I highly recommend McLeod Law. Jackie Halpern and Cynthia Heinbuch represented me in a car accident case and they were definitely a Dream Team . I found them to be honest, knowledgeable, resourceful and diligent. They gave timely and detailed responses to all my enquiries and guided me every step of the way. On a personal level, I appreciated their compassion and understanding in the midst of challenging medical circumstances. I was very fortunate to have such a kind and skilled team working on my behalf.

I decided to use McLeod Law to add my name to the title of my home, from my understanding this is a fairly common request for real estate lawyers. I decided to use McLeod Law because we use them often at work, while we use many other law firms McLeod Law has always processed the majority of our real estate requests.

During the process of adding my name to title on my Alberta home, I received inaccurate information that I requested regarding hardcopy signatures to McLeod Law rather than scans/faxes. The inaccurate information cost me astronomical Fex Ex fees that could have been avoided given the proper information requested. None the less I thought it is, what it is and paid the Fed-Ex fees.

I received my title and invoice on dated for January 7th, 2020. With COVID-19 many of us have been preoccupied with our current employment status, being laid off and figuring out how to get by. I received an email a couple days ago (end of April 2020) remind me of my $663 invoice, no problem, I called the following business day and when I had trouble getting in touch with someone I sent a follow up email asking for someone to call me to clear up my invoice.

Rather than a call, I received a follow up email and nasty emails two days later from Laurie Kiedrowski (a Partner of McLeod Law,) when Laurie and I connect on the phone she was extremely rude advising me McLeod Law had been phoning for months , when the first follow up correspondence I received was a couple days ago via email, as well Laurie had the audacity to mention the title transfer was done in good faith and without a retainer , at no point did I request any special treatment, as well I was never asked to pay a retainer. This is unacceptable to speak to clients in this manner. $663 is not going to make or break a law firm. With the current events maybe McLeod Law should ensure clients are able to pay invoices that were received prior to the current pandemic and perhaps ask if payment arrangements need to be made. Although I have no concerns to pay my invoice, many individuals are struggling at this time.

Lastly, McLeod Law may want to recognize it will be a post COVID-19 world and treating clients with respect will go a long way. Especially when Calgary has plenty of law firms to choose from, many of these law firms practice core values and respect.

Shame on you Laurie! Any corporate requests as well as personal legal matters will be handled by a professional law firm moving forward. I have noticed McLeod Law typically responds to bad reviews by noting they do not recognize the name from the bad review... save it, no one is buying it, put your efforts into better customer service.

Austin was knowledgeable, professional and turned over every stone to ensure the best outcome on our behalf. We are grateful for his guidance and wisdom, which helped us achieve successful results in the shortest time frame possible.

First of all my name is on file with Alberta ID giving personally to Asher MacDonald on December 06,2018. Me & my family attended meeting with Asher MacDonald and I handed over my personal cheque (ARSHAD MAHMOOD) of $10 k as retainer for Family and Civil matter for myself and my daughter who is dependent on me.
I don't want to open the whole box on Google review but your response compel me to do so. Asher MacDonald first promised to help in both cases but later he refused to act on Civil matter for no contact orders, however he demanded to replace cheque with $5,000 retainer but after discussion with me he agreed on $3,000 retainer deposit. I gave him my personal (ARSHAD MAHMOOD) Cheque #675 of TD Canada trust dated December 18,2018 which was cashed on the same day Dec 18,2018 into Macleod Law LLP trust account. If you need the copy of cheque I can post on Google Review. Later in one month received overcharged invoice of $5,600 with two different hourly rates and he withdraw as a counsel without helping us. If you still think that my name is not in your system then accountability Audit must be conducted by Law Society of Alberta.

I hope this is enough evidence to prove my name on the file as I'm acting on my daughter file # 134853 and she gave officially consent to Asher MacDonald. If you really want she can post another review with her own name and then all public will be aware about these review.

Now the case is with Review and Assessment Commission on this file for the accountability. Please don't try to prove wrong to us as we are affected by this Lawyer and MacLeod Firm and publicly giving message don't trust on Asher MacDonald Lawyer with MacLeod Law firm.

We had really bad experience with this Law firm dealing with Lawyer Asher Macdonald in Family matter and in less than one month of period time overcharged us and sent bill over $5.5 K charging two different hourly rates and left as a Counsel very unprofessional way. No ethic and very rude with the client. We don't recommend this Lawyer because they are only working for money not taking care of clients. Please think before retaining and see the Google reviews first. Don't waste your money.

Chad Johnson of McLeod Law represented my ex-wife for our separation agreement a few years ago and, recently, several mediations leading up to an arbitration. After these experiences I strongly feel the need to warn others about Chad s style but not for the reasons one may first think. Yes, Chad was opposing counsel but that does not necessarily mean I dislike Chad as I can have great respect for strong, knowledgeable opposition. However I am honestly concerned at his poor advice (or lack thereof) that he provided to my ex-wife during our mediations this year that resulted in a significant waste of time, money and effort on her behalf. We all know separations are very personal and people can act irrational, making poor and often misguided decisions based on resentment, anger and ego. This is when we rely on our professional help to put us on the right track. In Chad s case, he simply followed an ill-advised narrative from my ex-wife that had little to no chance of succeeding. For example almost every proposal (and suggested wording of agreements) received from Chad were cut-and-paste exact wording from my ex-wife with little or no attempt to temper tone, eliminate irrelevant content or check for spelling errors. Often this narrative took significant tangents away from main topics which angered the mediator and gave my position more credibility unnecessarily. All good for me right? Not really. As my ex-wife relies on me for spousal support, she is squandering her finances and Chad is happily accepting. One lawyer said to me if she [my ex] was my client, I would have straightened her out quickly and, unfortunately, Chad has not done this and has therefore drawn out the drama. Most importantly our mediations centered on time-sensitive issues for our young children. Chad clearly used tactics, albeit legal, to purposely slow the mediation process as this was to his client s advantage. Perhaps this was strong negotiating, but as the months dragged on, this negatively affected our children which I find shameful (fortunately the mediator saw similarly and smartly made the correct decision). Finally, I will note that Chad has a bad habit of not following a simple recommendation from the Law Society of Alberta; specifically the Code of Conduct, Rule 7.2-8. Chad routinely forwards email messages involving his client and third parties to opposing counsel that can invite unintended consequences such as those pointed out in the commentary under Rule 7.2-8 in the Code. After my lawyer repeatedly told Chad about his error, he blatantly continued doing it which can only be interpreted as a paltry attempt to annoy my counsel. Yet it really just shows a lack of respect of the Law Society and professionalism in general. In fairness, Chad is a calm and well-spoken man with experience but is capable of much better. He would be well-advised to be a leader and help his client(s) towards realistic and productive goals. Chad is a senior lawyer and would charge accordingly. Caveat emptor.

He was so nice since the first day I met him, always quick to respond to my emails, phone calls and gave me updates whenever I have concerns. He was available all the time.. I was referred to this firm in the spring of 2016, and suppose to have a court date in June 2017 to help finalize items from debates; but lawyer went against my wishes with apposing lawyer, and when I sent email stating how unhappy I was with the service was dropped. So all monies I paid, right back to square one; NOT FAIR. feeling WRONGED BIG TIME!!
Then was told I was angry with the wrong FIRM... I am thinking NOT !!!

I have worked with several lawyers here over the years. Aaron Bickman, Rick Breen, Neil Hutton, Roy Klassen, Linda Lynch-Staunton, Shelly Waite, and list goes on (sorry if I forgot anyone). They take care of the Corporate and Estate Law for my company as well as our numerous accounting / audit clients. They are always on our list of referred lawyers. The prices are fair, the work is timely and quality of the work is always reliable. It is nice to have a full service law firm available outside of the downtown.

Almost always dealt with assistant rather then having a connection to open up and explain what had happened to me. Took 6yrs to get me $24,000 all in for almost losing/scared my life (lawyer got $14,000). Was transferred from lawyer to lawyer within firm which was unsettling. My lawyer Kimberley Bufton whom must've been an amateur said the establishment that I was suing pretty much bullied me/her and that we could not sue as much because their insurance was out of the country. I should have walked away when I sensed the 2nd lawyer I got set up with within the first year and I had seen 5 in the 6yrs so try explaining yourself and opening up again to a new lawyer. To this day I regret the headache, the lingering responses to my requests, doing follow ups and standing their ground and fought for my right to live and proper compensation rather then deter me from taking it to trial and pretty much bullying me into taking the deal and putting me in a great depression. I suggest you do some research and look around before making a decision to possibly waste years of your life...

Jackie Halpern is an incredible lawyer. She provides extraordinary, professional legal advice. She helped me through two car accidents that have changed my life drastically. Poor service. They collected extra money at the time of signing documents for house closing and now not adjusting the difference. Even though it's a small amount but they are not answering email or calls. Really poor customer service.
