My two grandchildren, my daughter, and I were excited about the Aviary since we had seen the hype on the local tv station and the website is loaded with photos. Once we arrived, and walked through, each of us were disappointed. Approximately forty-five minutes later, we had seen everything that is included in the extremely over priced $11-$13 admission/person. If one wants to experience more, one better have lots of cash. Each "show" is an additional $5/person. Want to experience feeding the inhabitants? That costs money, too. We were disappointed. In our assessment of the place, you don't get what you pay for. It is way too expensive.
Four stars because I went in winter season, the birds were very calm, and there were no staff in the outside area to explain or teach the birds, outside of that it is a very beautiful place, they take care of the birds, I saw birds that never I've seen before, like giant bats and many other different birds, they have a warm space for birds that need it, and a place to eat
Awesome place the areas the animals habitats are truly remarkable
We loved the bird of prey demonstration. Lots to see and a great place for kids.
Fun and educational. If you have a chance visit on Saturdays at noon, that's when they feed the baby sloth then take questions from visitors.
This place is a national treasure. You'll find a stunning collection to sneak new entries into your personal list of birds you've seen. Kid-friendly and easily toured in an hour or two if you are short on time and want a dose of nature. Informative and entertaining natural history presentations. Also a popular spot for weddings and similar events in the outdoor gardens.
I took a friend there for her birthday present it's Been a long time since we both have been there and we both enjoyed it and we liked it very much
The National Aviary is a place of education and fun. The conservation, the attention to detail, and friendly staff make the National Aviary a great place to visit. Not to mention the stars of the Show the birds.
Fantastic place to spend the day with your family !! Always interesting activities being put on by very educated people about birds and our environment..
Wonderful aviary! If you can go during the week it's less crowded and you can enjoy the birds more.
I went on the RAD free day and it was great. I actually liked being pushed around with a bunch of ppl. They make sure you see everything& Not too much wait. Some birds had maybe too small of enclosures
I wore a shirt with flamingos on it. Was a huge hit with the flamingos. I knew what I was doing. I think they were proud of me. My son wondered aloud to staff about the size of the Andean condor chickens. A parrot said something to me in Japanese. Probably one of the best days of my life.
Very nice place for kids and adults. From the penguins, the sloth, the butterfly garden, the wetlands, and so much more.
Fun family place to learn about our feathered friends
Enjoyed our visit here and seeing all of the bird habitats. I expected a larger collection, but I was pleased with the habitats they had.
It's such a great place to get away for a bit. It's just short enough that you aren't spending all day there and the kids aren't whining. And you can get so close to the birds!!! So cool!
Definitely a place to go for anyone at any age. It's a very relaxing place to go and learn about different types of birds. I went with my one year old and he enjoyed seeing and pointing out the birds that would catch his attention. We also More
This place was amazing the amount of care and time they take for the birds is commendable. They also have a few endangered species so find them and get pictures
I hadn't been here since I was a kid and it lived all the way up to my expectations. Every room was immersive and overflowing with activity. Birds showing their habits and personalities, and the sloth even came down to eye level which was awesome. Everyone was socially distanced and wearing masks which was comforting and made for a very enjoyable visit. My girlfriend and I spent about 2 hours looking at everything at a pretty relaxed pace and left feeling like we really got our fill of each exhibit.
One of my favorite places to visit in Pittsburgh. Every visit is a unique experience with the variety of birds at the Aviary. The feedings are certainly worthwhile, especially the wetlands feeding where knowledgeable staff provide opportunities to hand-feed some of the animals. My 3 year old loved the Lorikeet feeding, especially when the Lorikeets perched on his arm to drink nectar. He also loved the penguin exhibit with the viewing tunnels and bubbles for children.
Amazing and beautiful varieties of birds. Reasonably priced admission and food as well!
Excellent time! Very well laid out, lots of interesting birds and we even got to see the sloth!
Excellent view of a variety of birds. I recommend going in fair to good weather. Snow storm made it open 2 hours late. Some outside birds. I got a $9 senior citizen discount. Add on specials if you want. $300 let's you be a trainer and access to everything, including interacting with a sloth.
Just a wonderful and accessable experience. The opportunity to be up close with so many amazing creatures is not something to be missed. Really gives you an appreciation for the animals and conservation of them.
Quite reasonably priced for an enjoyable day. Facility was clean and bright and all staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable. It was clear that conservation and sustainability are of primary concern to the program. Well done!
This is a great place to visit in Pittsburgh! I loved the open rooms where you could sit and watch the birds move about. My husband and I saw the whole aviary in an afternoon with plenty of time spent just sitting and watching. They have great staff and volunteers in every area that are eager to answer questions and share information about the birds and the facility. A great place for the whole family!
The aviary is a great place to go for a good time, especially if you love birds (they also have bats and a sloth). My favorite bird there was definitely the little owl (so cute) in the back behind the food court before you go out the doors to the condors. The main thing I didn't like about it was the price for kids for the general admission. The price for kids was just one dollar less than the price for adults. I think it would be cheaper if you go in a large group.
Amazing birds and informative exhibits along with separate interactive activities everyone can enjoy.
Nice, informative location with an impressive selection of birds and other interesting creatures. However, the admission is a little steep considering the size, but I do understand that the cost of operating such a wonderful place does cost a lot. Overall it s
educational, fun, and good for the children
I had an amazing time!! The Aviary was beautiful! It was so clean & neat & the staff were wonderful!!! Tickets aren t at all expensive, and neither is parking! I highly recommend taking a trip & visiting this gorgeous aviary!!! Absolutely loved it!!!
Everyone should experience the Aviary at least once. It is packed with a huge variety of species and settings. You can get up close and sometimes are able to interact with the birds. They do daily feedings and other pop up demonstrations often. The outdoor shows on the roof and auditorium are amazing and so much fun. I love everything about it and never get tired of it. One the best things to do is feed the Lorries!
Great experience. Heres just a few of the cuties I saw.
Amazing birds and people who genuinely love taking care of them. Jason (?) Who did thw baby flamingo interaction was great, and I loved watching the baby flamingos. They have so many different types of birds here - everyrhing from flamingos to a condor
We love the immersive exhibits. For nearly all the species on exhibit you're walking right in the area they live. Birds are walking right next to you. Branches are near enough that birds are within an arms reach of you. They even have a few sloths! We took our 3mo and 2yo in to feed the lorikeets. The lori feedings are only $3 extra and it is SUCH a cool experience. Loved every minute of it.
So pretty and so many birds!!! Lots of activities for kids
Expensive and many of the exhibits were down for renovations.
It's a small place, but the exhibits are amazing and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable
Great aviary! It's amazing how the birds are all just out in the open. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never been pooped on. Worth going at least once!
Beautiful place will visit again. Bird or my favorite
Always enjoyable. Love the penguin exhibit. Nice place to take children. Be careful --there are areas where the birds fly freely, in case you are not wanting to be in an open area like that.
Just awesome, had tons of fun, and spent more time there than anticipated. You can walk through twice and see different things.
Love the exhibits and learn for the people volunteering
This place has really grown to be the best ever Bird house. I use to go here twice a year. Taken the children, taken the Pathfinders scout group, taken the church members as an outing and today it is still one of Pittsburgh's must see places. I did remember there was the Ten Commandments out front but is now gone.??? But the new facility is the greatest. The have a food court. There is an outdoor eating area. If you are ever on the N.Side in Pittsburgh check out the Aviary .
I do love this place but it has high prices better off just buying a year membership
Loved feeding the birds and getting to see so many different types of birds.
I love to make it back to the aviary when I visit Pittsburgh. This visit, we got to see Flying Fox Bat feeding. This was a perfect highlight.
It was really pricy and the birds were cool but I would of liked to see more for the amount of money that I paid.
Excellent performances and hands on experience with the birds. Great for children of all ages.
Awesome place, great and knowledgeable staff. Had the Hawk encounter, was just awesome!!!
Really awesome experience. Especially great for kids. There is a lot to see, but it doesn't go on forever like most zoos. Beautiful birds with a few surprises like bats and sloths.
Birds spectacular, colorful, big or small, varied and unusual! The species represented are rare and their specificities are well explained, we are not bored! The entrance fee is reasonable, there is the possibility of eating on site. Shows are also offered, which will entertain the children!
I saw lots of birds and I made the kookaburra laugh :) I strongly recommend going up to its cage and going coo coo coo repeatedly. That should do the trick!
It is under construction right now, after purchasing the tickets the ticket sales lady simply announces that one of the main rooms is closed but no discount. Pretty disappointing that they are not more transparent about the situation.
One whole exhibit was closed and they didn't tell you when you paid.
Looking forward to seeing the rainforest renovations
Interesting birds, knowledgeable staff, clean, current exhibits. Enjoyable for the whole family
My family visited during our trip to Pittsburgh. It is a bird zoo with hundreds of rare and unusual species of birds. There are flamingoes bald eagles even a sloth. The birds are free and many fly to great you and Benito one of everyone's favorite does tricks. A great place to bring the little ones
This is a pretty cool place if you like birds. Unfortunately, at the time we went they we're remodelling the Rainforest exhibit. The eagles and penguins we're the best part for my family. This location is not very large and with a family of five, we we're about to get through everything in alittle over an hour. Definitely worth taking the family if your out and looking for something to do.
Staff is extremely knowledgeable of the interesting variety of critters on display here.
