After a year and a half I finally made it to the Aviary this past Sunday. If you are interested in a great time and love birds you will be totally impressed as I was. Some of the largest birds I have ever seen were part of the exhibits. Everything was indoors which freaked me out as I'm from Florida and everything is outside! The Atria Cafe had gluten free offerings along with other tasty selections. .All in all I would say if you have never been there GO!

I love this place. Such beautiful natural life we get to experience the up close view here at the Aviary. Famous birds are housed here including close to extinct species that are well taken care of as well as injured birds who would no longer survive in the real world of nature and predators. This is a place to experience! It doesn t disappoint at any time of year or day check it out

Outstanding enclosures, birds are clearly well cared for, and the staff and volunteers were so helpful and friendly. I loved feeding the lorikeets and loved being picked to volunteer feeding some birds in the wetlands room. Mind blowing diversity of bird species- quite a treat for an avid birder like myself!

Great!

Very small - saw it all in under an hour at a slow pace. $17 admission is crazy for what it is. Every experience cost extra. We wanted to feed the toucan but didn't want to wait around for 3 hours. Glad we didn't because there is no way we could have stuck it out another 2 hours. We won't be going back.

Good place to take kids. You can pay to have birds eat food out of their hands in one of the cages. Lots of places to let them run and get some energy out. They also have a nice interactive penguins exhibit.

This was one of my favorite stops while I was in Pittsburgh. The exhibits were great; I really enjoyed being able to walk through and see all of the birds and sloth. It was affordable and absolutely worth the time I spent visiting. I'm in Pittsburgh for a work trip but I wish I could have brough my almost 3 year old son here -- he would have loved it! Lots of different birds - bald eagles, flamingos, penguins, condors, canaries, toucans, owls, etc... I highly recommend a visit to the Aviary - very unique experience.

A great place to for familys to go and learn about birds from around the world. They offer several encounters where you are able to meet/pet the animals. Several of the areas you are in a large enclosure where you walk as the birds fly in the enclosure with you. You would be disappointed after coming here its a really awasome experience !

Always a great visit. Was disappointed this time, however, because a very substantial display that we always look forward to was being renovated so was therefore unavailable. I don't mind paying the $15 each because it is a good cause. But it still put a damper on our day. Still...4 stars

Went to a wedding at the aviary. The venue was a great experience. From the birds singing during the ceremony to meeting Marybeth the penguin it was a unique and refreshing experience. The food was incredible! Atria's catered the event. They even were able to accommodate various dietary needs with deliciousness and appeal.

Very cool! Some of the birds are just walking and flying around you, they're not behind a glass window or anything. Friendly staff who just want to talk to you about birds. I went with my 25 year old friends and we had a grand old time. Really good view of the penguins, too! You do have to pay extra to pet the birds. Parts are indoor and covered and parts are sort of outdoor, so if it's torrentially raining, maybe skip the aviary.

This is a great place to visit during the winter. Nice and warm inside, and lots of birds to check out. The staff is very informative and helpful. The building itself isn't huge, but you can spend a lot of time watching all of the birds, watching feedings, participating in the feedings etc. Although I didn't do it this time, I strongly recommend doing the bird show. It is nuts when the huge birds start flying right over your head.

Love visiting here. All of the staff are extremely helpful and most of them are pretty knowledgeable. Started going to see the baby Eurasian eagle owl. And he was so so adorable. Also, the sloth is a must-see.

Great place to see a variety of birds. The place is divided up into areas depending on the biosphere (rainforests, grasslands, etc.). Two of the areas contain a variety of birds (colorful, big, small, tall) living together. In some cases, you can get VERY close to the birds, making the experience even better. The place is not that big, so you can definitely visit this place in half a day. Excellent for families. Parking can be limited (few spots on street), so keep that in mind while visiting.

Great experience! Loved being amongst the birds, watching them in their "natural habitat". Plan on spending the day here. There's a lot to see. The extra experiences that you pay for are expensive, but worth it! Look forward to visiting again!

I love this place, to see all the birds that you wont see in sitting on your front porch. If you ever get the chance to visit the National Aviary, jump on it and go. This is the only one in the United States.

Watched the penguins being fed and got to feed the Toucan ourselves. They have a sloth who's so adorable too. The eagles are huge and neat to see. It's very clean and well kept here. The staff is friendly and very informative. They also have a snack area with made to order food from Atrias.

Absolutely fabulous bird habitats and displays. We had a "surprise" gift of a painting. An African penguin was the artist. He was sat in paint and was forced to walk over some small canvas boards. I wonder if PETA knows about this.

Will definitely be back the next time we are in Pittsburgh. The place is amazing, the show was great and the sloth encounter is an experience my son will never forget.

The staff was knowledgeable, kind and accommodating.

It is a very relaxing experience. The employees could not be any more friendly to the customers. Their love and compassion for these animals really shows. I would highly recommend this place for adults and children!

We had so much fun watching the birds. My husband got to see close how big eagles and their wing spread looked. How beautiful the different bird look like up close. We plan to get a membership for there when the days are crummy to go there and visit.

Smaller than expected but very well maintained. Not a lot of signs of reading material about the birds. Did see a lot of people walking around talking to the children and adults about the birds though. Took about an hour.
