A sweet spot for visiting with birds. It is, as others mention, small, but the cost for admission goes into care and upkeep for the birds and their health. Unlike a theme park, the aviary also serves as a clinic for treating animals who are unwell or who have been injured. As such, the extra cost for admission doesn't bother me. You'll be able to see tropical birds, penguins, and condors whose impressive wingspan extends almost seven feet. The birds also get to live in appropriate climate recreations so they act more like they're at home, which is nice to see.

The aviary is amazing! The sea eagles are breathtaking, and paying extra for the encounters is totally worth it. Even though we are from out of state, we got a membership so we can come back!

Love the National Aviary. The only drawback is that the rainforest aspect was being renovated but it's going to be unreal when complete. Just gotta suck it up until then. Sloths are cool in the meantime.

The National Aviary was clean, organized, and the birds seemed healthy. However, we were through the entire place in an hour. The crew that were at exhibits didn t seem eager to share information about the birds. If you really love birds , it might be worth your time and money, but it wasn t for us.

This place is so great for a relaxing afternoon but also so educational. Their penguins and bald eagles alone are worth the trip. But they have a room with signing birds that fly right by you, and there is a large bird that greets you by one of the doors. When I get the chance I will be going back.

What an unbelievable way to consume a day at a very affordable amount.
Once inside they have many different rooms, Savannah, rain forest, and marsh provided a nice mixture. They had Penguins, and sea birds too.
The aviary is placed to over 600 birds representing extra than 200 species. It is an accurate size and it offers many extras that may excite the kids. Opportunities for hands-on experiences to feed the birds etc but for an additional cost to a ticket. I'm really looking forward to my next visit to the National Aviary!

This was a very enjoyable place for my family and I. There were many interesting attractions such as a show where people fed the birds. There were many different birds of all sizes, and they were very impressive to me. Overall, this was a great experience. Highly recommended!!!

A unique place to take the kids for something fun to do. Lots of birds and activities for them to view and participate in. The staff is polite and knowledgeable about the wildlife. The gift shop is a tad overpriced but that seems to be on par with all of the other zoo/animal places in the surrounding areas. Parking is on site and convenient.

Very fun and new for the kids to be so close to the different birds. They even have a sloth (3 to be exact). They have an awesome VR flight simulator called birdly. It's fun for all ages. I'd recommend for a family visit to Pittsburgh.

A terrific, small, family outing! There is plenty to see, especially with little ones where a long zoo visit might be a bit too much. A lot of fun. Both my sons love watching the birds especially in the immersive exhibits.

I love it here so I finally became a member! They really improved over the years and I love the penguin exhibit, you can get up close! Some exhibit area are free flight which allow for some great photos. There are a lot of great educational opportunities and some neat "I didn't know that" things. I always learn or see something new when I visit.

Definitely try the VR machine.

And I loved the crow that helped out with the donations. I honestly wasn't going to give anything until we were told that he would be collecting the money and putting it in the box. Brilliant!

I was surprised how much i enjoyed the National Aviary. Many opportunities to see a variety of species of birds. Splurge a little and feed the toucans. They are adorable and make for a great memory. Go to the roof for a bird of prey demonstration. The trainer is knowledgeable and the show will not disappoint.

So many birds! There is a room with a bunch of tiny birds, and they'll just fly right past your face, it is a pretty immersive bird experience. I could sit in that little bird room all day.
During my visit, I witnessed the staff taking a baby crane on a walk (super cute) as well as a fruit bat feeding procedure.
Tons of fun for the whole family, or anyone who is interested in birds
