to sign. He came back a second time with the on-sight manager to confirm measurements and verify logistics. I was impressed with the perceived attention to detail. I was ready to sign a contract and write a check. Both my husband and I were impressed.I was told to wait for the "contract.". To my very great surprise, the contract came back with a quote 30% higher than the one initially offered. I was furious. Not only did he have multiple opportunities to tell me in person that there would be an installation fee (a rather significant one), but we were also in email contact. What else were they not communicating with us! What other surprises could we expect between now and when the work would be completed!? If I could give them 1\3 star, I would. If I gave no star, one could think I had forgotten to give them a rating. Needless to say, we didn't sign any contact with them nor will we.

These guys are knowledgable, helpful and really nice! They treat everyone with respect, and their prices are competitive with the big box retailers. This is my new favorite home renovation store!

Edit:
It took a while but customer service rectified this issue. Thanks Neal.

I ordered windows.
They measured 4 times.
It took forever.
One of my windows was not measured correctly.
I am now stuck with it.
The customer is not always right.
Thanks National Lumber!

My mother started shopping for replacement windows...

My mother started shopping for replacement windows and doors with the companies who spend exorbitant amounts of money on advertising (e.g. Window World, Window Nation, etc.), and after two estimates she quickly gave up on the process. It was the same old song and dance with these companies; gimmicky sales pitches, high-pressure sales tactics, hidden costs, etc. After hearing my mother's account of the situation (and being a person who is utterly annoyed by these types of gimmicky "buy 2 get 2 free" retailers myself), I stepped in and did some research and was lucky enough to stumble upon National Lumber Company. In looking for a true local retailer I was extremely impressed to discover that National Lumber Company has been in business and family owned for over 100 years - this speaks volumes for a retailer in any space. We ended up purchasing windows and doors from National Lumber Co. after a great experience with the salesperson. Not only did the salesperson not use gimmicky sales pitches or pressure us into a purchase, they also spent time to explain build quality of windows and doors between manufacturers. After meeting with the salesperson it was very clear to us why a national franchise retailer can spend so much on advertising and sell a low cost product (hint: it is in the quality of the product).

I would recommend National Lumber Company to anyone. The process from meeting with the salesperson all the way through the install was seamless. It could even be said that the entire process was quite enjoyable.

If you are looking for an honest family owned business that isn't about volume, look no further. If that all wasn't enough, their extensive attention to detail is commendable and the owners' are always on hand to answer questions.

My contractor recommended National Lumber Company ...

My contractor recommended National Lumber Company for our kitchen cabinet purchase. From the start it was a disaster. Our designer was Alison Birks; she was horrible. She constantly kept asking what our budget was. My husband said we will purchase what we like. After we selected our cabinets; she said the knob were expensive; we could probably get cheaper ones from Amazon. Very condescending. We asked if they sold the ones in the showroom; if so, that is what we wanted. We were in the showroom for over two hours , so I felt there was a problem. The cabinets arrived 3 weeks earlier than she said, so by the time we were ready for the install, that s when we noticed the problems. I have four double spoon drawers. Why? I was suppose to receive an upper 48 in cabinet and a lower 48 inch cabinet with a pegged plate drawer. I received an two 24 in lower cabinets. I called on 10/16/20 asking for the status of the pegged plate drawer; she said she would order it. Fast forward to 10/30/20, I called at 9:22 am, left a detailed message asking her to call me back. Why? I received two pegged plate drawer inserts THAT DOSEN T FIT IN MY CABINETS. And SHE NEVER RETURNED MY CALL. Did she not read her own drawings for the layout? Or she just doesn t care. So hopefully someone other that Alison Birks will read this, call me and get it straight.$8,000 may not be a lot to them, however I wanted my dream kitchen and I can t seem to wake up from this nightmare.

National Lumber was so helpful with our new home. Their representatives helped us design and select a truly amazing window design layout. The input this company provided truly helped our home come together to look and feel amazing. We had previously had a similar experience with this company when our custom screen porch was built years ago. You won t be sorry to trust these people with your next home improvement design, implementation, and quality products they stand behind.
