Customer service was very good, they do what they can with what they have!
After checking in and given a room on the 1st floor it seemed pleasant at first until I sat on the bed and nearly fell through, when I lifted the bed on the metal frame slatt bed I noticed it was missing 2 slats which caused a massive gap.
After ringing reception and asking for a different room they advised that they would come and inspect what I had found with the bed!

Room seemed OK, clean tidy, small, much improved bed compared to the 1st room!
Before heading out for dinner I advised that the air con unit sounded like it was going to explode and was reading a fault code on the display, I was told that it would be reset and be okay by the time I retire to bed!
This was not the case, no heating or air con all night, room was so cold!

I took my mum and daughter for afternoon tea in September. We had a lovely, lovely waiter, thankfully. It was his first day, but he was a star and the only reason I gave the 2nd star rating and didn't complain there and then. Worst food I've had in a while for ANY price. Gluten free bread was as dry as sandpaper; the food technology has moved on for alternative diets... clearly not at the Midland, its 15 years out of step and the bread tasted as if it had been in the freezer for that amount of time as did the beef between it. Another senior member of staff was clearly irritated that I had the temerity to ask her about cream ! If you're going for the decor and historic ambience of the 'acclaimed' Midland, then the tea room is mediocre at very best. An expensive disappointment.

Just like to go for a drink and chill out in the octogan lounge. Pianist on sat and sun evening. Also Mr coopers restaurant can't be faulted. The octogan bar has been renovated and it looks cheap and nasty. Not a good look

I have attended a number of functions at this hotel in the Alexandra Suite. On each occasion I've been pleasantly surprised to see the transformation of the room to suit the theme of each event, from a dramatic black and white themed decor with candle-lit centre pieces to a warmer set up with coloured lights.
This suite has a separate entrance which is always handy especially if the hotel is busy with other guests at the same time.

I've also had a chance to spend some time in the Stanley Suite which is also a really nice space for an event.

Nice hotel in the centre of Manchester. Staff was very friendly and made me feel welcome.

Generally I don't like Classic-style hotels but the Midland embraces the old and sells it with a modern twist. I stayed overnight during the weekend. The room was clean. The view on the square was nice but did give quite a lot of noice from outside throughout the night. (Perhaps because of the weekend) I was very happy to have brought my earplugs with me. If you like a quite room, ask for a room that is not located on the side of the square.

Breakfast was delicious, plenty of choice and again, friendly staff. The only thing missing is fresh orange juice. That would have made it perfect for me :-)

I Was given a card key for my room located on the 2nd floor went to the room and card did not not work, went downstairs to the reception and the card was scanned and then went back upstairs to try it and it did not work again had to go downstairs for the second time and now the lady came with me to the room she tried it and said oh it s not working and we will have to take you to another room on the same floor. It was quite a walk and found this quite poor service.
The room was very standard and very old carpets very dirty and shoddy floor boards. Never again will I ever stay here again. The cent in the air in the lobby smells beautiful and Mr coppers and the French is amazing but that s it.
I should of been upgraded to a bigger room or something for all messing about I did not need this stress as I ve have just flown in from Saudi on a 7hr flight.

Visited Manchester for first time due official work and was not sure how the hotel will turn out.
The Midland is wonderful hotel with very good history. It is very close to Piccadilly. There is a free shuttle bus service in Manchester upto 10pm on working days and 6pm on weekends, which was very good. The hotel is located closely to lots of restaurants and near by shopping complexes. Unfortunately due to conference timings, I was not able to use restaurant but menu was looking good. I will definitely stay here again and sure will have opportunity to try restaurant then.

Nice, historic hotel. We stayed in a superior room which was a good size and comfortable but with no view. There was some noise from outside; trams and football fans but not surprising being right in the city centre. A short queue for breakfast and our server was not the most attentive, but a very good choice of high quality food and very nice coffee
The spa offers a good range of treatments and the relaxation room is fantastic but the pool and steam rooms are small

We stayed here a few days ago and we found the hotel very relaxing compared to all others in Manchester. The rooms are really cozy and I found myself glued to the bed the following morning because it was just so comfortable! I loved the overall ambiance of the hotel too.

An aging greatness that is a bit shabby in a lot oif places. Surely none can deny that it was a great hoitel, but it is no longer a first rate one. We found spots in our tea cups; happy but not terribly helpful staff, and just a general slackening of effort. This might have been acceptable if all the fees weren't set at a very first rate schedule.

Beautiful hotel, food was lovely! The bedroom was lovely, bed was 6ft wide and very comfortable. I edited my review upon reading others and have added photos of my room. I honestly couldn't say a bad word about the room, food or staff! We will definitely be back!

Perfectly located in the heart of Manchester, great access to bars and restaurants.

The large and open lobby area is classy but not stuffy, the rooms themselves are well equipped with all the normal extras you'd expect to find. It's going for the more "old opulance" style of older classy hotels and they've done it well.

The food was great, the function room very spacious and all the staff were extremely helpful. All in all a great stay!

I had room 246. It was huge! The service was excellent, food was good with plenty of variety. Friendly staff, spa is great, lots of guests usig the spa. For Manchester I was impressed! Definitely would go back. Only downer, if you have a car, there is no discount for hotel guests in any car park.

I was treated to an afternoon tea at the Midland. It was a beautiful sunny day & therefore the views were breathtaking!
The conservatory style room we dined in was a perfect room to dine in & admire the coastal views.
Unfortunately the food wasn t as impressive!

Even the Cakes & scones very average & unexciting.
I was lucky enough to experience the Low Wood spa the same weekend & their complementary cakes were delicious!

Entrance hall and staff were all very attentive and friend and helpful. Location is excellent too. But for the price? It her isn't worth it. Stayed in a Superior Room which, although it was huge, was dusty on the walls and ceiling and had the smallest double bed I've ever seen. It was, at best, an enlarged single. Horrendous for two people. Don't understand the bed options in such a huge room. Wasn't even comfortable. I'd recommend a cheaper alternative anyday

I was at a special invitation to an award ceremony. It was an afternoon tea. It was ok because it was a large group of people with speaker and presentation of awards, so probably not a true reflection of afternoon tea at The Midland

Great value for money. Lovely quiet room with a huge spacious bed and ample room. Large bathroom. Fridge in room with complimentary water and great facilities.
Breakfast was included in the price of the room and was outstanding couldn't fault the service or quality of food. Excellent range and even catered for vegetarians.
