Fantastic place to learn about space flight. Everyone should go
Good free fun for the family, lectures and viewing platforms, photo ops and displays. Stay away from the bushes, they are mosquito havens.
This would be better if we had kids. Interesting stuff, but kind of boring if there are no events happening.
Great learning and cool place to hide from the summer heat.
Pretty informative once you're safely inside; otherwise, the flies will get to you, at least in the summertime. The long entranceway is poorly kept, probably because the poor landscapers are tired of dealing with the flies.
Not much to see, much smaller than even Goddard up in Greenbelt, MD. Many of the exhibits were even out of order. Also the only NASA site I have been to that didn't offer a military discount at the gift store. If you are not coming for a launch, I wouldn't bother. It does have a few educational exhibits but it is split between the NAVSEA and NASA presence, so all in all it felt very lacking in regards to space and aeronautics.
We had such a good time here. It's very small compared to a lot of the places we visited on our vacation. But it is chock full of great information and interactive learning. Not to mention it is free. They do suggest a donation. But none is required. It is great for all ages. I'm 50 and found a ton of interesting exhibits. My 14 year old son and his friend found much to captivate them too. We're also saw many exhibits to attract much younger children.
This is a must see for all ages.. hands on. Great photo oops. Gift shop.. go on the roof top.. learning galore. History. A++
Fun place to take your kids while in Chincoteague. Educational and air-conditioned :)
Really fun place for the kids and family to visit. If you are vacationing to the eastern shore, this is certainly worth a stop. Many options for your child to learn from. They also host special programs from time to time. Keep an eye out for launches, you can visit here the morning of a launch to watch from their stadium seating.
Its definitely interesting even though theres not that much too see but its free admission
Maybe we were there on an off day? The Visitors Center wasn't much. It's very small. There were no guides walking around to explain things to us. No movies were running. The theater was dark. There were lots of large, empty spaces. You ride a dirty elevator up to the roof to look out over the marshes and see NASA and NOAA behind the barbed wire fences. A beautiful view from up there, but very odd. It was free & a good way to kill about 45 minutes.
If you can't make it down to Florida for a big launch this is next best thing. You are quite a ways off from the launch pad, but you can actually FEEL the power of the lift-off in your gut. I went for a night launch, but I'll try a daytime launch next chance I get and remember to take a real camera with zoom lens. The cell phones just don't cut it for these.
Fun place to learn about NASA Wallops history and current operations.
...great interpretation. Informative display and video. Knowledgeable staff...
Just wondering why the photos are upside down. Have not been to the site, but doubt that gravity is reversed there.
Lots of informational displays but no one was around for questions or expanded information. Also, they close by 4pm even in the height of summer.
Awesome place and saw the Blue Angels take off to practice for the air show on Saturday and Sunday.
Very interesting place. I wish we could have seen a launch while there.
Super cool place to see a launch from. Whole family enjoyed it.
Such an awesome place! Friendly staff! Cute little gift shop
Watched a night launch of an Antares re-supply rocket to the international space station. It was super brief, but the light and sound was something that cannot be described in words, it has to be experienced in person...
Amazing!!! Saw my first rocket launch. Can t wait to do it again
The visitor center is small but has interesting exhibits. I did not visit for a launch. I feel like a launch would make it a million times better. There are a ton of handouts and a small gift shop. Check it out to learn about all the important orbital and suborbital missions carried out by the facility.
If you have a few minutes to stop it's worth it. Learn about NASA and what they do and did
So interesting that a NASA museum and exhibit is close by...it has something for everyone of all ages. There are also certain days that you can see rockets lift off to the International Space Station.
So much fun and informative for all ages. The bugs though.
Very cool and interesting small museum exploring of the work done at Wallops. Turns out more rockets launch from Wallops than any other NASA launch site! It was great to learn about the wide range of experiments that are done from Wallops, from climate change to astrophysics. They have a few interactive exhibits that both kids and adults would like, and lots of detailed info. They also have several rockets outside of the building which were very cool.
Went to watch launch if supply rocket to the International Space. Station. NASA had things well organized on the ground, launch was great to watch! Now want to see more of them. Visitor Center is fairly basic, nothing real fancy. That said, it was well kept, staff engaging, and it IS a working flight center not a museum or fun park. If you are interested in space flight definitely worth a visit for a launch.
Risked a parking ticket to watch the launch of Antares / Cygnus CRS-12. It went up without a hitch!
We stumbled across this visitor center when traveling to Chincoteague Virginia. Had no idea it was here and we were glad we stopped in. Excellent facilities, top notch educational displays, a lot of information for children and adults. Picnic facilities also were outside.
Could spend all day watching the globe amphitheater. New exhibits are neat.
Great historical place to learn about plus it is a current navy training facility
Wonderful place to visit. Friendly knowledgeable staff!
Very, very nice!! Very educational.
Great place to learn about space. Spend about 2 -3 hours
Small facility but very important to the Space Program. Exhibits and film are great.
Had never heard of facility. Very pleasantly surprised. Recommend you check it out
Not a lot to do. Just a visitor center with some displays and a room with video playing about the facility in loop.
Watching a rocket launch was just unbelievable, the visitor center was next to it so you could learn about previous missions. The bathroom is the first thing in the visitor center just in case of long trips.
Very nice and clean. Everyone was kind, helpful, and friendly. Interesting place
If even have mild interest in NASA, you will find it very enlightening.
I've always been a NASA nut. So I am, admittedly a little biased. But I found this place very interesting. My wife, who does not share my fascination with NASA, reports to me, that she found it interesting. I think that is because it is not all about space stuff.
For example, before you enter the visitor center building, the is a "Bio-Indicator Garden", where they demonstrate how ozone, at the surface of the Earth, has an adverse effect on certain plants, causing them to deform, and how we can use them to warn us of excess ozone, which is harmful to humans, as well. Wallops Flight Center uses sounding missiles, to measure these gases, directly.
You really need to visit this place. Best of all, it's FREE! Well, it's supported by your taxes, a very good use, IMHO, so you may as well get the most out of it. Do go, though. Take your kids. A great teaching moment will result.
The museum was smaller than I thought it would be. It was still very well done and lots of cool NASA items on display.
Amazing place to visit. Must do a tour while your there!
Very informational! When you go inside there's a lot of scale models of various rockets. They have a TV that tells, what seems, every possible aspect of t of the current weather. They, also, have a second floor where you can stand outside and look down below. One time we went and they had a class on a field trip and we got to watch them shoot off mini rockets. It was neat to watch.
Excellent place for kids interested in the different ways we use satellites and rocketry.
Lots of hands on things to do and learn about. There are live launches throughout the year. Check schedule.
This is a great place to take your kids or yourself to learn a lot about the history of space flight, aerodynamics, and much more. They have fun interactive TV panels for people to mess around with and learn with. If you just want a good picture standing next to a rocket, you should also come here. Along with all that, they of course have a gift shop for you to buy something to remember the experience.
Not many hands on things to do to learn. I could not tell what happened there vs other facilities.
Museum rather small but interesting. Possibility to see take off some rockets.
Very interesting, lot's to see. Great place to spend an afternoon with school aged kids. Bring a camera.
Wonderful place very educational It was a great tour
I would like to see guided tour of the launch pads. I think people would be willing to pay a fee.
The information is always nice and i really like the visitor center. The gift shop is a must go to!!
Great place to take your kids. Even though I did not have any children with me, it was a really cool experience
It's free and nice for something different, but a little dated, the talk about stuff they are going to do in future but have already done
GREAT visitor center-nice interactive thi gs for adults and kids
Great place to stop if you are visiting Chincoteague island being it's only 3 minutes from it. The observation deck was cool because you could see planes taking off. Really cool gift shop and info on weather balloons and rockets.
Attended the rocket launch with my daughter and 4 year old grandson. It was a great experience for all of us. Very organized and friendly.
Nice visitor center. It contains quite a bit of exhibits. It was quite crowded the last time I was there, and that could have been because it was the day of the last shuttle launch.
Great place to visit. Free visitors center. Can enjoy easily in 2- 3 hours.
What an experience! Headed out at midnight ... 1 1/2 hour drive with no traffic to the visitor center at Wallops Island. Totally organized with parking assistants, the visitor center had opened at midnight, as well as food/drink vendor, well lit grounds. Launch time was 4:01. Temps were chilly, but no wind and we had chairs, blankets, and refreshments with us. The sky was clear with a wide expanse to view the stars and the launch pad in the distance. We witnessed take off and were surprised there was no noise initially. Ot was well worth the trip - would do it again!
Super crowded on the day of a launch, so didn't do any of the interactive stuff, but there was plenty of it. Good explanations of the role of NASA in exploring the world as well as space. Wallops and its Visitor Center seem small but mighty--one of the busiest launch spots in the US, and the center packs a lot into a small space. The Visitors Center is certainly worth a stop on your way to or from Chincoteague.
