Though the price of entry was a little bit steep, I was greatly impressed with the aviary. The building and the birds were obviously well taken care of. I was also informed by my sister that part of the ticket price goes to helping bird conservation throughout the area, so I feel better about paying a premium to enter the grounds.
I also thought that all of the chances that the guests had to interact with animals was great. When we got there, one of the employees was walking around with an owl on his arm, telling us about this creature and fielding questions. A little while later, we went into Wetlands section and were able to participate in the feeding of the birds while another handler explained about the eating habits of these animals.
If the price isn't a factor for you, then the National Aviary is a wonderful place to take the family.
The butterflies, birds & vegetation are beautiful!!
We had a blast at the Aviary. We were able to hit all of the major feedings. The habitats are super unique. It's really cool to be able to walk into a room and have the birds flying all around you. We'll be back!
They offer a unique event venue with a knowledgeable staff.
A wonderful place with such beautiful birds! It's extraordinary to come with the family and enjoy the magnificent creatures. But at the same time it's so sad that this amazing birds can't be in their natural environment...the humans have been destroyed little by little the nature...it's so sad...I wish I could send them all free...
The ability for the kids to feed the Lorees birds was memorable. They also enjoyed the interactive displays in Canary's Call.
A wonderful experience with some amazing birds. It isn't the biggest aviary in the world but they have some truly terrific bird species in a small area. The best part is that most of the birds (except the eagles and owls of course !) are in the open so you can see them up close. The birds aren't shy either so it turned out to be great for close up bird photography . We were able to attend the penguin feeding session and some of those birds were really cool. They also have a sloth which totally lives up to its reputation for being lazy ! My favorite part was watching the beautiful flamingoes play in the water from literally 2 meters away ! The aviary can be covered in good detail in less than a couple of hours.
Great family spot to go to.
Over 600 types of birds, especially African penguins, and a sloth.
I was aboard #Molly'sTerrorTrolley3.0 tour when we saw it light up in the evening with the large markey
Enjoyable time with family. Can't go wrong with the aviary
While the Aviary is a little small, it provides a lot of unique encounters that rotate throughout the year, as well as many special events. There are daily "behind the scenes" and up close encounters where visitors can get nose to beak with feathered friends that will also change throughout the year. There's lots of fun kids events too. Fun for all ages.
The aviary is great! We especially loved the lorakeet feeding and watching the bats be fed. (:
Clean, and very friendly staff. Had a chance to feed the penguins. Great experience!
I love to visit this place. It is a bit of an escape from the city clutter.
We feel so lucky to have this gem in western PA! Fun for hours!
This is a great place to take kids to see the birds and various other creatures they have on exhibit. They have some really great shows and education sessions through the day, so no matter what time you visit there is always some interaction. This is one of my favorite places to have mommy meetups - we can bring our kids, walk around, take some photos and get some knowledge. It is an inexpensive afternoon visit.
There's a large variety of birds as expected and most could be easily seen. The feeding in the tropical area was really nice since the birds fearlessly wander close to the crowd to reach the food. It was $3 to do a lorikeet feeding. It went quick but it was fun to have the birds land on you. Overall, the aviary was a lot of fun and worth visiting, especially with kids.
Super great place to go see! Very educational and fun!
Beautiful birds, of all kind. my favorite thing there are the Flying Foxes so stinking cute!! Well kept and up to par in vivid safety precautions.
Bird of Prey Encounter with the falcon was well worth the extra fee !
Awesome day at the National Aviary. Up close with DJ the penguin was the best!!
Great place. We have had good experiences every time we have gone, and we have gone several times over the years. They have a great variety of birds, and a few other animals, too. Good luck finding the sloth, though, he doesn't come out much!
Each room is a different habitat with a million birds and no cages so the birds are flying all around you, landing on the bench next to you, and casually walking next to you. It was amazing!
It was ok but for the price I will never go back. Also had certificate good for 4 people to get in only took 3 and they wouldn't give me anything so I could come back and use other admission I still had left.
Unfortunately the exotic birds section was closed, the main attraction really. The rest was somewhat underwhelming and it was surprisingly small for the entry cost. I expected more.
Fun penguin exhibit and other birds. Make sure to check out all 3 areas.
Really cool place with an amazing variety of birds and other rescue animals.
The aviary is a great way to spend the day on Pittsburgh for any animal and nature lovers. The price of entry is reasonable, given you could easily spend all day walking around, or just standing and observing the birds.
Go on weekday mornings to see feedings and avoid the crowds. Got to see newly hatched owlettes through the incubator window during our last trip, it was pretty amazing.
Love the exhibits. Not many but the few are very well maintain and they try to replicate the birds natural habitat. Great little adventure for the kids.
Unique to Pittsburgh. Just the right size for a day visit with kids.
Really nice exhibits with immersive rooms to really explore natural bird habitats. Highly recommend if you are traveling to Pittsburgh and like interesting experiences
A wonderful place for kids , staff is kind and helpful!
I liked it. Lots of free flying birds, a lovely tropical space and even a sustainable landscape exhibit. My only issue is that any shows etc., cost extra. It's worth it just to go to the different spaces and have bird flying all around. I loved the finches!
I love the open room with all the little chickadees flying around. Wish I could sit in there alone and read all day. So peaceful!
We loved getting to see the many different kinds of birds.
They have a lot of interesting birds, and even though admission may be a bit high, it's definitely worth it. Great, clean facilities, and well taken care of animals.
Great museum with more than just birds! Animal Encounter experiences are really fun.
Great place for family outings and doesn't take too long
Really awesome experience. Not many kinds of owls. Smells a lot at the entrance. Some of the workers were a little funny or really not pleasant. I would go back. Very fun though.
This is best place if you are bird lover. Kids friendly and birds are so friendly
I went for their 'late night and holiday lights' event and had a FANTASTIC time. The keepers and Steff were all friendly and knowledgeable, the birds were energetic and the exhibits were beautiful. It is loud, with the birds yelling at each other, but it is amazing how close they will get to you. For the event they had lights, carolers, santa, crafts, and people walking around with the birds, all for the normal price of admission! Great time!
I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
Staff is amazing. Exhibits are clean and animals appear to be happy and cared for. A true treasure of Pittsburgh.
I love the aviary! I love all the habitats and the variety of birds and species. The Condors out front are magnificent!!
I recently had my wedding here and I can't rave enough about how wonderful it was. They worked with me the week of the wedding on moving the wedding from the Rose Garden tent to the Atrium with pending extremely warm weather, and the venue was way beyond my guests and my expectations. Guests visited the different exhibits while waiting for the ceremony, the bar and buffet were beautifully set up by the penguin exhibit, and the atrium transformed into a beautiful scene for the reception! Of course the penguin Happy was adorable and the staff and chef treated guests wonderfully. All of our guests were blown away!
It was fun! Admission is a little on the expensive side, especially if you do all the extras like the shows & bird feeding. That being said, it was an enjoyable experience & would come back again when visiting Pittsburgh.
Adding a recently built event center could only enhance the already beautiful venue especially for weddings.
What a great place to bring the family! Staff was very friendly and we were able to see everything we came for.
Great place to take kids. You can feed the birds, very fun. Street parking
Coming back soon. We enjoyed the demonstrations and the birds very much. We all had a great time.
Great place to go for an afternoon of fun. The base admission is only 15 and you can pay more for the experiences which vary in price. There are still a lot of free things to do once you are there make sure to check the calander to see what time the free ahows are.
A really unique place! The birds in every room are free to fly around, so you can see them up close. It's so incredible to see a bird walking around, fearless, and just weaving between parents, kids, and strollers. My wife also did the penguin encounter- definitely recommend it!
I love this place I come here often as I'm a member. I usually walk through 3 times. The exhibits are immersive and the birds fly right over you. Love it cant recommend it enough. Kid fun and friendly.
It's truly beautiful there. I wish there was a section all about the birds in Pittsburgh. There could be more information on the birds as well. You can walk through the whole aviary in less than an hour. Make it worth the price of admission. Its worth the trip if you are a bird lover!
Amazing! We did the VIP experience, and while it was pricey, it was worth it! We especially loved meeting the mischievous Lorikeets. They designed the experience just for us, and did amazing job! Thank you to the entire staff!!!!
It had animals doing private stuff. But I love seeing animals.
I attended a charity function here for the Aviary. Had never been before. We paid for VIP access to have access to the exhibits early. Am I good we did. So informational. The birds and animals are very well cared for.
While some birds are behind bars, there are lots of that are free to fly around you, and they seem pretty us ed d to people so you can get quite close to take pix. Lots of optional activities are available like feeding various species and otherwise interacting with them (though my wife was disappointed there was no owl cuddling). I'd visit again.
